This is a good read, fun, interesting, and it grabs you from page one to the end. With the socks on the cover I first thought this would be just for teens or younger, but, I took a chance. I am oh so glad I did. It does need to be edited some because of spelling and grammar, but for me, I still love the story. The characters are real. The storyline, as paranormal, is believable. I recommend this to all ages.

This is a really enjoyable romp of a story.... pls M Z Andrews proof or edit for the grammar errors that are rampant in
the book. The story and characters are great however.
Mercy is a truant witch sent 'away' to hopefully reform only to find herself in trouble again but this time she has a lot
of company to be in trouble with!

This really was a fun read. I didn't give five stars because it needs a better editor. One who knows when to use I or me. There were a few more errors, but that was the most glaring...and irritating. I do freelance editing, so maybe I just notice more.

Witch collage girls need i say more... Ok well here the deal. The writing is good the pacing is good. But it felt rushed and with the book making want to read it all in one sitting thats both a good thing and a bad one. World build is their but it needed more character building for the other girls, thats the only reason its not a 5 star it needed 10 more pages that talks more of the collage and the girls. But that juat my thoughts take them as you may.

This series appears to be written by a very young person and/or someone using English as a second language. The use of "ugh" at the beginning of way too many sentences was aggravating. There are adjectives throughout the series which seemingly do not exist - at least according to the thesaurus on my Kindle. The series is midly entertaining and the last book in the series seems to have a message about friendship but that did not overcome the other deficiencies.

Nice little mystery with cute characters, good plot, dialog. Fun group of young paranormals/witches learning how to control their "gifts”. All was well until the main teacher said to call her on her extension "666". Since this is the first book in the series I'm hesitant to read the rest... will they become darker? Or remain mid-range?

I enjoyed the premise of this book, which is why I read it to the end and gave it 3 stars instead of 2. That being said, nearly ever page had run-on sentences broken by commas instead of proper punctuation and sometimes the dialogue was unrealistic. There were also lots of awkward sentences and clunky words along with a few typos and grammatical errors that a good editor would have caught. Finally, the pacing could use some work. Though the story has real promise, the writing is a bit naive. It reads more like a draft than a finished book.

For starters, this is not my usual genre to read in, so I was a little nervous. I picked it up on a recommendation from a friend. And... I am glad I did.

The author's style is light and fun. The characters are well developed and seem to spring to life as you read them.

The cinematic style lends itself to a cross between a Harry Potter film and a tv show on the CW.

I am anxious to see what else she has to offer!

This is very much a YA novel, and many of the flaws other reviewers have noted are simply features of the target audience (15 - 17?). Of course the adults are one or more of evil, stupid, or ineffectual. Of course the story contains no information of any of the classes the characters are taking at this witch college--in my experience (teaching at college), about one in five freshman students is remotely interested in their classes. Of course the young women are more interested in the young men than in solving a gruesome murder. And of course the police are not especially inclined to believe them (even though they are witches, they are still self-absorbed, easily distracted and very prone to believing that they know best: they are teenagers).
As another reviewer noted, the story is derivative (the Harry Potter series having launched a host of witch and wizard boarding school stories). On the other hand, cozy mysteries are all derivative: if the reader is a fan of a "type" of cozy mystery, the derivative elements are not bothersome; if the reader is not a fan of that "type," the derivative elements are irritating.
All that said, this story is an excellent read for girls and young women, ages 15 to maybe 25. For the rest of us, it's a fast and easy read with enough reasonably new elements to carry the plot and characterization. The book does have some grammar issues, but fewer than is typical for this sort of writing. I do not recommend this book for slow readers--it's fine for an hour or two, but it does not merit several days of attention.

I loved this book! Once I started I couldn't put it down. I read 84% of the story the first night, ahem I should say morning...I finally put it down at 5:00 AM! Mercy is an engaging person/witch and encompasses all the snarkiness of every misunderstood teen. Meeting and being accepted by her overwhelmingly sweet roommate is just the beginning of her learning that some people will accept and love the real you...throw in some magic, a murder and some teen hijinx and you have a hit!

