LOVE this! I have always hated my handwriting so this is perfect for me to make my writing fancy. Just like the old letter tracing books you used when you were first learning to write except more advanced. Also has some blank practice pages in the back!

I bought Chalk Full of Love's online hand lettering course and loved it! This book is fantastic. I preordered this book for myself and for a friend's birthday. I am pleased and you will not be disappointed. Makes a great gift for crafty friends, too!

Easy instructions and great tips on what tools you need. Got the lower case letters down and then realized there's no upper case letters to practice to!! What's the point of the book if you can't learn both upper and lower letters?! So disappointed.

A Hand Lettering workshop in the comfort of your own home! I was looking for something to help me spice up addressing envelopes and I found it. Pro Tip: Use tracing paper to practice if you don't want to mess up all the pages.

Very disappointed that I pre-ordered this book and waited almost three weeks until after the release date to get it. There is nothing in this book I haven't already found on google. In fact, it's insulting that I had to pay for it. The Dancing Letters is the real kicker. One paragraph description then -- "sounds easy right!?" Um no, that's why I bought the book. Don't waste your money.

I am so glad I ordered this book! It has really helped me my lettering skills. She gives lots of space for practice with individual letters as well as quotes. My lettering has really improved as a result.

This book is the best!! I started playing around with letters a few months ago and then found this!!! The best part is how simple the instructions are! Any other product Chalkfulloflove sold I would by based on this book alone.

Love it!!! It goes step by step throughout each letter, says what tools to use, and has plenty of room to practice. My book was scheduled to be delivered in September and was delivered only 2 weeks after I purchased it!

I wanted to learn to have nicer handwriting. This is too simple.I was hoping to learn a few of the finer points of writing with nice pens. If you learned cursive in school, this isn't much more than that. Except to make some of the lines thicker. Nice package with sheets to practice your lettering on. Otherwise learn the palmer method and color the lines in.

EDIT: I changed from 2 stars to 4 stars because I received the comment from ChalkfullofLove and did as was suggested (downloaded the extras) -which indeed makes it more of a 'real' book. There are more fonts, and some more help, practice areas and "projects" to try - though I still maintain that more instruction/explanation is needed - I think this would be better if the downloadable material was actually put in all the book. I am an artist by trade and do not think this book is for people like me - I was looking for something with more technical help. This is definitely not that book. I would recommend this book for someone with general interest in the subject or looking for a fun book. It fits that bill just fine.

ORIGINAL ...it's not really ready. I am a beginner in the world of hand lettering and while I do appreciate the talent the writer possesses I am not happy that this book did not have more help, instruction and real practice. There was plenty of room for these to be added in that half the book is empty. It is a beautifully bound book but that does not make up for a lack of substance. Each of the fonts should have a discussion and practice pages, there should have been one of two suggested small projects for the beginner as well as more explanation for each of the fonts, how to get more ideas for fonts and where to go for more advanced learning. It had none of these. I feel like it was a huge waste of money when I bought 2 other books that cost less and were more helpful. Also, it seemed that the type was overly large, just to take up space. Perhaps a later edition might include a couple of smaller fonts, for those of us who want to be able to do more than large posters. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this book to anyone.

I preordered this book and was so excited for it to arrive. I've followed Sarah on instagram for some time and love her work. It's beautiful to see how the Lord is using her gifting to share with others. I highly recommend this book.

Great book for a beginner like myself. Like Sarah has said, this isn't a novel by any means, but this is a wonderful tool for beginners to hand lettering! Also really love the fact that this book is spiral, it makes it so much easier to practice!

