Tatiana and Alexander was difficult for me to get used to reading and first -- there is so much internal dialogue between characters that sometimes you forget who is talking. Once you get over this, the story line is engaging and heartbreaking. Sometimes I wanted to scream at the characters in this book -- at Tatiana who was too afraid to let her sister know about her true love and at Alexander who pretended for so long to Tatiana's face not to love her just to appease her sister. When Tatiana and Alexander could be together, the heat and passion were palpable and you yourself wish for such love in your own life. Mixed with love and passion was the struggle all of the characters went through in the harsh and unforgiving Leningrad; there was no hiding the sometimes inhumane conditions and actions that went on in that desperate city. Overall this is a great love story mixed with war, struggle and survival.

What a journey! Two novels long, beginning with "The Bronze Horseman." Do yourself a favor and start with that one first. This is brilliant , deep, emotionally embedded reading at its best! If you love historical fiction romance, I guarantee you have found a treasure trove with these two books! You won't want to put either of these novels down . Really Exceptional ! Now what will I do without these characters in my life on an everyday basis? They will become embedded deeply within your hearts, as they did in mine! Enjoy!

My friend Lee talked me into getting this book. I enjoy reading about Russian history. This story of love, danger , tragedy and hope shows the ironies of the people trying to deal with the war and starvation. This is the second book of the trilogy and I am now reading the last. This is a great read. I loved it.

A truly spellbinding novel following the lives of Tatiana and Alexander who we met in The Bronze Horseman. I loved the way both characters had flashbacks, revisiting their brief time together. The faith they both have in each other is remarkable and helps them in their darkest times.
I can not wait to read the last book in the trilogy.

Both this and The Bronze Horseman have become my new ALL TIME FAVORITE book series. I haven't loved a story and set of characters like this since Rhett and Scarlett in Gone with the Wind! I loved it SO incredibly much, it's not funny!!

This book was the perfect read, to continue the love story and heartache that is, Alexander and Tatiana. I am in love with the characters and can't stop reading these books! Highly recommend all 3 in the series.

I really loved 'The Bronze Horseman' and immediately followed it with this book, the next in the series. Although I enjoyed it, I found that it was very repetitive because it retold much of the previous book, even word for word in parts. I actually skipped over some parts that I remembered. This is good for people who haven't read the first book but I would strongly recommend that everyone read this book as it is great. I felt that this second book moved very slowly but I kept reading as I really loved the characters in the first book and wanted to know what happened to them. Now I am reading the third book.

An excellent read if you have read the previous books in the series. Alexander & Tatiana a beautiful love story woven around the horrific conditions of the War, which made it all that more interesting. I'll be reading the series again.

A great novel written with lots of thought. The first part of the book was a slow go for me, maybe because I couldn`t wait for them to reunite. But the ability to see the picture of how life was during that period, quickly made one realize that it is not just a love story but a period of time that left a mark in life. Very emotional and inspirational book. Looking forward to rereading it again sometime once I am ready to relive the whole story again.

I loved "The Bronze Horsemen," minus the ending. I would suggest that everyone stop reading about 3 chapters before the end because the book left me hanging so much. I was thrilled to discover "Tatiana and Alexander." It filled in more of the story, and I no longer felt jilted at the end of the reading. Paulina Simons does a beautiful job crafting her characters in a historical setting. As with most Russian fiction, there is sadness, but it is well worth the time!

The first book was fascinating with the history. Way too much sex. Disturbing ending. Titiana & Alexander was good and hopeful. Alexander's rescue was great, but not very realistic. The second book left me with a little bit more hope for a happy life for them.

I loved the whole series of Tatiana and Alexander from "the Bronze Horseman" to "Summer Garden". This love story is full of drama and passion and I found it both intense and delightful; what their love had to go through and survive. The things they had to work out in their marriage felt believable.I couldn't put it down. Paullina Simons writes beautifully and captured me from the beginning. I highly recommend this series.
