Bruce Lee was not only a great martial artist, but a man of great insight and ingenuity. His philosophy and influence was and still is followed by people from all walks of life from actors and musicians to athletes and devoted fans such as myself. This book is another great example of how we could apply Master Lee's knowledge and teachings to our daily lives. Long live the king of martial arts.

Bruce Lee was, and still is an inspirational figure. Bruce Lee's Striking Thoughts has less to do martial arts, and more to do with everyday life. He uses brief assertions to make powerful statements. Not only do I think about these for my life, but in my classrooms as well.

My mentor once told me if you purchase a standard paperback and get one solid idea from it the price was worth it.
I just finished the Preface and Introduction and I have gleaned that already.
That is not hyperbole.

Bruce Lee's concept of "emptying ones cup in order to understand/appreciate what's in another's cup" is what's missing in today's society. Everyone is trying to convince one another to come to "their" line of thinking instead of letting humanity come to it's own conclusion without being ridiculed for having a different philosophy.

The book reads like a high school girl writing poetry or a first year philosophy student trying to "sound" deep. This book is filled with tiny "snipets" of wisdom, but it's hard to read and often times the submission don't make any sense.

I bought this because I like Bruce Lee and philosophy and there were so many positive reviews on the store about this. The books contains countless, short, "aphorisms" or more realistically described, what appears to be any stream of consciousness snipet Bruce apparently ever wrote down or said. I read the first 40 pages but it was hard, like reading homework you have to force yourself to read. After that I skimmed the rest of the book. I'm going to give it away because I know I wont read any part of it again. I feel like I wasted my money. There is a feel to this collection, of someone trying to cash in on Bruce Lee and this also is uncomfortable, because there is really so little of substance to any of this writing. No disrespect intended to Bruce or Linda, yet I wonder if he would have wanted this published. I'm very disappointed.

This is a great book to understand and comprehend the way of life of Bruce Lee and how he perceived and incorporated a lot of great values in his everyday life. The book touches a lot of points of Bruce’s life, since his early career, his way through fame and late period, when he acquired maturity and perspective.
I totally recommend you read this book as a guide to understand self-awareness and to be more critic about the world around you.

An amazing little book that reveals much of Lee's oriental and occidental philosophical roots as well as his own original thinking on a wide range of topics. To me, the book seemed to represent Lee writing for his children's benefit, in that it has the flavor of a book a father might want to leave behind for his son. That style proves an excellent vehicle for Lee's consistently thought-provoking maxims and tightly written guidance for self-improvement. This isn't about martial arts, but about the art of life. I truly think this book was worth the money and that I'll find myself returning to it, especially since Lee efficiently organized his "Thoughts" into useful groupings, such as Adversity, Adaptability, Motivation, Goals, Faith, Love, Freedom, Marriage, and so on. A great book to spur some serious reflection, but also a tool for discovering your individual path to superior living. So good, I purchased a second copy for my daughter.

When Bruce Lee wrote the contents of this book, I don't think his concerns lay in the creation of a text which conforms to the institutionalised and narrow teachings of Universities which create narrow minded 'philosophers' - I believe his philosophy was exactly that - his - and it was his way of looking at the world and coping with it, which I might add couldn't have been far wrong looking at his achievements. If you are open minded and interested in the thinking and workings of the mind which created a true icon and hero... I suggest reading this book. It does not concern the futile questions often found in philosophy I am sure, but it concerns things that those of us who aren't philosophers can relate to - life, day to day problems. Worth a good read it if you have any interest in Bruce Lee and even if you don't.

Before finding this book I was unaware of Bruce Lee's work in Philosophy. I am a Phil major myself, and I found the balance of western and eastern thought refreshing. A lot of Philosophy is grouped in long wordy essays that make it somewhat a stratified ivory tower type of field. Lee's book is organzied in easy to read, simple koans, proverbs and sayings.
To one who has read a great deal of Buddhism, Pyschology, or Eastern thought, they may read a lot of what they may have already read. But this book doesn't disappoint, there are some quality nuggets in here. Bruce says much in few words, his eloquence can be stunning & profound.
Although I'm not really into martial arts or anything like that I always revered him in a certain light, in fitness, command, and eloquence.
Worth a read, I have new respect for Bruce Lee.

John Little has done it again. Distilling Bruce Lee's thoughts in this manner has resulted in a great reference on his philosophy. Examples include thoughts on "defeat," which is a path toward success and truth, according to Bruce. This can be applied to a martial artist competing in a tournament, a business person fired from his or her job -- virtually any endeavor. The book is full of similar thoughts, which, if studied and considered carefully, can help anyone find a more fulfilling and peaceful path through life.

Whether or not you study JKD or anything similar, it doesn't matter...you will keep on continuing to learn from one of the most influential people of our lifetime. This book doesn't have "the answer" per say. But neither did Bruce, as he said...he is only a guide...it is up to us to find our own truth, our own "way". So to the people that get this book. Just read it, and move on...keep moving.

I have owned this book for several years now, and still flip through it from time to time. More then anything else, this is a collection of Bruce's random thoughts and observations compiled into one book. A majority of the thoughts are Zen/Taoist/Buddhist in nature, and when I first read them they really opened up my eyes and broke me out of my boring existence I once lived in. People that don't appreciate the martial arts and/or Buddhist philosophy might find some of his thoughts a little out there and useless to them. All in all, for the price, you can't beat this book.

Here's an encyclopedia of personal development advice from an unlikely source. While most people may be attracted to Bruce Lee because of his movies or the legend he left behind, I'm more impressed by his courage and compassion. John Little did a great job editing this treasure. I'd recommend it to any man that I thought needed a boost in confidence and direction.

Bruce Lee's viewpoints on life, collected by John Little and put together in this book,is absolute inspiration. No matter what religion you believe,no matter who you are, unless you're out of touch with your heart, you'll love this book.My brother always would quote the Bible and now that I bought him this book, he quotes that as well, oddly not being a fan,he quotes Bruce Lee more than the Bible now.I always have anyway,I caught Lee's message long ago.Now in this book,it's all laid out for anyone. You don't need to be a fan or a martial artist to treasure this wisdom, all you gotta be is a human-being."I want to be remembered not as a martial artist, but as a human-being."-Bruce Lee
