Michael tells a great many tales. Each is full of historical "I didn't know" thats. I read it last year from the library and recently decided this was a book I had to add to my collection. I will share this with my family and friends.

Just finished “The American Miracle, Divine Providence in the Rise of the Republic”, by Michael Medved. This is a great overview of some miraculous turns of events from the Revolutionary War era through the Civil War and the assassination of President Lincoln. I was fascinated to learn so much about the Battle of New Orleans, which was the end of the War of 1812 and how General Andrew Jackson heroically put together a desperate band of U S military, local volunteers, indians and even some local pirates. This band of so called, “Dirty Shirts”, was outnumbered by the well organized British forces 5 to 1, and yet Jackson routed them. His mission was to defend that vital American port, keeping the British from taking it over, and how that and a slave revolt in Haiti helped convince Napoleon to sell us the Louisiana Purchase at a garage sale price. Shortly following that, there was the battle at the Alamo and the related Battle of San Jacinto and how the political unrest in Mexico led to the acquisition of the Texas Territory.

I recommend this to anyone interested in the incredible accomplishments of average Americans who achieved nearly impossible victories in their personal lives, political offerings, and war time solutions. The Founding Fathers relied heavily on Providence to guide decision making, and the results were tremendous successes.

Excellent book with lots of details I'd never heard before. It reinforced my belief that I/we are lucky to be born in the US. i share Michael's belief that against all odds, we succeeded as no one has before. I've bought several copies and shared with friends.

I have just finished reading "The American Miracle" by Michael Medved...should be a must read for all of us.....we come away with enormous gratitude and a sense of the great responsibility that comes with so many blessings. Many movies and plays could be written from all the stories! Medved was just on The Book Channel discussing this book. Look it up on your computer!
'American exceptionalism' does not mean 'American perfectionism' .....we are a nation in progress.....but when you read this wonderful page turner, you know that we are a unique, amazing and miraculous country.
