I read the original version of this story and just finished reading the revised version. As much as I loved the original, the revisions added so much more to the story. Without changing the story line, Linda Hopkins added more depth to the characters, giving the reader more insight into who they are. This author and this series are among my favorites, and The Dragon Archives books are a must read.

I liked the characters and that the author got right into telling the story. They didn't waste words, or my time, selling me on the dragon shifter idea. I get it. I wanna get to know the characters and it was great. Can't wait l read the next book!!

I really enjoyed the story and the way the author brought in details and built the story. I now have to get the rest of the stories. Really need to find out what happens to the rest of the characters. Pati D

Not a bad read. It's entertaining enough with the characters' batter. However the characters and story are somewhat flat. Any potential plot tension build in the story line is usually resolved within 2-3 short chapters.

It sounded like it would be a good book, and it did manage to pull me into the story, but there's where it stopped. Maybe it was Keira's mother that bothered me the most. Her attitude didn't sit well with me. When you have a daughter that tells you someone is physically hurting her, you listen and side with your daughter, NOT with the man that is hurting her.

Aaron and Keira's story is so sweet. He knew he loved her from the first time he saw her. But she learned to love the man then the dragon. Her sister Anna and father kept his secret though her mother doesn't know. Aaron is also protective of Anna and allows her to stay after she was attacked. After Max comes I can't wait to continue this story to discover who will breakdown first to admit there is something there. Very glad that there is more story that will also tell more of Aaron and Keira since both are at their castle. Have fun reading this.

I had a hard time with this book.
There was no overarching conflict--just a string of unrelated problems, quickly solved with an action and some on-the-nose emotional dialogue. It felt like there were 4 or 5 false endings bc everything was resolved.
Every character was 1-dimensional, although the bad guys' motives and actions didn't always logically coincide, in favor of drama.
I didn't like that drinking each other's blood was such a 'necessary' part of their relationship--that was a stretch, and sexualizing it was so gross. Why??
WORST part, though (spoiler): she sees him eat a human, and she freaks and cries. He gets mad. A side character gently tells her she needs to accept his dragon nature like a good wife or she'll lose his love. She repents of her fear, immediately disrobing in apology. Um, what about him accepting her human nature to freak out when he feasts on her species?! He at least didn't have to scream at her for having an aversion! Uuuugh freakin sexist nonsense so infuriating...
Anyway now I'm rooting for them to break up.

I do so love Dragons, I wish they were real. How lucky is Kiera to be loved by a Dragon, especially a golden one like Aaron Drake. Despite the villagers attempt to rid themselves of the Dragon who has come to Storbrook, he triumphs and wins out. I found this book hard to put down and am off to read the next book.

Think a dragon version of beauty and the beast. Village brute wants to marry village girl, but she doesn’t like him. She marries the dragon who can take human form and brute is upset and makes village try to “kill the beast!” Clean, easy read.

This novel is carefully written and will please many readers. The storyline is rather obvious but flows adequately. The back story for the existence of dragons is very clever and well thought out. However, I found the characters two-dimensional and predictable. There was little complexity in their development, and some thoughts and emotions were repetitively described rather demonstrated by actions. I got bored with the flow of the book and skimmed through the second half quickly to follow the story. I will not be reading the sequels.

I really hate to write terrible reviews on books, because I know how much work and effort has gone into writing them. But this book was absolute garbage.

Honestly, the only good thing I can say about this book is that it well edited, without any noticeable typos or misspelled words.

Here's the book summed up: girl meets guy. Guy and girl fall in love. Guy turns out to be a dragon. Throw in some drinking of blood, a bit of eating people, and a dash of beastiality, and you have a recipe for this disaster of a book.

The writing, storyline, and character development were incredibly sophomoric and juvenile.

Do yourself a favor, and pass on this book.

I was expecting a larger novel style book. This is a short story. The writing is simplistic as if the author is writing for the pre-teens. The story concept is great. The book world is full of wolf shape shifters and they are boring! It was a novelty to read a story about a shape shifter race that would have a more likely chance of being true to one partner. I like the fact that there's no sex scenes, I just wish the story and characters had been more fully developed.

