I have purchased this book 4 times-- yes, 4. First for my daughter, and then for each of her girlfriends' birthday. Girls have superpowers and gifts too! And this little board book introduces female heroines, some of whom I had never heard of. It would have been nice for them to include Nubia or a female superheroine of color-- but, it is still wonderful. I also have My First Book of Super Powers too (from the same series)-- and I read them together, so my twins get to see male and females saving the day. I have given this book alongside the DC Comics Girl Power Shirt https://www.the store.com/DC-Comics-Power-Sleeve-X-Small/dp/B018N9V3BE/ref=sr_1_1?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1470962162&sr=1-1&nodeID=1040664&keywords=wonder+woman+tshirt .

I bought this for one of my nieces because she's into that Disney Princess nonsense. I wanted to show her that girls could be Superheros too, instead of just some vacuous eye candy. Well, Wonder Woman, Batgirl, and Super Woman ARE eye candy, but they are also full of action packed feminist substance. I have the feeling this book went unread and tossed aside, much like my hopes for my niece developing into an empowered woman.

I bought this book as a Christmas gift for a 4 yo girl, and she loves it! It's a cute, easy to read book, but it has a good message. It's never too early! However, it could definitely be more diverse, both in terms of race and body type. I'd like to see more thought given to that in future editions.

This book is SOOO cute! I ordered it for Christmas for my daughter. What I thought was awesome was that the book ends with talking about "Super Mary" an ordinary girl who still is super. I didn't special order the book, but its cute because my daughters name is Mary!

All the boys at school had superheros to emulate, not my daughter. We were going to a superhero party and she knew no one to emulate. This book was awesome to giver her some role models. Now she rotates who she pretends to be and makes her dad batgirl on occasion. Wonderful wonderful wonderful!!

These heroines are a bit too sexy for a preschool book in my opinion but the story is fine (if simplistic) and my daughter likes it. I guess objectification is just par for the course under patriarchy.

The book is so cute, it's perfect for my friends baby shower Sunday which has a Wonder Woman theme. I ordered one book, thinking $6 wasn't bad. When it arrived there were two books, I figured they accidentally gave me two. I checked my the store account, and sure enough not only was I charged for two, but I was charged $15 shipping for the $6 book. I never would have paid more than twice the mo eye of the product to ship it,Mao I'm not sure how that happened. So overall the $6 book I wanted came to something like $42. As I said though, the book itself is good quality and very cute, and shipping was fast albeit very expensive.

This was a baby shower gift. I also bought the other DC Super Heroes books. The Dad loves super heroes so it went over well. Of course all the women at the shower loved that this was "Girl Power". These are very nice board books withe vivid colors.

This book is adorable! I bought is as a gift for my 18-month-old niece. What a great idea it is to introduce young girls to the Super Heroines they can be from an early age! I know she will love being read to from the bright, colorful pages and my sister (the mother) will appreciate the message and the fact that it contains many DC comic Heroines. The illustrations are just as they appear online. There are 10 sturdy bored pages.

I was super excited to get a super hero book for my daughter about girl super heros. The book came failing apart. The front had parts peeling off, and the 2ND page was ripped down the seam. The corners looked like it was dropped a few times.
About the book itself. I wish there was one that wasn't all GIRL POWER, but one showing girls being super. It seems like they made a book and threw the girls in it so moms like me, who have daughters that like super heroes don't complain. Very lame compared to the other books like this one.

Decent toddler/baby book, but I was expecting an actual page turning book for my 4 year old. She loves women superheroes, so I jumped at the chance to get this for her. I didn't expect a simple cardboard book of only 8 or so pages.

This isn’t what I’d hoped. It was more like an advertisement for comics than it was about girl power. I actually felt sad after flipping through it as all the “girls” had the typical comic book type bodies & didn’t describe anything “kind” or “powerful” that could be applied to the life of a child. It’s an advertisement as far as I could tell. We gave it away.

Poor writing, simplistic art, and no story. You never get an idea of who the heroines are, what they use their powers for, how they obtained their powers, etc. Just a very weak book. The art is taken from an OLD comic book era. There are stupid sentences like, "Black Canary uses her sonic scream to protect people." Really? How? There are no panel sequences to show the heroines doing their thing. Just meaningless drawings of the characters against colors.
This MIGHT be ok for a baby to ogle. But toddlers will be bored to death.
Better superhero books for little ones:
1) Wonder Woman Classic: I Am Wonder Woman (I Can Read Book 2)
2) Super Friends: Flying High (DC Super Friends) (Step into Reading)
3) Super Hero Squad: Aliens Attack! (Passport to Reading Level 1)
4) Meet The Marvel Super Heroes
5) Marvel Super Heroes Storybook Collection

I ordered this book for my infant son. We have a few of the other DC board books and they're great. I was recommends this based on those purchases and I love it. As a woman I want my son to understand that girls are awesome, too. This does it in a way that treats the super heroines as if they were any other superhero, which I love because they are. The heroines featured aren't awesome because they're girls, but because they're awesome characters in general. That's the lesson I want my son to learn. It's an awesome book for this reason as well bright colors and obviously great illustrations. Great book for boys and girls.

