I would highly recommend this book. I finished it in one sitting. Barbara Corcoran created an empire in real estate, became a business investor on the popular show "shark tank" and writes a very motivating story about her life. In this book she gives excellent advice and relates lessons she learned growing up that attributed to her success and decisions in business. And it is entertaining as an autobiography as well.

Barbara Corcoran uses all of her gifts again in writing an entertaining and inspiring book. I take to heart all of the wonderful and wise lessons her mother taught her. Read the book in a couple of days and just loved it! Thank you, Barbara!

This was a truly entertaining book, I just loved it. A funny, and informative book that will let you get to know Barbara Corcoran much better. I would recommend it to anyone, even if they are not a fan of Shark Tank.

I enjoy watching shark tank and after reading this book, it is little surprise that Mrs Corcoran was selected as one of the sharks. This book is a peek into her life on her journey from a waitress to a real estate queen to a TV personality/venture capitalist. In this book, you can find honest entrepreneurial tips and lessons.

Mrs Corcoran is really smart and is able to apply indirect lessons from her mom into aspects of her entrepreneur life.

Things she shared. For example:
> Using attention grabbers to stand out
> Emphasizing on the plus points to cover the minus points
> Offering the bigger piece so yours will taste better
> Having a system for everything
> There is always room for talent
> Fun is good business
> Always be over-prepared
> Create demand: everybody wants what everybody wants
> How to pick talents
> Just do it, do not be afraid of failure

I do find that some of the mom's lessons seems hard to draw a connection though.
Nevertheless, this is a great business book and I would recommend it. Not to mention it is written with humour and an easy read.
There is also a follow-up on the side characters too!

Not forgetting to mention. Mrs Corcoran's mother is a great mom with a positive mindset - always encouraging her and never stop believing in her. That is the way every parent should be!

A wonderful read with true life stories any business person can use in their business life. Barbara shows that kindness and goodwill definitely holds a place in business dealings - something that is not always found in most business dealings!

Kudos to her success and desire to help others succeed in their businesses!

Someone I admire and respect suggested that a group to which I belong read "Shark Tales" by Barbara Cocoran.
When I started to read it I couldn't understand why I should be reading a book about a woman in real estate who turned $1000 into a billion dollar business. It didn't seem like something that I would be interested to learn about, after all, I'm not in real estate.
Cocoran's style of writing and the stories she told made me want to continue reading. It didn't take too long for me to realize the book was for any woman who wants to be successful in business, not just in real estate.
All of the success Barbara Cocoran attained in her life stemmed from experiences she had during her childhood with much influence from the wise, sometimes unconventional advice of her mother.
Barbara Cocoran was one of 10 children in a family that had only one bathroom. Failing at the first 22 jobs she had, an overbite and dyslexia, along with the subsequent learning disabilities that accompany that diagnosis, she never let those things or any other adversity stand in her way of accomplishing her goals.
Barbara is a down to earth, no nonsense woman who, during the course of her business career, took on the likes of the Donald and won.
She is thoughtful, simple (as in not complex), down to earth, and relies on her gut and heart to make decisions.
Toward the end of the book, Cocoran explains 14 suggestions you should use in order to make your business a successful one. I'm not certain if they are listed in a specific order, however, her first suggestion is "Trust Your Gut", something I believe we have to learn how to do more often. Her last is " Pick Good People" in which she states looking for the same three traits in every entrepreneur she chooses to do business with; "good character, lots of enthusiasm, and a genuine sense of thankfulness." Definitely good advice from my perspective.
How many times have you read a book and wondered what happened to the people? Well, in the last section of the book she even provides an update on the people mentioned in the book.

This book was awesome and really kept me engaged. I didn't want to put it down. I enjoyed the flashbacks to Barbara's childhood throughout and how she was able to tie certain lessons she learned throughout her childhood to business.

Enjoyed the book a lot. As a Real Estate Broker, I would have liked to have more information about how she set up her company, what the commission splits were etc. I did learn but wanted to learn much more. Well Written.

I love, love this book and Barbara Corcoran. She inspires me and I think of "what Barbara would do" in my decision making. Her good common sense outlook and savvy is valuable way beyond any education. I have reread some parts when I needed a "push". I have and will keep suggesting this book to friends and strangers. Thank you, thank you, thank you Barbara for sharing.

When I first started reading it, I thought I probably shouldn't have bought it-- just interesting anecdotes about her growing up in a family of ten kids. It seemed entertaining (very enjoyable reading), but now that I'm further into the book I'm finding a lot of very useful, practical information as well. I would recommend this for anyone who wants to start their own business-- much useful information. (How to organize a business, and in addition she really has a talent for marketing, Some great ideas for promoting the goods or services your business offers, & possible ways to save money on PR/advertising by doing it yourself without having to hire an outside company to do it for you).

This book is packed with trials and tribulations. Knowledge, and mistakes. Serious moments, and humor. I thought it would be all about Shark Tank, and getting more exposure for herself, but Barbara has done a great job with this one.

It was fascinating to read the author's real life story of growing up in a large family and the lessons she learned along the way. I've never read a business book quite like this one. Insightful, engaging, witty and endearing. It is unique and one of my favorites.

Thank you Barbara for sharing your story and inspiring us in so many ways!
