“Quiet Strength” is a wonderfully written book by Tony Dungy who is the first African American coach to win a super bowl. Dungy speaks of what it took for him to overcome adversity to battle through and accomplish the unthinkable.
Dungy does an unbelievable job of expressing his feelings and emotions describing his upbringing and the amount of adversity he had to face. The thing I love most about this book is how Dungy was calm throughout the challenges that he faced for right and wrong. I found this super inspirational as how someone who is going through a terrible time can remain so strong. It is a very inspirational book that goes through the details of Dungy’s life in order and gives amazing advice.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in sports or anyone who enjoys learning about racial issues in our country. Personally I enjoyed this book because I am an athlete and I liked to learn about the different adversity Dungy faced as a coach and as a player and what I can learn from that. People can learn a lot from this book on how to attack adversity and this is a characteristic that more people need to learn nowadays.

When most people hear the name Anthony Kevin Dungy they would not know the man, but refer to him as Tony, the name he goes by, then a legacy is thought of. People usually refer to Tony Dungy in the context of football. He was the head football coach of the 2007 Super Bowl winning Indianapolis Colts as well a part of the 1978 Super Bowl champion Pittsburg Steelers. Football has always been a huge part of Tony’s life, but what many people do not know about were his challenges, trials, and triumphs that were part of the journey. In his book, Quiet Strength, Tony covers these aspects as well as his growth in his faith which helped develop him into the man he is today.
This book takes us in chronological order of Tony’s life, starting off with his childhood. This is where we first learn of his faith as his two parents, devoted Christians, taught Tony the importance of family. This ideal sense of family is what would set the tone for a lot of Tony’s actions, as he thought of his teams that he was a part of as though they were his family. This journey starts off when he was in high school which leads into college, playing in the NFL, and then to finally coaching in the professionals.
This is a great book for people who have some knowledge of football. I consider myself quite a fan of football and there were times where even I was a little lost, not because it was confusing, but because of all the people and connections that Tony made along his journey. All in all, this book can be for all people because it shows how one’s faith will lead them down the right path.

I bought Quiet Strength because I'm an Indiana resident and a big Colts fan. What I got from the book was much more than I expected. Tony Dungy is a remarkable man, and the fact that he led the Colts to a Super Bowl win isn't even the most admirable thing about him...not even close.

Coach Dungy is a man of great character. I was aware of his Christian faith, but not of the degree of his integrity. From reading the book, it's clear how he weighs important issues and prays to God about them before making a decision. And when he feels like he didn't do the right thing, like when he agreed to let Mike Shula resign after he'd been asked to fire him, he is very humble and upfront about his regrets.

It was also very touching to hear him talk about the suicide of his son, Jamie, and how that affected he and his wife Lauren. I can only imagine what that must have been like. Somehow, even in that personal tragedy, he draws on the strength of his faith in God.

And if you're looking for intel on football, there's plenty of that in the book, too. Of course, my main interest was the Colts...now I know why Peyton Manning does those hand signals...but it was also interesting hearing about Tony Dungy's time at Tampa Bay as a head coach, and his earlier experiences in coaching and as a player.

This is a great book, which I would highly recommend to anyone, whether you're a football fan or not!

I thoroughly enjoyed Tony Dungy's memoir. He gives some practical lessons on top of his life story and these really speak to the hearts of his readers. He is a great example for the next generation of football coaches, players, and fans.

Tony Dungy’s faith has a way of biting him in the butt most of the time, but if you would notice throughout the book he always recovers from the unplanned incidents. Dungy was thanking God for all the good that happened in his life. His faith journey throughout the book let him to a generous amount of ups that included more than a generous amount of downs. Tony Dungys faith journey carried him throughout his life; keeping him honest and well rounded always trying to assess his situations to find out what was best for the people surrounding him.
The beginning of the book, starts with Dungy being layed off, this set up the rest of the book for the audience to show how he never stopped fighting. This moment when after Dungy got layed off and began packing his boxes in the rain, was quite symbolic. The rain symbolized for the reader how bad of a time it was for Dungy, however Dungy did not let this one bad scenario affect him as well as his relationship with God, in fact this scenario led for their relationship actually grew stronger. Dungy ended up with the Cleveland browns. considered the worst team at the time, however it was like Dungy was coaching the very best football team there was. Since Dungy was not as much as a yeller he was introduced to the Browns as the quite coach, however the Browns would be up for quite a surprise when they realized Dungy’s quite strength. He help the team grow to a great record compared to the previous season. Dungy did this by incorborating the mindset that they would never be out worked, that is exactly what happened. Dungy actually had them Wake up significantly before there games, thinking if they could work hard while being sleep less they would try even hard when they got enough sleep.
I thought this book was a great read, as well as learning a few things along the way throughout Tony Dungy’s faith walk. Throughout the book Dungy always believed and trusted in God, it was like he had an iron grip holding on to Gods hand. He fully trusted in God to walk down the path God wanted him too. This allowed Dungy to have such a close relationship his God and be as successful as he was.

The book Quiet Strength by Tony Dungy is an excellent autobiography that not only shows the life and experiences of a professional coach, but also from the perspective of a husband and father. This novel is for readers of all ages and genders. Dungy went through the highs and lows of life and shared how he was able to learn and grow from these moments. He went from getting fired to winning the Super Bowl, and from having a child to losing a son. The wisdom and humility that Dungy has gained throughout his life is astounding He has an incredible faith and relationship with God that is reflected throughout the entire novel. The way Dungy set himself up for the next chapter created a suspenseful feeling that kept the reader engaged and wanting to read more. Though some of the chapters would start to feel repetitive when Dungy would go into detail about game scores, in the end it all came together and he leaves you feeling satisfied with the results. Overall, Dungy is a passionate man that has put together a great life story with many excellent lessons learned. I recommend reading this book and anything else written by Tony Dungy.

Quiet Strength is probably one of my favorite books that I have read recently. Written by Tony Dungy in discusses how Dungy became head coach of the Colts and brought them to the Super Bowl. More importantly though it makes clear how Tony Dungy’s faith influenced him every step of his path. Even if you had never heard of Tony Dungy before, Dungy draws the readers into his story and makes even small details interesting. I found it hard to stop reading even though I had never heard of this super bowl-winning coach before.
The book follows Tony Dungy’s life, from his college years, to his playing in the NFL, to his becoming head coach of the Buccaneers, to his becoming head coach of the Colts until eventually winning the Super Bowl with them against the Bears. Dungy tells of mountains and valleys on the road to the super bowl, from actual win to the suicide of his son. Throughout the book, Dungy discusses how his faith influenced his life, interactions, and decisions.
I enjoyed this book because of how Dungy draws the reader into his story. I came to this book not particularly interested in the story, but the author made me interested.
Most people would greatly enjoy this book, in my opinion, especially if they have any knowledge or interest in NFL football. Even someone who was not interested in football, however, would still be encouraged by the book and get something out of it.

I just finished reading this book about a week or so after the Indianapolis Colts visited Charlotte NC to play and decimate the Carolina Panthers (Kind of like what everyone's been doing to the Panthers this year! Oh well, there's always next year).

"Quiet Strength" is the story of Tony Dungy, the first African-American NFL coach to win the Super Bowl. However, Dungy instead focuses the book on his life's purpose - to glorify God. Because his stated purpose, I found the book to be a much better read of a humble and godly man as opposed to some biographies I have read of self-promoters.

The book covers many areas of Dungy's life:

1. Early childhood in Jackson MI.
2. College playing days at the University of Minnesota.
3. Great relationship with his father and mother.
4. Relationship with his wife and children.
5. Suicide of one of his children.
6. Various coaching jobs: Colts, Bucs, Chiefs, etc.
7. What's really important to him - glorifying God.

Dungy shares his life and struggles in a humble and honest way that is very endearing to readers (hence, the very large number of 5-star ratings so far for this book). The book's narrative is smooth and free-flowing.

Read, enjoy, and be encouraged. Highly recommended!

I picked up this book because I admire Tony Dungy and all that he has accomplished. I've finished it a better person, leader, husband, father, and grandfather. I had no idea of the depth of this man, the difficulty of his experiences, and the inner strength he has developed over the course of his life. Now that I know, I have a new standard to which I can aspire, both inwardly through my faith, and outwardly through what I do in the world and how I do it.

Reading this book has changed me, and more importantly, it has made me want to keep changing, becoming more of the man I was born to be. I'm grateful to Tony for having the courage and the vulnerability to put so much of himself into this book and to talk about his life in such a personal way. Without question, Tony will pay a price for this openness as every amateur critic in the world takes a shot at some aspect of his book, either seeing only the surface of what Tony says, or being frightened by the example of this brave man's life as compared to their own.

As you will see in this book, Tony has seen it all, survived it all, and he has done it with the faith, the courage, the compassion, the humility, and the fierce determination that exemplify his quiet strength. Surely, this is the formula for greatness.

This is a remarkable book. Buy it today, let the lessons it teaches go deep in you, and then share it with someone else. You won't regret it.

When one deals with God's sovereignty, one thinks of the Calvinism/Arminianism debate. However, this biography (or memoirs) of Tony Dungy deals a lot with God's sovereignty in a way that a non-Calvinist would see God's sovereignty at work.

This book is written about a person who is a football coach, so you have a story of his involvement with football as in other areas of his life. If you are not an avid football fan, you may find the football aspects a little less interesting, but the point is the principles of how he does something the way he does, and this can cross that barrier.

I have recently read other books by people involved in sports, all of which were Christians (Reggie White, Cynthia Cooper, and Orel Hershieser). These four books were all unique. This one is more of a biogrphy than White's and Hershiser's. Also, Cooper's and Hershisser's are published by a secular company, so Dungy's book is stronger on his faith as a result. (Actually, all of them are good on the faith issue.)

This is a great book to read with your children, especially if they are interested in sports at all.

This book has been available for a few years and I know many people have read this book. I became intrigued by Tony Dungy when I started reading his latest book: Uncommon Life: Daily Challenge. I have been changed by this book and now am going back and reading his other books. Quiet Strength takes an inside look at Tony and how he ended up coaching his way to the Colts and Super Bowl victory. This memoir provides a glimpse into a man who sticks to his morals and faith to make the right decisions even when they don't seem right at the time. I bookmarked at least 30 pages from this book to use as coaching reminders, life reminders, quotes, and just ideas to live by. I found this to be a great story and inspirational. It reminded me to stay true to myself and not to get persuaded by others who think they know best. I highly recommend along with the hundreds of reviewers on the store.

"No excuses, no explanations." Those were the words of Tony Dungy even while going through some of the toughest moments of his life, as explained in Quiet Strength, a bibliography by Tony Dungy. Even while he went through everything from tough playoff losses to family deaths, Tony preached those words and the words of God to his players, staff, and any person that would listen.

Have you ever gone through a tough personal loss? Well if you have, or are looking for religious guidance, or just an excellent read, this is the right book for you. It talks about how Tony Dungy used the guidance of God to get through not only football issues, but personal deaths of his mother, father, and even son. It is a magnificent book and has really changed how I look at life. With all the treacherous things Tony has gone through, it really makes me feel grateful for my wonderful life. I strongly recommend this book to readers of any age 10 or above. I think reading about Tony Dungy and his faith can change your life like it changed mine.

“Quiet Strength: The Principles, Practices, and Priorities of a Winning Life” by Tony Dungy is a book of exemplary quality. The book captures the struggles of an African-American male from the 1960s to the 2000s. While many of Dungy’s struggles are related to actions he and others take on the football field, the events that transpire off the field are what really rope the reader into the story. This personal account gives insight into the life of a man plagued not only by racism and poverty, but spiritual and internal conflicts as well.
The underlying theme of God and how he relies heavily on his faith is evident throughout the story. Dungy is taught about God and faith early on in his life and continues to practice and stick with it even through massive hardships. My favorite quote, which summarizes this point of view, was that “We often can't see what God is doing in our lives, but God sees the whole picture and His plan for us clearly.”
In terms of who would enjoy this book, I think that football fans would greatly enjoy it because it offers insight into the reality of the NFL and the struggles of an athlete. However, I think the group it would have the greatest impact on would be Christians. Whether you are a devout Christian or a brand new, “scraping the surface” Christian, I think that Quiet Strength offers a view into how difficult Christianity is to follow but how important and necessary it is to stay faithful and trust in God. Overall, I enjoyed the book, and would read it again. I have a new found respect for Tony Dungy and would love to hear him speak about his life in person.

Although it's easy to gloss over Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy's QUIET STRENGTH memoir as just another sports-filled tell-all, readers who spend more than a few pages with the book will be delighted that it is much more. Not just a football book --- and more than an autobiography --- Dungy's basic faith-based principles will serve anyone from a homemaker to a businessperson well.

