This Nelson brother has completely won over my heart, and the brothers, it is sad to say, have moved the McGregor clan out of my top spot.

Maverick, so far, is my favorite Nelson brother. I love his charm, his laid-back nature, and his protective instinct. His job at SAR only serves to highlight his best features. His sense of honor and loyalty, coupled with his need to be a good leader for his team makes him so swoonworthy. Add to that his dirty mouth and impeccable skills in the bedroom, and I am sold. Maverick has earned his title of favorite Karina Halle hero. I adore him.

Riley is another heroine I didn't really expect. The opening scene led me to believe that we should get a more broken character, but Karina Halle makes her bold. Her confidence, her sex appeal, her mouth, and zeal for life are contagious, and I completely enjoyed reading about her.

The chemistry between these two from the very beginning is off the charts, and out of all of her books, their connection, emotionally and physically, is searing. Every scene is HOOOTTT, so freaking hot. It is probably one of the steamiest books I have read from her, and this is in large part due to the sexual freedom of both Riley and Maverick.

Not only does Karina Halle deliver a super steamy romance with characters to love, but she also delivers a romance that has elements of danger with the occupations of both of the main characters. The inherent dangers of the job bring a level of fear for the couple as well as puts the reader in heightened state of suspense because we know the dangers of the job will come into play. When it does, the heightened emotions of Riley and Maverick are intense, and the author does a great job making the readers feel the grief and heartbreak of each character. There might be some who don't like how the secondary conflict is resolved, but I liked how it exemplified the solidarity of the team, especially after what they all endured together.

Maverick brings it all to the table: super steamy sex, romance, lovable characters, and story filled with anticipation. I didn't want the story to end. I just love them and their story that much. It is definitely another one-click book for this author.

Karina Halle books are where I go for comfort. Whether I’m in the mood for horror, angsty love, illicit sexy affairs that take me all over the world, or complicated romances with perfectly flawed characters, Karina can fill any book void. Maverick hits many marks but mostly for me, it was a warm, wild sexy, journey. Was it deep and angsty? Maybe a little. Was it sexy, dirty, and hot? 100%…in fact, that cabin scene…whew. Absolutely one of the hottest scenes I’ve read.

Book two in the North Ridge series is Maverick’s story. Big, brawny, sexy, mountain man Maverick. On face value, Maverick isn’t necessarily angsty or overly emotional. The feels are all there, don’t misunderstand. It’s just done on a lighter version. The complexity of Maverick may not appear right away, it’s easy to devour this story in one sitting. But I found that even hours later I was still thinking about Maverick and Riley. Their story is one of strength, responsibility, and redemption.

Riley ranks right up there as one of my favorite female characters Karina has written. She’s no nonsense, brave, confident, even a little forward and I loved it! She’s okay with being wrong, easily admits her failures, and loves fiercely. The dynamic between Maverick and Riley is so electric, the interaction between them was off the charts hot. I found it remarkable that considering the “baggage” Riley carried with her, she was able to stand up for what she wanted when it came to Maverick. She didn’t wallow, nor was she self deprecating.

This series is quickly turning into a favorite for me. Karina’s writing always amazes me and this one didn’t disappoint. I’m so excited for Fox and Del’s story. The lead up to book three has me anticipating something really explosive, and I cannot wait!

MAVERICK: is a complete standalone novel and the second book within the series (North Ridge #2) by Karina Halle. About the rough and rugged Nelson brothers. Get ready for one wild alpha mountain man - Canada's never felt so hot! Spoken in ‘Dual Perspectives’

In this we meet Riley and Maverick. Riley’s story kick started us off in the ‘Prologue’ two years ago in a blink of an eye life pretty much ceased for Riley, a mountain disaster closed a chapter on her life so now she’s taking life by the horns and is the new comer to North Ridge, Columbia. She’s also the newest member of the North Ridge search and rescue team, and also the only woman the team has.
Meeting her new boss Maverick the attraction between them sizzles off the pages, their flirtatious banter heats up each encounter, she pushes his buttons like no other.

