I've always been interested in Greek mythology, and a little obsessed with it since I read Mythology by Edith Hamilton in high school. I love introducing my 7-year-old to things that interest me, and I love it even more when he finds them interesting, too. This book is wonderful!

Great storybook, not just for kids !! Colored pictures, easy to understand stories of the mythological gods and goddesses. I'd recommend to anyone who wants to learn the myths in a short story format. Highly recommended. ENJOY !!

I knew this book from when I was teaching ancient history. I loved it then for the simple yet detailed telling of the Greek characters and their (mis)adventures. I have retired, but noticed that my 11 year old niece was interested in mythology and had this book sent to her. She loves it! It came in very good condition, like new, and I am very pleased with my purchase. Even though it is written by the D'Aulaires, better known for writing children's books, this one is perfect for any age.

The D'Aulaire's books of myths are always lovely. I bought them for my children and now buy them for my grandchildren. The illustrations are quirky in a sort of William Blake style. The myths are presented factually and not much sugar-coated for the kiddies, but our kiddies loved them anyway.

Easily one of the best Greek Myth books around for Kindergarten through 5 graders. The vocabulary is very advanced and somewhat mature (The Greek gods are a rather randy bunch) but explaining the action is part of the fun of sharing these myths with a younger audiences. My students look forward to their "Myth Time" and work toward it. The excellent illustrations and "family tree" are constantly fascinating my students.

This book on CD is fabulous. I initially bought it for long car rides. Somehow, this set of Greek myths migrated in to the house and my older kids listen to it over and over again. They love the myths.
Greek myths are often violent and, of course, Zeus has many wives, which Hera disapproves of. I really didn't feel like anything was over the top for my 9 and 7 year olds. The Greek myths just are and to take that aspect out, they wouldn't be accurate. Just be aware that you may want to screen this before listening to it with kids, in case something would bother you.
This set follows the book exactly. Different people read different sections and I found none of the voices annoying.
I actually like to listen to it myself, but I love mythology.
I would recommend this Book on Cd for anyone interested in Greek mythology or homeschoolers learning about Ancient Greece.

The illustrations in this book are stunning. They are brightly colored, a better representation of the way Ancient Greek art looked at the time than we usually see. The stories are simply told and allow the young to participate in the two thousand year old tradition of Western civilization.

I have long lived Greek mythology! This was my first book, when I was 14, and having it back is like a hugging an old friend. I have read others with more fascinating art work, but this one is good, too. The thing about Greek Mythology is just that - it's all made up, and one can tell simply by reading more than one, since they are quite inconsistent. None the less, this is a great starter book, especially for kids!

I would recommend purchasing the hardcover version of this book. We've enjoyed using this product as homeschoolers. However, the soft binding is quickly showing wear. We are quickly loving this book to death.

This is truly a timeless book for children. I remember poring over this book throughout my childhood. It gave me a solid foundation on all Greek mythlogy later on in my education; I remembered the descriptions of the diffent gods came in handy as I read the Illiad and The Odyssey in high school and college. The structure of the book facilitates the understanding of how the greek gods are related and how they gave rise to the different heroes and myths. I still remember the classic illustrations in this book and the imprint it left on me.I had been searching for the ideal present for my nephew and I was glad to see this book is still in print.

My grandmother gave this book to me and my siblings in the early sixties, and I have loved it ever since. The husband and wife D'Aulaire team tell the stories of the basic Greek pantheon and associated myths in a logical and lovely way, with beautiful prose and fanciful pictures that I remember to this day. My children feel the same way. Read it with your children and grandchildren to give them the gift of recognizing every allusion to Greek mythology that they encounter as they grow up: this is essential knowledge for a literate person, presented in an engaging way.

Thank you for your prompt attention...the book was destined for a friend of mine with a grand daughter named Persephone.
It is a beautiful presentation, appropriate for children and adults alike. I wanted her to understand the story behind her name.

This book should be required reading for every boy and girl, and everyone else who hasn't read it. Plus it is fascinating entertainment read aloud. Of course, there are many good (and great!) versions and translations of Greek Myths, but this is a very accessible tale for most. I should have bought a gross of this book to start with, as I have given so many away.

My son, advanced reader for his age, couldn't wait to get to this book. It has (mostly) engaging drawings (although towards the midway point forward they seem to have lost their colored pencils) with equally engaging stories. My husband, post-post 2nd grade, also found it engaging. Easy, fast read.

This purchase was a gift for myself. I remember checking this book out of the library on numerous occasions as a child growing up. The stories are so memorable that I can now share them with my grandchildren. This is definitely a quality book.

These myths are entertaining while also providing 'cultural information' like where modern words and phrases come from. (i.e. the story of Narcissus and Echo, Tantalus, the great flood, Pandora's box.)
A wise and fun buy!
