The story with its various chapters was well written and a delight to read. I thought I knew what would come next in the plot but there was always an interested twist.

I'll gladly continue to read this author hor's books.

This book has a very predictable plot but the joy is in the journey. The author manages to make a basic story line and make it their own. It was fun to read. If you feel like historical romance novels are getting too similar and want something different this book isn't right for you. But if you are like me and enjoy experiencing the same story from different author's perspectives you will enjoy this book.

Well written story with likeable characters. Couldn't put the book down. It was enchanting and you could lose yourself in the story. The only thing I would change is to focus more on Mad and the duke or make the romance parts a little more steamy. Maybe write more on their courtship? I don't know, it just felt that it needed a little something. I would have liked to see the ending extended to include their wedding, maybe a baby and just how their life starts out after they are married. A lot of times books just end and you feel that they could either write some more chapters or even a part 2 book.

It was a fun little romp through Regency England, and it's a romance novel, so yes, there will be sex, and no, women of that time-frame would never have acted like this. That's why it's called romantic fiction. It was well written and I actually liked the characters, which is always a plus. If you're looking for an intense, deep plot, with lots of twists and turns and maybe a murder mystery thrown in, this isn't it. This is purely a fabulously-wealthy-guy-thrown-together-with-a-fabulously-wealthy-girl-and-they-fall-in-love-but-can't-admit-it-to-themselves kind of novel.

I was pleasantly surprised as this book flowed through the plot...keeps the reader guessing on what's to happen next. As for those that reviewed it had too much sex to be realistic, read the description before purchasing! It's a fictional love story where anything can happen...I'm sure in "realistic" history there was a lot going on behind closed doors we never heard of because the parties were never caught...This was my first Sara Ramsey book and hopefully not my last...she has a wonderful talent of making her unique characters come alive...

This was a good historical romance that had acting, a double life, a rake of a duke, and so much more! Madeline is such a character, you cannot help but fall in love with her! She’s spunky and her view on life is great! There are a few steamy scenes in the book, but overall this was a good book!!

Loved it!

I truly enjoyed this story and the story line was easy to follow. The author drew the reader in and allowed us to experienced her characters emotions. Her characters were well defined, making them very real. The story had intrigue, suspense, betrayal, strong bonds, romance, and some sexual scenes, not too bad.

I wondered if I could love a strong woman character and found out that yes, I could, and so could the hero in this amazingly well written story. Could the hero be redeemed? I wasnt sure until I found myself totally enthralled with his feelings toward the heroine. She and her friends are too smart for their times and I love how they hide their identities because their love for their craft is so deep. Can't wait to read the next book!

The writing was decent, and I found the characters to be likeable. The situations they encountered were intriguing, and the romance scenes were heated and racy. I'll be looking for more from this author.

What a great storyline, the leads were lonely and tortured enough to make it interesting. It was sexy but not tacky. I really liked how they solved their problems and didn't give up, I adored how Ferguson always expected the best from Mad and never let her take the easy way out.

Will be purchasing more books from Ms. Ramsey

I enjoy a romance with just enough conflict to keep the story going forward, without devolving into a range of harsh characters just to extend the story. I got that with this book. Was very enjoyable and was truly a book that I couldn't stop until finished.

What I enjoyed most about this novel was the strong female lead who, despite social expectations, had the guts to live her dream. She wanted to be an actress, which of course was highly inappropriate for a woman of her social standing. So instead of giving up, getting married and having babies she comes up with a disguise that will allow her to live out her dream undetected. Of course, her alter ego has great success, making it well wirth the risk.
I also enjoyed the love story between the 2 main characters. They were both flawed, stubborn, independent and hard headed people. I thought they made a fantastic couple and thier love and lust sizzled on the page. The supporting characters were also entertaining and engaging. All around this was a great read. Im going to check out the rest of the series.

This enjoyable story kept me captivated and interested from start to finish. My problem was my own lack of knowledge of the lingo. But the author did an excellent job with character development, sense of place, intrigue, romance and love. Recommended for anyone looking for something light to read.

The characters are strong, an excellent plot. I adore Madeleine and think all the readers (ladies) will fall *head over heels * in love with the rascal Ferguson! I love this story, and boy-oh-boy the sex scenes are hot! Go hide in the bottom drawer of my desk 50 Shades of Grey, Heiress Without a Cause deserves the top drawer now...

As did another reviewer of this book, I also wondered about how realistic it would be for a woman with the heroine's high ranking amongst the ton to be willing to take such risks with her reputation, all for the sake of a few weeks of scandalous artistic expression and irresponsible sex. I did accept it for the sake of the story though, as I like the racy hint of steam that was added.

The period when sitting was very well done and the story line was new and exciting. I liked both of the main characters, their flaws and all and enjoyed the fact the the man dating cleared his intentions first. Can't was to read the next book in the series.