My First Book of Girl Power promises to show girls how wonderful they can be, by introducing them to some of DC's iconic super heroines. Instead it gives us a few pages of different characters and a few lines of text about how great the character shown in.
So if you want your toddlers to learn about Raven's powers or Black Canary's sonic scream this might be the book for you, but if you want your daughters to learn about their own potential this book has nothing.
None of DC's handful of women of color are mentioned, the group is entirely white. I wonder if anyone even thought of including characters like the African-American heroine Vixen or Katana from Japan.
The art is bright and clean, and probably the book's best feature. But the book obviously just uses stock artwork from the 80s over generic backgrounds. It probably took about 15 minutes to lay the book out. The artists are not identified but I would guess most are done by Jose Garcia Lopez who did most of the artwork for DC's licenses in the 80s. If so
it certainly would have been nice to mention his name somewhere.
EDIT - Yes it was almost certainly his work, I found the cover image in this blog - http://grantbridgestreet1.blogspot.com/2011/11/jose-luis-garcia-lopez.html
A bit of rewriting could improve this book tremendously. For example when the author talks about Wonder Woman making people tell the truth young readers might be asked if they think it's good to tell lies. Instead of focusing on Black Canary's sonic scream, the author could have mentioned how she worked for years to be a great martial artist and prompt young readers to work hard, That's what I do when reading it to my girls. But DC didn't take that obvious step.
I've been a fan of DC for years, and that's why I picked up this book. But as a father I recognize the difference between a book that uses famous characters and one that's just an extended ad for them. This book unfortunately is just an ad for DC's stable of characters and is not worth your time or money.

I LOVE this book! My son has all of the other ones, so of course I had to get this too. I wish it had just a couple more pages since its so good, but the message it shares is perfect! I am so happy to be adding this to my son's book collection, and even happier that I can read it to my daughter as well!

My daughter (3) loves this book. We first checked it out at the local library and after reading it 100x in a week I decided to just buy it for my super girl. She has actually memorized the whole book now and "reads" it to me. This book does not correlate with the DC Super Hero Girls cartoon series, but it's a nice intro to many of the female DC super heroines.

Cute concept - but, if anything, the book highlighted the sexist tendencies I was trying to avoid. The female characters have "super" powers like being "really nice." More a Marvel issue than the book, but I wouldn't have bought it had I known how much less interesting the super powers of female characters are.

My three year old granddaughter loves superhero books. I read this one to her at a little bookstore but I didn't buy it because I had already bought enough books.
We then went out to lunch and my granddaughter made a remark about the waitress.
"Mommy, she's smart."
My daughter thought this was kind of random but I told her she just read a book about a "smart" superhero. Already my granddaughter had processed this connection, smart-woman.
I'm buying this book.

My daughter likes
This book but I think the message that girls are powerful only when dressed like these girls (skimpy, skin tight) is not a good message to send! Also I wish there was a little more body diversity in the book

Sad. Would have LOVED the idea..but felt sick that girls can't seem to be powerful unless in spandex, sexy poses with six-packs and 14" waists?
I'm not saying they have to change the iconic brand of Wonder Woman --its just that I want my daughter to feel powerful without looking like a stripper (because she IS courageous and smart and hard working and kind). The cover of this book sends a message to children that it is sexuality that gives girls power (a sad message..women who only have that often have no real power at all). I am often creeped out by the skimpiness of the WonderWoman outfits they sell for little girls--I'd buy one if they didn't show so much skin but it's not appropriate for a child (yes, I also noticed they're all white).

This book is wonderful! My 4 year old daughter is taking it with her everywhere. It includes some super heroes I have never even heard of before (Mera and Mary?). Beautiful color pictures, bold colors, overall great for little girls (and boys)!

I bought this for my daughter, the pages have bright colors that are good to keep the attention of young children. I love the meaning of the book and I’m glad that I added it to her board book collection.

No, no, no. While it touches vaguely on standing up for what's right, and admits that Batgirl is smart, Girl Power here consists primarily of having Jane Russell's tits, abs of steel and superpowers. Your little girl's perfectly good body, brain, and abilities have no power. Great message if you want her to grow up utterly powerless and feeling inferior. A totally burnable book.

Nice that it exists but the writing is disappointing. Each character specializes is helping out and protecting, but not really being especially brave or badass as I was hoping. Granted I think helping out and being a safe haven for people are great woman strengths, we can also be leaders and strategists and intimidate evil-doers! Book left me feeling a little oppressed actually.

This book reinforces many stereotypes about women, including many contradictory ones. Like women can be "awesome" and have "power" so long as they look pretty doing it. This is very typical of third wave feminism...it says "girl power" with a short skirt and no real political message.

What a bunch of ridiculous garbage. Spend your time/money teaching little girls what really makes them powerful and special. These characters are created and drawn by men, meant to be sexual objects and as anatomically incorrect as barbie dolls. Don't buy this rebranded nonsense, and don't teach your daughters that they should admire any of it.
