and Priorities of a Winning Life - The Principles
and Priorities of a Winning Life - The Principles

Review:“Quiet Strength” is a wonderfully written book by Tony Dungy who is the first African American coach to win a super bowl. Dungy speaks of what it took for him to overcome adversity to battle through and accomplish the unthinkable.
Dungy does an unbelievable job of expressing his feelings and emotions describing his upbringing and the amount of adversity he had to face. The thing I love most about this book is how Dungy was calm throughout the challenges that he faced for right and wrong. I f... Read more

The Bondage of the Will
The Bondage of the Will

Review:WARNING - Do not buy Sovereign Grace Publishers Henry Cole translation of Bondage of the Will.

After slogging through 95 pages of its barely understandable jargon, I asked my dad, Pastor Gerry Mohr (LCMS) if Luther's reputation for intellect was, perhaps, a bit unearned. He replied, "Cole whipped out his translation effort in three months or less. Luther's original is a direct reply to a work by Erasmus directly aimed against what Luther was teaching. Cole does not take the time to und... Read more

Confession of a Buddhist Atheist
Confession of a Buddhist Atheist

Review:I was very disappointed with this book because it is primarily a treatise on the life of the Buddha, almost in mind-numbing detail, rather than a detailed treatment of why the author has gotten to the particular stage that he has in his spiritual development. The title of the book is "Confession of a Buddhist Atheist" but very little is devoted to that topic. Most of the book discusses facts surrounding the buddha's life, much of which I found to be superfluous and quite frankly boring. But t... Read more

The Thinking Person's Answer to Christian Fundamentalism
The Thinking Person's Answer to Christian Fundamentalism

Review:I have read almost every major book on this subject, Dawkins, Harris, Barker etc. and thought I would be reading redundant information. I was pleasantly suprised at the content as well as the way David Mills writes. I wish this book could replace every bible ever printed and it should be mandatory reading for anyone befor taking a leap of FAITH. Execellent book Mr. Mills. I wish you where my neighbor so we could chat and you could help me write a best seller. Good on you my friend,PEACE. Read more

The Authoritative History of the War for the Holy Land
The Authoritative History of the War for the Holy Land

Review:Long but good review of the crusade era that seems to be used by some to make legitimate the anger of some Muslum groups toward Western civilization of today. It also explains how the concept of jihad developed and was revived to become a major movement by radical Muslums today. Read more

The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire (Penguin Classics)
The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire (Penguin Classics)

Review:I have only read about 25% of this book since it is a very large one (over 1000 pages), but I can say The Decline & Fall of the Roman Empire by Edward Gibbon is one of the best history books I have ever read.
Thought English is not my native language, the book is, with a few exceptions, very easy to read. It is loaded with a lot of history since it covers over 1000 years, but this fact does not give you a headache if you are not into learning everything in it.
The book covers the histo... Read more

The Devil's Notebook
The Devil's Notebook

Review:This book is a well-written collection of Mr. LaVey's essays. For the most part this book is not required to understand The Church of Satan. The book does highlight Mr. LaVey's unique philosophy and various related topics. The range of topics is too broad to summarize, so I'll list several highlights:
"Ravings From Tartarus": Why ritual spells do not work, and how to accomplish your goals.
"The Importance of Keeping a Secret": Types of secrets, and methods to ensure secrecy.