I was looking for free books on my kindle, and somehow "The Witch Squad" and another book appeared in my library, but I hadn't yet selected any books. I know that sounds too cute for words, since this is a paranormal, and I am sure I was just unaware that I clicked on them, but I couldn't resist leading my review with this little anecdote. However it came to be in my library, I am glad it did. I really liked the story and the characters. They are normal people who happen to be witches. Not social rejects or super popular or perfect. The mystery was interesting and you learn more about the school and town as the girls investigate. The ending was not obvious and there are a few loose ends that didn't get resolved, but that didn't detract from the story. I assume any questions will be answered as part of the next book. I am looking forward to intentionally ordering it.

This book is apparently aimed at the teen/YA audience but I enjoyed it enough to buy the second book in the series. The book is well written (but could be improved by a good editor), the characters are fun, and the mystery isn't bad at all. Mercy Habernackle is a witch with a chip on her shoulder. Having caused problems in her Illinois town, she has been court ordered to go to school. Her mother, also a witch, has enrolled her in a college for witches in Pennsylvania. Nineteen-year old Mercy is determined to remain aloof from the other students at the school, but finds herself befriending some of them. When a young girl from the nearby town is murdered, Mercy and her new friends are drawn into the investigation.

This is a series (NOT a serial) of stand alone books. There is a little teaser at the end of each book, but each book is finished and can be read on it's own.

A very refreshing witch book. Not your typical everyday witch style book.

Mercy who is a troubled teenager is forced to go to a all girls finishing school for witches. Little does she know that it's not really an all girl school. The Paranormal Institute has two schools on one campus. One side is for the female witches and the other side is for the male wizards.

Mercy is use to be a loner due to being a witch and people not understanding her. Things quickly change as a murder happens in the town nearby and a group of girls come together to solve the mystery behind Mrs. Stone's the head of the Witch's back. The group of girls gets nick named the Witch Squad.

Join in on their crazy adventure into figuring out their powers, meeting the wizard boys, and solving a murder. This book was very fast paced and a nice light hearted fun read. I would recommend this to anyone who needs a refreshing book with youthful witches in it who don't fully understand their power.

Got this book from author for an honest review. First year paranormal college girls starting their training to develope their "gifts". A murder and an abduction and these young women put their heads and skills together to help the local police in finding the murderer and to get their friend, who was in deep danger, back to their Witches squad. Good story and mystery that wasn't easy to solve alone a real group effort was needed. It is a stand alone book with a brief introduction to adventures still to come but you could stop with book one and be happy with the story or buy the rest of the series for more exciting paranormal adventures. Go ahead and treat yourself to the fun and adventures.

I really liked this book. Well developed characters, all with personality quirks. A 'Girls school' for witches (read misfits). They get into trouble, and cause trouble, All about how 5 very different girls can somehow become a unit and what it takes for them to save the day.

This is a good book with witches and a mystery. The blending of the different personalities was filled with both comical and heartwarming moments. The mystery was well-written and had some twists and surprises. There were a few minor errors that were easily overlooked. I look forward to reading the next book, which I'm about to start. I'm hoping at some point, Jax ends up with her own personal surprise. I loved Sneaks and Mercy's reactions to & interactions with Sneaks. A wonderful start to a new series! Kindle Unlimited has once again introduced me to another new author and series! A great way to relax after a busy day!

While a little slow in the beginning, it developed into a gem. Female friendships in college are a precarious thing. Trust me. I've been to college and law school. But Ms Andrew's characters are so diverse and charming that you cannot help relating to them in some way. I had a total Alba attitude until I had to start interviewing for jobs. Then I was forced into Jax mode. And I am a bit partial to the Pottery Barn look.....

Book was well thought out, funny and entertaining. Every twist and turn had me wanting to follow to see what was going to happen next. The characters are relatable. Though there is some mild cursing, it's nothing you wouldn't hear at a real high school or college. There were moments that took me completely by surprise as well as those giddy feelings of justice about to be served. Very easy to follow. I would recommend this book to anyone 13 and older.