Football lovers, don't get me wrong; there are plenty of pigskin particulars to satisfy hardcore fans and enough play-by-play details to discuss over morning coffee. Dungy, the first African-American head coach to win a Super Bowl, details the games he has won and lost, trades, hirings and firings (himself and his players), locker room pep talks, and the ins and outs of the football world.

Biography buffs will appreciate the (mostly) birth to Super Bowl chronological order that lends context to the rest of the narrative and helps readers understand where Dungy is coming from. It's not an earthshaking backstory, but it is told well. Dungy grew up in Jackson, Michigan, just an hour outside of Detroit, to highly-educated parents (Dungy has a bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota). He recounts how his hot temper got him in trouble in high school sports (Dungy was quick to take offense at any implications of racial prejudice) and how his parents helped him develop his character. There is the obligatory recounting of menial jobs worked throughout college (a meat-packing plant shift helped him value his college education and football scholarship) and an overview of his college and professional career. He later details his sweet romance with future wife Lauren Harris, and their family life and adoption of several children. This biographical information is nicely balanced; there is just the right amount of detail without becoming banal.

What may surprise you is the amount of humor woven throughout. Dungy is genuinely funny, which comes across naturally in his narrative. This is not to say that the book is lightweight. Dungy includes some of the disappointing moments in his career and the tragedy of his son's suicide before Christmas 2005.

The core of Dungy's book --- his principles for football and for living --- isn't anything new, but it is solid and bears repeating. No excuses, no explanations. Respond to adversity; don't react. Be on time. Take ownership. And perhaps, most importantly: Do what you're supposed to do whenever you're supposed to do it. Not almost. All the way. Not most of the time. All of the time. Integrated throughout are lessons Dungy has learned from other coaches, mentors and teachers along the way who have shaped how he acts both on and off the field.

As he unpacks his personal story, Dungy peppers his narrative with philosophical questions that provoke the reader into thinking about his or her life more deeply. "What will people remember us for? Are other people's lives better because we lived? Did we make a difference? Did we use to the fullest the gifts and abilities God gave us? Did we give our best effort, and did we do it for the right reasons?" Good questions for reflection.

What also comes through is this: Dungy is a very private person. Although he easily shares about his faith --- and is careful to include talk about some of his feelings --- there is a point where the emotion stops. He has obviously drawn some tight boundaries about how much of his feelings he is willing to share. Some readers will respect this, while others may wish for a little more here.

Although Dungy is quick to acknowledge how important football --- and winning the Super Bowl --- is in his life, he also hammers home the point that "God's definition of success is really one of significance --- the significant difference our lives can make in the lives of others. This significance doesn't show up in win-loss records, long resumes, or the trophies gathering dust on our mantels. It's found in the hearts and lives of those we've come across who are in some way better because of the way we lived."

Words worth pondering, both on and off the field.

Tony Dungy's autobiography, "Quiet Strength" is a terrific book that contains a message that should appeal to any reader (not just football fans). Dungy speaks of leadership without intimidation, confidence through religious conviction and success through perseverance. The book has a religious tone, but Dungy gets his point across without being preachy. He draws from a stable upbringing by his parents and shares his thoughts about life, football, parenting, dealing with adversity, and being a man.

There's a lot of football references so football fans and those who have followed Dungy's playing and coaching career will certainly enjoy "Quiet Strength". The book should play well in Pittsburgh, Tampa, and Indy because so much of the book deals with Dungy's career as an NFL football coach.

The book is a testament about doing things "right" and treating people with respect in order to gain the same in return. And...as evidenced by the 2007 Super Bowl, nice guys CAN finish first!

This book was a very cool and inspiring perspective that brought an eye opening experience of what strength and faith mean. Tony Dungy brings to words his experience of football and how it shaped him into the man he is today. He connects the life lessons that he learned in football and explains how they helped him in real life. It was an inspiration to read what Tony endured and the strength he bestowed coming out of it. He shows his inner strength and his faith by his actions throughout the book especially in the hardest of times. The suicide of his son was an experience that no parent or person should have to endure but Tony demonstrates incredible strength and perseverance. I would recommend this book to my parents and also both of my brothers. I think the most important recommendation I would give is to my football coach because it is something I think he would respect and enjoy. I really enjoyed the book and it was a very interesting perspective on a story that I had never heard. I believe the main idea of the book was to show people that leadership and faith do not have to be a loud outward projection like “Tim Tebow”. There is nothing wrong with Tebow’s faith or projection of it but there is another side that not many other people see that Tony Dungy represents. It was a good book and I am glad that I read it!

I bought this book because I had heard so many good things about Tony Dungy, and was intrigued as to why he has become one of the most revered coaches of this era. Quiet Strength unquestionably answers those questions and more.

Dungy starts the book off by saying that this is not a book about football. If you're talking about football in the sense of understanding the "x's and o's," he is absolutely right. However, Tony's life has been immersed in football, so it would be hard for him to right an autobiography without it being prediminantly (about 95%) about football. The book chronicles his career as a a college football player, his brief stint as an NFL player. The bulk of the book discusses his coaching career--especially his years as a Tampa Bay coach and the events that led up to his sense of betrayal by the Glazers. He also talks briefly about the many playoff disappointments and the thrill of ultimately winning the Superbowl. Even in describing the darker periods in his life, Tony is honest, but shows his class as he refuses to drag anyone's name through the mud. Of the Glazers, he says he was disappointed in the decision they made to fire him--especially after having given their word that his job was safe, but he totally respects their right to manage their team the way they saw fit and is thankful to them for giving him the opportunity to be a head coach when no one else would.

The bonus is that in describing his career, you get a chance to know the man, because his faith and his values underpin everything he has done as a coach and player. You cannot help but admire his sense of integrity and commitment to families--not just his own, but the families of his players and assistant coaches, as well as families at large. He leads by example, but then expects the same from those he leads as well. His strong Christian faith is a predominant thread throughout the book. His life is a testimony to what he believes.

No book about Coach Dungy would be complete without a discussion of the tragedy that occurred in 2005 when his son committed suicide. He doesn't reveal much about what may have led to the suicide, but he does speak quite extensively about his grief. He warns us early in the book that he is a fairly private person, therefore he doesn't give very many details about any of his immediate family members. We probably learn more about his mother and father than we do about his wife, and especially his kids.

If you're looking for a "tell all" book, this probably isn't the book for you. But if you're looking for a book that will inspire you to reach withoun (and outside) yourself to find your purpose in life, this book is an excellent choice.

I was very pleased after reading Tony Dungy’s book Quiet Strength. The book incorporates many strong life lessons, such as overcoming adversity in one’s life, creating a very strong backbone to the entire story. While the story does focus a lot around Dungy’s football career and coaching career, it does not a take a football enthusiast or expert to understand the story. The book includes much background about Dungy’s personal life outside of football. As you read through the novel you cannot help but grow attached to his life. I loved this book because you can either read it alone by yourself, or read as a group of people or a family. Another significant element to his story is his commitment to his faith. He never loses sight of God through his trials, something that is an inspiration to us all. Many lessons can be taken away from his story, and most certainly be applied while you read through the book. As a whole the book is a very easy read. The chapters a short and precise, no extreme vocabulary is used, and the book is simply very personal. If there is any downside to this book it would be that maybe it is too simple of a reading. Some advanced readers may find the lack of challenge a downside to the book, but I would say that the simplicity of the book did not take away from the meaning whatsoever. Overall I really enjoyed this book. It’s a great for anyone kind of person of any age. I definitely recommend this book.

This was a birthday gift that I was excited to receive, and a book that my wife actually finished before me. Although Megan and I have some different reading tastes, we both found this book very enjoyable. Dungy's #1 New York Times bestseller comes off his 2007 Super Bowl victory and reveals the secrets to his success. You don't have to be a fan of the Indianapolis Colts or even American football to get into this book. Dungy gets authentic by sharing personal and professional difficulties and how he was able to overcome them. Although you can't tell by the cover, once you start reading this book, you find out it has a deep and powerful message. Dungy's message is God's message. Our purpose in life is simply to glorify God and help people see the path to eternal life through Christ. It is so cool that Coach Dungy is using the platform God has given him in a way that points us in the right direction.

"Quiet Strength", an inspiring and captivating story by Tony Dungy, an African American football coach. Dungy was able to express his love for football, for his wife, and for his children, through these life-changing, and exciting events. Dungy expressed his great passion to serve the Lord after hearing from God that he would be moving to other areas in his career. Though Dungy was unsure about the new transitions, he knew that God would be with him all the way. Dungy spoke highly that God will remain faithful throughout all stages of life. Though sometimes the requests that Dungy received from God seemed impossible to achieve, Dungy continued to trust God to provide strength, wisdom, and success through all of his transitions with his family. I was moved by the words spoken from Dungy about God's grace that had been given to him. Dungy worked hard to be a good coach, husband, father, and leader for each individual in his life. Dungy stayed grounded in his faith with God as God continued to show Dungy His great and constant faithfulness. This book was extremely encouraging to hear a story about God showing His mighty power, strength, and love that was distributed through His never failing faithfulness.

The book, Quiet Strength, is an autobiography written by Tony Dungy. It tells a great story that discusses the triumphs and trials of his career as a Super Bowl winning head coach. Dungy is most known for being a NFL head coach for the Indianapolis Colts, but he also is a husband, father, and a Christian. Throughout the book, he talks about what it was like for him growing up, and how experiences over the course of his career helped shape him into being the man that he is today.
I enjoyed reading this novel as Dungy is very personal about his life and how these events have made him into a better person. As a Christian, I thought that it was amazing to hear that no matter what happened to him or his family, whether it was a change at work or in his life, he would stay faithful to Christ and trust in His plan. Dungy also includes a lot of details which helps him connect with his readers even if they had no idea who he was before this autobiography. This is a great book and one that I would recommend to anyone who is interested in sports, or enjoys reading Christian novels.

In Jim Collin's book Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap... and Others Don't, he identifies Level 5 leaders as one element in organizations that have made the leap from good to great. In the chapter on Level 5 leaders, Collin's describes that the character values of Level 5 leaders were often shaped by the trials they faced in life. Tony Dungy's story provides an excellent example of the Level 5 leader and how his journey in life shaped his beliefs i.e. his faith and character values.

Tony Dungy personifies the character values of a servant leader: humility, excellence, open-mindedness, work ethic, kindness, gentleness, love of people, self-control, love of learning, etc. His story will encourage and inspire others to follow his example. It helped me understand how my own struggles during my wife's battles with two forms of cancer shaped my faith and character values. When we confront forces that are out of our control and threaten our lives or the lives of those we love, it has a profound clarifying affect on what we value in life and on the values we shed because we come to see them as shallow and superfluous.

If you have someone in your life who holds a position of leadership and loves football, you could not find a better gift for him than Tony Dungy's Quiet Strength. In addition to reading this book, let me also recommend another one of my favorites about a great leader My Personal Best : Life Lessons from an All-American Journey. This is quite possibly one of THE best books I've read in some time. It is wonderfully written and so inspiring. I have been a fan of Coach Dungy's since his first days at Tampa and have always admired how he's lived his life. Although I am a fan of football, this book can be enjoyed by anyone, football fan or not. Tony Dungy is a wonderful example of how every Christian should live their life. Through everything, the good and bad, he has sought God and chooses to put Him first in everything he does. What a perfect example of Matthew 6:33 being fulfilled in his life. This book has caused me to reflect on my own walk of faith and inspired me to trust God with EVERY area of my life. Thank you Tony for sharing your memoirs, your life is a wonderful example to us all and I have been truly blessed through your book.

I loved this book about a godly man who took his faith seriously. Having watched Tony Dungycoach I felt like he was a class act not throwing temper tandrums or losing control. Th After our son died from suicide someone from our church bought me the book. Dungy also had a son that committed suicide his freshman year in college. I received great comfort in the fact that such a godly man also had his share of tragedy. I read the chapter on his son and could well relate to his feelings. The book is more than just a football book--it is a book about a man who used the game of football as a vehicle to advance the kingdom of God. He loved football but he knew what his ultimate purpose in life went beyond football. A great read about a godly role model.

Quiet Strength by Tony Dungy is a great read for everyone. If you are not a huge of football however, some parts might become dull because of all of the names of players and coaches that are thrown around. There is still plenty to be taken from even if you are not familiar with football though. Tony Dungy’s incredible story from player to coach in a matter of years is remarkable. He shares his struggles and triumphs and what is important through all ups and downs. He never loses sight on the fact that God is in control no matter what happens. Dungy was always open about his mistakes and when victories would come, he would also give God the glory. While some situations may be hard to relate to your own life, Dungy’s consistent praise to God no matter what happens, is definitely a model that can be followed be readers in their own lives. Readers can also take away an amazing example of putting faith in God first, family second, and work third. It is great to see someone clearly lay out their priorities like this. Leaders can find this book very inspiring and take some of Dungy’s key principles and apply them to their own coaching or teaching. In the end, Quiet Strength may look like a football story, but it is actually more of an incredible faith story.

