Another childhood book that I get to share with my kids. This was purchased for my 5 yr old and he enjoyed it. I think he liked the voices I did better than the book. This is a classic all kids should read and the illustrations in this were so beautiful!

This was one of my husbands favorite stories growing up and I bought it for him to read to our sons. The hardback is a nice size with beautiful illustrations and is very true to the original story I remember from my childhood. My kids love this story and it is fun to read to them so it gets five stars!

OMGoodness- I have loved this story since grade school. I've never forgotten it and couldn't live without it being passed from me to my Ewoks. The Three Billy Goats Gruff has been told time and time again, in books, audio and animation. There's only one book that truly has my heart, but I can't find it anyplace. So I had to go with this copy. Told just as well, (by Paul Galdone), but nowhere near as amazing as my original!

The story is all about getting to the green on the other side! The billy goats knew it would be dangerous to get there, but they didn't care. They were greedy and determined to do whatever they could to get it. So they made a plan and went for it. Thank goodness it was all in their favor!

The Three Billy Goats Gruff is a story that every child will love, especially if the reader puts the magic into the telling. I've always read with voices and with enough gruff to make it almost real. You will too when you read it to you rille ones.

I used to check out the book every two weeks, when it was available. I loved it so much, I purchased my own copy and read it to my Ewoks now. I think you'll read and love it too. Check it out, along with the amazing illustrations. This book is a true win.

I'm off to the next read, but make sure you grab yourself a copy of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. Cheers!

After reading this story to a kindergarten class, I had them dramatize it. This was a big hit! The children helped with the staging. We used tables put together, end to end, as the bridge. (A chair at each end to "climb" up to the bridge) I picked 3 children as the goats & one as the troll. (We dramatized the book several times as all wanted to take part.) I read the story aloud, stopping when it came to a goat or the troll speaking, letting the child speak for whatever animal he or she was. It was amazing how patiently the children watched & waited for their turns. And, then during recess, they were outside dramatizing on their own!
We also dramatized the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

This is a charming rendition of the classic fairy tale, well told and illustrated pleasingly. The three billy goats Gruff wish to travel to a lush meadow, but it lies across a bridge under which a terrible goat-eating troll lives. The first two goats cross, persuading the troll to wait for their elder brother who would make a bigger meal. When the third brother comes, he butts the troll so that he falls off the bridge into the river, and joins his brothers in the meadow.

The story is valuable for its humor and its read-aloud qualities: each goat trips across the bridge with a different sound, and the repetition of the story, with its dialogue between goats and trolls, is interactive and pleasing for young children. The troll is depicted frighteningly enough to seem a real threat without causing nightmares, and the tension builds toward a satisfying climax. While not essential, this is a very nice addition to a children's library. It is also available in an audio version.

PLEASE NOTE MY REVIEW IS ON THE PAUL GALDONE BOOK NOT JANET STEVENS AS STATED ABOVE!

Continuing in a fairy/ folk tale unit I read this book aloud a few times this week after not reading it for a few years. It is a perfect retelling with my students laughing out loud at the illustrations of the troll! One of my 5 th graders complained that I was reading a baby book at first but he changed his mind. The ending is different than others and that is exactly what I like about sharing different versions of the same fairy/folk tale. Perfect for the pre k crowd through all of elementary. It is a simple story with awesome illustrations and reading it aloud and getting louder and louder is so much fun!

I remembered this fairy tale from my own childhood but was first introduced to this version by Paul Galdone when I found this book (and read it to my son) at my father-in-law's house. My son loves this book so much that every time we're at a playground with a bridge or tunnel he wants to play 'troll and billy goats'. I, myself, loved the illustrations so much that we bought a collection of Paul Galdone's stories which have become the reading addiction of my younger daughter (containing The 3 Pigs, The 3 Bears, Little Red Hen and Cat Goes Fiddle-i-Fee). Galdone is an illustrator par excellence-- his illustrations are compelling, dramatic, comical at times, and lively. His choices of color, detail, and perspective are creative and thoughtful. One of my top children's book illustrators!

Janet Stevens created a wonderful version of this classic tale. Her illustrations are amazing and it is a great story to read aloud. It was one of my children's favorites stories to hear when they were 3-5 years old (now 16-19). Now, we regularly give this as a gift to other children in this age group which is why I am ordering today. Highly recommended!

I was just reminded of this teriffic retelling of Three Billy Goats Gruff. The suspense and pacing are brilliant. The illustrations are gorgeous AND funny. It was one of my all-time favorite read-alouds when I was a children's librarian. Galdone never failed in capturing the kids' imagination and story hour was always the better with one of his books. A MUST HAVE!

I gave this old time favorite to my grandaughter on her 4th birthday. She hasn't put it down and can now read the complete book herself, although she still prefers her mother to read it to her. It is a definate WINNER!

I grew up with this story - what happened?! Somewhere in this grossly underproduced version they forgot that even in a kids story you need talented actors. Kids know when someone sounds wooden and unskilled - and you can't pawn something as poorly done as this off on them. They're smarter than that! I could've done a better job in my garage. "Under the bridge lived a troll..." Come on!