This is a great book for a beginner, however I would be careful with assumptions from the title. Hand lettering is the art of drawing words by hand, however this book only covers the author's preferred hand lettering method, which is faux-calligraphy. The broad title could lead a customer to think this will cover many different hand lettering techniques, where it only covers a small sampling. The cursive letter drills are nice, but they are all in lowercase letters, no uppercase, and there is no summary page of all the cursive letters. I had to trace out my own page of all the cursive letters for reference later. There are summary pages of hand drawn sans serif, decorative serif, sans serif (but those are all capital, no lower case). I do like the projects and flourishes/doodling examples. The book itself is beautiful with pretty gold corner details. The majority of the pages are blank or practice pages. The buyer needs to be aware that this is really a workbook to learn a very specific and limited but beautiful and modern style of hand lettering.

Fake Calligraphy is a new one for me. But the author says right up front that is what her book teaches. So if you are looking to learn calligraphy or, like me, Brush Pen Lettering this is not the book for you. A great book for brush pen lettering is "Brush Pen Lettering." It has all you need to know to get started as well as lots of tips.

My boyfriend bought me this book for my birthday because I kept saying I wanted to learn how to do caligraphy. He bought me a traditional book and this one and the traditional one was more expensive and I couldn't catch on as easily. This book is so easy to follow and fun! I have gotten so many compliments on my calligraphy after practicing with this book and people have even hired me to do projects for them. The best part about this style that the book teaches is that you can do it with any pen or marker or pencil. You don't have to go out and buy super expensive pens which I was not sure if I wanted to so since I was just learning. She really makes it so anyone can learn and I love the whimsical style of the letters. I highly recommend this book for a beginner wanting to learn the art of easy calligraphy.

This book is phenomenal! Real talk for a minute & the deets!... it has a beautiful hard cover & sturdy spiral binding. It is SO easy to use and follow. She goes over Lettering basics, her favorite tools to use, directions on how to write each letter and ample space to recreate and practice on your own. She goes over connecting your letters, dancing letters, mixing and matching different fonts, and has a few fun projects at the end with several blank practice pages as well. There are tips throughout the book in each section. It's easy to follow along and I recommend this book HIGHLY to anyone wanting to learn, or just looking for another creative thing to try! I have looked through my fair share of modern calligraphy books and this is by far the BEST and EASIEST to follow along to. If I could give this 10 Stars I would!!

There is nothing in this book that you can't find on line. It shows samples of different fonts and then you are to trace them and try it on your own... No instruction of how to do it what-so-ever. Very Disappointing!!

Just got this book in the mail and I was thrilled!! The book itself is beautiful and great quality. I almost want to keep it out as a coffee table book! Sarah goes through how to form each letter and gives room to practice each one. This is such a great inside look into how to learn her lettering style which is exactly what I was hoping for! A perfect practice workbook.

I wanted to love this but sadly, it's not worth the money at all. This book was SO over hyped and I wish I had waited before jumping on the pre-order bandwagon. The author is no doubt a gifted hand lettering artist but the content of the book is so light. She shows one style and then has a ridiculous amount of blank practice pages. I hate paying for blank pages! This is not the book for you if you are serious about hand lettering. Would be okay for a young person who may have an interest in lettering. Not for the serious hand lettering artist.

I found this book boring and lacking styles. I purchased 3 different hand lettering books and I liked this one the least. It has too many blank pages and not enough interesting examples or styles of lettering. I was very disappointed.

As another reviewer mentioned, the book is very pretty but a majority of the pages are blank practice pages. Very disappointed, was way too much money for basically a fancy notebook. The book should have been a hand lettering guide and recommends you to purchase a practice notebook for handwriting, like they sell for kids.

I like this book so far, and have been working through it for about two weeks. However, maybe it's just the grammar nerd in me, but it bothers me how there are so many typographical errors, especially considering that it is a bestseller. Also, nearly every sentence ends in an exclamation point, which is extremely distracting and gets downright annoying. I find that the poorly-edited writing takes away from the quality of the content as well as the writer's credibility. Did no one edit this book?! It's a shame, because the book itself is gorgeous. I am really enjoying learning the letters, and have been making steady progress. I bought this book along with several other lettering books because I love crafting. I'm glad I bought it, but am also glad that I am supplementing it with other books, because as other reviewers have said, it is somewhat lacking in actual instruction.

