Seriously??? This woman is an English teacher?? And she thanks her editor?? Pretty great editor who doesn't know the difference between pored and poured (that's just the tip of the iceberg), doesn't catch numerous typos and grammar mistakes either. Probably one of her students. This confirms what I have suspected over the last 10 years; the reason virtually every single thing you read these days, whether it be in books, magazines, online, etc., is riddled with errors is because this generation is not being taught anything. However, I might have given the book 3 stars if I wasn't so dumbfounded when I got to the end and read the author's remarks. Believe it or not, I actually do feel bad sometimes when they write such humble and hopeful pleas for reviews and I know the book sucks but the English teacher thing just blew away all my sympathy. Meanwhile, it doesn't totally suck. It started out with kind of an interesting take on the story but it went downhill and not fast enough. It started to drag and, as is the difficulty with all stories involving magic, it became inconsistent and hard to stay invested. Leaving aside all the errors, the writing wasn't terrible and shows promise. Not that it's evidently an issue since she's cranking them out and probably has a huge following. It's all about standards and mine are quite a bit higher.

Loved the perspective of the story. The way Hennessey details solving the mystery about how and why Rumplestiltskin came to be, keeps the reader engaged. Her ability to portray each character as Hero, Villian and Victim helps the reader identify with each. Instead of rooting for one character, you find yourself rooting for them all.

I love fairy tale retellings and this one was remarkable. It was spellbinding. It had a great "twist" to the story that made this book and it's original tale come full circle
I look forward to more of her books!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this re-telling of the traditional fairy tale. The author focusses on the heroine and her quest to save what she cherishes most...her family. Aoife is a multidimensional character, possessing resoluteness, courage, intelligence, and compassion. As the story unfolds, Aoife never loses sight of who she is, despite the obstacles that befall her. The relationships that she forms, both with the Duke and the "little man", help guide her on her mission and give her the inner strength to continue to fight for her loved ones. No longer painted as a helpless a little girl, this main character, Aoife, is anything but helpless. Thank you for a wonderful perspective on this classic story.
