Loved the character development and the new character was a great addition. Brings new meaning to home is where the heart is and opens the door for a host of new adventures. Can't wait to get my paws on the next book!

This author captures the imagination early and never lets it go, as she has done with every one of the books in this series. As always, the writing is tight and she makes you care about the characters, even when the characters aren't people as we would recognize them. After all that she has been through, I would like to see the main character grow up a little. She can't always be the damaged foundling from the streets and keep my attention, but that is just a personal preference The book itself is very good and I await the next one impatiently.

I liked the characters and the emotional impact of this book. Kayla is one of the best made characters in all of
fantasy genre. It isn't the last of the series but it could have been. Will be hard to top.

I nearly read this book straight through in one sitting. Unfortunately, I had to eat, sleep and work too. It's hard to describe this book without giving too much away, so you'll just have to read it to find out what happens. I will say that maybe Kaylin finally finds someplace she can call home.

Brilliant writing as usual. The only downside is, I had to wait for this book to be released and it was so riveting I couldn't put it down. When I got to the end I screamed in frustration at having to wait again for the next book. I love this series and it has never let me down. Thank you Michelle xx

A great new chapter in Kaylin's story. Wonderfully written diverse characters. Many different species on one planet, all trying to get along (or Not.) And Kaylin is stuck in the middle of it as usual.

Freaking awesome! What else could you expect from this series. Already having a blast teasing my brother with snippets since he's a slow reader. Took a different turn than I expected from where the last book left off but it was a smooth transition and as usual fascinating.

not finished yet but oh sh***t - should have called in sick - starved for Kaylin. At 47% and I met most of my favorite people together in one book. wow. this so far gives the banter & some answers, but most of all I feel who these people are. if you like Elantra - run & get your fix. this one is a re-re-reading-never-letting-you-go book, so far. s^&&&t when's lunch?

I’ve devoured this series for years, impatiently waiting for each book to be released. Something about the characters and the story keeps me coming back for more. And they have dragons. . .need I say more?
I find myself struggling to write this review. There's just too much detail to capture to do it justice. In this book, Kaylin continues to work as a Hawk and take magic lessons at night...that is when she's not getting into trouble. The barrani she recused from West March have been changed by its wild magic. As they attempt to assimilate to the new world, chaos follows in their wake. Their presence awakens a dormant magic that's both deadly and dangerous. Kaylin and her friends race against time to solve the mystery, but the ancient evil won't be stopped without a fight.
I loved learning more about this world, it's unique and exciting, and while this book introduced some new elements, the normal freshness seemed missing. There wasn't really a mystery or murder to solve until late in the book. And while dragons take flight and join the battle, parts of the story were overtaken by too much technical details and repetition. It destroyed the flow and dragged out what should've been great action scenes. Unfortunately, I had the same problem with the last book. A good fifty pages or more could've been cut without missing anything and created a much stronger book.
I adore all the characters, especially Kaylin and Severn, but I'm a romantic at heart and anxiously wait for them to take their relationship to the next level. And become disappointed all over again when nothing happens. Overall, I enjoyed the amazing storytelling and fascinating world. Despite the problems, I'm emotionally invested in these characters, so while I will read the next book, I don't see myself pre-ordering them anymore.
