I enjoyed the story and character developments within this book. Was a little dissappointed with the ending. The characters you followed through the book seem to be left out of the climax. And it just ends suddenly. Overall a very good read, the ending was just weak.

Decent start to a fantasy series. Probably not enough that I am desperate to keep reading the series, but good enough that it kept my attention to the end- which isn't always the case with the free kindle books!

As a written review is required to rate the book, all I have to say is its a great read. This was an original story, which for some reason can be tough for fantasy writers. I will buy the next book in the series

Although I have read everything-especially free books, garage sales, and library tosses. BUT I haven't been able to follow this book. The Hobbit, and Lord of the Rings (dwarf songs included) were easier to follow for story plot, characters, and subject. Perhaps if you have time to reread each page twice then MAYBE you will enjoy it.

I HAVE JUST FINISHED READING THIS BOOK I FOUND IT A BIT SLOW AND OVER ALL
HARD TO READ, BIT I PERSISTED AND THE ENDING WHICH I THOUGHT WOULD BE
THE CLIMAX TO THE STORY WAS VERY WEAK ANS DISAPPOINTING.
I WOULD NOT CHOIOISE TO GET THE NEXT VOLUME
GIVE IT A GO BUT FOR ME I COULD ONLY GIVE IT 3 STARS

Certainly not what I was expecting for a free book with 1 review. But, I gave it a day ( or 3) in court and was not disappointed. I already added the sequels to my wish list. Grab it up while you can!

I agree with the other reviews, good book from the beginning. Great characters that develop well. My only issue was the rather abrupt ending. Not wanting to give it away, I ended the book with a "that's it?". But, still a great book.

Awesome Book! I love how the main characters are so close even though they are so different. The close bonds they share with one another and their determination to do whatever it takes to keep their promise regardless of how difficult and hopeless it seems at times. The action starts with chapter one and you're captivated until the end not wanting it to end. Book 2 can not come out soon enough for me!!!! I Highly recommed this book. Right up there with the Harry Potter and Twilight series!!
Great job Valerie, please keep them coming!!!

I only remember reading books similar to this genre, when I was much younger, and though they were not as detailed and deep as this book, they were still, "pretty cool" and I especially loved the books that gave the reader the option at the end of the page, "If you want to do this, turn to page....." or "If you want to do this, turn to page...". Remember those? They were so cool, and fun because you could turn the book into whatever you wanted! Well, this book is nothing like that, lol, I was just remembering how much I enjoyed those, and how the fantasy books were never a genre I really read as often as I apparently should have.
This specific book has definitely enlightened me, and now I am anxious to catch up on other books, just so I can read Book #2!
The whole story, the characters, the writing, the action, the mystery, the location, so imaginative and so well described and detailed that I could see the Island Shifters and everything, battles and all, along their journey! (This is my favorite part of books, any that allow you to escape for a while, and this is one of the best!)
Not to many adjectives, so many that is bores you and confuses you, but just the proper and perfect amount! What a fascinating imagination, Valerie Zambito, has and I appreciate her taking the time to share it and write this book! (Very few books in my 38 years of life, have ever led me to want to shake the hand of the author and say, "Thank you for sharing a piece of your imagination!")
Magical places, magic, forests, and the Island Shifters, transforming into animals, dwarfs, elves, all that fun stuff that you may have enjoyed reading about as a kid, comes at you in a whole new way! yes, adults can get lost in Fantasy worlds too;)
This was a fun book, I especially thought the way the words were written in the book itself, was the perfect addition! The cover is very interesting in itself, and will be enough to want to start reading, and it was filled with so much action, and had a real genuine story behind it. the characters were simply divine, and you certainly feel as if you know them well.
I recommend this book for any age, (my almost 9 year old son is actually enjoying this story right as we speak, with a little help from mom;)

Island Shifters by Valerie Zambito is a strong start to a fantasy series. Magic is an inborn talent, but it is one that is shunned and leads to banishment. These shifters are charged with being the first line of defense of their home countries, even if almost no one remembers the reason for it.
The introduction to the magical system is pretty interesting. There seem to be four major kind of shifters each with a specialized form of magic. There are fire, earth, mind, and body. There are more things revealed later in the book and it is set up to reveal a lot more in the follow ups.
There is some romance involved though it remains more of a background thing than a major plot point. The interactions between the characters are a fairly strong point of this book. I really enjoy the way that Rogan and Airron lighten the mood in some places with their banter and pranks. Bajan is also an amazing character, though I think it is the idea of him more than a personality thing.
The pacing of the book is pretty decent for the most part. There were a few parts where I thought things slowed down and it seemed like the characters did some things I had trouble reconciling with their overall personas.
This is a strong start to a fantasy series and I'm curious to see where the rest of the books go. Strong recommendation to fans of traditional quest based fantasy stories, easily enjoyed by most people who like fantasy in general.

Island Shifters: An Oath of the Blood was the first shifter book I had read. From the synopsis and the main character's ages, it seemed like it was going to be a young adult book, but it wasn't. Since I'm not used to reading adult books, it started off a little slow, and it took me a while to read. I'm glad I stuck it out and finished it because it was definitely worth it. Once I got into the story, it sucked me into the pages and I didn't want to leave. The plot, although a little confusing at first because I knew nothing about shifters, was well written. The characters were also well developed. My favorite character was Bajan. I liked how loyal he was, not only to Kiernan, but to the rest of the group of Savitars as well. I also thought it was cool how Kiernan and Bajan communicated telepathically. The final battle was heartbreaking. I cried when one of the characters died. I must admit, I wish the final battle would have been a little longer. An Oath of the Blood was a great book that I definitely suggest checking out. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. I recommend this book for fans of shifter, paranormal, or fantasy novels.

From this book's first paragraph, I was hooked until the very end. Valerie Zambito sure has a way with words. While reading Island Shifters, I was smiling one minute and then the next minute I was on the edge of my seat, reading as fast as I could because something crazy was happening! It's not often (especially since I had my son) that I actually pick up a book and finish it shortly after. It usually takes me months to even get through half, but that was definitely not the case with this book.
I love paranormal stories and Island Shifters definitely took me along for the ride, and what a wild unthinkable at times, adventure it was. I can't wait to read Island Shifters (Book Two)

I was just recently introduced to Valerie and her books. The first book I ever read was fallan and I loved it, I can't wait til the next one comes out! Then a family member of Valerie's bought be book one of the island shifters for my birthday and had it autographed by Valerie herself ( a very awesome thing for sure )...I couldn't put it down, now I'm ready to continue the trilogy of the island shifters! Not only is Valerie a talented writer she's also local which makes it easier to get the series autographed lol

I recently finished reading Island Shifters (Oath of the Blood, Book 1). It was definitely a page turner! The characters are well defined, the settings are quite imaginative and the plot keeps you wanting to read more. Valerie Zambito's extensive vocabulary and descriptive phrases make this a "must read" for the summer. I'm looking forward to delving into the next book in the series: Island Shifters (An Oath of the Mage, Book 2)to find out what happens next!

I really enjoyed this unique book. I haven't read anything quite like it but I am excited to read more. I figured this story would take multiple books to finish but it was concluded in this one. I am not sure what else is going to happen to the group but the author did such a great job I am looking forward to finding out.