The Paranormal college starts a new year with a class of interesting witches. There is Mercy, her roommate Jax, Holly, Alba and the cold and fire sisters.
The sorceress takes the class to a murder scene and the girls sort of take on the investigation, much to the Detective’s unhappiness. When one of the squad goes missing, its all hands on deck to solve anything mystery.

this story keeps you on your toes. Entertaining and fun it keeps you reading to find out what happens next . We have witches and wizards. both good and bad. and the story moves along quickly . Although itcan be a standalone complete story it does leave you with a lead-in to the next book . Definitely recommend.

I thoroughly liked the book, was a unique portrayal of beginning of young witches and how they played off each other even though it didn't seem that way at first! Proves you can find friends in unusual places! Good book!

The first book in this series is cute and funny even dealing with murder and mayhem. Mercy is quick witted young criminal sent to witch school instead of jail. Life becomes interesting when she meets Jax, Alba, Sweets and Holly to form the Witch Squad. The characters are well written and have depth.

I've read a lot of cozy mysteries and this one had me turning pages as fast as I could. Entertaining, sweet, with character development, an exciting mystery, and page turning quality. So many cozy mysteries are pale imitations of others. Not this one! Wonderful! You won't be sorry.

Mercy is a young witch who is in a special school to learn how to use her capabilities. A loner at heart, she finds herself making friends and they are called to help the school head witch solve a murder. This is a good, quick read and the characters are likeable. Look forward to the next book.

This book is a fun, quick read. The plot is interesting and the characters are relatable. The reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because there are a few grammatical errors throughout the book. For example, the author used "their" when she should have used "there" and the were a few commas out of place.

An unusual college experience for a young witch with a lot of baggage left behind. She teams up with an unusual group of young witches and soo get in complex situations involving a murder and a very sad young ghost. A delightful story with lots of interesting situations.

M. Z. Andrews has done an amazing job with Witch Squad. Great characters, a fun mystery, and lots of laughs makes for a great book. This is the first book I've read by this author and I will definitely be reading more. Looking forward to reading the next book in this series

Written for young adults, but very well-written and can be enjoyed by all ages. Much better flow than a lot of the cozy mysteries out there. No major typos and or grammar errors that interfere with the story at all. Good plot, likeable characters.

At first I wasn't sure that Id like this series. There are similarities to Harry Potter (wizard/witch school). But as I read on there is a suspense and mystery to each story. I have enjoyed the two that I have read.

Really enjoyed this easy, fun book. It's a light read, nothing in depth or requiring a lot of concentration. Looking forward to the next one. Editor is a bit sloppy- several typos but that's the only criticism.

Wonderful book for teens! Will make a great gift for my 14 year old neice, but could be just a tad disturbing for younger audiances. Has a wonderful group of characters! Can't what to see was they get up to next.

I appreciate the complete lack of profanity in this book. The plot moves along at a good clip, and I literally read the entire book in one evening without staying up late. I would have enjoyed a bit more magic and a little less eating and driving, but the everyday and normal activities make the book a "cozy."

Great story, 5 very different girls going to witch school, become friends. Mercy the main character discovers a brother she never knew. Her grandmother forced her mom to put for adoption. Mercy talks to ghost & they become known as the witch squad. I am waiting on book 3 to find out who the father is.

This is not the great American mystery, but it is entertaining. I'm in the mood for lighthearted fiction at the moment, so this certainly fit the bill. I will be reading the next one in the series, since there is room for further character development,.

This book is an interesting take on a classic murder mystery. I love the New Adult feel to this book. It had many of the common elements for Young Adult while keeping it complex enough for adult fiction. This book is lighthearted and whimsical. Perfect for a cozy night in.

Mercy ends up at witch college trying to get her act together and ends up reluctantly befriending other witches and solving crimes. The dialogue was enough to keep my attention and the mystery was well written.
