good information but very redundant: JUST GET TO THE POINT!!! Perhaps i am simply impatient, but I really just want the facts. The science behind it is all very interesting and valuable to have and understand, but it went a bit too far. It read like a marketing tool, which I suppose it is...

Reading this book is very hard. I wanted answers - not a research book I would have to study. I am going to try and scan it for real information that would give us an answer. Evidently you have to be seeing this Dr. in person to figure to receive any guidance. Buy this book if you love reading medical research - otherwise - pray for the Cliff Notes version.

This book was recommended by my family doctor - I found it packed with good medical information and tips for improving your health. My major complaint is that it doesn't address that we have genes from two parents, - if one parent has a poor medical history doesn't mean that we are doomed.

Drs. Bale and Doneen advocate for a new paradigm in tackling cardiovascular disease - our number one cause of death in the U.S. is from heart attacks and stroke. The usual method is to treat risk factors in everyone and hope for the best, but then put in a stent or do a bypass if problems occur. The new Bale - Doneen method looks for atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) and prevents it from occurring in the first place.
Healthy diets such as the Paleolithic, Mediterranean, DASH, and the Whole Food Plant Based diets all can help prevent atherosclerosis. Medications targeted to patients with evidence of atherosclerosis makes much more sense than putting virtually everyone on medication who has a risk factor.
Read this book to gain an understanding of your individual risk, and find a physician who understands the Bale - Doneen method.

I am absolutely sold on the Bale/Doneen method to prevent heart attack, stroke and diabetes. I have attended their preceptorship and have applied this knowledge to my practice. The book is setting forth a true pioneering, medically counter-cultural approach to prevention. As a practitioner I have been able to apply this to take my practice to a whole new level of prevention. As we have recently seen in a number of recommendations that have come done we are headed in the wrong direction. This book will help to empower the general public to have a better control over their healthcare. I'm afraid there are not going to be the physicians to give this kind of care. Anyone who reads the book it would certainly behoove them to contact Dr. Bale and Amy Doneen to find a physician in their area who is putting these principles into practice. I would greatly encourage my fellow colleagues to read this book and put it into practice. This is based on science in medicine. This is the way to save our healthcare system. Every health insurance CEO and business CEO needs to read this as well. Anyone who wants to live a healthy life needs to make this a must read book. Thank you Dr. Bale and Amy.

This is an excellent book with one major flaw: NO ANNOTATIONS! They have a Resources section for each chapter in the back of the book, but none of the scientific statements made in the body of the book are linked to any of the resources. VERY disappointing if one wants to use scientific references to convince his doctor to perform tests recommended in the book.

As someone who takes a proactive approach to heart health given my family history, I loved this book! It is a bit hard to follow but the information is pretty amazing! It has allowed me to have a very detailed conversation with my family physician about steps I can take to avoid the same scenario as my parents!

Dr. Bale and Practitioner Doneen have taken a complex medicine and put it into words that anyone can understand. No prior experience necessary. The easy to read account of their treatment method shows the lay person as well as the medical professional how to prevent heart attack, stroke and diabetes. And, you can see how it is possible to obtain a "clean bill of health" with conventional cardiac testing yet suffer from an 'event' weeks or even days later. It is a must read for anyone serious about evaluating their risk for heart attack, stroke or diabetes. This book will revolutionize the Standard of Care as we currently know it.

Disclosure: I am a cardiologist and lipid specialist.
Being provocative sells, no doubt. This book, written by doctors, bashes physician providers beginning in chapter one. The book goes on to replace decades of studies and peer-reviewed literature with "cherry-picked" data that, in some cases, has been proven to be wrong. I commend this book for attempting to empower people to take the reigns on their health, however please note that some of the practices encouraged in this book have been proved to not be helpful (i.e. taking over-the-counter or prescription Niacin for elevated lipoprotein A). KIF6 have been proven in multiple studies to not hold water when it comes to risk prediction. I'm all about personalized care and advanced testing when necessary, however why bother "looking under the rug" with the "top of the rug is absolutely filthy"? Stick to the science and know that most providers are doing their best. Approach them with questions and concerns and decide if you have confidence in their care. Contrary to this book's repeated assertions, physicians DO tend to know what the data and literature show when it comes to testing. They can do a much better job with nutrition counseling. But don't look at this book as the 'holy grail' as practical, affirmative lifestyle changes lead to affirmative results in your health outcomes. You do not require genetic tests to determine that you're a human and that exercising, not smoking, and eating mostly plants is very cardioprotective.

The Bale Doneen Method is the pinnacle of medical care and the ideal to which all healthcare providers should aspire. Brad and Amy's approach to disease prevention and management is brilliant and their book should be required reading by all healthcare professionals and anyone interested in leading a long healthy life.