One day I was looking through the store for books that I could use to help me with my new interest and hobby- calligraphy/brush lettering! I found a few that I liked and purchased them. I liked them. They were ok. But they didn't give me that excitement, none provided me with the style that I was interested in. So, I got back on the store and searched for more books. Then I came upon hand lettering 101 by chaulkfulloflove! Just the cover of this book alone grabbed my attention, it was the style that I was looking for! I saw that it was unavailable at the time but was only available for pre-order. I'm so glad that I preordered my copy back in March. The wait was worth while.

I read the details at the bottom about this book on the store and saw that she was on Instagram. So immediately, I started following her. I am so glad I did because one day she announced that her book was soon to be available!!!

I finally received my copy earlier this week. It was like Christmas for me. I kept checking my door to see if it was delivered (haha), when it finally came, I literally tore it open. LOL.

I LOVE THIS BOOK! It's probably my only favorite hand lettering book thus far. It's so informative and I love all the drills she's provided in it. It certainly was well thought out.

Thank you for creating such a great book. This surely helps out a lot for a beginner like myself ;)

I supposedly received extra content? This book is a supreme waste of money and I want my money back. There are free groups on facebook that are more thorough than this. I should have listened to the other people who reported that this book was full of nothing, but I was encouraged by the the claim that additional content was added.

I was so excited when I opened my the store box this morning and saw this BEAUTIFUL book! However, after purchasing the first hand lettering intro kit through Etsy, I was disappointed to see that there were really only about 6-8 pages of new information that were not provided in the original kit. This is definitely a great product to use to learn and practice, but I would not recommend buying this if you purchased her Etsy kit. Otherwise, beautiful product with helpful information!

I follow Paige Tate & Co. pretty faithfully for new products, so when I found out they were releasing a hand-lettering book, I was excited. When I received the book, the excitement died. What was touted to be a step by step lesson in hand-lettering was just a few worksheets and a few sentences. All of the page backs are blank and each section has a mostly blank introduction page, making it seem like it has more content than it really does. There is a lot of information on tools to use, but not much info on developing a style, connecting letters, or making them "dance." There are entire "sections" of the book devoted to one page and a few sentences. If you're looking for lettering worksheets, you would do better to print some online. I tried to like this book, thinking that the more I used it the more use I would get out of it. I was wrong. Huge disappointment.

I couldn't wait to get this book, I'm a big fan of chalk-full-of-love, it's a very pretty book and when the author says this in an introduction to the art of creative, they weren't lying. That's all this is there isn't even an uppercase alphabet. It doesn't really go into how to combine letters to make words. I would save your money or buy a different book, this workbook is simply not worth it.

This book doesn’t teach how to use a brush pen, it teaches feaux calligraphy (I probably spelled that wrong, sorry). It also didn’t have much content. I was better served by printing free worksheets and watching YouTube videos.

This book has the potential to be VERY cool however, the one I received is all kinds of messed up. the first mistake is that the cover is upside down and backwards. Inside the book, the pages jump from 36-50 and count down to 37 because they are put in upside down and backwards. If I had bought this for a gift for someone, I would have been very upset.

Too much of this book is either blank pages or lined pages for practice. There is not enough instruction for the price of the book. While I love the cover and the binding, I'm disappointed at the content.

I'm annoyed that the one style of calligraphy-like lettering in this book is all lowercase! There's no illustrations (therefore exercises) on capital letters, which is misleading because there's a capital "H" clearly on the dang cover of the book! Now, I just saw it does read lowercase in the long, jesus-loving description, so I guess that's on me. Still, don't show it on the cover if you're not going to teach it.

I wish I could return it but I already wrote in it. Some have posted that there is an additional download but I'm unable to find it (even commented to the author asking for clarification with no response), for lettering for gifts this may be great but for lettering for addressing or cards or anything normal it is not useful whatsoever. There is no capital alphabet or examples so all you learn is lowecase-not helpful. If you just want to learn lettering for fun and nothing where you need capital letters then it would be fine.