Tony Dungy’s Quiet Strength is a very well written and influential book that has many lessons that one can apply to their own personal life. His story is a very impactful one, as he puts himself in a vulnerable state telling us of his very private and personal life experiences. He ties all of his life experiences into a learning lesson, usually one concentrated on building a relationship with God, family, coworkers, or all of the above. Dungy goes through many of his own experiences as well as describing how they help him build perseverance in life as well as building a relationship with God. Many of these experiences are common in our everyday life so the reader will find themselves relating to what the author has gone through. Dungy tells us of his struggles, and how he has made it past them while maintaining a strong relationship with God as well as his family. He promotes positive action in family life, work life, as well as in a relationship with God, giving life examples of how to conquer struggles in our world, such as juggling a busy job, family, and relationship with God at the same time. This book has many life lessons and life experiences that can be applied to personal lives and I would definitely recommend it to any reader.

I have been a fan of Tony Dungy's. It was with deep affection and a belief in his approach to football and to true leadership in sports that I watched him walk into the lives of football fans in my new hometown, Tampa Bay. Few of us realized at the time how lucky we were; but it became quickly evident...not only with his success on the football field, for a franchise that had been starved for decades, but also with his contributions to the community, the example he set for football players, fans and everyone in the area.

What the Glazers did to Tony Dungy is shameful, but he rose above it in this book and in winning Superbowl XLI. This is a great read, far above the cut of a normal "sports book", and like the community of great coaches around the NFL that Tony has fostered, it will endure far beyond this season of books. "The Principles, Practices, and Priorities of a Winning Life" is a fabulous subtitle for the autobiography and inspirational tale of the kind of a man that all of us should want to emulate.

Tony deserves every success he achieves for setting an example that shines.

Quiet Strength: The Principles, Practices and Priorities of a Winning Life is a book about never giving up, a book about following dreams. It’s a book about determination. It is a very strongly, well written book however after a while it became more of a book full of repetition. It became of series of repeated events. Often times I found myself skimming through the pages of football events just to look for valuable quotes and stories that I could take something from. Throughout the book things came to be more and more predictable, however, in the experience of reading Quiet Strength I was able to gain valuable knowledge. Tony Dungy is a man of strength who has been through a whirlwind of challenging, unpredictable and unexpected life events that are told throughout the book. I would recommend this book to fathers with kids of all ages. I think the lessons Tony Dungy has to share and the lessons he has learned throughout his book would be of more value to any father than to a mother, teenage girl etc. With that being said I would not discourage anyone from reading this book, as it was of great worth and valuable life lessons that everyone can learn something from.

Most boys like football, even if they don't, they will enjoy this fascinating story. It is a book every teen should read. Tony is a man of character. He doesn't pretend to be perfect, but sets an example for impressionable young minds on how they should act. Obviously, that was not his intent, but as a mom of several teen sons, it is rare to find a book that I can heartily endorse and hand on to my sons. His quiet humility is winning. In a world of "me, me, me, I am the center of the universe, I am great," this is refreshing to see. If you are looking for glamor or strategies, you won't find it here. Just a wonderful, heartfelt story to keep the reader interested until the last page. We need more real men like Tony. By reading this book, maybe more young men will follow his example.

Tony Dungy scores a touchdown with this powerfully inspirational autobiography Quiet Strength. Quiet Strength tells the story of 2007 Super Bowl winning coach Tony Dungy of the Indianapolis Colts. In his book, Dungy discusses early life growing up as an athlete in Michigan all the way to his journey of winning a super bowl as a head coach. Dungy writes about all of this while implementing his Christian life into the story.
Dungy uses a very personal and relative writing style. His smooth transitions into each segment of his life are easy to comprehend. Plus, the imagery Dungy uses creates vivid images into the reader’s mind, making the text even more comprehensible.
Dungy does an excellent job in writing Quiet Strength by avoiding the stereotype of most sports writers. Dungy avoids talking strictly about sports, including football and basketball. Dungy installs multiple points of his life that he finds most important. For example, Dungy writes extensively on the story of how he met his wife and how Christianity has played a large role in shaping who he is a person and a coach.
Many lessons can be taken away from Dungy’s Quiet Strength. Dungy displays great leadership and the ability to adapt to new situations both on and off the field. Also, Dungy is a good role model for how one can be a Christian in a public setting. It often seems hard for people to be open about religion when not in a religious setting. Dungy is somebody many can learn from. Dungy is a true inspiration.
Quiet Strength is a book that would be most suited for any reader. Yes, the book deals a lot about football but the themes explored in the book go way past the gridiron. Dungy’s story can be relative to anybody and is worth reading, no matter if you are a girl or boy.

“Quiet Strength: The Principles, Practices, and Priorities of a Winning Life” is a fantastic book written by Tony Dungy. This book talks about Tony’s life from elementary school all the way up to current day. Through out the book he is telling in-depth stories with very deep meaning behind them. Tony tells the reader about his personal testimony and how he has had success in his life. He shares great detail about how he was able to include God into his life and how by doing that, he was able to reach great success. I would highly recommend this book to someone who is seeking some encouragement. This encouragement can be of any kind, whether it be in your career or if it is in your faith; Dungy has stories that help anyone in just about any situation or stage of life. I was assigned to read this book for a class in college, but was presently surprised at how applicable it was to my life.

Tony Dungy’s book Quite Strength is a great read about how he went from growing up as a boy living in Michigan to the path that led him to becoming the first African American coach to win a super bowl. The book is filled with lessons Dungy learned throughout his life and later could apply to hard situations. One example is how Dungy through all his success does not let it shape how he lives but he stays true to himself. The many lessons that Dungy uses can also be taken and applied to the reader’s life. Although Tony Dungy was an NFL coach and talks about his journey from high school sports to college sports and eventually him playing in the NFL the book is not limited to the sport loving audience. Dungy also incorporated his faith throughout the book and how being a Christian has affected his life. This like the sports should not deter any readers from this book; Dungy makes the book very applicable to all audiences. The autobiography is filled with important lessons and examples of how to overcome hardships along with how to be a leader. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a good read and is willing to learn from what Dungy has to say.

I'm a football fan but more of the college game than the professional game. Since Tony Dungy's prominence has been built within the NFL, I knew very little about him. I knew that he won a Super Bowl with the Indianapolis Colts a few years ago. I knew that he is a public (but not obnoxious) Christian. And I knew that he is very well-respected in the football world and also within the Christian world. This book, his first, filled in many of the gaps and helped me to understand Tony Dungy.

I'll begin by stating that I don't think that "Quiet Strength" is a great book. But it is very clear to me that Tony Dungy is a truly great man. And this impression comes from this book, not because he boasted and bragged about his many triumphs, but because his genuine humility oozes out of every chapter. He was honest about his personal struggles and disappointments, like the death of his son or the hurtful irony that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the Super Bowl the year after he was fired. He was open about his mistakes, like some personnel decisions that he made which didn't work well and some off-hand controversial comments that he made which created a public stir. But while maintaining transparency, his critiques were generally pointed inward, whereas he was extremely gracious to the countless coaches and players who popped up in the stories of his life. Unlike most sports autobiographies, this one was not utilized as an opportunity to lambast those who hurt him. In fact, one gets the sense that Tony Dungy managed to navigate several decades in the NFL without making any genuine enemies. What a testament to his impeccable character and winsome personality!

And providing the backdrop and reason for his integrity and warmth, Dungy was clear to explain throughout the book that his deep Christian faith informs every aspect of his life, professionally and personally. And he is unapologetic about his faith commitments, without being overbearing or obnoxious. The tone and spirit with which he speaks about his relationship with Jesus reflects Dungy's gracious spirit.

Having appreciated Dungy's humility and spiritual authenticity, the final primary asset of "Quiet Strength" is the smattering of leadership nuggets throughout his many stories. Through the example of other coaches like Chuck Noll and informed by his Christian worldview, Dungy has developed a particular philosophy to coaching and leadership that he explained at some length throughout the book. This philosophy boiled down to a handful of pithy statements and ideas, such as "Do what we do, without explanation or excuse," that were repeated frequently. He was dogmatically committed to the notion that success did not have to come at the expense of a meaningful family life. And it did not have to come from a bombastic style of yelling and intimidation. To Dungy, winning was not everything, and it was not the only thing. In fact, football was clearly a secondary priority in his life, and he led his teams and his staffs accordingly. Amazingly (and much to the encouragement to those of us who share Dungy's philosophies and ideals), he succeeded nonetheless.

So, why do I think that "Quiet Strength" is not a great book? First and foremost, I just don't think that Dungy is a very good story-teller. Frankly, many of his reflections about seasons and games throughout his career were rather dry, even boring. And I'm a sports fan, so I'm inclined to be interested by sports stories. But his story-telling just didn't have much life to it, a glaring weakness in an autobiography. I also found some of his spiritual reflections and leadership lessons to be overly simplistic. I realize that he's not writing for an intellectual audience, and I do not question the authenticity and legitimacy of his spiritual commitments and leadership wisdom. But I felt as if he sometimes offered insight that was simply too generic to actually connect with the complex realities of my life. Finally, having listened to the audiobook, read by Tony Dungy himself, it quickly became clear that Dungy does not have a future in audiobook reading. His voice was so gentle and relaxed that it made me a dangerous (sleepy) driver. Again, his gracious spirit would surely make for a wonderful father and an amazing mentor, but it doesn't work well for audiobook reading.

Ultimately, I'm glad to have read "Quiet Strength" as an affirmation that integrity, healthy priorities, and spiritual commitments are not mutually exclusive with success. It was peppered with anecdotes and tidbits that may reemerge for me at some point in the future. And I finished the book with the highest esteem for Tony Dungy. However, I'm not sure that I walked away with any significant takeaways or new ideas that I can leverage in my future leadership.

Tony Dungy works marvels in this great novel. The book's beginning focuses on his childhood. He reflects on how he was raised and the various influences on his life. In a flawless and elegant way, Dungy is able to connect his childhood to key events in his life. He does a great job of setting the stage by first explaining his childhood, and then reflecting on it throughout the book. Dungy seamlessly draws on lessons he learned growing up and connects them to the situation he is describing in the book. For example, in some of his lowest points, Dungy is able to remember the lesson of always working hard that he learned from his parents. Tony Dungy also is able to implement his faith in effective way. His faith story is inspiring and adds to the story, but does not detract or distract in any way. This book is a great read and is written in a relaxed, yet formal style. I would recommend this book to most readers. Those who enjoy sports stories, faith stories, or are interested in leadership will especially like this novel. The novel has a lot of knowledge and insight and is great book to learn lessons from and take notes on. I highly recommend it.

Tony Dungy’s Quiet Strength is a fantastic read for adolescents and adults alike. This book uses the sport of football as a medium to explain multiple invaluable life lessons that Tony has learned over the years. Dungy tells a story of how his relationships, faith, and overall mindset has helped him become a winner in life. Each chapter focuses on different character-building aspects and the lessons that can be learned in both victories and hardships. There are countless quotes in this book that will leave you reflecting on your own life and how you can better it. My favorite quote from the book is, “We're not all going to reach the Super Bowl or the top of the corporate ladder, but we each have a chance to walk away from something saying, I did the ordinary things as well as I could. I performed to the full limits of my ability. I achieved success”. Overall, this is a book worth reading and a man that is worth mimicking.

Quiet Strength by Tony Dungee was a very insightful book that changed my perspective on success. It was so good to see Dungees view on Christianity. It was refreshing to see a public figure show his Christianity in an applicable way. Seeing how he brings his values into these professional football franchises. Seeing Dungee’s faith for God is inspiring for me personally. I love how it becomes easy to see how we can apply God into our daily decisions. This book also brought lots of insight into the hard work of climbing the ladder in our jobs. Dungee worked for years on multiple different football clubs until he got high enough in a program to make a difference. He also learned to roll with the punches and this is a valuable lesson for anyone. This book teaches us so much, and I think that we should all take some lessons from Tony Dungee in his book, Quiet Strength.

Tony Dungy scored a touchdown by writing the book Quiet Strength. He tells his story of how he went from a football player to a head coach in the NFL. Through all the highs and lows of his life; he continued to praise God, and look to Him. Coaching in the NFL is not an easy job, but one filled with lots of stress, pressure, hard work, and temptations. His faith gets him through all those, and God rewards him with a successful football career as a coach. The main priority in his life was giving all the glory to God no matter the circumstances. Leaning on God was a daily part of his life; as he tried to live a life of integrity, sacrifice, and service for others. He writes the book in a way that you don’t have to be an avid sports fan in order to understand or draw something from the content. It will inspire and be a great read for the entire family. The way that Dungy poises himself throughout his career as a humble will astonish you and make you realize how much of a commitment he had to the Lord in all areas of his life. He doesn’t want to focus on the Super Bowl win or how great his coaching career was, but on how God provided for him and his family in countless ways all the time.