BUT there is a non fraternising rule within their workplace, anyone caught in a compromising situation, is fired, no questions asked. Both have worked too hard to compromise their careers over an office fling that might not go any further than a one night stand.

The author turned up the heat on this one, scorching hot!! Maverick is as alpha as they come, sexy, tough, straight shooter, he has such a demanding presence in this book and pair him with Riley and he's met his match. These two were the perfect characters, sugar and spice. I've been stalking this book hard and was super excited when it landed on my kindle, the background setting of this book had me devouring the pages eating up every word the author threw at me. Now I can't wait for Fox's story. This series just gets better and better. A series I highly recommend!!

All I have to say is "Holy Smoking Wow HOTNESS"!! This may be a series of books, but they are totally, 100% standalones and oh so different. The common denominator? Hot, Rugged, Canadian Mountain Men! These Nelson brothers are something else.
John "Maverick" Nelson is the middle son and he puts his life on the line daily with being a part of BC's SAR team of first responders. He's a ruggedly good-looking man that plays the field (manwhore says Rachel) but also puts others before himself. That's his job and that's his risk to take. He loves the danger and importance of his job and nothing will change that.
"I don't play it safe..Not in these situations, anyway. If you're not in this business to risk your life, why are you in it?"
Enter Riley Clarke. Young, fresh faced, gorgeous and ready to take on the world. She just moved from Colorado after a tragic event and is ready to join the team that Maverick heads up. She isn't afraid of her sexuality, says what's on her mind and takes her job in a male dominated field very seriously.
"You should get laid because you're aching for D and not because you feel you've lost your place in the world."
This story gets your blood pumping from the prologue to the end. Karina Halle always kills you in the prologue. She pulls you in and crushes your heart a bit. And this one is no exception. She makes you have a deep respect for first responders and what they risk day in and day out. And then she gets other parts of you pumping with the sexual tension that is out of control. These two don't even touch one another and you feel the explosiveness of their relationship come right off the pages. It could be hearing Mav's inner dialogue or it could be the fact that Riley just says what is on her mind. She is a strong female and isn't afraid to let you know EXACTLY what she wants.
"That little taste was everything and yet wasn't enough. I'm hungry. I'm like a ... junkie."
This story is HOTness. I swear it's like 50% sexual tension/sex and 50% heart pounding thrills. So, be prepared for combustion! A dirty talking ALL man that knows how to please a woman and a woman that knows herself and what she wants makes for a book that you won't want to put down until you're finished. All the characters in this series are oh so different, so don't go in thinking it will be the same as Wild Card. You do get the feels, but this is more sex, more thrills and more laughs. 4.5 Smoking Hot Winter stars

This is the second book in the series North Ridges, which tells the story of the Nelson brothers who live in a small town in the mountains of Canada. After Shane get your Deserved happy ending, it's time to Maverick, the Middle brother, and also the head of the rescue team of the city come and tell Your story.

First I have to say that although it is part of a series, this book can be read separately from the others, each have your own separate history. That being said we go: I loved this book it was hard to tell who won me over more, Maverick or Riley. These two are a couple.

Riley and Mavericks know each other when she moves to a small town in the mountains of Canada and begins working on the rescue team which Maverick is the boss.An incredible attraction arises between them on the first date but their job is easy and comes with a rule not to get involved with team members, which was never difficult for him before, but with the arrival of Riley becomes increasingly hard to resist. And Riley want to Maverick and don't do any modesty that makes the situation easier for him. The more he can take without falling into temptation?

I love Riley, she is a breath of fresh air in the young ladies that I have read. She has no inhibitions about your sexuality, she has no charm or games, she goes after what she wants and doesn't hide that. She is strong and fragile there once. Maverick is also great, he's sexy, bossy, but also has a heart of gold, even though a moment later who wanted to get into the book and send him to shut up, because he was insensitive and even cruel. But at least he realized to your stupidity. The chemistry between them is great, I loved their relationship from boss is employed to something more.