Barely had any traceable letters (a beginner needs more than 3 repeats per letter) and wasn't super helpful with technique either :/. Way too expensive for the quality of the book in my opinion. I wish I could return it but I've already written in it. Looking for a hand lettering book that has more traceable letters and space for doing so.

This book is trash. Some sentences are repeated and some pages are a waste of paper. It really doesn’t teach you anything and unless you can figure things out on your own then you’re screwed because you paid for a useless book. It’s not worth the money.

This is a great starter book as it only exemplifies a limited few styles and walks you step by step through each stroke of only one kind of (cursive) faux-calligraphy. It teaches you how to do some very nice work with regular writing implements and not requiring fancy expensive expert equipment. I only have two complaints:

1) as mentioned in a previous review, about half the book is blank pages or space. Yes it is designed as workbook format which I di like, but I could do without the 20+ totally blank "practice" pages at the end, or the over-priced hardcover format.

2) not meant to disrespect snores beliefs, but I don't like it when others insert their own religious beliefs into a non-religious work meant for a broader group of readers. The introduction describes the autumn or in the first sentence as a "Jesus-loving..." which is fine with me (even though I am not Christian.) Nevertheless, being a book on creative lettering or calligraphy, I don't need Jesus-loving interjected into writing samples in the book, such as "Jesus-loving + Coffee" being one of the examples for readers to trace and practice. I find it offensive simply to my intelligence when others find it necessary to deliberately insert their religious beliefs I to a non-religious work.

Overall it is a bike starter book, although a bit overpriced and with the exception of the above 2 issues. A good book. Just beware of contents.

I was incredibly excited about this book. I don't usually write reviews, so I'm writing the one I wish had been available before I ordered mine. The book starts with background about the author, followed by a table of contents. There is a little bit of information about letter types and strokes on one of the few pages that are not blank on the back side. The one page of how-to on faux calligraphy is clearly explained. Next the book moves to the writer's favorite tools but does not mention even a few of the many varieties available to make a beginner start more successfully. Then come the letter drills, 4 letters per page; each letter with arrows directing each stroke. It is one alphabet/font style done twice. The back side of the pages for these two alphabets are blank. Connecting letters is slightly explained with 2 opportunities to practice 'cat' and 'dog'. Now comes the one page...3 lines...where making the letters "dance" is supposed to be explained. Next is one other page with 6 lines about mixing and matching fonts, another 3 pages each with a hand drawn alphabet. Now already on page 75 is a one page invitation to add illustrations and flourishes. Last come 6 one-page projects, each with a page to practice and 20 more blank pages to keep practicing. It was advertised on Instagram that the book explained how to link letters but there is no real explanation to this. The book is about faux calligraphy and I was quite disappointed when I browsed and then quickly read through the whole book. (Please note the author has added a prinatable extension to the book). If you are looking to learn or practice modern calligraphy either with brush pens or faux calligraphy with fine point pens you will also find useful material in free or purchased practice sheets by various lettering entrepreneurs. The thick paper is great quality and the 100+ pages that can be practiced on either one side or both. This worbook has as much or less information already available for free on many blogs or social media posts. However...
The author added a printable extension to the workbook:'More Hand Lettering 101'. Connecting Letters (lifting the pen and transitions) is addressed in 9 pages with several exercises. There are 6 pages explaining flourishes and making letters 'dance'. The evolution of design adds 7 pages. Last come 5 pages with projects to practice. The only drawback is all this addition is separate from the book and not on the smooth yet sturdy paper on the actual book. I am very impressed with the author's commitment to quality and have added 2 stars to my initial review. This is a practical workbook to take with you; the sturdy hardcover works as support if you want to practice on-the-go. With the added pages, this book gives a fun guide to beginner faux hand lettering.

I have really enjoyed this beautiful book. I’m always looking for new styles to practice so that a I can personalize my own style. This book is a great way to do that.