Quiet Strength is an autobiography about the spiritual life of NFL Coach Tony Dungy. The book reflects upon his faith in God and aspects of his life. The book starts with details about his personal life as a small child and progresses through his years of playing football in college. He then describes how he met his wife and how he started a family. I enjoyed reading about everything he went through to became a successful NFL football coach. Mr. Dungy shares many stories about people who impacted his personal life as a young boy, a teenager, and coaches who taught him about life and how to be a great coach. Mr. Dungy had many struggles in his life and his coaching career. But through it all, he believes that God always had a plan for his life. Mr. Dungy also shared the sad story of his son's suicide and how his family dealt with this tragedy. I really enjoyed reading this book and connected with his insights since I currently play football in college. The book is very well written, insightful, and enjoyable to read. I would recommend this book to anyone .

Quiet Strength tells a journey of how a young boy in Michigan becomes a championship winning football coach. The book captivates the reader by the unique philosophy Tony Dungy has on coaching, but more importantly on life.
Tony Dungy's tell-all book is a guide to help others become successful while staying true to their values. He walks the reader through his own life explaining how though God's help he was able to achieve his dream. Quiet Strength is more than just one man's testimony. Tony Dungy shows how to put God, faith, and family before anything else. He shows how living in the spot light does not change who a person is, but illuminates who they always were. Tony Dungy continually says, "Do what we do, without explanation or excuse" and that is the way to become successful.
This book is for ordinary people looking for a true impactful story of one man's journey to the championships. The football fanatics may gain more from the story as the audience learns behind the scene details of what goes on in the NFL between players, coaches, and owners. Tony Dungy is an inspiration and all types of people can learn from his story.

Tony Dungy is a college football player, college football coach, super bowl championship coach, friend, husband, father, and son. Most people know Tony Dungy for is his super bowl championship with the Indianapolis Colts but Dungy is much more than that, he is a Christian.
I had to read this book for one of my college classes. At first I was thinking I wasn’t going to get anything out of a football book but once I started reading it I was amazed. Quiet Strength isn’t just a book about football, it is about how even in the hardest of times God is going to be there, all you need to do is trust him. This book is so much more then football, it is about the strength that God provided Tony to get through the hard times in his life.
I would defiantly recommend this book to everyone. You do not have to be a football fan to read this. It is a truly encouraging story about a man’s struggles in life and how he used his faith to overcome so many hardships. Dungy didn’t shove his faith down peoples throat but by small words and actions his faith was seen by all. It has really inspired me to want to live a life of quiet strength.

This book is a testament to a great man who lives outside of ego, and who lives a life of integrity. It is always wonderful to see a person shine in God's light, and in the case of Tony Dungy, that's what is happening. And that's what this book is about.

In a world in which many believe in "dog eat dog", it's a blessing to know that sports leaders of this caliber exist and succeed on their own terms. Beyond that, Tony Dungy is a testament to the power of living your life well, and by that I mean, living it as if all life matters, not just your own and not just your most immediate goal.

This inspirational book is a blueprint for living a life of integrity, beyond the limited bounds of ego. Whether you are a sports fan or not, this book is an uplifting look at how good life can be, when winning become secondary to the WAY that you win. Imagine how wonderful it would be if everyone followed the author's principles.

Tony Dungy’s Quiet Strength was a great book. I am a teenage girl who is not that into football and I read this book for class and I still enjoyed it.Tony Dungy used events that happened throughout his football playing and coaching career to teach life truths . Although there were quite a few football references, names of football players, and coaches that I did not know, for the better part of the book it was about dealing with the trials and struggles that life throws at you. I did not know much about who Tony Dungy was or anything about his life, I knew that he coached the Colts when they went to the Super Bowl and I knew that he was open about his christian faith and that is t. This book showed me that he not only walked out his faith while in the public eye, but also at home with his family.

This book is about how Tony dealt with being famous, being a Christian and having a family. From what we see on TV it seems like he has got it all together, but this book tells us about the struggles that he went through to get to where he is at and the prideful moments he struggled with. But throughout the whole book, he finds some way to relate it back to God and to his faith. When he is at the top of his game, he gives all the glory and honor to God, thanking God for getting him to where he is at in life. But when the news comes that he has to move from his hometown or someone gets sick, he wonders why God would do this to him but ultimately thanks God for all the good things that he has given to him.
I would recommend this book to anyone. It does not matter if you are a football fan or not this book has so many lessons for anyone in any stage of their life.

After reading Tony Dungy’s book, Quiet Strengths, I truly learned what it means to have complete trust in God, even when you cannot see the entire picture. I believe through the coaching and personal stories that Tony outlines in his book he shows what the meaning was, and what he learned from each hardship and success in his life. Tony starts with his young coaching life and continues through all of his highlights and failures on and off the field. He truly shows what it means to be a Christian influence in young people’s lives through actions. Tony says, “God’s definition of success is really one of the significant differences our lives can make in the lives of others.” While reading this book one can learn a lot about leadership skills as well as being a true Christian in all walks of life.
I believe that people who would thoroughly enjoy Tony Dungy’s book, Quiet Strengths, are those who are looking to gain leadership skills while keeping a Christian mind set at all times. Since the book is centered on the game of football, it may attract football lovers but I do not feel this is an essential quality to enjoy the book. I believe that anyone reading Quiet Strengths can gain personal values and be strongly influenced on how to be a positive role model. Tony is someone I look up to and I believe in what he stands for. I think he puts it very simply when he says, “What’s important is not the uniform or the number, and it’s not what team you play for or whether anyone else sees your value; it’s who you are on the inside. And when you’re in Christ, that’s never going to change.” Anyone looking for Christian inspiration would be lucky to hear the words of this wise man.

Quiet Strength is a biography about Tony Dungy. Tony Dungy led the Indianapolis Colts to Super Bowl victory on February 4, 2007, the first such win for an African American coach. Dungy had taken eight of his previous ten teams to the playoffs. With this victory, he joined Mike Ditka and Tom Flores as the only individuals to win the Super Bowl as a player and head coach. This book follows Tony Dungy through tough times and victorious highlights of his career. This book also demonstrates why Dungy has become such a well-respected hero on and off the field. Tony Dungy reveals how he successfully integrates his Christian faith into every aspect of his life. In this book Dungy shows how God’s hand of guidance on his life and divine connections to lead and keep himself on the right path. Tony Dungy proves it’s possible to be wildly successful while still maintaining the priorities of faith, family and integrity in the competitive ego-driven world of professional sports. I would recommend this book to anyone who is a huge sports fan and looking to further understand their Christian faith.

Quiet Strength is one of the best books I’ve read in a while. Tony Dungy is an incredible writer with an Incredible story to tell. From the lessons he learned from his parents as a child in Michigan, to his trials playing college football and his short professional career, to becoming the first african american head coach in the National Football league. Even though the lessons are focused on football and the other sports he played as child, the lessons can be applied to every situation in the readers life. He focuses on how his faith effected his life, the choices he made, and how God provided for him during his life. Dungy also focuses on leader ship and what makes a good leader. Dungy has an incredible writing style that makes his book compelling and easy to read. Even though I read this book for the purpose of a writing class I would thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a book on leadership and faith in a secular world.

The book "Quiet Strength" is definitely not just for sport frenzy fans, but rather is entertaining and exciting to a much wider audience; people who follow the faith of Christianity as well as people who enjoys stories of a historical coach who became the First African-American to win the super bowl and to people in general. About every other chapter Tony Dungy writes about his journey as a African-American athlete; from his time as a Basketball and football player, at the high school level to the professionals as a football player and the other chapters that alternates are focused on how God work or shown his glory within his life. The story of his journey both as a athlete and as a Christian is one that will glue your eyes and draw your heart to his powerful story. This book is one of the easiest read book I have read, flows well, easy enough to read for the common reader and it'll be hard to put down. I thoroughly enjoyed reading and discussing the book with my fellow peers, many of the "lessons" that Dungy learned in the book, I have used them to better understand situations within my own life and also applied many of them to my life as a Christian. This is a "must-read" book, I highly recommend it to those who are interested in these kinds of topic:faith, sports, leadership, life, etc. Best of luck with the book and I hope whoever do obtain the book enjoys it like I have!

Quiet strength is a memoir about Tony Dungy and his journey of life. His story is interesting because of his faith in God. Most of his entire story is relatable and easy to read. The book is encouraging and it does a great job in highlighting Tony Dungy's commitment to his faith. His wonderful testimony of doing things the right way even when it is not always popular remained a huge lesson stressed throughout the book. One thing I got out of the book was that sometimes God's plan is not always our own plan. The memoir has the highs and the lows of Tony Dungy's like as difficulties comes out of nowhere and could cloud ones vision and understanding for a short time, but in the end it all works out. The most interesting part about the book is when Tony Dungy took the losing Tampa Bay team and turned it around to a hard working, committed, and winning franchise team. In Tampa Tony relied on the fantastic defense as they began making the playoffs almost every year. During his 4th year as head coach he made it to the NFC championship, only to lose a close game to the favored St. Louis Rams. Unfortunately after that the ownership made him fire his offensive coordinator. Few years later they fired Dungry because he wasn't winning enough and replaced him with Jon Gruden. Coach Dungry's integrity and character once again contributed to the success when he was hired as a NFL coach by the Indianapolis Colts during an era where football was very important to the city. The most tragic story in the book is his testimony of his loss son only at the age of 18. His faith was the main reason that he was able to cope with the loss of his beloved son. I would recommend this book for anyone young and old to everyday people to football players seeking for success.

Quiet Strength: The Principles, Practices, & Priorities of A Winning Life is an autobiography by Tony Dungy in which he reveals his secrets to overcoming setbacks, and keeping Christ first on his way to becoming a Super Bowl champion. Tony is was one of the most respected coaches in the NFL and is a strong outspoken Christian. Tony has been through the greatest highs of life, winning the Super Bowl, but also the greatest lows, the death of his oldest son. He tells his readers how he stayed on track through the good and the bad.
Tony grew up in a Christian household, and he was a fantastic high school basketball and football player. He loved basketball, but football is where he excelled making it to college and the NFL as a player. After his three years as a player he decided to go into coaching. He spent fifteen years as an assistant coach for three different teams until he was offered the head coaching position at Tampa Bay. In the five years he was there he turned Tampa from a very bad team into playoff contenders before becoming the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. Tony Dungy and the Colts went on to win the Super Bowl in 2007.
Tony is a very humble person and he doesn't flaunt his fame as one of the best coaches in football. He has his kids live a normal Christian life even though they are the kids of a NFL coach. One day during the 2005 season Tony received a call from someone telling him his oldest son Jamie had taken his own life. Tony and Lauren, his wife, had raised their kids as Christians and they knew that Jamie was in Heaven. Tony viewed his son's funeral as a going away party and showed his great strength in god. Tony is involved in a number of organizations to help with other people's lives and help bring them close to the Lord.
I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a good read and guidance. This is truly the best book I have ever read! I have been a big Colts fan all of my life and it was great learning about Tony Dungy's life. I already respect Tony greatly as an NFL coach and the respect becomes even greater the more I learn about him. I know Tony for his calm, quiet demeanor and I loved learning about were his great attitude came from. His book is full of anecdotes that really help his purpose. Tony is a great inspiration to everyone who reads this book.

The author, Tony Dungy, is a role model in many ways. He was the first African-American coach to win the Super Bowl; he has unfailing faith in God and possesses remarkable leadership qualities. Through his persistence, he became a winning NFL coach. Even though he faced challenges in his life, his faith in God showed him that life has many rewards if he trusts in God.

The book starts with Dungy explaining his childhood. From his parents' discipline style to his days as a high school basketball player, he does a good job explaining what he has learned. Dungy goes on further to describe how he became an NFL wide receiver, before he discovered his true calling as an NFL coach. Even as Dungy talks about his career as an NFL coach, he explains what God has taught him in each phase of his life. Furthermore, Dungy tells the story of how he met his wife, the adoption of three of his children, and the tragic suicide of his son.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Dungy's memoir. He does a great job combining his football career, family life, and his walk with God. More importantly, Dungy analyzes his life, which gives the book an interesting perspective on from not only an NFL coach, but as a father. To those who don't believe in God, this book can show how God can reward you through your faith in him. It is great to see a successful man giving attribute his accomplishments to his creator, God. Tony Dungy is an inspiring man who has experienced many ups and downs in his life.

This book is a tremendously inspiring and educational story of a remarkable man and a remarkable life. There is much to learn about football, coaching, leadership, principles, family, and, most of all, faith. As a father, a son, a football fan, and a hopeful leader, there was much for me to learn with how Dungy has lead his life thus far. Having endured professional disappointment and great family tragedy, all under the ever-watching eye of the media, he has showed incredible strength and character. He is a model for all men, athletes and leaders. A great book and an easy read. Highly recommended for all.

