A Tale of Three Kings is a very thought provoking book for any Christian who is frustrated with leadership. Leadership in their church isn' the only place Christian leaders are. This book speaks into the lives of people trying to lead their family, work or just about any other place.
I highly recommend this book to husbands, fathers and lay leaders.

It is very hard sometimes as Christians, to have to deal with other "Christians" very negative actions, words, and behaviors. This book will make you think about how to react to those certain situations. But, I would suggest to take book for what is was "a book" and use it as a tool rather than "the word". There are somethings where my opinion differs from Mr. Edwards, but overall a quick and easy read.

I was anticipating a career transition. A good friend recommended that I read this book. Edwards' writing was a source of great comfort to me. I loved the biblical application, and it seems as though God were "speaking" directly to me through A TALE OF THREE KINGS.

The Prisoner in the Third Cell is an interesting read by Gene Edwards. I read this book after I had read A Tale of Three Kings. I don't know if Prisoner in the Third Cell was written as well as A Tale of Three Kings, but it's got a really good message. Gene Edwards' revelation of scripture is profound and practical, not to mention challenging. This book is definitely worth the read.

Excellent easy-read study in how to not control others and release others in forgiveness. It's the Biblical story of King Saul, King David, and Absolom, David's son. Real food for thought in achieving your own freedom. Great food for deep.

The author does a great job of comparing and contrasting the character and the lives of Saul, David, and Absalom. The book is not a book of Bible facts, but it is a book that challenges its reader to consider his/her own character and how God might be developing that character over time and through circumstances.

Incredibly powerful story by Gene Edwards. This year I suffered the trauma of losing my daughter to cancer. I begged and pleaded to God for healing, but it never came. And I'll never know why. This book was a God-send as it awakened me to the compassion of God in our suffering world.

If you or someone you know feels that God has turned his ear away from your prayers, read this.

Great points on how we all struggle with. Maintaining a broken and contrite heart to serve our Lord regardless of what our eyes may see and our flesh feels.

Particularly liked the way King David refused to divide God's Kingdom as that is the devils main tactic. David recognized its God's Kingdom and. It his so he would trust God and not his own thinking.

A very difficult book for all but the most surrendered believer in the way of Christ Jesus. This book pushes the limits on what God asked the 'greatest of all of these' to do, yet he was not offended. Could we go this far for the Lord if we were clearly asked to make so complete a sacrifice? You will come face to face with this question as you near the final pages of The Prisoner in the Third Cell.

Likely the best book for anyone entering occupational ministry. This book uses David as an example through his years of serving and suffering King Saul. And the second portion of the book teaches the great lessons with King David being the "old" king and how he dealt with Absalom as his young son aspired to be king.

This book allowed me to navigate a spiritually abusive leader. it offers hope and practical biblical advice to maintain your own integrity when you are being attacked. It helps provide courage to honor while staying healthy yourself.

This historical fiction addresses a serious problem of abusive authority in the church. I can see why it is considered a classic of writing and spiritual insight, but I couldn't get by two assertions that I consider to be potentially harmful. The first is his statement that no one can tell who is the Lord's anointed and who is not. I agree with him that only God truly knows a person, but what about Matthew 5:16 where Jesus told us how to identify false prophets disguised as harmless sheep and commanded us to do it. In Revelations 2:2 the resurrected Jesus praised the church at Ephesus: "You have examined the claims of those who say they are apostles but are not. You have discovered they are liars." The other assertion that I considered to be bad advise was his recommendation that in the face of abusive leaders do absolutely nothing. Get out of the way. Let God act. I can imagine that this may be the right thing to do in some instances, but in Revelations 3:20 Jesus told a church "I have this complaint against you. You are permitting that woman - that Jezebel who calls herself a prophet - to lead my servants astray. In III John the apostle John identifies and essentially replaces Diotrephes. I am sure that the Jezebel and Diotrephes would prefer that we do nothing, but Jesus and John had other ideas.

I really enjoyed this book because it makes the believer ponder the state of their own hearts. Are you really all that you think you are? And the book also illustrates what it truly means to be an effective leader, why and how to submit to authority, and what it truly means to be a broken vessel before God.

I recommend it :-)

Provides a very good, informative study of the life characteristics of Solomon, David and Absolom, and how their individual characters affected the entire country.
Good book for everyone - teenagers, parents, church leaders.

Edwards does a great job of using 3 biblical kings to describe our personal struggles in leading.
I highly suggest this book to anyone who leads in any capacity. It's a quick, easy, but poignant read!

This book catches you by surprise with sobering truths about our hearts when they are tested by submission to bad leadership. Written partially as a drama and partly as advice from a mentor, it engages you and then slips in truth. These truths are not easy to swallow, but they are solid wisdom.

The author walks through the real issues of the heart regarding leadership. From preparation for leadership, acquiring positions of leadership, to passing on authority of leadership he masterfully penetrates the inward struggles by giving them a voice though dialogue. This is a must read for all desiring to lead.

This is an excellent little book. I downloaded it free for my Kindle and was glad I chose it. It is short and easy to read. I finished it in a few hours. Even though it is fictional, the descriptions and details would probably accurately describe the life and times of John. I highly recommend this book.

This book is a must read for any serious Christian. The story is amazing and Gene Edwards is a master story teller. I have read several of his books and each time I am amazed by the depth of inspiration he is able to put in such a small book. This is a life changing book.