Chalk Full of Love has been a favorite artist to follow for a while, and now she’s offering a fun way to study her style while teaching you techniques and skills to develop your own signature style.

This book is intended for beginners so it’s great for anyone who is just learning and not sure where to start, but it’s also a lot of fun for a more advanced calligrapher who wants to learn a fun bouncy style.

I can’t wait to get her intermediate book next! Handlettering 201, coming up!!

I received this book as a gift and I feel that it’s a great introduction to hand lettering. There is lots of space for practice which makes this book unique. You are also provided with guidance on how to connect letters into words and how to add bounce to your letters. Honestly it’s everything a beginner needs to create beautiful hand lettered works of art. I saw some people mention that the book habe so makes blank pages or space was a negative but to me it’s a positive. It allows you lots of space to practice and with hand lettering it’s all about practice. I can’t wait to buy hand lettering 201!

I absolutely adore this book! I had never lettered before and was dying to learn so I asked for it as a Christmas gift from my boyfriend. He brags now that it's the most used gift he has ever gotten me (he might be right). I lettered non-stop for weeks, practicing each letter as it is written in the book, and then working to try words. I do agree with other members that there are many blank pages, but they are blank in order to practice- which, is really the best way to learn how to letter. I love that Hand Lettering 101 gives the ways to form each letter in the faux-calligraphy style and then adds how to blend them together. I also love the suggestions for pens, etc. because as a beginner, I had no idea where to start. Now, I have more confidence on how to letter on my own, but I reference this book continually for proper formation and flourishes when I am stuck. For those who say that there are things missing from this book, the title is Hand Lettering 101- just like a college 101 course, you don't learn everything all at once! I am excited for Hand Lettering 201 to learn capital letters and more, but this book is a great start for those who are hoping to learn hand lettering and just starting out!

I just began this book after waiting months for it to be back in stock. It was well-worth the wait! I got this book because my sister’s wedding is coming up and I wanted to do some projects for her with hand lettering. I didn’t realize that I would be getting therapy too! I sat for hours on a cloudy Sunday, hand lettering with Chalkfulloflove’s guide. I was intimidated at first from looking at all the beautiful curves, but before I knew it, I was a lettering machine! I’m glad that there is another book after this to look forward to!

I was lucky enough to take Sarah's first ever in-person workshop in Austin back in 2015. I knew right then and there that if she ever wrote a book about hand lettering that I would buy it. Hand Lettering 101 is worth every penny! It's really great for beginners, so if you've been lettering for a while then you might want to skip over to 201. But if you're interested in learning lettering more for fun this book is your go to. I'm sad I left Texas because I'd take Sarah's workshops a hundred times over. But since I can't, I'll just buy up all her books!

I received this as a gift for Christmas. It's not a complicated book but the directions in it are easy to understand and follow. I like that there is plenty of room on each page for practice and that she has it laid out so that you can master one part of lettering and then take on the next. The only thing that I wish it had, was a link to printable pages for continued practice. I front feel like I have enough practice pages to really get the hang of it and I don't have a copier that I could use to make additional pages.

For everyone complaining about how simple this book is, you probably don't have a stack of hand lettering books on your nightstand.

All the other books gave other styles but none of them provide the easy, broken down basics like this book. After spending some time with this book you will be able to break into your own styles.

My new favorite activity! I have been a follower of chalk full of love for a couple of years and was so excited when I received this book as a Christmas gift! I’ve tried calligraphy in the past with nib and ink but prefer her “faux calligraphy” method since I am much more comfortable using pens and markers. It is easier to learn, plus more relaxing!! This book lets you explore your creativity with lots of lettering fun. There are some very informative tips and I love that I can practice right on the pages with a variety of lettering prompts to experiment with. If you have been wanting to learn calligraphy this is the perfect book to get!!

