Rocked Up is a sweet, sexy, fun, edgy, forbidden rock star romance that sucked me in from start to finish. Co-written by Karina Halle and her husband, Scott MacKenzie, they've done a wonderful job and given us a cohesive, engaging and chemistry filled story with fantastic characters, great musical themes and a heartfelt, passionate romance. I loved it!

Lael Ramsay has been in love with Brad Snyder since she was a teenager. He is the lead singer of her favourite band, And Then, and she is infatuated with the sexy rock god. It helped that her father is the CEO of the band’s record label so she got to get up close and personal to her idol on more than one occasion. Now she’s all grown up – 21 and ready to take on the world. She has made a point of living her own life and doing what makes her happy, becoming a musician herself, and when she is given the opportunity to join Brad’s band as bassist for a two month road tour, she jumps at the chance.

Brad had a difficult childhood, but he always had a love for music and he was plucked out of obscurity and turned into a rock star by Lael’s father, Ronald. He and his band have achieved successful beyond his wildest dreams, and it doesn’t really bother him that Lael’s father takes full responsibility for Brad’s success and controls his career with an iron fist. Until Ronald’s wild daughter joins his tour and Brad is told to keep his hands off the wildly intriguing woman.

From the moment we see Lael and Brad together as adults, there is a wonderful chemistry between them. It’s a distant almost-friendship, but with an underlying ‘something’ that makes each encounter sizzle with anticipation, and once the tour starts and they are together 24/7, that friendship quickly becomes something so much more.

I loved this romance! It’s a slow-building, beautifully developing love story that is sweet, fun, romantic and all kinds of sexy. Lael and Brad have fun together, they connect on a deep level with their music, and the sexual tension is fantastic! But more than that, they are functional! They don’t hide their feelings or play games with each other, they accept what they are starting to mean to each other and they explore that for all they’re worth.

Brad Snyder has instantly shot up into my all-time favourite rock-star heroes. He’s not a manwhoring bad boy or a tormented soul – sure, he had a difficult childhood, but he’s made the most of his talent and he’s created a good life for himself without moping or dwelling on the past. But most of all, he has a huge heart, and combined with the fact that the man is sex on legs, he is completely irresistible!

There’s no huge surprise where the story is going to go, but I was surprised, and really happy, with the timing and pacing of the story. This isn’t a wham-bam situation, there is genuine emotion between Lael and Brad that grows naturally and is beautifully explored, and combined with the passion they have for each other, this is a hot, steamy and intense romance that I couldn’t get enough of. But everything between them has been happening behind closed doors. What happens when the secret gets out? And what are they willing to risk to get their happy ever after?

I loved this book. It’s fun, sexy, sweet and romantic with very little angst and a whole lot of chemistry. I loved the characters – the wildness and passion that Lael and Brad have for their music, and the way they live their lives, leaps off the page, equalled only by their passion for each other, which sucked me right into their love story. I loved the musical references which made me feel that I was part of an incredible concert experience, and the side characters that added so much to the story, and I loved that we got to see so much of the ‘after’ part of the story which finished everything off beautifully.

An absolutely fantastic read, I loved it!

I remember the days when my bedroom walls were covered in posters and magazine cut-outs of my favorite singers and bands, watching music videos, and dreaming about what it would be like to meet them. Rocked Up takes this familiar adolescent fantasy and brings it to life within the pages of Lael and Brad’s story.

Lael Ramsey is living out her dream. She’s been given the opportunity to tour with one of her favorite bands as their new bassist. What makes this gig even sweeter is that she will be playing alongside of her teenage crush, Brad Snyder. Of course, Lael is more mature than the fourteen-year-old girl who swooned every time she laid eyes on him or heard him sing, but that doesn’t make this opportunity any less thrilling. This is the chance of a lifetime, something that she has worked for, practiced relentlessly for. Her talent speaks for itself. She deserves this spot in the band, despite the fact that she is also the daughter of the CEO of Ramsey Records. Unfortunately, her dear old dad has only allowed her to have this opportunity as a way of satisfying her curiosity, letting her experience it for herself so that she can move on to better things – outside of the music industry.

Brad Snyder has hit the big time with his band, And Then. He went from being a lonely, poor kid to being the lead in one of the most popular bands. After his talent had been brought to the attention of Ronald Ramsey, Brad’s life was changed. But just like Lael, Brad’s life is constantly under the controlling, watchful eye of Ronald Ramsey.

