Queen Song (Red Queen Novella)

5 Stars easily!!! This book fascinated me. I loved Queen Coriane. I fell in love with her seamlessly. Coriane was a whisper but she didn’t use her powers for evil. Coriane was content to tinker with odds and ends and live her life. She wasn’t prepared for King Tiberas to come along and upturn her world. This is a beautiful, yet heartbreaking novella. It adds SO MUCH to the series.

"There is nothing so terrible as a story untold." Not just writing motivation, but a quote that explains the reason for this story. The lack of world building could make comprehending this difficult for anyone who hasn't read Red Queen. It's a good story, an interesting one. Nice romance. In fact, if the rest of the series weren't aimed at the futuristic-urban-fantasy genre, this could probably be a much longer book, a romance that's a stone's throw from Cinderella.

I really liked Red Queen, so I wanted to continue with the series. RQ briefly mentions Cal's mother, Corianne, and that she tragically committed suicide. I was certain Elara in this book was the queen in RQ so I went back and checked, and so many thing make more sense after reading this novella. Elara is a c u next tuesday and then some (some women really are gold digging w.....), and I'm curious as to how she actually does become queen, since Corianne and Tiberias married without the Queenstrial event.

It's a very sad novella and I need to move on to the next book in the series. I see much of Mare and Cal in Corianne and I REALLY hope Elara gets what she deserves.

It was nice to see the past of the first Queen of Tiberius The Sixth of The Red Queen. It gave us insight of who Cal's mom is and how she went through the rise and fall of her time as Queen. I, however, didn't like the writing that much. I feel like it should be a full book rather then a novella because the story was too quick in my opinion, and I just wanted to learn more of Coriane. It was great to see Julian cause he was one of my favorite characters in the Red Queen. Overall though I did enjoy this novella and I cannot wait for Glass Sword.

This pre-quell novella is best read after you have read The Red Queen. I read it right after reading Red Queen. I liked how it explained the back story of Cal's mother. However, it was way to short and needed more. I have more questions than ever regarding Queen Coriane's death. For example

1.If she hired a guard to block out anyone from getting in her head to harm her, why was she having bad dreams, still?
The book says it was herself, however, we know that not to be true. At least judging by the ending of this novella.
I just needed more from this, even it was only a novella. I needed more than just a depressed little girl that became queen. What about Sara, in the book Red Queen, Sara gets her tongue cut out because she knows all about Queen Coriane's death. How? What? Why?
The queens character reminds me of Mare Barrow in Red Queen, she thinks she is nothing. She rather just waste away and can't imagine herself with power, with love, longs for a better world. They are cut from the same cloth and hopefully that plays in later in the other books.

I felt as though the book just didn't tell enough. How did Elara get together with the King after Coriane's death? Did she force her way inside his mind then and control him? Was she controlling him most of the marriage before his death?
Also why can't healers heal aliments or big diseases like cancer? Need more, please give me more.
I am hoping that Steel Scars and The Glass Sword will answer all my questions.
This book is worth the read after reading Red Queen. However a little lacking for the price I paid. Just wasn't enough!!!! The characters needed more depth, especially the new character Robert and the dreaded Elara. I felt this book could have even been a book instead of a novella with the awesome story line. Wishing the author would have taken it there.

This was a nice little added back story. It went a little to quickly for me but I always feel that way with good novella’s. I still really enjoyed it. I only wish that Corianne’s diary wasn’t destroyed and Cal could one day find it.

Since this one is a short story, there isn’t much time for all the religion that was in <b>Red Queen</b> and since this is a story about Elara being in Coriane’s head I suppose it’s only fitting that most of it takes place in her head too. <><

I probably should have red "Red Queen" first before reading the prequel novella "Queen Song" but all the same it was a good read and not super confusing. The Novella is only 55 pages and outlines characters for the "Red Queen." I would recommend reading it in between Red Queen and the sequel that just came out. Overall, easy to read and interesting.

I heard this was a prequel novella, and since I haven't read the other books yet, I thought it might be nice to start from the 'beginning'. I don't know much about the world where the story is set, but that didn't seem to detract from the story. It was an easy read, and I found the story and characters interesting. I think I may have missed a big reveal concerning subplots from the main novels, but at this point I don't know, which for me as new to the story made the ending fall a bit flat. I wasn't turned off by this, I think I just may need to know more about the sideline characters to enjoy the insight this novella shares. I enjoyed the writing, and plan to read the novels now.

Loved this short story. Loved getting to know Cal's mother and what happened to her. It's clear from this story, that the Silver's are some messed up people, who will destroy anyone (if their own) to get what they want. It's clear from this story that future installments of the Red Queen series, will be brutal and messy.

Quinn song by Victoria Aveyard to me this novella was really confusing at the beginning then it really picked up then bam it ended. I would have loved to read more about what Elara was doing and why! Now I'm wondering what happen to Elara and the King! Did he take a new wife??? What happen

You find out the mystery surrounding the first queen in this short novella, and it's not too bad. I didn't feel as if the author was forced by the publishers to crank something out real quick. You don't have to read this, but it will add a little background to book one.

As with all of this author's writing the story was easy and relatable. The characters, individual as they were were developed and rounded, each one you wished for a back story book! The imagery and poetics were the jewels in this princess to queen crown, by far! Highly recommend the prequel and the books that follow!!
