One of the authors asked me to read & review this book.
It's a book about mindfulness, getting into the right habits, avoiding the wrong habits, addressing procrastination. It explains a lot of whys and has a bunch of how-to's and step-by-steps for you to follow to overcome certain things such as procrastination.
If you've never read anything like this before its a good place to start. If you've read something around this topic it covers things that you likely already have read and know.
There are a lot of cross-references to other books that the authors have written and I guess that may be interesting if you want to go off on that tangent and / or to read more about this topic.
It was not a book that I found that I could not put down, it did require some effort to get through it all, but maybe its because I've read a lot around the subject and tranches of it were same same but just a little different.
Still a worthwhile read, several useful nuggets in it and I want to read several of the other books these authors have written as I am sure there's more gold in them words.
Thanks Steve for getting me to read this!

I got this book on audible. The narrator reads this book way too fast. It's hard to comprehend what he's saying. He barely pauses between sentences it's like a rambling of words not thoughts. That's my only complaint I will be adding this guys name to.a list and in future if I See he's narrated a book I won't go Audible
Option.

I got this ebook as a free download through Kindle Unlimited.

I enjoyed reading this book. It made me think about a lot of things. I never knew there were so many benefits of meditation. Maybe I should try it out! I also like the idea of setting aside some "worry time." I don't believe in bottling things up -- even worry. It's just a matter of putting our worries to productive use!

I really wish the author would not clump everyone together into one category (the introduction to Part 4). I don't spend hours on social media, I don't take selfies (don't like them) and I don't fill my house up with "more and more stuff." I also do some of the things suggested in this book, like doing 3 big tasks in one day, planning my tasks for the week on weekends, and also how I will accomplish them, as well as breaking things down into 30-minute increments. I don't break my tasks down into minutiae subtasks -- I don't want things to get too complicated -- but I outline general steps to take to completing my tasks.

Bottom line: I am not like a lot of the people clumped together to use as examples of what can create a cluttered mind (like constantly being distracted by things), but I did find a lot of information in this book to be useful.

Authors handsome S.J. (Steve) Scott (who runs the blog Develop Good Habits) and beautiful Barrie Davenport (a personal coach, personal development blogger, teacher, and author from North Carolina0 serve as our coaches in this very worthwhile guide to decluttering – not just our live space, but also our thinking space. They represent the concept of mindfulness, so popular among social coaches at the moment, and to get to that plane they discuss how to stop worrying, relieve anxiety and eliminate negative thoughts In this Book 1 of their series The Mindfulness Book Series.
The accessible yet sophisticated writing of the book and the encouragement they offer is evident in the first few words – about how thoughts determine our outcomes – ‘Ever feel overwhelmed by your thoughts? Do you struggle with stress or anxiety about the tasks you need to complete on a weekly basis? Do you want to simply stop worrying about life in general? We all experience negative thinking from time to time. But if you often feel overwhelmed by these thoughts, then you should closely examine what you’re thinking and how your thoughts impact your mental well-being. This inner monologue is a natural part of your mental landscape. It’s there all the time, night and day, reminding you about the groceries you need to pick up, shaming you about missing your sister’s birthday, or making you feel anxious about current headlines (like politics, the environment, or the current state of the economy).’ Hit home? If it does, this is the book to study.

In a very user friendly manner (but one with stern seriousness about encouraging us to follow in their concepts) these two bright young writers divides their path as follows: DECLUTTERING YOUR THOUGHTS (Four Causes of Mental Clutter, Mental Declutter - Focused Deep Breathing, Meditation, Reframe ALL Negative Thoughts, Teach Your Old Mind New Tricks); DECLUTTERING YOUR LIFE OBLIGATIONS (The Importance of Core Values, Strategies -Identify YOUR Core Values, Clarify Your Life Priorities, Focus on Mindful Goal Setting, Create Quarterly S.M.A.R.T. Goals, Connect Goals to Your Passions); DECLUTTERING YOUR RELATIONSHIPS (The Negative Impact of Bad Relationships, Relationship Strategies - Be More Present, Getting Unstuck from the Past, Mindfulness with Your Partner, Let Go of Certain People); DECLUTTERING YOUR SURROUNDINGS (The Value of Decluttering Your Surroundings, Simplify Your Home, Simplify Your Digital Life, Simplify Your Activities, Simplify Your Distractions (to Overcome Procrastination), Simplify Your Actions).