Rocked Up is told in alternating chapters from Lael and Brad’s perspectives. I enjoyed this aspect of the book. It allows the readers to get a better understanding of each of the characters, to feel their emotions, to see the story unfold from both of their points of view.

I will admit, Brad was a refreshing rock star. He was doing what he loved, but he was not living the rock star lifestyle. Yes, the media was spinning their own tales of Brad Snyder, but it was all just manufactured gossip to keep him current and in the public eye. He wasn’t drinking or partying all the time, he wasn’t destroying hotel rooms, he wasn’t sleeping with different women with every stop of the tour bus. Brad was a lonely, vulnerable, sensitive man who still had trouble shedding the image of the boy he once was.

Lael and Brad had great chemistry. The more time they spent together, the deeper they fell. Despite Ronald Ramsey’s threats if they became romantically involved, Lael and Brad couldn’t help but succumb to their attraction.

Rocked Up is a fun, lighthearted romance that showcases the musical love and knowledge of the authors. While it does have a forbidden element to it, it isn’t filled with angst or tension. It is an entertaining read with characters that you will be cheering for from beginning to end.

***4 ‘Just Be’ Stars***

When Karina Halle announces that she has a new book coming out the greedy grabby hands start to twitch and when that book is one that she is co-authoring (for the first time ever) with her hubby, Scott MacKenzie, then the full on grabbiness starts because you have to see what they come up with and Rocked Up is a quick, sweet and smexy read that is light on drama but heavy on heart with some great laugh out loud moments that kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next on Brad and Lael’s journey towards their HEA.

Brad is a big time rock star and yet he’s not really engaged in all the hoopla that comes with it. He is, at heart, a musician who simply loves to play what he wants to play. He appreciates all that he has, but it’s the creative side that speaks to his soul. He’s got a good heart and yet there is a….naiveté to him that is surprising and yet endearing at the same time.

Lael surprised me, in a good way, but she was that mix of what I expected and yet didn’t see coming, but loved. Her upbringing definitely wasn’t the norm, but I loved how she took control of her own destiny the second she was able to. She had her insecurities and yet her confidence, determination to achieve her dreams and sense of adventure cancelled them out.

I really enjoyed how Brad and Lael’s relationship evolved and grew throughout the book. It was sweet, smexy and fun and though there was some drama, it wasn’t uber angsty and was handled quite maturely. Despite Lael’s crush, it wasn’t an insta thing at all though it wasn’t a slow burn either. It was simply a matter of two people constantly colliding, finding that they enjoyed being with each other and that they fit together despite their differences.

The story was well paced and everything flowed very well. The supporting cast of characters were all well written and though I can’t say I have an absolute favorite, the one that intrigued me the most was Roar. And though there were a few things I would have liked to go a bit deeper in it, this was still a fun, quick, smexy and in the end, sweet read.

Rocked Up is a fun, sexy, and sweet rockstar romance! I love Karina Halle and when I heard she was co-writing a book with her husband, Scott MacKenzie, I was anxious to read it. I love a good rockstar romance and a surprise pregnancy book, so I had feeling I would enjoy it, and I was right! I was really impressed with the flow of the book. Sometimes when a book is written by two people, you can tell. The flow is off and the tone of the story doesn’t jive. I had no issues with that in Rocked Up whatsoever. The flow was great and I loved the chapters from both Brad and Lael’s pov.

Lael Ramsey has had a thing for rock star Brad Snyder since she was a teen. She’s grown up now, and an aspiring rocker herself. Lael’s father is the manager for Brad’s band, and Lael talks her dad into getting her an audition for the band. They are in need of a bass player, and that is Lael’s instrument of choice.

When Lael auditions, only Brad knows she is Lael Ramsey. I appreciated the fact that Lael really did want to make it on her own. I loved her character. Brad is a hard worker and not your typical rocker in many ways. He’s not into drugs or booze or any of that. He’s concentrated on his music first and foremost. Until Lael comes along. Then he finds it hard to concentrate on anything other than her.

