This is a very thought provoking story on many levels. The characters were interesting. I loved Maggie; Michael was complex as was June; Shay an enigma -- I just couldn't figure out who or what he really was even to the very end. Perhaps the author wanted to leave the reader guessing. I also found myself asking what I would have done were I in June's situation. I think in the end she made the right choice. All in all it was a good read.

A real page turner, this novel delves into religions, ethics, organ donation and the death penalty. The characters are well defined and you miss them when the story ends. Some of the plot is incredible, but it is fiction after all.

Once again, Jodi Picoult weaves a story that enlightens and educates the reader, all the while drawing the reader in to the hearts and lives of her characters. She has a gifted way of eliciting compassion for the victim and the offender. I look forward to her next captivating story that could easily come from the headlines of today's news!
The Tenth Circle: A Novel :: A heartbreaking story with a breathtaking twist - A Mother's Confession :: Mercy :: Sing You Home :: Shine: A Short Story

Change of Heart is a fascinating account of a carpenter charged with the murder of a young girl and her step-father, a policeman who had earlier been the attending officer when the mother June and her young daughter Elizabeth had been told of the death of their much loved husband and policeman father. The officer had been caring and kind in the ensuing months after the death of his colleague and eventually marries the widow June. We are told that the carpenter, seemingly kindly and gentle-natured, had befriended the family after knocking on their door offering to help with some badly needed maintenance issues. When some months later June comes home from an outing she is devastated to find her home cordoned off and police officers tell her that her(now) husband and daughter Elizabeth are dead, apparently murdered by the carpenter.

The story is complex and with many a twist and turn to keep the reader enthralled as Lawyer Claire and then Catholic Father Michael become involved in the most extraordinary tale of their careers!

A great read!

I fully enjoyed the book. wonderful story line. It was recommended to me by a friend who enjoys reading as much as I do.
It was a different take on religion which makes one think and ponder faith. Really love the character developed by Picoult and look forward to reading more of her work.

I read this book recently, after borrowing from a friend, and liked the way it brought some potentially controversial topics to the forefront. I liked it enough that I ordered this copy to be sent to my daughter.

This book was beautifully written and crafted. It was a difficult subject that provoked a lot of thinking. A lot of excellent research was needed to tell this story and the author did an excellent job of using imagination and factual information together.
