This book was very technical in language. It would be difficult for someone who had no knowledge of human biology. It was also extremely helpful. The authors ideas made perfect sense. I have used some of the suggestions and they have worked for me.

Informative
This book was very informative and explained in detail the difference between acid reflux and low stomach acid and how they have the same symptoms and gave ways to deal with low stomach acid problems --written in easy to read format and print

This book is written that an average non-medical person can understand the function of the stomach. I only wish that I had read this book much sooner than I did! It has helped me to understand what my specialists haven't been able to explain to me. I am now following suggestions and have found another doctor who is able to properly treat my condition. I don't think I would of ever reached this end without reading this book. It's a must read for people with acid redlux, heartburn, gerd and other stomach issues.

I came to know about this book through my doctor. I have been on a quest to alleviate some of the migraines that I have been having and my doctor recommended starting by understanding my digestive system and what anti acids can do to your system. I had been on anti acids for close to two years and I always thought it to be a harmless drug. This book taught me otherwise. Since reading it, I followed the steps to get off of anti acids and I am feeling a whole lot better!

This book confirmed what I already knew, which was to get of the medications that Doctors so readily prescribe good info on Tums and Drug Companies. What the book lacks is enough info on how to get off the drugs..

Eye openning facts about modern medications for acid blockers which creates lot more problems than it solves. Since then I have stopped taking all PPI drugsmy doctor prescribed for me and learned how to control my stomach acidity naturally.

Well my stomach is not very good , occasionally i used to get stomach upset either gas or something. I tried Prilosec for couple days (3-4) days and problem will go away for 2-3 months. I am not a pill lover person. In last couple months even after having prilosec for couple days the problem came within a month. this is when i showed to a gastro doctor and my doctor suggested me to continue prlosec for 14 days. After 14 days i got such a terrible problem that i had to rely on Tums . this is first time i got 2 tums large pack one in office and one in home and it become so worse that i had to have tums every time. This is when my doctor scheduled for me a Endoscopy and it came that i had h Pylori bacteria. This is when i purchased this book. Though doctor prescribed me antibiotics which i got in 5$ with my copay. But instead i paid 32$ in the store to buy 2 Jarrow Formulas Mastic Gum 500, 60 Capsules

And when i started reading this book explained me why i become victim of Prilosec and why i needed Tums and what will happen if i continue Tums. Also this book answered why my father in law who is in tums for 3-4 years got a kidney stone. why my mother B12 deficiency could be actually cause of asthama.

This book is very important to understand how stomach works , i actually ordered a hard copy to keep it for life . So far after having mastic gum , my stomach is very good. My motions are regular and timely. Also after taking mastic gum , i can feel my stomach . So far i have not touched any antibiotic. I think i will have mastic gum every 6 months to keep stomach conditioned.

Highly rated by my clinical nutritionist. If a person has taken acid blockers for an extended period of time it's a must read. The downside is the authors try to overemphasize a point and the book gets a little boring.

Anyone with acid-reflux or any stomach disorders should read this enlightening book, especially those who have been on acid-suppressing drugs for any extended time. Everyone interested in maximizing the benefits of a good diet should know how the digestive system works since the loss of stomach acid can be responsible for malabsorption of valuable nutrients required for a healthy aging body. A very important book that everyone over forty should have on their nightstand

Great and easy to read, comprehensive with natural ways to treat heartburn. I started applying information to not start protonics right after reading the first couple of chapters and already have relief! I wish there was a way that our health providers didn't fall into the trap of pharmaceutical first.

Wright is semi-famous in the alternative medical world, and is so because of his solid approach to the science and treatment of his patients. While not a true Naturopath, he is focused mostly on natural and inexpensive methods of treating illness, as opposed to the usual allopathic method of simply suppressing symptoms.

I have had tests which show low stomach acid and have had considerable success with HCl supplementation, so I know that there is truth in what he says. While some people think that the only way to find what works is double-blind lab studies, there is much in nutrition which simply does not lend itself to that process. (See my review of Weston Price's "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration" for more details.) For these things, we must look to clinical and "anecdotal," and other evidence to try and create a reasonable picture of the situation.

Wright discusses not only his own considerable clinical success with the methods in this book, he also quotes the scientific literature, and makes a clear distinction in cases where there isn't significant research to be definitive. This book contains as much science as there is in this field, and given that the Pharmaceutical-industrial complex controlled research system is extremely unlikely to ever research this area (no patent medicine ripoffs waiting here), this is probably the best information available until some independent research can be funded.

The only things I found to be less than satisfactory were his blatant, ranting attack on milk and his acceptance of the whole cholesterol scam.

The "high cholesterol" thing has been completely and definitively busted as a pure scam, and has been documented quite clearly, even in the hard literature. The whole "lower you cholesterol" thing is a criminal enterprise whose only purpose is to bilk people out of tens of billions of dollars (unless you subscribe to the conspiracy theory that it is part of a plot to kill people off, which does bear some investigation, given how many of the big pharma companies have clear Nazi connections....). The millions of lives ruined and even ended by this blatant garbage should be triggering major murder investigations, but the money is just SO good........

I also have a problem with Wright's not knowing (or at least acknowledging) the radical difference between commercial, factory milk and real milk from properly treated cows (although there is a short footnote stating the difference between "lactose intolerance" and true milk allergy). There is significant evidence that most people (something on the order of 80 percent) who cannot tolerate/are allergic to factory milk do just fine with clean raw milk - indicating that it is not the milk that is the problem, but the processing which creates the "poison" he so vehemently attacks.

Wright needs to do more research in these areas to widen his knowledge.

Other than those two complaints, it is a very good book and well worth reading if you have digestive problems.

This is a persuasive explanation of why stomach acid is good for one. It cites evidence that heart-burn, indigestion, reflux, and GERD, are often caused by stomach acid that is inadequate, rather than excessive. Dr. Wright notes that diagnoses of excess stomach acid are usually presumptive, and are rarely verified by tests of actual stomach-acid production. The result is that physicians, and patients, usually treat these symptoms with acid-suppressors, which may relieve the immediate symptoms, but which degrade health in surprisingly diverse and significant ways, which include increased susceptibility to infectious diseases, dementia, and ulcers.

This book could revolutionize your life. I have read it twice and taken much of the advice. I plan to use it as a reference guide to regain my health. God knows the acid blockers aren't making me well. Much of what I have already done is helping.

I read this book because I think my husband suffers from low stomach acid. It has good information based on scientific observation. The one thing that irritated me was the numerous misspellings in the text.

My Grandmother would have been proud of Dr Wright. She always believed, that heartburn was caused by too little stomach acid. She would tell people to get some lemon juice or applecider vinegar to fix the problem.
There is an epidemic of asthma in Australia. As an ex-nurse, I saw whole families with this terrible problem. I have suggested to people to take lemon juice and pepsin, just as Dr Wright tells patients.Although he prescibes some wonderful supplements as well.
Also, we were brought up on raw milk, (from Grandma's farm) and this NEVER caused us any digestive upsets. When a few of my siblings and I left home, we started drinking processed milk (pasteurised)and some of my siblings got digestive problems too.
My husbands family were brought up on a farm and they always had raw milk while living at home, without any upsets. But 3 of the children developed asthma when having pasteurised milk on a regular basis, after leaving home.