I loved the chemistry between this couple. They fought to be together. Brad was amazing. He was my favorite character of the book and I loved being in his head. He was hesitant about falling for Lael, or anyone for that matter, but the more he fell for her, the more he realized that when you really love someone, you’ll give up anything for them. They become the most important thing in your world *sigh*

Overall, Rocked Up was a well written, fast paced, romance. It had just a bit of drama, a lot of love, and was a sweet read!

Co-writing for the first time, married duo, Karina Halle and Scott MacKenzie take the reader on tour with rock god Brad Snyder and one of his biggest fans, Lael Ramsey.

Brad Synder's group And Then needs a bassist. Lael Ramsey just happens to play bass. Lael's father, Ronald Ramsey, is the head of Ramsey Records where And Then is signed. Talk about complicated!

I was impressed by the cohesive writing of Halle and MacKenzie. The flow between pov's is seamless. Yet overall the voices were different enough to clearly know that two distinct authors wrote Rocked Up. Witty, engaging, charming all come to mind.

You can feel Halle's writing envelope you with her distinctive descriptive scenic prose. I always feel as though I'm being transported to whatever location the characters are currently in. It can be anywhere from the backstage of a concert venue to a café in New Orleans to the inside of a tour bus.

I think the main reason this story worked for me, was that MacKenzie really embraced Brad's character. Making him not just a rock star but making him real. Brad's character could have been easy. He's a star. Loud, garish, tattooed, partier could have been used easily. Instead we get someone intrinsically human, lonely, almost childlike. I say childlike because Brad didn't have a "normal" childhood and doesn't really have a normal adult life either. He's just sort of stuck in a really good life but one that's missing something.

I liked that Lael was able to reach Brad and connect with him as Brad the man and not Brad the rocker. They both grow up together in many ways in this story. While there weren't any surprises in where it was going, it was nonetheless a really great story. Easy to read, leaving me wishing there was more to their story.

Another amazing book by Karina Halle and knowing that her husband, Scott Mackenzie wrote it with her, AMAZING!! Rocked Up is filled with humor, passion, music and heart.

Lael is the type of female lead character that I enjoy reading. She is feisty, strong willed, her own person, not afraid to take risks, loves music and is generally an all around good and kind person. She doesn't leech off of her dad or use her last name to get ahead. She works hard and isn't afraid to prove people wrong about that. I loved that she respects music and how passionate she is about making her own sound.

Brad is a broody @$$hole who has been in the music industry a long time, but somewhere along the way, lost himself and the reasons why he loved music in the first place. Brad just wants to make his own music; you can take away all the lights, cameras and fame and Brad will still just want to make his own music. I think it really hits home to him, how lost he got when he receives devastating news about his friend/mentor's death. Lael helps him find his way again and I loved that Brad wasn't scared to show his emotions to Lael and he wasn't scared that she was his boss's daughter. He made her prove herself and saw how hard she worked. He respected her and their passion for music led to other, more intimate passions.

Karina Halle & Scott Mackenzie really took a normal rockstar romance and made it into a funny & heartfelt book about two people searching for where they belong and finding out who they truly are. The passion and friendship between Brad and Lael was strong and beautiful to read about. I think Karina Halle & Scott Mackenzie need to co-write some more books together, because I truly enjoyed this book!!

I went into Rocked Up with little information, knowing only it contained a rockstar and an unwanted pregnancy. While it features the forbidden love story of a lead singer and a music executive's daughter, it didn't feel like the typical rockstar romance. Brad Synder doesn't require groupies, drugs, and over the top antics that seem to plague this trope. Lael is a confident and talented woman, ready to prove her abilities. I enjoyed every moment of this light hearted story and have a new appreciation for the husband and wife writing duo of Mackenzie and Halle.

"Welcome to the world of rock and roll."

The book unfolds with alternating points of view from Brad and Lael. I had fun guessing, but Karina confirmed that Scott wrote Brad's chapters, while she wrote Lael. Even though there are two authors, the book flows well and the characters stay true to form, regardless of the point of view. Lael is a strong, determined heroine and does not allow her father's power to influence her life. Even though she's 21, she feels like an old soul. I adored her immensely. Brad is a unassuming hero, and I loved how different he was from 99% of the rockstars I've read. He's loyal and caring, and I never once doubted his feelings for Lael. Brad definitely shines, showing even rockstars can be thoughtful and caring. It was a refreshing experience on a trope I gave up on long ago.

"Self-destruction is very nineties. I would shine if I were you."