This book is the best! I’ve tried for so long to just simply mimic hand lettered drawings that I have seen online or on items that I have. This is basically just a guessing game of how they get the look that they do, but not really learning the technique behind it to create my own images. This book breaks down the how-to, and really gives you plenty of room to practice ( multiple times, too!) I’m in love with the projects section at the end where you’re given space to draw but plenty of inspiration to go with it! 10/10 and I’m so excited to get 201??

I absolutely loved this book! I got it for Christmas and haven't stopped writing since then. I liked the space provided for practicing but I opted to get a notebook to practice in. I liked how she showed the structure of each letter and then teaches you how to connect letters later in the book. She teaches the fundamentals first before moving on to words. Also, I enjoyed how she emphasized finding your own font/lettering style. I found it to be very helpful. If you are willing to put in the time to practice and learn the art of hand lettering, this book will aid you in your journey. If not, it is not the fault of the book, but rather the individual.

I LOVE this book! It has been the perfect introduction for me to get started on hand lettering! The paper is thick and markers/pens don't bleed through and the heavy spiral binding makes it durable and easy to lay flat when working in the book. I love the ample practice space that has really allowed me to work on getting my letter shapes just right and work on tricky letters more than one time. I am excited to try out the next book as soon as I finish this one!

I LOVE this book! I have always been a typography nerd, but kind of lost the beauty of my craft when I was in uni. I found CFL on Instagram and immediately knew I needed this book. This has helped me improve my craft so much with its easy step by step guide and LOTS of practice pages. I’ve been pacing myself because I love it so much and don’t want the book to end!! I’ve also found that this is great for improving my everyday handwriting and really helps with my mental health because it’s such a peaceful “me time” activity. Don’t think twice about buying this book, just do it!

This book is amazing! I got it for Christmas and I've been working on it non-stop. I was kinda worried it would be one of those things that I lose interest in quickly, but it's become part of my daily routine. At first it took me a long time to get through the letter drills but because of all the practice, I can easily work on them while watching TV (Fuller House is my fav :) ). I've just started the section on connecting letters and I'm amazed by how quickly my lettering has improved. Also, I agree that there are a lot of blank pages but that's what makes this book so great for me. Other lettering books don't give you a lot of space to practice but I like that I can practice right in the book. I feel like the book would have still be popular even if she excluded the practice pages and sold a thinner book. Think of it as a bonus! 10/10 would recommend.

As a true novice to calligraphy, I found this book extremely helpful. The cover is hard and makes it easy to practice the samples in the book anywhere. The pages are thick enough so the brush marker doesn't leak through. I do agree with some of the other reviewers that there are several blank pages that could have been filled with more practice areas or instructions. But overall it's a great learning tool for beginners!

Really REALLY huge waste of money. I'm so disappointed I purchased this in a brick and mortar store, because now I can't return it. I'll donate it to goodwill, but even so it's worthless. There is zero instruction on hand lettering here. The cover is lovely--and that's the extent of the "good" about this book. Don't waste your money.

I received this book as a gift for Christmas. I'm in love! My handwriting is messy so I thought it was going to be hard for me to learn how to do this, but after practicing for just 2 days, I was able to start writing on my own.

This is a book for beginners like me. Someone pointed out that the cursive is just one style but that makes sense. When we learn cursive in school we are taught one way to do it and then we develop our own "flair" once we've learned. This is her style but she even states that as we learn her style, we will be able to play with it and make it our own and add our flair to it. I'm super happy with the progress I'm making! Bonus: It's fun and relaxing!

I REALLY wanted to love this book and I probably would have given it 5 stars IF there was more content. The book has a total of 112 pages, of that there are no back pages so you have to cut that number in half to 56 pages. Add that to the fact that from pages 97 to 112 they are just totally blank pages, that's right NOTHING! So that makes about 30-ish pages of content for a $25 book. Seems a bit steep. Thats the main con. I missed the first shipment even though I pre-ordered so I had to wait a while until the shipment cleared customs. I was a bit disappointed that the book was not made here in the US, especially considering the price, which is another negative of the book. The pro is that you do get some good faux calligraphy information and practice. I could have used a bit more in the dancing letters section though. It is an OK book overall, but I did find a lot of the same stuff online for a fraction of the cost. As far as hand lettering books goes this is one of the better ones for faux calligraphy even though it is very light on material. I will still hold on to it for the content it does have.