Maverick is a funny book, sweet, light, with little level of anguish, super sexy and hot and bring a story that holds the attention from start to finish. I swear this series just keeps getting better. The last book is Fox, and what I've been looking forward to since the first book in this series.

"”I just know...the moment I touch you, that’s all I’ll ever want.”

I have been a reader of Karina Halle’s books for quite some time. Whilst I prefer her forays into the darker genres, now and again I do pick up her contemporary reads and enjoy them. Maverick is exactly that - enjoyable. Nothing more and nothing less for me. I didn’t get wholly swept up in the story or the characters. I found it an easy read and a wonderful way to while away the hours without having to think too much on the plot or figure out any twists or turns. Like I said - easy read.

Maverick covers some fairly decent plot/subject themes but I felt a little cheated, that perhaps they weren’t explored as thoroughly as they could have been. Karina’s usual steamy scenes abound in here - proportional to plot? Yes, except those scenes seemed to be together in the last third of the book, so I felt like I was getting a chunk of saucy and very little story at that point.

Some great flirty banter in Maverick too, both the characters bounced off one another and you could feel the chemistry zinging between Mav and Riley. I wasn’t an absolute fan of either character, I often felt at times they were a little shallow until the point they got their act together with one another. Their relationship was a little angsty in places but not overpoweringly so.

What I did love about this book was the setting and scenery. I don’t read these books very often and I tend to forget that snowy, mountainous imagery appeals to me. I do love stories set in this world. Through a few tense scenes, Karina managed to pull me right in with her descriptive words and imagery. I liked it a lot and for me was the best part of the book. I’d recommend Maverick if you want something easy that will warm your heart by the end.

Confession time. . . This is my first Karina Halle book!!! What I know! Scandalous! However, it will not be my last. I have so many of her books on my kindle but never got around to reading, so when this opportunity came, I jumped on it taking the plunge. I also regret not reading Wild Card first. I know Maverick can be considered a standalone but I'm a bit OCD so I like to read series in order plus I always feel it gives more to the back story which I missed. However, I will be backtracking and reading it soon, plus many, many, many more from this talented author.

Riley Clarke is a strong girl working for the SARS team in Colorado but when her best friend and unrequited love is in a terrible accident it causes Riley to start fresh somewhere else. Now Riley finds herself in the middle of the North Ridge in BC, working for her new handsome boss, John “Maverick” Nelson.

~ But closure doesn't mean a door closing on pain. You can have peace and pain at once. The heart can weather any storm.~

Maverick is the town's ladies man and doesn't do commitment but something about Riley is different. As Riley and Maverick wade through their attraction and work politics they are also rescuing one person at a time.

However, not all rescues are a success and for some this can effect more than others with their pasts.

Both Maverick and Riley have a past but its not always easy moving forward. This book was a great mix of sexy and fluffy. It had drama without all the normal insecurities you find within this genre. It had loads of steam but a nice balance with the soft and sweet as well. Can't wait for more from this author and this series.

I’m fast becoming addicted to Karina Halle’s North Ridge series, and with brothers like the Nelsons, who can blame me.

Maverick in the middle heads up the mountainous towns the search and rescue team. He’s fully dedicated to his job and holds the safety of the public and his team as paramount. As lead it’s his duty to welcome the newest employee and he has high hopes she’ll fit in well to his already established team. What he doesn’t bank on is how well he wants to get to know her on a personal level.

Moving to North Ridge is the beginning of a fresh start for Riley Clarke. Mountain rescue is all she knows and what she does best, but after a traumatic experience she’s keen to rekindle the passion for her role. She’s never been one to hold back and after meeting her new boss, try as she might, (which isn’t very hard) she makes her attraction known.

