This was a very interesting and mind opening account of the Indian Geronimo. Since it was in his own words, it gave a very different view of the 'wild west' than previous accounts. Quite interesting.

Have not completed this book. My interest in Geronimo is personal: Written record shows my paternal grandfather befriended G. at a time when he and his few surviving warriors were starving, shortly before their capture. The events of brutality were not one-sided, even though history made it sound as though they were.

Geronimo. Anything related to the Original American population is of great interest to me. Above all, I would recommend " I'll Fight No More Forever" about Chief Joseph, who I believe wrote the book.
and the Captive Boy Who Started the Longest War in American History :: and Redemption of Stonewall Jackson - The Violence :: Texas Ranger - Three Years Among the Comanches - The Narrative of Nelson Lee :: The Epic Story of Kit Carson and the Conquest of the American West :: Comanches: The History of a People

I read this book because I was always intrigued in reading and learning about the greatest apache who ever lived. I learned much in this book in his own words on how he lived, how he fought, his beliefs, etcetera. I recommend the reading to people that are interested in learning about our native Americans.

The Apache nation is perhaps my most favorite culture. I wrote a Master's thesis many long years ago on them, and they remain in first place. Given enough braves I'll bet we could protect our Southern borders. The book was written 109 years ago, and is still compelling.

I found this book very interesting regarding Geronimo's personal accounts of his life in the Apache tribes and in captivity. Filled in a lot of information I'd never have known otherwise. Recommended.

The fact that is said directly from culture. So when the words are what that subject are as he say it from his perspective .There is much in the book to learn from ( especialy that is an easy read and 120 pages, some of which are illustrations)

Great book--One of those auto-biography's that rings really true and says how they lived and managed to survive. The American and Mexican Army's were put in the light of how they really did react and treated the Comanche Indians. Shamefully--

I WAS SURPRISED WHEN I FOUND THAT HE HAD ACTUALLY RECORDED THE HISTORY OF HIS OWN LIFE. I ALWAYS ADMIRED WHAT I KNEW OF HIM AND AFTER READING HIS STORY, I HAVE EVEN GREATER ADMIRATION FOR THIS MAN. AS SO MANY OTHER IRONIES OR OUT RIGHT LIES THROUGH OUT HISTORY, YOU LEAVE THIS BOOK WITH A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT OPINION AS TO WHO WERE THE REAL "SAVAGES" IN THE FRONTIER.
EVERY CHILD IN AMERICA SHOULD HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK BEFORE THEY GRADUATE HIGH SCHOOL !!!

Great background on Geronimo and the Apache wars, history and tactics. Also nice insights to Geronimo's personal motivation and rise to war chief. If you love First Nations history this is a must read

The story that Geronimo war chief tells is a gift from the true understanding of the ancient warrior of indignious America. Told at the end of his life as a Christian man we are reminded that no one truly succeeds in war. Not for the faint of heart. A cultural must read.