UPDATE- The author listened to her customers and made some awesome changes! Once you purchase this book you can go to a link and download even more content that makes this book complete. Just because of that I increased my stars to 4. I assume at some later point that the printable content will be included in the book. Once that happens....5 stars all the way. Awesome job Chalkfulloflove for using positive criticism to make adjustments so your book will be that much better!

I agree with others that it is a pretty blank book.
The practice pages have so much real estate yet it’s wasted on how large the letters are.
Also, step 1 is repeated before you move to step 2.
The book illustrates lowercase but not uppercase.
So glad I bought it on the store and didn’t pay the full price for this on the author’s website.

I was given this book as a birthday gift and so far it's been a great reference when I'm hand lettering things, like the pages in my bullet journal. The book features what I consider "typical" modern calligraphy. I haven't used the practice pages yet since I don't really "struggle" with hand lettering - I just sometimes don't love my own style so I use this as a reference to achieve that "typical" cutesy hand lettering style on certain letters (the tip of my lower case S is much sharper than Chalk Full Of Love's, for example).
Overall, I'm really happy I got this as a birthday gift and I'll continue to use it as a reference. Heck, maybe one day I'll even use the practice space!

Got this as a gift; It's useless. Almost 20 dollars for a book to practice in. It teaches nothing. A 97 cent notebook from Walmart would have done the same thing. Save your money or look at other options. The publisher of this book is a crook for charging this much for this absolutely useless book.....and I'm an idiot for adding it to my wishlist so somebody would buy it for me.

It is a beautiful book but not quite what I expected - it seems focused on calligraphy like lettering - and I was looking for some other options as well. There isn't much room in the book to practice and once you are done with it, you have a pretty expensive book that you can't do much with except reference.

Love love love this book!!! It has helped me so much with my hand lettering. I was able to learn pretty quick because of the awesome tutorials. The lettering style is just beautiful. Such a great book! I was super excited when I saw this book available for preorder and even more excited when it arrived in the mail! It's a beautiful book that is not only full of great tips and tricks, but will also look great on any coffee table or desk. The pages are full of examples and simple directions that are easy to follow to help you achieve the best hand lettering possible. She gives you detailed info on the direction of the strokes and goes beyond traditional calligraphy to include serif and sans serif fonts and tips for creating them. There are lots of great areas for practicing and ideas for combining fonts to make different phrases.

I love practicing with this book and have already seen big improvement in my lettering and understanding of the process. Definitely recommend!

Received this as a gift from someone who knows my love of doodling/handlettering and I was super excited but then a little let down at the lack of actual teaching. I follow @chalkfulloflove on IG and love her work, but honestly I’ve learned more thru following @thehappilyevercrafter and using her more affordable workbooks.

This has been one of the most helpful calligraphy and lettering book that I have gotten. An honest and thorough approach and so cute and fun! This is the perfect gift for someone you love (or yourself) if you want to learn how to do calligraphy or want something to do while you watch netflix after a long day. Thankful for people who create such great tools for creatives!

Let me start with I have the WORST handwriting. Truly it’s terrible. Also, I’m not artistic in the least bit. So when I tell you this book is amazing and makes it incredibly easy to learn, trust that I’m not lying! It’s very detailed and there’s a lot of practice options. Sarah, the author, breaks it down so well that anyone can learn. If I can learn from this book ANYONE can. Don’t hestitate to buy it, you won’t regret it!

I purchased this for my dad to give to my mom as a Christmas gift. She loves it!! She recently retired and wants to take up hand lettering as a hobby after using calligraphy for many years. I did lots of research on the best options to help her learn to hand letter, and this by far was the best option I could find!