Greater than the temptation of giving in to his attraction is the calling he has to his job. They are drawn to each other, and Mav is intrigued by not only her, but by how much he finds himself opening up to her.

Karina doesn’t hold back and makes it her personal mission to torture us with the sexual tension between Mav and Riley. The payoff is a great and it’s a wonder the fire crew were not called to put out the steam coming off these two.

Secondary to the romance is the recurring onus on the relationship dynamic between the brothers. I have to admit I’m slightly obsessed by it. We gain more insight and history with each brother’s perspective and as well as Fox promising to bring the heat, I’m really looking forward to him putting the last piece of the puzzle in place.

I’ve been reading Karina Halle’s books for years, and each time after finishing one of her books I think, no.. there is no way next one will be better than this one. Oh well, next one always IS better… so yeah, it’s magic circle, and I am thrilled to be a part of it.

Maverick is the second instalment in the North Ridge series, and please, just look at that cover! Damn!
Basically, I don’t intend to write about the plot or to reveal anything, because I personally hate these types of reviews, but I will tell you, that if after seeing this cover you think you will read about some hot alpha male, you are not wrong. *winkwink* except… within these pages you will get so much more than that, you’ll find two people who have found new glimmers of light.

Maverick is book about Riley and Mav, two broken people working on search and rescue team in the mountains of Canada. I like these two from the very beginning. I loved their fierceness, and the fact they were risking their lives, day after day, to save others.
Why would you risk your life at work when you could be safe in an office? Karina made me think a lot while reading this book and after doing some research, I found out that rescuers are one of the most dangerous jobs in the world.

Aside from their dangerous profession, Riley and Mac had an amazing chemistry. Riley is a strong heroine and I am sure you will love her too.
Overall, Maverick had all the elements that I love and usually go for.
Emotional, passionate, amazing characters, and a bit of suspense all packed in one amazing read.
I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

When the wilderness of people's feelings catching up with wilderness and beauty of the scenery place, you got John “Maverick” and Riley’s story.

An intense and passionate story, where feelings were running deep, the feel of adrenaline and emotional moments that would transport you and drive you crazy. When it came to these two, the tension emanating was just smoking hot.

As a new member of John’s rescue team, Riley was trouble with a capital A. Off limits and definitely more than she seemed to be. Obviously you must have guessed that our hero was kinda… a lady’s man. Living a small town could give quite a reputation but once again appearances were deceiving.

Well that guy wasn't hiding about this but when he met Riley, all bets were off.

More than a physical connection, as team partners they had to face and go through dangerous rescues, saving people's lives was definitely a way to get closer. I appreciated how bold and honest they were, how responsive they were towards each other. They saw in each other their scars, deepest fears and hopes. They gave everything they had, through the good and the bad times, never holding back.

I went  from rough to hot, tender and sweet sometimes, definitely right up my alley!

The story being settled in such resplendent, wild landscapes will take your breath away. There was something about North Ridge that made you feel like home, when family and friendship mattered.

Super hot, emotional, intense and wild... I truly adore this series and this family.

I'll be honest, after reading the first North Ridge book I really wanted Fox and Del's story. But I was also really curious about Mav and Karina Halle definitely didn't disappoint. This book was so good and I couldn't put it down. I loved it even more than the first book in the series, and I really enjoyed that one! This series is shaping up to be one of my favorites from Karina yet!

John Maverick Nelson is the leader of a search and rescue team and is used to putting his life on the line for others. But when it comes to relationships and commitment, he prefers to stay away from them. He loves women, but prefers to keep it strictly casual. When he meets Riley Clarke though, he finds himself tempted for more. The only problem is that Riley is off-limits as the newest member of his team according to a no fraternization rule that could have one or both of them losing their jobs. Riley wants Maverick just as badly though, and the chemistry between them becomes harder to fight the more time they spend together.