I thought this was an inspiring book and was very impressed with the way Coach Dungy weaved his faith into the story. He's not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ and he shared his faith in a practical sense; nothing 'preachy' about his approach. The way he invites readers into his personal life was not only interesting but inspiring. I tried to emulate his style when I wrote my first book.

I felt that some of the background info could have been left out, which is the only reason I rated it a 4 star rather than 5.

Coach Dungy is a motivator and encourager and someone who will win at most anything he attempts. After reading this, I kinda wish I had been a Colts fan!

Quiet Strength by Tony Dungy is a fantastic book that kept me interested the entire time. As a professional football fan, and a Tony Dungy fan, this book was definitely worth my while.
Quiet Strength highlights the importance of always putting God first in our lives, and putting absolute trust in Him to provide for us. Tony Dungy was on a roller coaster throughout the beginning of his life. He started out an exceptional athlete himself, a professional player, and then somehow managed to follow God’s nudges and guidance to land him in a spot where he could serve Christ best.
Tony talks about his temptations, and struggles with the Lord, but he managed to stay focused on what God had in store for him, which landed him in different situations within the National Football League.
I won’t reveal any major parts of the story, but Tony also went through great trials and hardships, but he still found the strength to push onward and pursue what God had in mind for him.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys football, is searching for inspiration, or one who is looking for an all around good read. This book is directed more towards men, because of the nature of his work, but regardless of gender, much can be taken away from this book.

Quiet Yet Inspiring
Quiet Strength, a memoir of Toni Dungy's life is an inspiring and uplifting story of great leadership, obedience to God, and perseverance through struggles. As Toni Dungy, a football coach legend, shares the story of his life, the focus not on himself or what he did. Because of his strong faith in God and the trust that he portrayed in all aspects of his life, he was able to have the strength and the courage to continue on through the struggles and the difficulties of riding the roller coaster of a NFL football coach. Through the ups and downs, as quoted on the back cover, Dungy "...showed the world a better way to live, lead, and succeed". Although there were times where he had the opportunity to leave or end his career, God had other plans for his future and due to Dungy's faithfulness to God, he persevered with confidence and commitment.
Moving from state to state or city to city to many different teams and programs, Dungy impacted each and every one of them. With his leadership and hard work he instilled a winning work ethic and mentality to the each team his was working with at the time. The way he lived his life through his dedication and love for his job truly changed peoples lives. In the foreword by Denzel Washington, Washington shares that this book "truly represents the power of God and the rewards of obedience of God's Word." I could not agree more. Whether they were players, other coaches, his family, teammates of years passed or even fans witnessing him, he showed his love for God through the way he lived out his life and the example the consistently showed.
After reading Quiet Strength, I would recommend this book to any individual who can relate to the life of an athlete, a coach, or any sports fan. His life demonstrates a great balance between having the desire and goal of winning to a devout commitment to his faith and love for God. This book has opened my eyes to a great example of a life committed to success through the trust in God he shows and the dedication to his faith. This book as inspired me personally "to live, lead, and succeed." while focusing on having a heart after God.

I have always been a Tony Dungy fan. Whether he was in Tampa Bay or in Indianapolis, I always thought that he was a great role model, and overall, a classy guy. Quiet Strength exemplifies just how spectacular of a man Tony Dungy is. Quiet Strength is much more than an autobiography about a legendary football coach. It is a riveting tale of a faith filled man who just happened to coach football at a very high level. His personal stories and narratives, though filled with football, can appeal to everyone, not just football fans. Dungy does a great job of telling his life stories, and in a very coach-esque manner, manages to use football as a metaphor for life. In this book, Tony documents his triumphs and struggles, on and off the field, the courting of his wife, and the lessons he's learned. His reflections of his life accomplishments after each chapter show that Tony Dungy is not only a successful football coach, but a successful human being. He manages to teach valuable life lessons, Christian values, and overall, how do be a truly outstanding human being all through the conduit, football. The only thing that will astound you more than the life he led and the lessons he learned is his continued humbleness throughout the book. Not once did Dungy mention patting himself on the back or becoming complacent. He achieved goal, after goal, after goal, only to look for the next challenge, overcoming any obstacle in his way. If you want to learn a thing or two about living life to the fullest, do yourself a favor and pick up Quiet Strength. It may just be the best non-Harry Potter book out there.

Two things that rarely go together are football and religion. Many newscasts are filled with stories of professional athletes committing crimes and other scandalous acts. Many people, especially youth, idolize these players even though they lead a life that doesn't honor Christ. The industry is filled with corruption and backstabbing because these players and coaches ultimately want one thing, money. After reading Tony Dungy's memoir Quiet Strength, I had renewed hope in this industry, but also trust in God.
Tony Dungy shares his life story about being a coach in the NFL and how he showed his players God, but also how God helped him. Starting the book out with his childhood, he had been raised with Christian morals that never left him. As he grew up into an amazing athlete, it was obvious that God wanted him to pursue a career in football. In the corrupt industry, he was tempted many times but never fell away from God.
Even though Dungy always stuck with his Christian values, the thing that inspired me the most was his full faith in God. Being a head coach in the NFL, trades, job loss, and switching teams were not uncommon things. When Dungy and his family were faced with these challenges, he always put his full faith in God. Even if it was a difficult transition and it didn't seem like a good fit, he always trusted in God's plan for him.
Quiet Strength is an inspiring book for anyone who is struggling with putting their trust in God. Even though it is a book about football, I recommend it to all genders since males and females struggle with changes and trusting God. After seeing the amazing ways that God worked through Tony Dungy, I am reminded to always put my full trust in God. I encourage all people struggling with their trust in God to read this inspiring book.

I liked, but didn't love, this auto-biography by Tony Dungy. While I did get a lot out of the content, I would've rather had more content on a "winning life." Telling the football story almost gets in the way of the great thoughts and advice Tony has on life, although I'd imagine it's hard for him to separate given most of his day is spent with football. Highly recommend the book, particularly for men building careers and families, and looking for thoughts on doing all of that better.

Quiet Strength is great autobiography of the life of Tony Dungy. The book is a telling story about the successes, failures, happiness and sadness in the life of Tony Dungy. Dungy does a great job analyzing the happiest times of his life and the saddest parts of his life. Dungy also tells the way he is able to remain successful despite lots of hardships and disappointments. Dungy’s faith plays a pivotal role in his ability to get through the tough situations in his life. This book is very encouraging and inspiring. I enjoyed how Dungy was able to explain the ways that he was able to continue be successful even through his hard times. I really respect Dungy on the way he conducted himself through out his life and the book made me respect him even more as a person and role model. I would recommend this book to athletes who enjoy an inspirational story. Although I believe almost anyone would be inspired by reading this story.

I was reading this book for a class recently and it made me wish that I had picked it up to read on my own much earlier. I found this book to be quite inspirational in the way that Tony Dungy lives as a Christian through everything he has going on in his life. Through all of the tough times he has had in life, he counts on God to get him through and helps to encourage his players and staff to read the Bible and have faith in God.

After reading this book, I saw Tony Dungy in person and listened to him speak about being a Christian athlete and what it takes to play for Him. In the book, Dungy talks about all of the different places he has played and coached at throughout his career. I learned a lot about him through reading this book and it made me want to read his other books as well. I haven't had the chance to do this quite yet, but I plan on reading some more of his work over the summer.

I would recommend this book to anyone remotely interested in sports. It challenges you to think about how you are living life and how you can be a better Christian by being more involved with your faith. Dungy writes about many things he has been through that have tested him and helped him become closer to his family and to God. He doesn't take anything for granted and knows that whatever happens, it is all in God's plan. If you are not a Christian, I would still recommend reading this book because it may inspire you to think more openly about situations regarding Christians and to have a better outlook on life.

Tony Dungy outlines his life's passion (belief in Jesus Christ) through the lenses of his life as an athlete, father, son, and NFL football coach. It is rewarding to read Tony's words as it relates to his integrity as a person in a society where values seem to be faltering. As an educator and coach, I internalized Tony's passion for staying the course, believing in good values, and especially living your values as a role model. It was encouraging in a quick fix society to hear the story of staying the course in what a person believes in regardless of the letdowns in a person's journey. I enjoyed the theme of Quiet Strength and below are some quotes from the book that outlined some of my favorite strands intertwined in the book.

(p.51) "And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?" Matthew 16:26

(p.105) Champions are champions not because they do anything extraordinary but because they do the ordinary things better than anyone else. Chuck Noll

(p.183) It's always easier to do things the wrong way, but it's always best to do them the right way. CleoMae Dungy

Quiet Strength is a phenomenal book that describes the life of Tony Dungy. It is an inspirational book that shows how Christians can overcome the highs and lows of life. The way that Tony Dungy dealt with his issues was awe-inspiring. He would look towards the bible and the scriptures whenever he needed guidance.
Tony Dungy's writing style was casual and very understandable. This writing style was perfect because this book can be understood by any level reader. This is important because there were great messages that were portrayed in the book, and people of all ages should learn from them.
Tony Dungy got his morals mainly from his parents. He commented on their influence on his life many times. This part of the book shows its readers the importance of family. Tony Dungy would always tell his players that they could talk to him about anything and also that family must come first.
Tony Dungy did a fantastic job of describing how a Christian should live and how everyone depends on God. He is a very humble man and he is an inspiration to many. Quiet Strength is a remarkable book that people need to read, especially if they are going through some hard times.

Quiet Strength is an amazing book in the eyes of a Christian athlete. The book is truly inspirational. Most people expect the book to be about football, but the book is actually about how to live a Christian life. Dungy reflected on his football journey and on his walk with God at the same time. He is a prime example of a great coach, husband, and father. When everything was going right for Dungy, he gave all the glory to God. When things started to fall apart in his life, Dungy praised God for all his blessings. Dungy leaned on God for direction throughout his entire life.
Dungy does not brag much about being a NFL head coach; instead, he lets everyone know that his life is the same as ours. As NFL head coach, Dungy put emphasis on the importance of family time. Dungy made sure that all his employees were able to go home and spend time with their families at night. The Dungy family acquired many problems, but they were still able to praise God throughout their difficulties. Quiet Strength is a great book for anybody who likes football and wants to deepen his or her faith with God.

In the pages of this captivating biography, Tony Dungy reveals the secrets to his successes in life-principles, practices, and priorities that have kept him on track despite overwhelming and unforeseen obstacles, including personal trials, setbacks, and stereotypes. He led the Colts to #1 in the world-and showed the world a better way to live, lead, and succeed in life and in faith. Also being the first African American to do so. Dungy shows his success without the need of profanity, drama, or losing a sense of his priorities. Through it all, the ups and downs, Dungy looks to God. It is a book about a remarkable man and his journey up to now that everyone should read and take something away.

I would recommend this book to anyone, not just men or football fans. It doesn't matter what your background or interests are, everyone should read this book. You don't have to be a Colts fan. You don't have to even be a sports fan. You don't have to be a Christian, although Dungy's strength in faith is quite inspiring, especially compared to others in the sport of football. It will make you question your priorities and will change the way you think. It is an art to see how one man can balance so many things at once, from his family, to his job, to his faith. The book is a great way to learn from a great man, about how to be the best without compromising ones values. It is worth the price and can be passed on for many others to learn from. I admire Dungy's faith and actions and aspire to be a person of God that lives his faith the way Dungy does.

Quiet Strength, what a book! Tony Dungy does an awesome job with this one. As an athlete myself, it was very easy to get into. I have played for many different coaches, but never one with the “quiet strength” of Tony Dungy. Most coaches in general are more fired up, but Tony Dungy is more reserved and keeps his emotions in check.
This is a great book for a more mature reader who is able to understand the complexity of Tony Dungy and how he carries himself. If anyone is a sports fan at all, this is a must read, although it is not an X’s and O’s kind of book. Getting inside his head throughout the book and reading his reflections. I really like how he kind of jumps around a little because it really feels like you are inside his head and moving along with his thoughts as he goes. It is very interesting how he thinks and acts out his true faith.
I would recommend this book for the mature person who is a fan of sports just to see how special Tony Dungy really is.

Quiet Strength by Tony Dungy is a truly inspirational story about his life and his faith. In this book Tony Dungy looks back on his life and tells about the main events from his early childhood all the way to him winning the Super Bowl with the Indianapolis Colts. Tony Dungy can relate to many readers as he talks about the everyday struggles that he experienced in his life. It does not feel like a professional football player or coach wrote this book, instead it feels very much down to earth. Another great aspect of this book is that is does not take a football expert to understand what he is talking about. He makes it very easy to track with him and he never loses the reader with football “lingo”. I would recommend this book to anyone. As I said before it can be enjoyed by anyone in any walk of life, it is not for sports fans only. It is an easy read that will not take too long, and engrosses the reader the whole time. It is a personal favorite of mine.

