This was different from her usual books, but I still liked it. Will probably read the next one just to c if the dead can come back..lol.. Stevie was a witch until she tried to help a little boy and had her powers taken. Her and her bat familiar has been kicked out of Paris, TX.. Only to find of she has a spirit she can hear who wants her help to find a murder.. Like I said different no boyfriend no sex.. Different but I liked it.. ?

Witch Slapped is the first book in the Witchless In Seattle series. I was drawn to this book because of the cover and to the hilarious synopsis. Witch Slapped is a cute and fun cozy mystery and is a good start for a new series.
What did I like?
• Stevie is an ex-witch with a fun personality. Despite losing her powers and having to find a job in the mortal world, Stevie kept a good attitude. Stevie often referred to TV dramas (for example Alias and Kojak) that made me laugh. She is a sassy character and is willing to help everyone (even though the town thinks she’s a murderer).
• Belfry is a talking bat and Stevie’s familiar. I never thought I would say a bat is “cute” but Belfry is a funny sidekick.
• Winterbottom is a recently departed British ex-spy who enlists the help of Stevie and Belfry. He is a ghost with a mysterious past and I couldn’t resist his charm. There are scenes with Stevie and Winterbottom that had me laughing out loud. They have good chemistry together and work well as a crime solving duo.
• The town of Ebenezer Falls is filled with likeable characters and I didn’t feel overwhelmed with a long list of suspects.
What didn’t I like?
• The pace was slow in parts of the story. I listened to the audio version so I found myself losing my concentration on the story.
• The mystery was ok with some twists but overall I didn’t think it was an exciting story. The characters is what stands out for me.
• The narrator’s performance was ok but I didn’t like her voice for Belfry. It was too high pitched. I also thought the narrator didn’t bring any excitement to the story. I think this I would have enjoyed this more if I had read the book.
Overall I liked Witch Slapped and look forward to reading more in the series. This is a fun read and perfect for readers looking for a little mystery and some quirky characters.

Loved the story want to read more of this series, but the kindle devices' audio version was a real disappointment, the narrator is monotone, mispronounced words, and when the book was at 80% half of the page you were reading was on the next page and some of the sentences were missing on the following page so you were missing part of the story.

Dakota Cassidy strikes again, in the absolute best possible way! The start of this paranormal cozy mystery series dives right in with a nifty premise, excellent setting and fabulous characters.
Stevie [like Nicks the singer] is a witch without powers. They were taken from her and she was made to leave her old magic life and home in Texas. So she moved to her old hometown in Washington. She does have her familiar, a bat named Belfry, and he seems able to continue their work since he still has a finger on the pulse of the afterlife and can talk to the dead. Along comes a spirit named Winterbottom. He is an English spy of the double-aught, shaken-not-stirred variety. Love him! I adore the show 'Lucifer', mostly because of Tom Ellis who plays the fallen angel. And it was his voice I heard in my cranium as I read Win's dialogue. Yum.
Love Stevie, a woman I could be friends with. She loves treasure shopping at thrift stores and she has a need to help the helpless. And she drives a Fiat, my dream car. Still don't know if it's a 500 or an Abarth, but it's red and a convertible. SWEET!
Stevie gets involved in the mystery in a believable way, she has to defend herself from being a suspect. Someone killed the spirit medium, Madam Zoltar, and everyone thinks Stevie did the deed.
Lots of nifty dangly bits to make the reader want to, nay, need to read the next in the series.
Definitely recommend.

This is my foray into the Dakota Cassidy mystery series. As my first book Witch Slapped was not a bad way to start.
Stevie is a witch no longer and she cannot help the dead to move on without her powers. Belfry is her familiar with an attitude and he is snarky at best. You will be introduced to Winterbottom a spy no longer as he is dead.
These three together will keep you entertained. The character each bring something to the story to keep you engage throughout the whole book. Yes, there are time you would like to hit them upside their heads for the decisions they make but that is what makes the story interesting.
I have voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC from the author without obligation to do so.

Brilliant, well-paced, and absolutely hilarious Dakota Cassidy entertained me from start to finish. The tale is cute but filled with snark, humorous situations, delightful characters and a well-developed murder mystery.
Banter between the Winterbottom and Stevie had me laughing aloud and left me eager for the next installment. Belfry is the BEST FAMILIAR EVER! The synopsis does not mention what Belfry is and I will not either. I will tell you it is not a cat and Stevie carries Belfry around in her purse.
Hollie Jackson perfectly captured Stevie. I loved her voices for Winterbottom and Belfry. She added just the extra touch to this already fun cozy.
Those looking for well-written characters and hilarious dialogue wrapped around a murder mystery should grab their earbuds and a copy of Witch Slapped. Audio provided by publisher full review at caffeinated book reviewer

Wow! If you like the accidentals series you'll love this one just as much. Stevie is a witch who is now "witchless" due to circumstances beyond her control. She returns to her hometown to lick her wounds and figure out what the next phase of her life will look like with her familiar Belfry (a small bat) in tow. Seemingly Stevie has also lost the ability to speak with the dead which is something she thinks she will miss until she is approached by Winterbottom or Win, a British spy who enlists Stevie to help him solve a murder. As a reader you start to feel bad for Stevie as she is accused of committing the murder she is trying to solve but then you realize with the help of Win Stevie will pull through like a champ. I honestly can't wait to read the rest of the series and wonder how I missed this line of books.

In received a copy for my honest review. Meet Stevie, this book is written from her perspective. She is a character from another series and is now the main character in this series. Stevie is a former witch that is trying to learn to live as a mere powerless human. She discovers many new friends in this story and solves a murder mystery. This book has lots of comic moments and will have you trying to solve the mystery. You'll quickly fall in love with Stevie and her sidekick Belfry. By the end of the book you'll be begging for more. This book is a great read for anyone

This book was a blast!
I adored it.
Great characters, fun and so damn witty.
Stevie is witchless, literally. She lost her powers and was uprooted from her witch peeps. She moved back to her hometown. And almost immediately stumbles upon a dead body AND begins to hear the voice of a dead British spy. Along with her bat familiar Belfry, chaos ensues as they try to solve Madam Zoltar's murder. This book is hilariously funny, sweet and an escapade!!!
Great start to a new cozy series! Highly recommend, and looking forward to book 2.

Poor Stevie does what she thinks is right and ends up getting her powers slapped out of her by a dead warlock. She goes back to her hometown and tries to start again. Her familiar, a bat named Belfry, hooks her up with a ghost, Win. This is where her life changes drastically. You have to read the book for more. It is definitely worth it!
This book grabs you from the start and it is hard to put down. Dakota does a great job developing and describing the characters so that you feel that you are part of the story.

This was actually my first book by Dakota Cassidy, but it won't be my last. This was really fun! The heroine Stevie had a lot of spunk, the dialogue was witty, and her sidekick Belfry was adorable. Winn was a great supporting character, and his character was almost, if not more, fun than Stevie's. I'm really looking forward to seeing where the author takes this series. The actual murderer was not really a surprise, but overall the book was an enjoyable read.

Loved this! Great story, funny dialog, endearing characters!
What's a witch to do, when she's no longer a witch? Go home, get accused of murder and pick up a wayward spirit from the other side That's what! Fast paced and adorable, this is a wonderful cozy mystery!