Love dragons, but this novel wasn't that exciting. The plot is predictable, as is the outcome. The romance has some substance. So the declarations of love have some support in the context of the novel, but it's still thin. The characters are sadly realistic. The attitudes of some toward domestic violence, rape and misogyny are accurately reflected here, though the novel isn't dark and gritty. While the novel is okay, it wasn't very deep or compelling, and so I won't be reading the next novel in the series.

Good editing, use of language, and easy to read, but the characters were flat and sophomoric, and the plot was slow and weak. I gave up about half way through the book. It had great potential, but wasn't well crafted. There was no reason for the characters to fall in love, especially that early in the book. The author also spent too much time telling rather than showing -- with long dialogues about backstory that killed the pacing of the book. Finally it started descending into disturbing places... eating human criminals and drinking dragon blood to magically extend life. Since I wasn't really attached to the characters yet, that killed it. I'm guessing she wanted a dragon version of Edward Cullen (vegetarian vampire), but it wasn't working. We needed a shared adversity that threw the characters together to make this believable, beyond a weak (very weak) beauty and the beast motif.

I wanted this book on audio, but I won't be buying it; the reviews aren't great. Why do author's try to save money by narrating their own books -- only to sabotage the sale of their own audio book with an amateurish performanc?

One Audible reviewer writes: "She (the author/reader) maintains a cheerful pleasant voice the entire time, no matter what is happening . . . the antagonist about to beat and rape the protagonist he sounds like Siri on your iPhone politely giving you directions. . . . The two love interests having a quarrel? Sweet polite voice. Someone getting killed? Sweet polite voice."

No thanks. Seems like a dumb way to pinch a penny.

Bummer.

All the villagers had an inate fear of dragons....all except Keira, who spent hours watching a dragon soar overhead. Now there is also a newcomer to the village, Aaron, lord of a nearby castle, who can’t stay away from Keira. But the castle is supposedly where the dragon lives and Aaron and the dragon are never seen together....hmmmm?

Thrown into the mix is Edmund, the spoilt and cruel son of the reeve. Edmund and Keira were thrown together as children, destined to be married by their mothers’ wishes....but Keira only has eyes for Aaron...this can only end in disaster.

Without giving away more of the story, I will say it has tense moments as well as its share of romance. I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review

A cute fairy tale of life in Medieval times, when the world believed in the fiery fierceness of dragons. Kiera is fascinated when the dragon comes flying across the skies. She has heard the stories told by the elders that dragons choose to kill the villagers and to eat young girls, but she does not believe any of it. This dragon has done nothing to harm anyone in the village. As Kiera is setting up Her families table on market day she watches as a well dressed wealthy man stops at each if the tables to look at what is offered. As the man approaches her families table, she find that she is attracted to the man. Aaron Drake is fascinated by the young woman who is selling her father's wooden wares. He wants to get to know her and find out why she is not afraid of the dragon who flies over the village each day. The story us really cute and us another variation on what the life of a dragon consisted of.

I should go back and reread this one. I had moved and took very few of my formerly massive paperback book collection with me, so I went bookless for about a year before I broke down and bought a Kindle. This was one of my first ereads, and I. WAS. HOOKED. At the time, the author was new and didn't have a book2 out yet, but I would have grabbed it up. I think it's time for a revisit, and explore her other titles. I'm glad to see she kept going!

I liked this book well enough to preorder all of the other books. If you like dragons who shift into men (*not* men who shift into dragons), who love their chosen mates and families, and who also live within a medieval society (mostly) in secret, then you will love this series. It's very romantic in the best sense of the world. I highly recommend the series.

I love the culture/world that the author created, her story-writing is so intriguing I couldn't help getting completely caught up in the story... and falling in love with a dragon!!
There's romance, action, and suspense.

Excellent read! I really enjoyed this book, I could really envision the characters and the scene fully. Each page is well written and exciting, enticing me to turn the page to see what will happen next. The romance is tasteful and the love between the characters feels real and deep. Looking forward to finding out what happens next in future novels by this talented author.