I highly recommend the Quiet Strength by Tony Dungy to anyone who loves sports and strives to honor God with their life. Tony Dungy is a humble, God-fearing man with much to teach us from his life. At the time that Tony Dungy wrote this book he was the head coach of the Colts. He brought his team to the Superbowl and won it! Besides being a successful football coach, Mr. Dungy is a loving husband and caring father. Throughout his book, Quiet Strength, Tony Dungy teaches his readers many important lessons that he has learned throughout his career. One of my favorite lessons he taught me in this book was, “Things will go wrong at times. You can't always control your attitude, approach, and response. Your options are to complain or to look ahead and figure out how to make the situation better.”
Tony Dungy’s book is an easy, fun, and engaging read!

Tony Dungy's book, Quiet Strength is a powerful book on the principles and priorities of a winning life. Tony Dungy is the previous head coach of the Indianapolis colts and has been known as a Christian man his whole lifetime. He uses his job as a NFL head coach to teach people who read his book about the winning lifestyle he has become used to with his 139-69 win loss record as an NFL head coach. He explains what has happened from his childhood to current day to help strengthen his faith in god and in himself. I was moved several times and he changed my outlook on how to be a better person and athlete.

Coach Dungy tells of his childhood and how early in life he was exposed to things like peer pressure, drugs, alcohol and more but God helped influence his decisions and kept him out of trouble. He also tells how he developed his passion for sports at a young age and continued with them throughout his life. Dungy tells of his childhood growing up in the town of Jackson, Michigan in a time of cultural change. Even in this time of change Tony was still able to develop into a good young man. He participated as a guard on the basketball team and a quarterback on the football team. He was even featured in Sports Illustrated's faces in the crowd.

During his college years Tony was faced with some tough decisions and drew on his father's wisdom and his faith to God to overcome most of the tough situations he was in. He was one of the best quarterbacks in college football and he shares stories of how it taught him dedication and toughness. In later chapters Dungy refers to the death of his son in 2005 at the young age of 18. Dungy explains how even though he was going through a tough time himself he still found time to coach and mentor to the many children and athletes he has dedicated his life to helping. Dungy is a member of many charitable programs in the Indianapolis area such as Mentors for Life, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Club, the Prison Crusade Ministry, foster parenting organizations, and Family First. He refers to these programs many times throughout Quiet Strength and explains his roles in the programs. I admire his quality and integrity as a person. He successfully made a transition into a young man without giving in to every day temptations. He proves to all of us that good people really do still exist.

Quiet Strength by NFL head coach Tony Dungy is a great book. When I picked up this book I was expecting the book to be all about football. After reading this book, I found out the exact opposite. In Quiet Strength, Tony Dungy talks not only about football but also talks about real life situations that anyone struggles with from day to day. Dungy tells about his life growing up until the time of being an NFL head coach who had just won an NFL super bowl. Dungy does not boast about being an NFL coach who had won an NFL super bowl, but rather he is humble and explains how he is just like any other average person who brings the kids to school and goes to work. This shows a lot about Dungy's personality and who he is as a person. Dungy talks about how much of a time commitment being a head coach of the NFL is between practices and watching game tapes last into the night. As a head coach, Dungy makes sure that his coaching staff gets home at a reasonable time of the night so that they are able to spend time with their families and the ones they love. Family is something that is very important to Dungy and you are able to see that when tragedy hits the Dungy family. Dungy shows what it means to cling to God and His promises when times of tragedy and sadness come our way in life. This is a great book that teaches many important life lessons for all ages. I would recommend this book to anyone who has a passion or an interest about the NFL. Quiet Strength makes you think a lot about your own life and what is most important.

George Washington Carver stated, "When you can do the common things of life in an uncommon way, you will command the attention of the world." No statement could better describe the life of Coach Tony Dungy. In his book Quiet Strength, Dungy humbly relates the story of his life leading up to his Super Bowl XLI win. The book is masterfully organized in a down-to-earth way, captivating any reader with poignant metaphors and challenging life lessons.

Quiet Strength conveys what Coach Dungy has experienced and learned throughout his life, focusing mainly on his coaching years. In the chapter titled "Do What We Do," Dungy lays out his straightforward coaching strategy: whatever it takes; no excuses, no explanations; and do what we do. Such seemingly simple concepts define Dungy's life and coaching career.

Throughout the story, Dungy shares the many successes and hardships he has faced in his career. From meeting his beautiful wife Lauren to hearing about his son's suicide, Dungy effectively conveys his heart's passions and pains through plain speech and gripping insights.

Dungy also describes how God's plan for his life led him throughout his entire journey. The connections between Dungy's situations and what God was doing in his life at the time are encouraging for the Christian and skeptic alike. Dungy's reliance on God makes the book an inspiring read. The book is sure to become an instant favorite of all who read it.

As a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan, there's a special place in my heart for Tony Dungy. I especially enjoyed the stories of his interactions with players and his account of what transpired when leaving the Bucs team. I do think that anyone would enjoy reading this book. This book is a story of his life lessons and his career in sports from childhood basketball to winning the Super Bowl as the Colts head coach. Quiet Strength written by Tony Dungy is a great book to read for all ages both men and women. Tony Dungy, for those who do not know who he is, he was born in 1995. He was a professional American football player and also a National Football League coach for both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Indianapolis Colts. In the year of 2007, he won the Super Bowl against the Chicago Bears. He then later retired in 2009. He is married and has five children.
Quiet Strength is a great book that has both a sport and faith story being told. If someone were to like either of those topics I would highly recommend this book for them. The book starts off talking about Tony's childhood and what his life was like. He talks about becoming a professional football player and also having to have time for God. He had a hard time trusting God through out his life, but becoming a coach was where his faith journey really started to happen. It is amazing to hear his life story and how God has been a part of it in so many ways. It will make someone think about his or her faith in God and what is truly the right thing.
As a reader, this book was really touching. Tony was able to go through many obstacles and still keep his strong faith. He was a great coach; he never really yelled at his players or got mad at them. He had the attitude that things happen for a reason and do not always go the way someone wants them to. I believe this book is a nice way to take someone's mind off his or her ups and downs from the day.

I purchased this book because it was on sale. I had heard nice things about the book, and since it was on sale, I decided to purchase it. The book is an easy read, and rather true to its title, it is a "quiet" book. However, there is great power in this book, and like Christ Jesus, the power comes from the gentleness and quietness of its message and delivery. I was glad I read it, and I also purchased two other copies for family members. If you want a nice read, with a gentle, powerful "punch" and wonderful lift, I recommend this book. If you're seeking a book that can inspire others you might be trying to reach, I recommend this book. Enjoy.

Quiet Strength is a terrific autobiography but an even better manifesto for developing and living a better life. Though Tony Dungy may be revered most for his association with football, one will discover after reading this book, that he is also a man who should be recognized for his inspirational life philosophy. The book tells the story of Dungy and all the life lessons that he learns along the way. It is an ideal combination of subjects that are very dear to many people's hearts, faith and football. Even from a non-religious perspective, Quiet Strength still offers a myriad of practical advice than can without doubt be applied to anyone whose goal is to live a better life. The book reads like a well written thriller novel in the sense that the reader will not want to put it down until the very last page has been read. An autobiography does not typically appeal to as many individuals as Quiet Strength does. It is a great combination of faith, sports, autobiography, family, and advice on how to deal with ordeals that will no doubt deeply resonate with anyone who reads this book. As noted on the cover, the primary aspect of this book is not football, though it is an important part of Dungy's life, but rather "the principles, practices, and priorities of a winning life." As far as autobiographies are concerned, all others pale in comparison to this unparalleled workmanship that has been masterfully written by Tony Dungy.

This book drew my attention immediately (even before reading) due to its author, Tony Dungy. This was more than enough to convince me to read book, but I was still unsure of the theme of the book. The title itself also grabbed my interest and soon brought clarity to my questions about the tone of the book. If you're a Christian, especially one that's experienced hardship, this reading is one that I would strongly recommend.
Tony Dungy is a very humble, traditional, family-orientated Christian man. This becomes clear immediately in his writing; however, he divulges details into his personal life including topics that are very difficult to discuss. I was a little surprised by this due to the fact that Dungy stays within himself and is very soft-spoken in any public speaking setting. I found this kind of writing very endearing because he shares some very difficult life experiences. This is occurs early and often throughout the book. Through all of the hardship, Dungy stays consistent with his method of humble perseverance and most of all his faith. He relates nearly everything back to scripture or some sort of Christian context. I found this extremely refreshing in today's society when a large public figure such as Dungy can humble himself through all of his struggles, and still give all the glory to God.

I can honestly say I could not read this book without a dry eye; this book was very emotional because I have admired Coach Dungy since he was a player in San Francisco. His faith will help me stay the course with the Lord and has put my life in perspective as long as I continue to "do what I do."

I appreciate his quiet strength to which I will apply in my daily life as well as giving all of my problems to the Lord who will work everything out in His own time.

Thank you Tony Dungy for sharing your principles, practices, and priorities with us; you, your immediate family, and future generations to come will have continuous blessings from the Lord - Amen.

Tony Dungy's, Quiet Strength, was a book I'd recommend for anyone who has a faith. It was a book that was basically about his life, everything leading up to his career as a football coach, and everything he went through as a football coach. A lot of things happened to him in his life that tested his faith, but never once did his trust in God waiver. It really makes you reflect on your life and how important God is to you. Just because bad things happen doesn't mean God doesn't still love you or have a plan for your life. One of the only things I didn't like about this book, was that there were many instances where he would stop and talk pages about different football things. For example, there was a part where he talked a couple pages about a couple plays his team could do, and if you don't know football lingo, it can get really confusing. He did that quite a few times, but overall I thought this book was a wonderful read. It's a great book for teenagers through any age to read, especially if you have a faith. I would definitely recommend this book.

This isn't a book about football - it is a book about faith. Certainly football provides the backdrop throughout, and there are enough sports anecdotes to keep the football fan happy, with nice glimpses into coachs' meetings and pre-game pep talks, but in the end it is a testimony to how trusting God is a commitment, about how your decisions shape who you are and the people around you.

The book is well written, and also includes some nice photographs in the middle. Highly recommended.

Quiet Strength was a very enlightening story of Tony Dungy's career. Even through very harsh times, he seemed to discover the positive aspects of the situation. He always believed that god always had a reason for everything, and that every downward slump always meant that certain things would get better in the future.
Tony Dungy started his career as a Pittsburgh Steeler. He was originally drafted as a defensive back (he played quarterback in college). After realizing that the NFL did not give as much opportunities as he expected, the head coach of the Steelers (Coach Noll) gave him the opportunity to be the defensive backs coach. This was the turning point of his career.
From this point on Tony Dungy went to coach for the multiple other teams, until landing his head-coaching job at Tampa. When he took this position, he took in all the information from all of his former colleagues and coaches to help mold his team into a winning organization. He also realized that god played a major role in his success. He also took his fathers knowledge into consideration when he was creating a game plan for his team.
Tony Dungy believes that his second season with the Buccaneers was his most successful season as a head coach for the National Football League. He believes this because that season, he felt the greatest bond between everybody on the team. He thought that because they started the season with tremendous success. They were winning games as a "team", not just as players.
Once Tony Dungy moved on from the Buccaneers he continued to have great success with the Indianapolis Colts. They were even able to win Tony Dungy his first Super Bowl. But throughout Tony Dungy's life he will continue to live life with god in consideration.

First off I would like to say that I am a big football fan and I really enjoyed reading this book. I would also like to say that this is not a book for just football fans, it is relatable to anybody. Because I am a football fan and a Tony Dungy fan as well, I already knew about most of the events in the book, but this book gave me a different perspective on all of those events. It was interesting to see his reflections on what was happening and what was going through his head.
It was also interesting to see how Tony Dungy, who is known for his football knowledge, show his writing prowess as well. I was surprised by how well written this book was seeing as it was coming from an NFL coach and not an accomplished writer. I would recommend this book to pretty much anybody, especially football fans, but not just football fans. Anybody can enjoy this book in my opinion.

This book is very well written and does a great job of portraying Tony Dungy as the great coach and great person that he is. The book is all about his philosophy on life and how his faith permeates every facet of what he does, both on the football field and off. The book also brings to light how several of the other past NFL players who Coach Dungy played with and worked with use their faith to guide their lives and carreers. It is quite interesting to read how the past players' lives are quite different from their personnas on the football field. Overall, a great read and a very good look into the NFL and into the life of a great coach and person.

Tony Dungy is a great man, and this book has enhanced my appreciation for his success--and for what it means to be a coach in the NFL. I'm not sure this is a great book, but I enjoyed all of it--a couple of months after bailing on Halberstam's bio of Belichick. Go figure. Halberstam starts out with a bit too much about Belichick's Croatian working class roots, and Dungy starts out with a tedious segment about getting fired from Tampa Bay. This is editing or structure.

