Multi faceted story with romance, mystery, murder, and so much more. This book kept me up past my bedtime because I just couldn't put it down.
We all miss all the old series but this one shows such promise. I have never been disappointed by a book I got from Robin Deeter. Can't wait for book two.

I enjoyed the story , but it seemed to bounce off track several times. Hated. the ending. One minute they're taking about kids and the next it seemed like part of the epilogue was missing. You were reading about a miserable winter holidays coming and then nothing. I was expecting her to tell Cy she was expecting at Christmas. I k ow the book continues with his sister but I really was disappointed in the ending. Lots of jumping around from Sly to the woodworking shop with nothing defined. The writer is responsible for the story, but the editing is just as responsible for checking the flow.

Robin Deeter hits a homerun with this first Chance book. The combination of Native American and white romance is fulfilling. When Cy who's part Indian is in need of a wife, he needs a rarity. He wants a woman to run his ranch. Leigh fits the need and travels to him. Their immediate attraction is palpable and their story becomes complicated by a murder. But love conquers all.
The Wren (Wings of the West Book 1) :: Loving the Marquess (Landing a Lord Book 1) :: The Long Mars (Long Earth) :: Flood (A Novel of the Flood) :: Gabriella (Hiatt Regency Classics Book 1)

I downloaded for free because the cover and title caught my interest. I couldn't get through the first chapter. I thought that I was reading a contemporary crime procedural story line in how the characters were being set-up and the conversation sounding current instead of late 19th century. I knew that if I continued reading, I would just get more and more disappointed. It probably would be good, if it was changed to a contemporary setting, as it showed promise. It's easy to know when an author does not capture authenticity and era. Just watch old black and white movies from the 1930s and 1940s, and you'll experience the difference is culture and conversations. Now imagine how it would have been 50, 100 or 500 years before that. It would have been different than today.

In her Debut writing as herself Robin Deeter has outdone herself with this one!

This book is about Leah and Cyrus both struggling to find their place in the world and love, and yet it is so much more.
There is a murder and a thief to catch, tragedy, triumph, heartache, hope, and so much more to be found in this book.

If you want to read a book that draws you in and makes the characters come alive, makes you feel right along with them, then this is the book for you. It may be shorter in page numbers than some, however you won't feel that by the time you finish. I couldn't stop reading once I started.

The mystery is good, the connection to the Brides of Beckham was enjoyable, the writing is fantastic, but....I didn't feel like I was reading a historical book. It was like reading about modern people who have no cars or electricity. Even language choices seemed modern as did the thinking of the characters.

If you are looking for authenticity, a true historical western, this isn't it, not by a country mile. The setting, the characters, the tools at their disposal were a mishmash of historical periods. The so-called crime solving was perfunctory at best, as was character development, and the epilogue was a poor excuse for tying up loose strings in order to move forward with another story.

Wow! What a beautiful story! Characters to love as you get to know them! I am so excited to start reading the next book! I live the way that prejudices are dealt with in so many different ways! Awesome storyline! Thank you so much for a wonderful read! Definitely getting the entire set!!

Really enjoyed the writing by Robin. Enjoyed all of the characters and looking forward to learning more about Daphne, Daniel, Sly, Brock, Ellie, and the rest of the Chance City residents. Can see this series continuing for a long time. Will be able to know what has happened in the lives of Leigh and Cy. Little romance, little mystery, and a plot! Enjoyed it!!!

I really enjoyed this book and all the characters that are introduced. I look forward to more books in the series and hope that future books in the series continue with mysteries and crimes for the law enforcement team to solve as well as tell us tell personal stories. I loved Cy and Leigh and their extended family. I hope other books come out soon and often.

New town with new characters that should bring more interesting stories to enjoy. A little different having the wife be the main rancher while her husband goes to work at sheriffs officer. Without using horses for transportation and no running water, this story almost has a modern feel..

This was a very slow starting book. The characters were well written and the interactions of the family/townspeople were entertaining, but there was so little romance in this story! Cy and Leigh don't even meet until 25% of the book has passed - that's way too late in a short story! In addition, they hardly ever spend any time together. Cy is always off in town solving one crime or another and Leigh is on the farm. She spends more time with Cy's cousin Johnny than with Cy. I just never believed that they could have built up feelings of love and caring. The author spent a lot of time on the "mysteries", giving endless details on who Cy was interviewing, etc. It's too bad she didn't spend as much time on the relationship between CY and Leigh. Much better stories of this genre out there.

This book was well-written, with love balanced with excitement as the lawman caught the bad guys.

There was plenty of suspense to hold the readers' attention. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

2 things to keep in mind before you purchase. The title is a rip off from Kristen Osbourne series The bride's of Beckham and even the cover it meant to mislead. It is very similar to the covers of the Osborne series. And this is not a old west mail order bride book. Not sure when the timeline was but they had pocket sized cameras and yet talked about Cherokee raids in the main characters lifetime. It was weird.

The storyline itself is excellent and the topic a favorite. However, it was slower in the beginning and it took a bit to get started. I too, had a thought here and there about the time period but the story was entertaining so it didn't matter to me. The depth of investigation and abilities of Pinkerton seemed more modern than historical but then, it might also depend on the ability of the investigator him or herself. I loved that Cyrus found the love of his life and that Leigh found the man she could once again build a life with. Often the widows lives in our history suffered such loss that few could find a new life. I believe it is my first experience with a book depicting Comanche mixed blood people trying to fit into communities outside some sort of reservation life. It was interesting and well written. I haven't read this author and am excited to see how Book Two is. Thanks.

Author Robin Deeter writes strong heroines, perhaps a bit too obviously strong for the times but fully enjoyable nonetheless. The progressive momentum of the end of the 19th century means a lot of what seems anachronistic quite likely isn't. Scientific investigations predate CSI, after all, and forensic evidence has long drawn a picture and told a story.

Narrator Jay Smith nicely modulates a variety of voices and the action progresses swiftly as a failing rancher takes his friend's joke as a suggestion and requests a ranch manager from a mail order bride company. Ms Deeter has a nice light touch and keeps the humor to the forefront except when tragedy occurs. There are a number of secondary characters who are nicely developed as well; since this is listed as Book 1 in the series, I anticipate more fun!