I have taken several lettering classes both in person and online. This guide puts them all to shame. I love that it allows me to use whatever materials I am comfortable with and put my own unique twist on my personal format while still helping me with the tricky aspects. I would definitely recommend this for anyone who is hoping to improve their lettering! Highly recommend this guide!

I am a beginner and bought several books on lettering, but this was the one that really clicked with me. The book itself is spiral bound and beautiful, and I found the lessons to be non-intimidating and perfect for beginners like me. Once I finish working through this book, I will definitely start with 201.

I received this book as a gift, and was so excited! I immediately jumped in and practiced until my hand couldn't take it anymore. Lol The book is beautiful, well made (I like how you can fold it all the way back with the coil.), and it gives you ample practice space. I love her style of handlettering and can't wait to get the 201 book.

Y’all. I love this book! I teach 5th grade reading and writing, and have to make SO many anchor charts. This book helped me make those boring charts so much more fun and whole lot prettier! Now my students enjoy looking at the charts around my room, and I actually enjoy making them! I can’t wait to get 201 in the mail soon!

Sarah nailed it with hand lettering 101! The beautiful gold spiral lets the book lay flat which is super nice and easy to work out of. It is so pretty inside and out that it could double as a coffee book table it looks that good! The content is great, clear, and super easy to read and follow along! Hope there is a Hand lettering 102!

I absolutely love this book! I have been writing and rewriting the alphabet for years and being slightly OCD with my handwriting, I always get stuck writing in a straight line! I'm also a teacher, so making letters the "right" way is engrained in my mind! This is helping me loosen up and have fun with lettering!! I love the spiral bound with lots of room to practice!! Highly recommend!

I love this book! It has tons of practice sheets, which are easy to copy to make additional sheets. I've also had a really easy time practicing in pencil, then erasing without tons of smudging or torn sheets. I would buy again.

I've always wanted to get into calligraphy, but never wanted to invest in all the tools needed. I got this workbook as a gift and have learned how to make pretty hand lettering with any sort of writing utensil! You don't need fancy pens or markers, I just used a sharpie! And it looks so great! Thank you Chalkfulloflove for putting this together!

I have loved her work for months, and when her book came out, I knew I had to do it! I trace the wording with pencil, then try to copy on other paper. It's really about the practice and learning your own style. It was my favorite Christmas gift and I can't wait to make some fun things for our home! Thank you so much for this!

I first would like to say that I do not disrespect the artist/author of the book, I think her artwork is great and I even preordered the book as soon as it was listed.
This book is gorgeous and practical. Her one style of faux calligraphy is very pretty and the examples are very clear.
BUT, there is only one style of "cursive" hand lettering demonstrated and three block letter or print examples. BUT, the blank pages.... About 45% of the book is blank pages, not to mention all the white space. It makes for a very clean look on a book but it feels like they could have printed a booklet and told you to buy a realm of paper for practice instead. Even with the printed guidelines for practice the amount of blank pages is excessive. Pages 96-110 are ENTIRELY BLANK but for the page number, and so is almost half of the book.
It is introductory so it is strictly for beginners.
The cover is very hard and the wire bound feature is very nice for practicing. If you use the pages for writing you don't need an extra notebook.

I was thoroughly enjoying your lettering book until I ran across the page of Jesus and Coffee. If I had known that you think everyone that buys your book is Christian, I would have invested in a more inclusive book. This subtle way of oozing religion into a seemingly non-denominational activity book makes my skin crawl. Is there any way to get a refund or partial refund? I don't even want this book in my house.

1) Nicely designed book, but very light on actual content.

2) I will be ripping out and discarding pages 92 and 93, which contain religious content. I (as would most) expect an art/craft book to be non-theistic, as hand lettering is a topic in which the author's religious beliefs are neither relevant nor acceptable. I find the mentions of Jesus to be highly offensive and a complete turn-off. In fact it is extremely presumptuous of the author and the publisher to think that any reader would want to see anything religious in a book on hand lettering. Really, really lame.