I loved these two so much. Mav was sexy and there was so much more to him than you first see. I really liked what a good guy he was and straightforward he was. Riley was one of my favorite heroines that I have ever read. She was seriously awesome, strong and confident and unafraid to go after what she wanted. She wasn't afraid to admit that she liked sex and could have it without needing more. She wasn't afraid to risk her own life for others and work in a field that few women do. And I absolutely loved seeing her flirt with Mav and push his boundaries, knowing that he wanted her just as much. She was feisty and I just really enjoyed reading about her. These two had smoking hot chemistry and the connection between them just continued to grow the more they got to know one another and it felt very real and genuine.

Honestly, this was one of my favorite books I have read from Karina. I have loved everything I've read from her, but this book I just couldn't get enough of. I think a lot of that was that not only was the story really great, but the characters were just so much fun to read about and I felt so connected to them. They are unique and special and I didn't want their story to end. I definitely can't wait for Fox and Del's book next. This series is such that each book can be read as a standalone. I have enjoyed both books though and I would suggest reading them in order if possible, even though you don't need to. Trust me you won't want to miss out on any of these characters and this captivating world that Karina Halle has created.

I knew this book would be different than the first in the series, Wild Card. I just didn’t know how different , in the best possible way, it would be! After finishing Shane and Rachel’s story I couldn’t wait to get my hands on more Nelson brothers.

I absolutely loved how Riley was a different heroine than are in most stories. She was so fierce and independent. Constantly paving her own way and going after things she wants regardless of the limits attempted to be put on her. Even when times get tough, instead of moping about the situation she stands up straight and pushes through.

Maverick is so swoony!!!! I loved how much of an alpha he could be without being over the top or too Gaston like. He’s the leader of the British Columbia Search and Rescue Team and when Riley becomes the newest hire he doesn’t know what he’s in for. They are under a strict no-fraternization policy but they just might find a reason to break that.

I am obsessed with snow and mountains, and love reading about search and rescue. The setting was a complete winner for me. As in all of Karina’s books, reading them you feel like you are right there in the setting. This was a fast paced story with chemistry to die for.

Seeing what the other characters in the series were doing was a great addition to this story and I can’t wait to see what happens in Hot Shot.

Maverick by Karina Halle is the second book in the North Ridge Series. Book one, Wild Card is Shane and Rachel's book.
Every book in the series can easily be read as a standalone, there are only a few cross-over.
John " Maverick " Nelson is the second oldest of three brothers. We met his brother Shane in Wild Card, book one.
He's the leader of a search and rescue team in the mountains of North Ridge, British Columbia. He's charming, rugged edged, is good looking and has swagger. ONS he does, but relationships aren't his thing.

Riley Clarke is the newest member of the North Ridge search and rescue team, the only woman.
She and Maverick meet and have this crazy insta-everything. Insta- chemistry, -lust, -connection.
But there is a non fraternize rule in place. Both worked hard for their careers to just throw it all away over a meaningless fling.

Maverick is a intense emotional read. The book has the right amount of drama, tragedy and emotions for me. The story is great and the writing is brilliant. I love the words and the characters. You can feel the characters emotions in the words.
I recommend the book and the series and give 5 stars.
I can't wait to get my hands on Fox and Delilah's book. Thank you, Karina Halle!!

Karina Halle gives us the most AMAZING heroes - and John “Maverick” Nelson is one of my favorites! MAVERICK is book two in Halle’s North Ridge Series but it can be read as a standalone. I can completely vouch for that because this is the first book I’ve read in the series, but after devouring MAVERICK, I couldn’t purchase WILD CARD, book one, fast enough! Fast-paced, sexy as sin with plenty of suspense to go-round, MAVERICK was the complete package!

"I just know...the moment I touch you, that’s all I’ll ever want.”

Mav and Riley were GREAT characters - individually and as a couple. Their intense chemistry flew off of the pages. Their banter was flirtatious and sexy. Their stories, heartbreaking and beautiful. MAVERICK was an all-around solid romance. The supporting characters were great too! They captured my heart from the first page, enough for me to want to go back and read Shane and Rachel’s second-chance romance, and get me super pumped for book three coming early next year!

