I rarely do this. Once I started reading this book, I spent the better part of the last day and a half reading it. A Curious Beginning of a bad habit for me. I will go on to the next book in a few hours at least.

Hopefully the first one of a series. The story starts out very promising and you get to find out where Veronica Speedwell comes from. But there are a lot more secrets to learn. I look forward to reading more books about her.

Deanna Raybourn has outdone herself with this book. The characters of Veronica Speedwell and Stoked are perfect. A match made in heaven. I fore see several more stories on their adventures. If you like adventure with a touch of wimpsey thrown in than Veronica Speedwell is the woman for you.

Well written. Victorian England mystery, drama, intrigue, and a little romance. The characters were believable in their actions as was the most of the dialogue, of which I did my best to read with a British accent.

in spite of some fairly preposterous circumstances - or more likely because of them - this was a highly entertaining read. Just don't ask too many questions about historical or cultural accuracy and you'll have a grand time.

I love Deanna Raybourn's books. Her characters are very well rounded and this new story line is a lot of fun! I immediately ordered her second book in this series and I am currently reading it and loving it as well.

Deanna Raybourn has done it again! An excellent plot that I didn't foresee coming, unique characters who draw you in, all immaculately set in a time period that takes you back to another age. Felt like I was in England right along with them! And I would like to add that reading Raybourn's books always grow my vocabulary. Definitely recommend!

I love when two feisty characters are matched wit for wit! I was over the large words so I skimmed them however the characters were educated and the language was fitting for the era. It was quite an adventure with sarcasm. A good read. I've already purchased the next book!

I really enjoyed reading about Veronica and Stoker. Not everything was revealed about their lives and their beliefs so I will look forward to their forthcoming adventures. This was a wonderful start to a new series. I eagerly await book two.

What can I say? Deanna is brilliant. From crafting that crucial first sentence that hooks the reader, to demanding and holding all the reader's attention as the story progresses, Ms Raybourn exhibits genius.

I enjoyed this first stop on the Veronica Speedwell story. It was funny, serious, interesting, witty. The characters interested me and Ms. Raybourn left me with enough mysteries to look forward to the next installment.

Veronica and Stoker's introductory novel bodes well for another wonderful new series by Deanna Raybourn. . Like Lady Julia, Veronica is a capable and adventurous woman . Stoker has indeed met his match. The plot kept me guessing and the