I didn't really mind how Tony turns to prayer every five minutes, although some readers might. I get that. It's who he is. He is also sanctimonious as can be. If he's not praying he's giving you the down low on his family in a way many will find overdone. His middle name is equanimity. Maybe that's what takes the edge off this autobiography as a reading experience.

I don't mean he has to manufacture angst that he's not feeling. Here's one idea. (I'm writing this a day after the Patriots' penalties for Deflategate were announced.) I'd have liked to have heard Tony's take on some of the shadier aspects of the game, the win-at-all-costs culture, what effect this has on college sports, anything along these lines. Even players' health issues, which weren't headline news at the time of this book, but have been well known for years. You would think that an ethical, holistic, family guy like Tony would have thought about some of this.

He doesn't skirt his son's suicide, but he doesn't make an effort to draw any lessons either. Well, anyone would give him a pass on that I guess.

From the inauspicious start, Dungy lines up a fluid chronology of his life in football. My wife and I will watch multiple NFL games on a weekend, but enough's enough. Part of the appeal of the game is the short season. So other readers with better background or more obsessiveness may not be impressed, but I learned a lot here about the nitty gritty of hiring and firing coaching staffs. The draft and how important that is. I learned that Chuck Noll won four Super Bowls with a pretty much nine-to-five philosophy. Marty Schottenheimer, by contrast, has his coaches watching film at 2AM. Dungy's interest in coaching was sparked by a fairly offhand comment by Giants coach Ray Perkins.

So this is a life in football, told by a very intelligent and sensitive guy. But in the end he doesn't really let you in. Again I think this just Tony Dungy's nature. He is not a guy to take the limelight. It's very attractive in a person, but it necessarily diminishes the story-telling a bit.

This book was a very good book to read. It showed how Tony himself went through hardships in his life and how he pushed through those hard times. He had great resilience that showed that even when he got fired and his son passed away that he knew that God was there and that everything happens for a reason. Quiet Strength was a great title for this book because Tony wasn't the loudest person but he showed his strength with in and the actions that he projected. I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars because you could feel his emotions through reading it and was very inspiring. I couldnt put the book down and just wanted to keep reading it. I would suggest this book to everyone for all ages that love football or just want a good read.

Tony Dungy is truly inspiring. Quiet Strength is not just about how he became to be an NFL football coach who lead his team to win the super bowl but, more importantly it shows the struggles he has faced to bring him where he is today. He unfolds the secrets to his personal success throughout many obstacles, such as losing his parents, as well as his son. As a coach, Dungy wasn't focused on teaching and leading men in the game of football; instead, it was about incorporating the Lord into everyday actions. Dungy was a humble man who touched the lives of many through his leadership.
I would recommend this book to anyone; one does not have to love sports to appreciate his story. This book hardly compares to other memoirs I have read, Tony Dungy is an incredible writer and his story is such a good example for young men today, throughout each of his struggles, anyone can relate. After reading his story, one will look at the things and their lives and discover what really matters.

I love Tony Dungy.

He left The Kansas City Chiefs for The Minnesota Vikings, but hey nobody's perfect. Yes, I'm born and raised in Lawrence . Go KU!!!!!
But, I've admired him for so long. I must have read hundreds of sports books, and I put this one off for a while for a strange reason. I don't cry much but when I heard back in 2005 that one of his sons killed himself I broke down like a baby.

This book is totally awesome because it's about faith. Though I was raised protestant, I don't believe in God. I think most religious people are hypocrites, but there's something about this book that speaks to the soul.

It really has me thinking about what's truly important in life.

If a genii in a bottle had shown up and said I could give all that up to be the son of Tony, instead of that miserable excuse of an old man that I got, I would have picked being Tony's son in a second.

Anyway, I read the book finally and it's now at the top of my list. He doesn't walk on water but he sure has got `Quiet Strength' big time. For those of you who don't know a thing about football, that's OK, it's about faith, leadership, and what it really means to be a man.

I am a young person trying to break into the field coaching. I currently work for a division one program and some times I get discouraged. Coaching is a difficult profession to break into and some times my life gets discouraging. My father got me this book and told me to read it. It was after a particularly bad week that I decided to read this book and it lifted my spirits. Coach Dungy has the right idea in a profession full of wrong ones. Knowing people like him have made it gives me strength to keep going.

"Quiet Strength" is a very inspiring book written by Tony Dungy. Dungy is a football coach, a dad, and a spiritual leader. He coaches football teams and has hard decisions to make with each team. He overcomes many difficult situations with his family and he makes sure he puts his family first. Throughout this novel Tony expresses his feelings and he talks about the hard times he had to go through. Dungy ties God in with a lot of his experiences and is spiritual while coaching. Many of his players were inspired by him and what he brought to the field each day. From reading "Quiet Strength" I was inspired because of the way Tony Dungy lived his life. He made sure his family was doing well and he put them first. Dungy played the football games fair and he did what was best for his team. He never gave up and he always fought until the end. Dungy has a great outlook on life and he is very motivating and if one were to read this novel they may become very inspired by him.

Although I am not a huge football follower and personally prefer good movies and theater to watching football, I have recently become more of a fan since I was in Boise visiting family last year when Boise State won the Fiesta Bowl. Then, when I returned home to Indiana, I got caught up in the play offs and the Super Bowl. Even though, my niece's husband plays for the Bears and I was pulling for them, I couldn't help but love the Colts and their wonderful coach, Tony Dungy. I bought his book for a friend who is a great Colts fan, and read it myself. I love to read and belong to two book clubs, but I don't normally read "sports" books. However, this book is more than a sports book; it contains romance, adventure, history, inspiration and even mystery. I could not put it down. Now, I have an even greater respect for Coach Dungy and his team.
I recommend Quiet Strength to all men, women and young people including those who know nothing about the sport of football. Quiet Strength: The Principles, Practices, & Priorities of a Winning Life

This book really opened my eyes. I was a little skeptical of when I initially picked it up, knowing that it was written by a NFL coach, but as I began to be engaged with the book, I started to appreciate what Tony Dungy had to say. It was about Tony Dungy's pathway to becoming a head coach in the NFL and his ultimate goal of winning a super bowl. It talks about all the struggles he faced along the way, but also the successes and achievements that he attained. Throughout the book Coach Dungy remained a man of God. He put his family first as well as the families of his players and coaches. Dungy was by no means perfect, but he is a great example of a leader in sports and a leader in glorifying the Lord. I learned a lot from this book and recommend it to anyone but especially to people who have a background of sports. Tony Dungy is a great man of God and has written this book so that others could follow in his footpath.

Even though I am not a football fan, I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Tony Dungy as a person of faith in this book. It was interesting to read about how he looked to God for guidance in all his decisions. I bought two of my nephews this book as a graduation gift and told them I hope they will find their passion in life and would always put God first.

Some audiobooks are not read by the author; Quiet Strenght is told by Tony Dungy which brings the book to life. His openness abou this faith, his life and his journey is not only enlightening, but inspiring. It is amazing that a man as successful as he is; can also be humbling but still motivational in his manner and speech. This audiobook is a true joy to listen to and I can see sharing it with friends and purchasing it for others.

Quiet Strength: The Principles, Practices, & Priorities of a Winning Life

"Quiet Strength" is an extraordainary book because of its written presentation, an easy, compelling read, and, most importantly, the subject, Tony Dungy. Coach Dungy's dedication to living and sharing the principles of Christianity is remarkable. He never seems to have veered from his belief and dedication. This dedication would be remarkable in the life of anyone; however, to see it so consistently practiced in the "sport of mighty men" is even more noteworthy. It's a bible study in the most practicle terms.

"Quiet Strength" also provides an excellent insight into the workings of the NFL and Coach Dungy's management of the various "opportunities" he encountered. His dedication to his family is a model for fathers of all stripes. His demonstrated respect and reliance on his wife's contributions and support are better than textbook teachings. Despite the obvious heartaches, this book also has humor: his wife to-be cannot imagine why a guy who is a former Pittsburgh Steeler player and currently a Pittsburgh Steeler coach cannot find a date in Pittsburgh and has to resort to blind dates.

This book is honest and open.

"Quiet Strength" is a book well worth reading.

Super Bowl championship coach Tony Dungy writes a tell-all book that the entire family can read. In fact, Dungy would not start his own bio with "super bowl championship coach." Instead, he would begin it with "Christian," then "husband," "parent," and "friend." Even when talking about coaching, Dungy's philosophy is on coaching the entire person--mentoring.

"Quiet Strength" is one part autobiography, one part thrilling sports biography, one part coaching technique, one part dealing with suffering, one part family life narrative, one part social commentary, and one part Christian living teaching. Woven together seamlessly, the subtitle accurately provides the beautiful tapestry that results: "The Principles, Practices, and Priorities of a Winning Life."

This is an amazing book that recounts coach Dungy's progression from a kid in Detroit to a Super Bowl winning coach. What is most amazing about Coach Dungy is that he never once measures his success by what he has accomplished in the sports world; rather, he speaks about his development into a man of God and his commitment to giving God praise in all things, both the highs and lows. I really caught a glimpse into the kind of person that Tony Dungy is when I read this book, and my respect for him grew beyond its already high standing as a result.

"Quiet Strength" is about much more than it may seem at first. Dungy relates his experiences well, sharing a narrative of his life that shows the man behind the coach. He does not waste a page, using each and every word as a way of connecting with the reader through his writing. Each chapter of this book shares a story from his life as well as a lesson he learned, that can be applied to many situations through life. Being about so much more than football, "Quiet Strength" was definitely worth a chance, and I would have to recommend that others read it as well!

I was slow to get around to reading Coach Dungy's book - I just finished it!! I am a rabid football fan, so I was expecting a book about football. Imagine my PLEASANT SURPRISE when I found a book not so much about football but about LIFE!! I know we are supposed to aim to be like God - but Coach Dungy lives a God-like life every day. I came away from reading this book with boundless respect and admiration for the man. Yes, he knows football - but he knows football is really very minor in the grand scheme of life in general. The only change I would have made would have been to focus less on being "black" and focus more on being "human." May God continue to bless you, Coach Dungy.

This book is real, direct, clear and concise. I love the foreword by Denzel Washington and Tony Dungy explains in great ways how it pays to do things the right way and to treat people with respect. The book is mainly about how to live your life, but of course it's a little about football too. I also highly recommend "Understanding: Train of Thought".

Not only did I find value in Dungy's biography, but so did my 12 year old son. It has plenty of compelling details of his challenges during his tenure as coach of the Buccaneers and Colts.

Dungy is a man with perspective! A good role model to young adults of keeping a balanced outlook on life while loving God, Family, and Football. In a culture that seems to worship Sport, Dungy earned Super Bowl rings as a player and a coach. Yet football doesn't define his value or identity as a person. The book describes clearly that his confidence and strength comes from the inward trust and dependence on God.

His story doesn't "candy coat" the glamorous life of a Super Bowl winning coach. It does have high moments of victory, but also personal tragedy. And in those moments of hardship, he learned to trust in God's guidance and go forward. The lessons and principals in "Quiet Strength" are worth discussing with the members of your family team.

This is truly an outstanding book about a great man. Even though I am a Redskins fan I REALLY enjoyed this book. A very inspiring book. The book covers the life of Coach Dungy from his childhood up through the Super Bowl victory by the Colts. I read this book in a couple of days. As a Colts fan, I was familiar with Tony Dungy's actions on the field, but this book gives us a glimpse at the man's life and perspective off the field. Tony Dungy places God and Jesus, then family, above all other things and attempts to live his life accordingly. I was impressed with his description and explanation of his decision making process in all areas of life - a process that has now resulted in a championship without the quest for that championship becoming the overriding priority in his life. For anyone seeking guidance in parenting and/or their professional life, Tony Dungy's example and lessons are transferrable to those areas and more. God bless Tony Dungy, his family and our community.

It's not often a book comes along that makes you a better person as you read it, but Tony Dungy's book Quiet Strength does just that. The book covers Dungy's faith, moral foundation and character in broad strokes. It also gives a rare window into the hard work and constant choices that go into building NFL teams, most notably of course the Indianapolis Colts, into champions. The inspiration of this book comes from the clear demonstration that any life, any career, any personal relationship managed with faith and integrity will triumph to its greatest potential.

This is a great book to share with friends and family. Make sure you treat yourself to it as well. You definitely don't have to be a football fan to enjoy Dungy's book, but football fans will find it to be a fascinating blend of life and sport.

Tony Dungy's book, "Quiet Strength" is one of the better books I have read recently. I'm not someone that is big into watching sports and I don't really follow football all that much so I wasn't quite sure how much I would like this book when I first picked it up, but it turned out to be better than I expected. This book is a great autobiography and it's a great story of how God will always be with you through both the good and the bad. There was also a good balance between getting in depth with football talk, and keeping things simple for everyone to understand. Tony could have very easily filled the book with a bunch of football terms and made it hard for you to know what he is talking about unless you know a lot about football. Overall I thought this was a great book and I would recommend it to anyone.