Poorly thought out motivation for why the Duke wanted the heroine which affected the entire book. However the story was fun reminding one a bit of a Shakespearean play. Some parts better written than others. Sex scenes were inventive. Fairly typical romance novel.

I love reading a romance series and this looks like it's going to be a gooood one too! I can't wait to read "Scotman Prefer Blondes", even though I am married to one and I have auburn hair. Yup, you guessed it, I'm Scottish too..a second generation Scottish-American! Well done...Sara, can't wait to see what happens to Amelia.

This thrilling romance with all its plots and twists and turns keeps the reader captivated, unable to put the book Down in many cases. I found myself reading way into the early hours of the day before sleep just had to be. An enchanting read!

I finished this book with a smile. Contentment is a good word. There could have been a little more trial and tribulations but on the whole, the story left me feeling good. I will look for the next in the series. Sara has a good turn of phrase. And it is a quick read. It does not drag.

This book has great characters. It is a complete novel with follow-up books for the lesser characters. Very pleased with this writer's ability to sell a complete storyline I'm one volume. Really dislike the trend of breaking a story into several parts. Bravo, this writer is the real deal.

Over all, I liked Heiress Without A Cause. However, several times during the first half, I put it down because I was having a difficult time connecting with the lead characters. I'm glad I persevered because the plot dilemma was solved in a way as to make this book worth the time to read it. I only wish the end had not been quite so abrupt, but thankfully it was NOT a cliffhanger and it was a good lead-in to the next books.

Now for the specifics. The writing was good. I liked the descriptions and Sara Ramsey id a good job of staying in the period with the vocabulary, grammar and dialog. Although the characters were well developed in proportion to plot development, I actually had the most trouble with the lead players in this drama. Madeleine's's character was a complicated contradiction. She's was a bold risk taker who was afraid of the consequences to herself and her family. I found that odd because of how much she suffered as a result of the risks her parents decided to take when she was a child. Ferguson was an angry, reluctant duke who burned too many bridges because of his abusive father. He was arrogantly unrepentant, until he met Madeleine, then his whole world tilted. Their relationship was intense and developed swiftly and satisfactorily. There were a few more explicit sex scenes than necessary and a couple of vulgarities, that were also not really needed.

Great historical romance. Lady Madeleine is a spinster who lives to act. Duke of Rothwell has been banished by his father 10 years ago. Together they learn to lean on each other. Stronger together than apart.

Excellent writing and book. Loved, loved, loved this book. This is my first encounter with a lady dressed as a man to pursue her love of the theater. And falling in love and taking liberties with a Duke (former rake). Will definitely be reading more of your books.

A rather enjoyed this book, more than I thought I would. I always get skeptical with the free books, sometimes I'm not sure if they'll disappoint or impress me and this one kept me reading so I'll take that as a positive win win.

I loved this book. It had everything to keep you wanting to continue reading to see how it ends. I loved the H and h the two roles Maddie played were hilarious. I also like the secondary
Characters can't wait to see if they get books. This was my first for this author and I'm looking forward to more books from her.

A wonderfully strong and unconventional heroine and a confused but secretly warm hero. I loved the theme of aristocratic women pursuing artistic passions that would typically be closed to them because of their gender or class. I also appreciated how realistic it felt - dramatic, but not melodramatic.

This book started out slowly enough that I began to wonder why I'd downloaded it onto my Kindle, so I went back to read some of the reviews. I was glad to see those who said it was worth sticking with, so that's what I did. Things started picking up and grabbing my interest at about 30%, and from then on I thought the book was excellent.

What I like about this book was how Lady Madeleine thought her life as a debutante"s was very booring , what she did to liven it up .How every one thought she was a wallflower,so the great lady of the ton did not pay attention to her.But when the duke started to notice her, that is when it the story became funny.

I do love a good historical romance with plenty of twists and turns. The chemistry between H & H was exciting. The story was very good although a little long and drawn out. It still rates a 5 with me because of how much I enjoyed the story.

Madeline is a firecracker, and Ferguson is a not-so-reformed rake. They both mesh well together, with equal parts of naughty delight and near vulnerability. I truly enjoyed reading this story, and have enjoyed a few others from this author.

This is such a sweet love story, really touching watching Madeleine bloom from the "spinster on the shelf" to the great actress on stage to the woman in love and loved by Ferguson. It was a joy to read. I look forward to the next book in the series.

I love historical romance novels, and this was one of the best. Likeable characters, enough drama to keep it interesting, and the sexton scenes were just right (not too raunchy, just enough steam). I've just ordered the second book on the series, and can't wait for the rest to hit the shelves.

I enjoyed the plot, the characters, and the writing. Job well done I say. I love stories of 18th and 19th century England, the era fascinates me and I thought this was a good twist on the expectations and possible events of the time. If you're looking for a quick, enjoyable read, this is a great choice.