In closing they offer that ‘Training your mind is the mental equivalent of tidying your house. It’s a habit you must repeat daily in order to stay on top of it. But training your mind is not as straightforward or simple as housekeeping. Managing your thoughts takes commitment and practice. It also requires daily— even moment-by-moment— awareness of your mental state and the shenanigans of your monkey mind.’ Feel tidier, more organized and cleaner after just looking at the content list? The this is definitely a book to read and re-read and share. Grady Harp, September 16

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for a review.

I gained a ton of knowledge from this book. I am a person who constantly has to plan, organize, and literally use up every second of my day to it's full extent. I am even often running late bc I try to cram so many things into my day at once. This book helps break all that is necessary to fill my time with while throwing out what I do not absolutely NEED in order to achieve a certain satisfaction to my day. I really like the step processes and how everything is explained in vivid detail with examples. My only complaint is there were more than a few times in this book that I felt alot of the key points were actually cancelled out by another piece of information, almost as if they were contradictory. If the way this was presented wasn't in the order they wrote it it would definitely be very confusing but overall I really enjoyed this book. I feel like I can actually walk away from this book with a sense of empowerment by applying some of what I learned here to set some straight forward and realistic goals for myself.

I have read my fair share of books on decluttering, finding your passion, defining your core values, etc. This book is one of the best ones I've read that doesn't just rehash the same ideas.

The authors divide the books into sections on decluttering thoughts, life obligations, relationships and surroundings. All are important because each affects our minds and how present we are in our lives for the people and the passions that we have.

The book offers exercises to help the you identify what your core values are and then how to approach them so that you are living in alignment with those values and eliminating the distractions that are all around you. It becomes easier to say no to the things that keep you busy but that only take you further away from what you truly value and want to give your time and attention to.

The book emphasizes mindfulness and offers suggestions on on to bring mindfulness to everything we do, our relationships, our work and our material stuff.

It's a winner.

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for a review. But I would recommend this book without hesitation to anyone whose "monkey mind" holds him back from living authentically.

This book is poorly written and full of typos. I couldn't get through the first few pages. It is an example of self-publishing at its worst. The authors should have hired a professional editor and/or proofreader. The version I am reviewing is the e-book available on iBooks.

I see that other reviewers have posted that the information in this book is "self-evident" or "obvious." I think for some people, that may be true. For me, some of the information in this book prompted me to think differently about things.I had never thought in-depth about my values and actions before (assuming that of course I would not undermine anything I think I believed in with my actions - that would be stupid, right?). For people who are seeking to improve themselves and the way they think, this is a good book. For people who don't have any interest in self-examination or who are at a point in their lives where they think they are living out their values as fully as possible, then this book is probably not for you. It may be similar to other self-help books, but I never tire of hearing about how to use my common sense. As a dumb human, I need a constant reminder to think and be mindful of my thoughts and actions.

I would love to listen to this on audiobook. I sounds like the information it offers might be useful. But after listening to the sample, I can't imagine anyone trying to eliminate stress from their life listening to this. The narrator is talking so fast, I think I would have an anxiety attack after the first ten minutes. This fellow is a professional narrator? The poor guy. He sounds like someone is poking him with a sharp stick. I can't imagine why an audiobook would be released like this.

This is a good guide for pinpointing areas that are often problematic for many when it comes to clutter whether it be digital, mental or tangible for that matter. I enjoyed reading this and picked up some tips and techniques to apply to daily tasks. I wasn't so fond of all of the reading, call me simple minded but sometimes pictures, diagrams and charts are nice occasionally.

Much of what I read in this book I have read in others. But I think the first half of the book is stronger than the second. The first half offers a suggested method for establishing a solid foundation upon which to build a uncluttered life. The steps they offer to define values and priorities are simple to understand and begin. The only reason I have given this book 4 stars is because of the 400-word list of values from which they recommend choosing up to 10. I thought this was overwhelming and I have been studying and practicing personal development for twenty-plus years. I can't imagine how a person just starting may feel with such a long list to choose from. Overall, this book is a useful tool from which I will extract information to recommend to others... as well as recommending they read it.

One of the best books I read about how to get rid of clutter. I really enjoyed it and found very helpful ways to reduce clutter in every area of life, no matter if is things or mental clutter. The reading was a great way to rethink my relationship with the things I own and the activities I squeeze in my calendar.

The nice surprise in this book is that it moves beyond mental clutter and into the areas of life that might benefit from a decluttering process - and shows you how to make that happen.