The events in the book are so recent and yet so real, that it allows the reader to relive the ups and downs of one of the strongest yet quietest coaches in NFL history. It also speaks of the patience that not only Coach Dungy displayed, but the patience of two ownership groups in Tampa Bay and Indianapolis. The book has many scripture references and life applications that can be used outside of football. From the highs of the Super Bowl victory to the lows of Coach Dungy's son suicide, this book records and teaches a `quiet strength'.

I am not a Colts Fan, but I am a fan of some of the players and their now-ex-Coach, Tony Dungy. As a football fan I respect how he worked on the sidelines, his game calling and demeanor. And all you ever had to do is listen to him for a few moments to realize how special he is off the field and what strength he has as a human being.

Always in control and with a grace that is too often lacking nowadays in too many sports figures. It is refreshing to know how some are still worth looking up to as people. Coach Dungy, thank you for what you accomplished in football and setting an example that all should follow.

Tony Dungy's "Quiet Strength" was life changing. This book, even though written by an ex-head coach and someone who is famous, was down to earth. It relates to the average reader. He tells about his everyday struggles, that almost everyone can relate to. He even went through tragic events like his son committing suicide. It's unbelievable how he is willing to share with us how he made it through the mess of tragic events and is still believing in God. This book proved to be much more than I'd expected. I've read the books of many famous personalities (in and out of sports), and I can honestly say that Coach Dungy breaks all the stereotypes. When he's at the top of his game, he gives the glory to God, his family and his team. When he's in the worst places of life, he praises God for His goodness. When he's searching for answers, he chooses to lean on God for direction. He consistently lives a life of integrity, sacrifice and service.....and allows the glory to go to the One who deserves it, not to himself. Wouldn't it be great if all of our professional sports figures conducted themselves in a similar way? Though I've never been a Colts fan, this book and the various interviews I've recetnly seen with Coach Dungy have won me over. I'd HIGHLY suggest this book for your summer reading list.

His faith in Crist helps to lead him in making decision in life and the people he deals with on the gridiron. This book is also for those who don't like sports. It's refreshing to know there is man in sports who does't compromise his beliefs just to win games. Even if you are not religious, this is still a great read and very insightful about NFL football. To me, this book served as a great reminder of the lesson that God has a plan for each of us, and it is not always what we expect it to be. Sometimes there are twists and turns that don't make sense at the time, so it is important to "let go and let God" handle it. Tony Dungy is doing things the right way! This book is an excellent representation of doing things by a moral code rather than just coaching to win. Tony Dungy's life was shaped by his parents and he passed along those great gifts to his children, players and friends.

I am not religious, but Tony Dungy explains his faith in a sense that even I can appreciate. If you want to read an inspiring book that puts family and friendship first, this is the book for you.

Whether you are a parent, a coach or both this book is absolutely captivating. I have been reading it with our 12 year old son and found myself reading ahead after he went to bed. Tony Dungy is an inspiring man of God and his wisdom and experience will certainly give adults and young readers a new perspective on life.

I am in the process of purchasing other copies of the book to give to clients and friends. It is a great story and is the best book I have read in years!

I had been wanting to read this book for a long time and was not disappointed. Although I am a huge football fan and loved the football stories, it was the message on faith and leadership that won me over. Kudos

Great start to motivational books, I loved this book and read it 3 times, then gave it to a friend who actually doesn't ever read, and well lets just say he is on his second go with the book. I just finished Tony's new one "Uncommon: Finding Your Path to Significance" After reading this one dive right into the next one "Uncommon" you can't lose. Hope this helps you all in your decision to read these. I loved them and will pass them on to everyone I know.
Thanks,

Coach Tony Dungy shares with the reader the important lessons he has learned that have brought him to the success he is enjoying. This includes the respect he has earned as a champion NFL coach and as a man of faith. It is well-written, sensitive and humorous. Best biographical book I've read in a long time.

I think it's worth it for any sports fan to read. The information about football, the authors' life, and his opinions were written in a way that kept the book interesting to me. There were times when I couldn't put it down. Since the book was written fairly recently, I felt I was getting good, up-to-date information. A lot of the players are still playing for the coach right now. So I would advise reading it as soon as possible before too much time goes on.

As a fellow Christian, I wanted to know how Coach Tony Dungy excercised his faith in God in a day to day life, particularly, in difficult situations. This book is a wonderful testimony on how faithful God is and how God works in ordinary peoples lives. I applaud Coach Dungy for stood by his faith and being an excellent example as a Christian. It is evident that God is using him for His glory. Coach Dungy was very candid about his life experiences and feelings, and I was much encouraged by his book.

Excellent autobiography and it's easy to see why he's been so successful in his playing and coaching career. He is a great role model in sports when all the headlines are about athletes that get in to some type of trouble. This book is easy to read and talks a lot of fottball and relates those football lessons to life. I think it's a great book for those that follow football, not so sure you'd like it as much if you didn't follow football.

Absolutely the most awesome book. It was a book you couldn't put down. My husband who is not a constant reader, read the book in less than 2 days. I admire Tony Dungy for his openness and wellingness to share this book with us. He is a man to be admired and look to for advice on living a great life. My husband and I would highly recommend this book to everyone.

As a die hard football fan and faithful family man i found this book very interesting. It's fun to hear the behind the scenes stuff that occurred during Tony's time in the NFL. Tony also does a great job inspiring me as a father and person of faith. I do NOT like to read, but once I started this book it was easy to finish.

Incredible book on an incredible person! This book is well-written and relevant to both sports fans and non-sports fans alike. The life lessons Coach Dungy shares are truly time-less and applicable for all walks of life. I rarely read books, but this one is a must-read! Once I got to page 1, I could not bear to put it down until the final chapter. If you're not a fan of Coach Dungy before you read this book, you will be a fan before you finish it!

Tony Dungy shows that the quiet man can accomplish great things. Coaching, and life do not require boisterous, bloviating and bullying to be sucessful. We need more coaches like Tony. In sports and in life itself.

I could write many paragraphs about Coach Dungy's book, however I'll try to keep it short. This book has helped me focus as a christian father, husband and business owner. Woven throughout the book is the theme that God is working in each of us and we must listen to what he is saying and trust Him. This is a must read!!!! ALSO, I will be using the Bible Study and Tailgate Party kit in our Men's Minstry and small group program at church.

Tony Dungy is one of the finest people you will ever meet, read about or know. His dedication to doing everything with honor and integrity, in a world and business where that is rare, really says all you need to know about the man. And when people may say that a Super Bowl made his career, it's the furthest thing from the truth. Tony Dungy is the definition of class and a role model for every man, woman, and child.

One will be hard pressed not to relate to the honesty Tony Dungy has offered. He is more than inspirational and motivational; he is a man with character and integrity. This book could not have been given a better title. Tony Dungy is the type of role model that is desperately needed in our culture and this world. This book is loaded with wisdom for living life that is not defined by circumstance.

This was an excellent book. It showed how ones spiritual beliefs can guide you through our daily lives both in good and and bad.

It gave great insight to how and why the Indianapolis Colts football team is managed and what their priorities are in regard to player selection and weekly stradagy.

And finally, Tony presents his philosophy on how trying to do the "right thing" in all situations leaves you with few regrets.

I have probably read this book at least 15 times and have bought as many copies as the number of times that I have read it. I am totally inspired by it and each time I buy another book I keep giving it away. I urge all of my friends and associates to read it. This book has done so much for me and strengthened my faith even more. The way Tony relys on his faith in all walks of life has inspired me.

Quiet Strength: The Principles, Practices, & Priorities of a Winning Life]]This was a great book. I Recommend it for old and young men alike. A true man of faith. Tony Dungy teaches us how to keep God first and still remain driven to personal success. He shows us how staying humble and allowing God to lead will result in the ultimate victory, a peaceful and fulfilling life.

I received my copy of Quiet Strength from the hands of Coach Dungy himself on the day the book was released in Atlanta, GA. The humble man from Jackson, MI was wearing the Super Bowl ring as he handed me the autographed book.

This is an extremely well written book! I was a big fan of Coach Dungy from his Tampa Bay Buc days (I am a Buc and Jaguar fan) and because like him I ended up in Indiana about the same time that he moved up here, I've followed his career up here--but this book unveals so much about the man and how his faith helps him to interpret the events of his life--both the good and the bad.

What many people would consider insignificant events, Coach Dungy helps the reader to reevaluate and to see in their correct light. I think anyone who reads this book will come away a better person than they were before they read the book--truly a mark of a great book, but also a mark of the quiet strength that motivate Tony Dungy!

This is an inside look at a life that honors God. It doesn't matter if you believe or not, you can relate to the struggles and triumphs of Tony Dungy's life. The leadership exhibited and the decision making processes are great examples to follow. Even if your are just an NFL fan it is fun to get a behind the scenes tour of a high profile coach and his journey to the Superbowl.

As I stated this is avery good book, but it is not a great book. It rambles on and on. I would have liked to known more about the inner challenges of coaching during his last year at Tampa and his Suber Bowl run. It is worth the money, and it is an enjoyable, laid back read.

Outstanding and inspirational book. An easy read that gives great insight about the person and life. A great book for all to understand life, relationships, family, and friends. Also provides some insight about the unpersonal side of professional sports. I read the book and gave it as a gift to five others men. I would have purchased more if I could have afforded to. The most inpsiartional book I've read in years.

I actually was a little disappointed in this book. I was hoping to learn more about what it takes to be a Christian and leader than to be a football coach. Many times through out the book, Dungy relates a story and you start thinking "okay, now he'll tell me how his faith helped him" but instead he'll finish the story by saying something like "I guess it was God's plan" or something to that effect. Basically, what you get from the book is that you have no control over anything and that whatever happens, just trust that it's what God wants. I guess that's fine, but I was hoping for something a little more inspirational.

The book also talks a lot about his coaching experiences in Tampa Bay and Indy. Since I'm not a fan of either of those teams, I really didn't care about the "behind the scenes" information.

To me, this book is more about a guy coaching two football teams than an inspirational leader. I still have a lot of respect for Dungy, but could have passed on this book.

There is nothing special about this book. I was curious what I'd think of it, given that I am not a Colts fan and am not religious. Despite assurances that it would be worth reading anyway, I wouldn't give somebody else the same recommendation.

It is not a bad book, however. For a football fan, there are recollections from Dungy's career -- ranging from being a bit player to coaching the Bucaneers to coaching the Colts. Also, the "life lessons" certainly are valid -- they're just not anything an adult shouldn't already know.

(For what it's worth, I don't tend to read many sports bios, despite being a sports fan, or any self-help books. Quiet Strength may in fact be better than most examples of both genres, but it simply does not live up to the acclaim it has received, in my opinion.)

Overall, a well written book. Would be more interesting for folks who love football. I am not a football fan so found myself skipping over a lot of it to get to the 'practices of a winning life'. Tony and his family are well-grounded in their spirituality and family values. A so-so book.

I feel kind of bad because I really like Dungy and I *really* wanted to like this book. But I kept waiting for this book to say something that's not totally predictable, and I'm done waiting. I feel like I could have written this by (a) getting a copy of his resume and (b) knowing that he's a Christian. There's just not much to this one, and that's not saying anything about Dungy, who by all accounts is a great guy. But not all lives of great guy make for great books, and that's the case in this one.

The bait: The cover photographs, title, subtitle, back cover, and book flaps, all of which benignly indicate the book's about Dungy's football coaching style as he believes it can be applied to life. The switch: "We are blessed and privileged to write the foreword to a book that truly represents the power of God and the rewards of obedience to God's Word," the first line in the atrociously written foreword by Pauletta and Denzel Washington. Until this, the reader has no way of knowing this book pushes an evangelical Christian agenda. Should the reader already know Dungy's religion?

For shame! I blame Tyndale Publishers for this. I also blame them for allowing this cobbled together book to go to press before it was ready. It was started after the February 2007 Super Bowl and was released in July 2007--way too short a time to produce a good book.

Because of this, I wanted to assign QUIET STRENGTH one star but I upped it to two because it DOES contain some redeeming/thought provoking ideas:

*"I know I can have blanket rules, but blanket rules don't always fit every individual. I need to treat everybody fairly, but fair doesn't always mean equal."

*"The truth is that most people have a better chance to be uncommon by effort than by natural gifts. Anyone could give that effort in his or her chosen endeavor, but the typical person doesn't, choosing to do only enough to get by."

* "I knew that I had made the wrong decision. Just because a decision is deliberate doesn't mean hindsight won't make it clearer. And walking closely with the Lord, trusting Jesus, and looking to the Bible for guidance doesn't guarantee that we'll always make the right decision."

I don't doubt Dungy is a man of principle. Obviously his publisher hasn't adopted his principles.
