This book is pretty easy to read and understand but seems to cover the essentials points. It helps to read a few paragraphs and ponder over the ideas-at least this is what I did. I'm not really familiar with Buddhism so I can't comment the scholarly content but I like the book and don't regret buying it.

Thich Nhat Hanh writes so clearly of important things. Anyone desiring to grasp the essence of Buddhism as it relates to the Western world would do well to read anything by him. This book is particularly useful. And inspiring.

Not finished it yet, but find this authors writings easier to follow than that of the Dalai Lama. Many examples and analogies do help to explain things. He seems to have a deep understanding of life in many diverse ways. This helped me cope with some of my own issues. Well done.

Everything about this book is wonderful. It is simplicity and complexity in one book - making it the perfect yin and yang. Thich Nhat Hanh is such a powerful author, he explains this philosophy beautifully. I have given as a gift, recommended it, and reread many times.

Thich Nhat Hanh's presentation of the "basics" of Buddhism is a first-rate introduction to the essentials of this way of practice and faith. What distinguishes it from similar introductory treatments of Buddhism is its profoundly healing quality. The subtitle, "Transforming Suffering into Peace, Joy, and Liberation" could well have been the title. In the Buddhist tradition of both wisdom and compassion, it enlightens the mind and heals the heart. An excellent read for anyone who feels life's difficulty, whether Buddhist or not.

Thich Nhat Hanh is a wonderful author who writes about the Buddha's teaching in a beautiful and concise manner. I found the book a very valuable addition to my collection and would recommend to anyone looking into Buddhism or that is even a fan of Thich Nhat Hanh.

This is a really nice book, it is very insightful, and you can never stop learning. I wouldn't recommend this to somebody with no knowledge of Buddhism, and the story of the Buddha. However, anyone with basic knowledge of the life of the Buddha, would enjoy these teachings greatly.

This is really great for those, like myself, that would like to know about The Buddha in a nutshell version without delving too deep and getting confused. I read the whole thing and it is very enlightening. Check it out! It is definitely worth your time.

Master Thich Nhat Hanh expounds on traditional Buddhist doctrine in depth, informed by modern thoughts; he teaches the path of mindfulness as means of confronting the realities of pain, suffering and problem, nevertheless acknowledging that on the other hand we also experience joy, happiness, peace and love. The doctrines taught are traditional, but the application, the breadth and depth of insight are relevant.

My husband and I have been reading this aloud together. The information has been so healing and empowering. Mindfulness techniques to last a lifetime! We both wish we had found this information many years ago! The book is very well written and current.

This book provides refreshing insight into the main pillars of Buddhism and their practical applications in our personal lives to transform ourselves. Mr. Hanh isn't too philosophical nor too wordy, he doesn't bend the original message of the Buddha to fit a "new" vision of Buddhism as many present day authors on Buddhism do. He blends the original teachings and foundations of Buddhism with insights of his own, which clearly reveals he has trodden the path of Buddhism that he discusses. Mr. Hanh is credible, accurate source/commentary on teachings of Buddha and "points" the way just as Buddha intended to. Get this book if you are even remotely interested in Buddhism, this book serves as a good/credible overview of Buddhism for those new to the subject and also refreshing and meaningful for the advanced aspirant/student.

When I hear teachings, statements, quotes, what have you from Buddhist writing I have always liked them. I have been going to many changes over the last two years and my best friend (who happens to be Buddhist) recommended this to me.

This book on the teachings of the Buddha is explaining in simple and easy way yet it
contains the core of the teaching for the beginners who want to learn about Buddhism.
The book is written by a great Master, Thich Nhat Hanh, Vietnamese Buddhist monk,
who lives in France and runs a Buddhist community where one can learn to live life
with joy. His writing is particularly appealed to me because it is simple, precise
in explaining the teachings of the Buddha and it is focused on how one can related
to one's daily life. I stronly recommend to those who want to learn about Buddhism.

Thich Nhat Hanh writes with clarity; it is easier for me to understand his writings on Buddhism than any other author I've read. I have been interested in Buddhism for years, and I have read major parts of books by over a dozen authors on the subject, but Thay (as they call him) resonates with me best. "Heart of the Buddha's teaching" helps me deal with occasional depression and helps me stay balanced. He is a wonderful example of a compassionate person.

Great detailed overview of all of the major topics in Buddhism - both the ones westerners have heard of, like the four noble truths and emptiness, and ones that might not be as familiar like the trikaya (3 Buddha bodies/3 modes of being for a Buddha). If you read this, you'll become familiar with most of the major teachings, and not have to say things like "I've never heard of that, what are the 5 aggregates/skandhas?" any more.

Thich Nhat Hanh has a very deep understanding of all of these subjects, and is very good at explaining them in a way that will make sense to westerners.