If you're looking for a heart-pounding, sexy, and sensual romantic escape, MAVERICK is the next book for you. I think you’ll fall HARD for Mav, Riley, and the rest of the crew, just as I did.

John “Mav” Nelson meets his match when Riley Clarke comes to work for him on North Ridge, Canada’s search and rescue team. She’s everything he never knew he wanted - tough, direct, beautiful and resilient - and their chemistry is strong enough to ignite a million fires. Both want each other, but a personal relationship is prohibited by their employer, although Riley is more than willing to take the risk and flirts shamelessly with Mav. He refuses to cross that line and risk losing their jobs, but sometimes love doesn’t abide by the rules. They share forbidden, fan-worthy interludes, and their feelings grow making them consider if being together is more important than even their careers.

Riley’s tough exterior and forthrightness hides her tender heart and a vulnerability that she rarely reveals, and Mav reaches her in a way no one else can. They share mutual respect and are equal partners making them a rock-solid team, both on the mountain in dangerous situations and in their personal lives facing everyday challenges. Maverick is a fast-paced, intense and drop-dead sexy romance punctuated with the adventure and suspense of search and rescue, and it is truly unputdownable.

A light read full of romance, hot flirting, humor, emotion and heart.

The second book in the North Ridge Series but can be read as a standalone. I found myself breezing through the pages but like they say time flies when you're enjoying yourself. Riley is strong and determined I love how she was bold and straight to the point but still has a vulnerability. Maverick is definitely an alpha extremely rugged sexy but has a bit of a soft romantic and just a bit cautious. The interaction between these two is like watching the fireworks bright burning passion with all different hues of emotions. I loved watching them play off each other the chemistry was just dynamic. The story is just the right amount of light hearted fun, comedy, tragedy, and passionate romance

"I just want to spend all my time talking to her, peeling all those layers back, seeing what this beautiful girl is hiding deep down. Because for all her bluntness and flirting and ballsy behaviour, I know she’s keeping some of herself tucked away. Maybe I’ll find out in time, maybe I won’t. But I want nothing more than to find it for myself."

Karina Halle uses these characters to highlight the fact that you can be fearless and intimated all at once. You can scale down an ice mountain to rescue others but can't risk falling for someone and allowing yourself to be vulnerable..to allow someone into your heart is a danger that may not be worth the fallout.

I fell hard for both Maverick and Riley. They were both strong, resilient people that loved their friends with all they have. Following danger to ensure the lives of others isn't something that selfish people often do. They mirrored each other in giving more than just the surface of who they are. Having lost important people in your life can definitely harden even the most loyal hearts.

Being privy to these two not only allowing the other into their lives, but falling hard enough to lose it all. I felt the heartache, friendship and totally appreciated the use of climbing rope and body parts. HOLY HOT. Smoking hot chemistry between these two burned brightly off my kindle pages. The kind of smoldering build of sexual tension that has you so wrapped up, you are literally in the office cheering them on. Can't wait for Fox's story.

Dang, Karina can write her butt off! When I saying devoured this book, I mean it. I finished this book in a couple of hours, if even that. I could not put Maverick down!

Maverick is many things, boss over Search and Rescue in his home town, sexy, and a ladies man. He's also about to get knocked on his butt by his new employee,Riley.

Riley loves the thrill of search and rescue and started by following her best friend Levi into it all and into Aspen. But after something happens Riley flees to Canada to start fresh. She just doesn't expect John Maverick Nelson.

I been waiting for Mav's story since we were first introduced to him in Wild Card, though this is a standalone I highly recommend reading about Shane and Rachel, anyways Mav was worth the wait as I imagine all the Nelson brothers are.

Karina has this uncanny ability to create the most amazing and believable chemistry between her characters and these two were electric. Everything about them felt organic and they set my Kindle on fire. I honestly didn't want this one to end!
