Jonathan Maberry has delivered yet another action thriller for zombie lovers. Evil people do evil things - for money or for religion. It's good to know that men like Joe Ledger are out there in the literary world protecting the innocent. Larger-than-life action needs larger-than-life characters. Joe Ledger, Gault and The Fighter deliver.

Spent a whole night reading this. Yes, there were some passages that did not interest me more than others, but the sum was really great. Love broken heros. Love broken heros who get on with life in better shape. Found so much that I look forward to reading sequal. All in all I recommend!

My first read of this author...really enjoyed the pace and the characters. The plot was a new wrinkle on the bad guy wipes out humanity story with greed and lust for power adding to the reality. Will definitely try another Maberry tale...

I liked this story because it was different from all the other zombie stories I have read. The main character isn't just a guts and glory guy. I found it very hard to put down and I read passed my bed time with this one.

I love audio books, movies, books and anything associated with zombies and/or viruses that cause humanity to fall apart. I enjoyed the audio book and it's associated plot but I got to the point where I couldn't stand the voices of the characters. I'm sure it wouldn't cost much more to hire a female to read the female parts. Having a male reader, trying to raise his voice in attempt to sound like a female, gets old fast and doesn't work well. Other than that, it was a good listen on a long driving trip.

Amazing! Smart. Visual. Atmospheric. Scientific zombie terrorism. Exceptionally well written: Your eyes just seem to dance through the entire novel. Perhaps a bit too hardened and heroic. Joe Ledger feels like both a hero and a villain.

Joe Ledger is pretty much awesome. I really enjoyed the personalities each of the characters brought with them to this book. You will love Mr. Church as well.

I like the kind of series where each story is fairly stand alone, which it seems is what's going on with these stories. If you are a glutton for Zombie stories, you'll enjoy this one, it has a bit of a twist on Zeds that I'd not seen before. But it's really more about Joe and team. You will love to hate the bad guys, too.

I really enjoyed this book. When people asked me to describe it to them the easiest thing to say was that it was essentially an action/zombie movie in book form. This being said, don't expect anything profound from this book either. It is simply some pretty easy to read entertainment.

Patient Zero is a number of different stories in one.
A zombie story, a terrorist story and a military/police story.
I enjoyed the first two but not so much the last.
It was fun and intricately plotted. The characters were well developed and many of them likeable. I'm just not much into guns, knife fights and explosions. It was enjoyable, just not really my thing. If you have an action jones and you like zombies, then this may be the book for you!

Wow. This book came highly, highly recommended, and it did not disappoint. I won't say that this is a new twist on the Zombie genre, because pretty much everyone who writes a zombie story seems to say that. I will, however, say that this seems to be one of the smartest, backing up the horror with some credible science that makes me just a wee bit nervous.

What a grand tale. Looking forward to more of the books in the series.

This was quite a disappointment. The premise was silly (prions combined with something else creates a zombie effect). Silly premises can be fine, but if you have one, don't spend pages trying to explain/defend a silly concept. The characters were quite one dimensional and did all the stereotypical things. It seemed like the book was assembled out of bits and pieces of other pop culture elements, but it wasn't even interesting enough for me to try to track them down. I really can't believe I finished it.

I found much of this story ridiculous. The author took improbability to a new level, and he has a serious misunderstanding of how government agencies generally, and law enforcement agencies in particular, work. Even such things as basic ranks and chains of command were way off. And although he tried to cover that with extraordinary presidential orders, there are just some things even the president can't order... like a media blackout on a mass shootout in the middle of a large city.

The bad guys in this book are more like early James Bond movie cutouts, with state-of-the art, lavish secret labs and hideaways in the most improbable places, where no one seemed to notice the tons of equipment and material it took to build them, not to mention the crews.

PATIENT ZERO is the first in a series, but I will not read another one.

Imagine a mix of Zombie novel and science-based fiction and secret operatives and action thriller. Jonathan Maberry is probably the only author living who can pull all of these together into one story and leave you gasping for more.

I had read Maberry's Ghost Road Blues Trilogy and thought that I knew pretty much what type of box his stories would all fit into. Boy, was I mistaken! Patient Zero steps out of that box on the first page and takes the reader into uncharted, but breathtaking, territory. The plot of Patient Zero has little in common with the plot in the Ghost Road Blues series, but Maberry has a way of hooking the reader instantly and not turning loose until the final page.

I heartily recommend this book to anyone who loves adventures, thrillers, spooky stories, or just about any kind of fiction.

A good book. Fairly original take on to the zombies as a terrorist weapon style. From what I now know this is one of a series and the only one that features zombies. I say that because it illustrates the style of the book as not just standard zombie fiction. This series is more in the vein of 24 or the Bourne series. It's more of an action/ adventure thriller that happens to include zombies in this installment. Well written by a good author.

If I have a complaint it would be that the main character, Ledger, is just too perfect. He's the ultimate badass, almost invincible. He is supposedly just a retired military Baltimore cop yet when he walks into a room of the baddest special forces assassins in the world he can take them all out without breaking a sweat. Personally i prefer more of an antihero as opposed to an impossible superman. There's never a moment of doubt that he'll thwart the bad guys and single handedly save the world. He's a likeable and believable character other than his inhuman skills.

I enjoyed the book but I probably won't be reading the rest of the series as I prefer the horror/post apocalyptic style. A great action/thriller/crime take on the impending zombie apocalypse.

I loved this story, and the characters, and the pacing and the descriptive writing and everything about it.I only recently discovered zombie novels. Some have been good, some bad and some truly spellbinding. I love the kind of story that keeps me engaged, where Im sitting on the edge of the bed, not wanting to turn out the light and stop reading. This was one of those.I dont think I said more than 5 words to my husband all day, I was so engrossed in this book. Ive never been much intersted in books with a lot of military jargon or action, this had just enough to keep me interested. The story shows a lot of imagination, and rips along at a fast pace. I love how the author brings together different subplots. It works really well. And of course the zombies, well theyre just plain creepy.
I paid a little more for this book on kindle than I usually do, but thought it well worth the price. It just goes to show you, you really do get what you pay for sometimes. A great read.Ive already purchased my next Joe Ledger book.

I enjoyed all of the shooting and action bits but on the other hand, it is like reading an R-rated action movie from 80's. Like a movie from that era, the dialog is clipped and minimal, the characters are two dimensional, and the action keeps going and going. And then there's big explosions at the end. It was a fun quick read, but 5 stars? I dont think so.

I love zombie films and novels, so I was prepared for suspense and survival but this book scared the daylights out of me. It is a lightening-fast read with amazing characters. The premise is a secret US organization that deals with terrorist threats, that must deal with a threat from a combination of an enemy; a greedy industrialist and a Middle Eastern group dead set on proving Western ideas are evil. It was terrifying but I could not put the book down.
