The depth of the storm light archives and the life Sanderson has breathed into this world cannot be praised enough. Sanderson’s storytelling is unparalleled in the genre and I believe we are all very fortunate to walk along side such a talented author throughout his very endearing universe. On to book 3!

Read it before Oathbringer. You should read it before Oathbringer as well as it connects some dots from the 2nd book to the 3rd book. The new character, Lift, is quite fun to follow. It's amazing and brought me right back into the world.

The character has been introduced in Words of Radiance and is a character I like a lot. It's a very short story, well encompassed with a very nice presentation and as other works from Sanderson, very well written.

I bought this book because the forward of Oathbringer recommended reading it. After reading it, I understand. It's a great read directly related to the Oathbringer book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it explained a couple things from Oathbringer. I loved reading it!

A welcomed and tasty hors d'oeuvre for those awaiting Oathbringer! Love the main character, Lift, and am curious what her future holds in the Stormlight Archives. As much as I love his characters (too many to name here) Sanderson outshines them all.

I love the Stormlight series but found myself rushing through this not because I was captivated but because I was hoping the meat for this story/character was just around the corner. Still worth a look but a briefer version may have been better.

Great book. Sanderson has definitely become one of my favorite authors, and possibly my favorite. I would also add that this Stormlight series has been my favorite of his writings that I have read so far, though I’ve only read a few others outside of this series. Having said that, this was a great book. I hugely appreciate that Brandon writes such great stories without needing to resort to graphic sensuality or overly crude content, yet still provides very real characters. This would be in contrast to George R. R. Martin works that are so trashy. As always, Brandon provides such clever plot schemes that aren’t clearly predictable, as well as quite fascinating characters. The main character in this one was unique in a number of ways; though for me, one of the things that makes Brandon’s writings so good is his ability to define characters that you can relate to. All of us have a bit of “Lift” going on, or maybe it’s just me? I always find his characters ultimately relating such profound perspectives from the lense of how they view the world around them. The only slight negative I might have regarding this book, would be that the ending felt a bit rushed and certain plot elements (details left off to prevent spoilers) felt a little anticlimactic. However, given the role of this book as relates to the series, and his goals stated in the postscript, I’m ok with that. I think he accomplished what he set out to do with this book. Now... I’m so ready for Oathbringer!!!! Can’t wait!!! Brandon, I totally love your stuff. :D

Interesting backstory that describes some character development from book 2 to book 3 of the storm light archive. However, the development of these minor characters in this short story is not necessary to understand the characters in Oathbringer. Fun read though if you have about 3-4 hours of free time.

AAAAGH. GIVE ME MORE!!! I love the world Sanderson is able to weave together. Probably my favorite sci-fi/fantasy author, he does not disappoint with this in-between installment meant to familiarize readers with certain characters before the third book is released. Will read again.

Fun short story about one of the minor but interesting characters introduced in previous books. Not unnecessary to follow the main books unless Lift becomes a more important character later on, but still worth reading.

Excellent novella that does a great job to flesh out an interesting character introduced in Words of Radiance. Sanderson is a master of world building and I hope that he continues to add supplementary pieces like this to his Cosmere.

In this novella, Brandon Sanderson expands on the story of Lift. Lift was first introduced in Words of Radiance as a young female who is seemingly a Radiant. Her powers seem to revolve around healing and making herself "slick", which she used to escape certain death from the man known as Darkness.

In this story Lift is bored with court life and seeks out adventure in a neighboring city. Lift will find herself learning more about her powers and more about Darkness, including who he really is. At roughly 200 pages, including the entire section from Words of Radiance, there is not much to the story. But there is a good postscript about why Sanderson wanted to write this.

Yes, read it, if you want to know more about Roshar.