Also very helpful to read concise explanations why we naturally tend to become mentally cluttered, stressed, negative and so forth. It's so easy to think there is something wrong with you if your inner and outer lives are not going perfectly. Well, it IS normal to be overwhelmed and discouraged at times. And this book gives you some very simple steps to move into a much more balanced and peaceful place. Thank you!

Ah, clutter...we all have it. And in today's world it has gotten into our minds. There are some very good points in this book on how to handle the everyday worries and anxiety that seem to affect all of us. But reading about eliminating it and doing it is quite different. We can always try and I do follow some of the points given in this book but somehow I really am not sure you can turn off what swirls in your mind every minute, hour or day.

But at least this is a road map to follow. And I suppose if you are really diligent about it, it will work. Having just retired I certainly have eliminated the stress of work....that's a start!

While I have always found it very difficult to alter my thinking, I must admit, I do find myself remembering (and now practicing) many of the useful techniques offered in this book. I highly recommend this well written, simplified manual for breaking free from intrusive thought and mind clutter.

I've read quite a few books that have discussed topics in this book. While nothing in this book is new, the points are very concise and to the point. There is very little fluff in this book, just useful tips and information. This book is like a summary of many other books on similar topics. I'd recommend it.

Both the authors have written several other books designed to help readers change a specific aspect of their lives.

This book is no exception. It is for anyone who recognizes how their untamed thoughts are interfering with their focus, productivity, happiness and peace of mind.

The four parts deal with, respectively, decluttering your thoughts, life obligations, relationships and surroundings.

What I liked most about the book were the many useful suggestions that can easily be implemented, such as this idea on setting a worry-timer:
Set a timer for 10 to 15 minutes and allow yourself to stress over whatever enters your mind. Get it all out! Take the time to express all the bottled up feelings and thoughts. In fact, during your "worry time," you might even write down your thoughts in a journal Writing in longhand helps you process your thoughts and can often lead to a creative solution to your problem.

I also liked how the authors used themselves as real-life examples on what you need to do, for instance, when writing a vision:
I am in a relationship that is loving, respectful, and mutually supportive with a smart, creative, funny, kind, and ethical man. I have a network of close and supportive friends and family with whom I regularly spend time, and I have a loving positive relationship with each of my three young adult children. I frequently spend time in nature, and travel to new locations several times a year. I remain active, energetic, and health conscious with ever passing year, and I remain open to new opportunities and possibilities for my life.

If you often find yourself with a cluttered mind, this is a book that you will find most valuable.

Note: I was given a free copy of DECLUTTER YOUR MIND in exchange for this review, but that fact did not affect my opinion.

After reading through this, I came away energized. The book left me already using a few simple changes to avoid the pitfalls of a habitually cluttered mind. Peace and clarity of thought is actually possible. Find your valuable "Take Away" within these pages and enjoy your life again.

It's a solid book for those of us that want to examine life and simplify. Great books referenced and lots of very helpful tips but the reason I didn't give 5 stars is because there wasn't anything extremely original.

I tend to replay past events like a broken record. Declutter your Mind has helped me to focus on the present, stop worrying about the future, and, most importantly, to stop reliving the past. I highly recommend it.

When i read the title to this book I instantly knew i needed to read it. I have so much mental clutter that I often have trouble falling asleep and can't keep my mind focused on current tasks. The book recommends reading it one time through and then go back and determine what actions you want to take to improve your mental clutter. I have already started with the breathing exercises and I believe that has helped already. Everyone should read this book!

In many ways, this was a refresher read. However, it provided many things I had not considered before. Everyone needs to declutter one or more of the areas covered, so I consider it a good read and fast read for everyone.

I've read several books by Steve and Barrie and they have the same thing in common - they both put tons of thought into each book they write. And most importantly, their books are full of practical, actionable advice and this one is no exception. it's helpfully broken down into 4 main areas so you can tackle each one separately or even choose which one you want and leave the rest (although for maximum benefit, i recommend you try all four.

Good title ........ it gets the attention of the busy over stretched person looking for a solution. The topic is well presented. The book is informative. It does not disappoint. It broadens the view of what contributes to a cluttered mind. It offers clearly defined ways of identifying and dealing with the clutter.

I did receive this product for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review, but all opinions are 100% my own. I did not receive compensation or payment in any way. I am a big believer that we are geniuses in getting in our own way. We are experts at making straight lines crooked and painting ourselves into corners. I like this book because it is to the point and practical. In particular, the section on 'Decluttering Your Thoughts' was in line with my work as a psychologist/psychotherapist. I would recommend this book as a vehicle to help reduce anxiety and negativity.