My only complaint is I wish the book were longer. I would have liked a few extra chapters for key events, but I always prefer detailed over fast paced. This is the first work I've read from Scott Mackenzie, and I was impressed. If you're looking for a feel good romance with minimal angst, I recommend giving this one a try. I hope to see more collaborations from Karina and Scott in the future.

Rocked Up is the first book co-authored for Karina Halle and Scott Mackenzie. For lovers of the music scene and rock-star world, this book will be enjoyable.

Brad is lead singer of the band And Then and the hero of the book. Like all musicians, he is excellent at his craft and is courageous, especially when it comes to protecting Lael. Even with a rough background, Brad has turned into a really honorable and respectable hero.

Lael, the heroine, has always been on the outside of the music industry looking in as a result of her protective father, a music industry mogul. She, however, gets the opportunity of a life-time when she goes on tour with her favorite musician, Brad. While she has this overprotective father, she doesn’t let him slow her down. She chases her goals, and she spends a great deal of time earning her spot.

The story starts out with components of insta-love, but she is also a teenager, so who hasn’t had inst-crushes? When they meet again many years later, the connection is still there for her, and he quickly follows suit. The authors, however, use a bit of delayed gratification by making them friends before lovers, allowing readers to see them as a couple versus two people chasing physical gratification. The conflict is something readers will see coming, but it is resolved well, leaving the readers with an entertaining experience.

Rocked Up is a fun, light, and generally quick read. The mix of romance and comedic moments makes this one a worthwhile read.

This was Karina Halle and Scott Mackenzie's first collaboration and just like Lael and Brad (the heroine and hero in the in this story) they worked beautifully together.

This is not your usual rock star novel. Brad does not get caught up in the trappings that come with being the lead singer of a prominent and very successful band. There are no groupies, mindless sex with countless nameless women, there are no drugs or drunken stupor. This is what
made it so refreshing to read! Brad was a quite soul who didn't say much but was very driven in his goals. When Lael came into his life and he realised she was the one for him he was willing to sacrifice his band and fame just so that they could be together.

Lael was a real spitfire who I'm sure could talk underwater with a mouth full of marbles. She was confident in herself and her talent as a musician. I really loved her spunk. These 2 opposites in personality but not in talent were great together on and off the stage and my only wish is that the book was a little longer so I could spend more time in their world.

There was no unnecessary drama or separation driving the story and it was pretty fast paced. Scott Mackenzie's knowledge of music was clearly evident in the writing, but I must admit I did miss the extra detail about the surroundings and places the characters visit that Karina usually brings to her books.

This was a great light and feel good read and I hope that Karina and Scoot will co-write more books with each other in the not too distant future.

5 Stars

Rocked Up is a rockin’ standalone by Karina Halle and Scott MacKenzie. It pulls you from the first page as we begin to learn the pasts of our sexy couple.

Lael (beautiful rocker female name) lost her mother when she was young and is left with her father to raise her. Even though he wants what’s best for her and to protector her from the rocker stars he deals with daily, he’s on the verge of losing her. Lael is lonely and just wants to follow her dreams. Her father is too consumed with his company to deal with his daughter and her silly dreams.

Brad Snyder is the definition of a rock star created by a ruthless man. Brad’s talent is discovered at a young age and is influenced by a man who Brad considers a father. When Brad is finally makes it big he doesn’t realize he is more of a brand than a person. His life is no longer his but his music is the only thing that keeps him grounded.

Lael and Brad have a common factor in the man that she knows as her father and Brad knows as the man who keeps him the spotlight.

Rocked Up is the story of forbidden love. It’s unlike any other rock star story I’ve read in a while. It’s funny and sexy. The way she talks and blabbers cracked me up and when Brad admits that he likes that about her, I couldn’t help but love him more.

The characters are well developed including the supporting characters. Baby Groot was an added bonus.

It goes without saying, but when Karina Halle writes something, I'm definitely going to read it. Throw in help from her husband who co-wrote the book, well, that just takes this delightful romance to the next level! For me, Karina Halle and romantic comedy never went together, until this book! I'm not sure if this is a first for her in this genre, or if I'm missing something, but what Karina and Scott did here with Brad and Lael's story was simply magnetic! These two characters pulled me in and just wouldn't let go. This RomCom Rockstar Romance was the absolute perfect escape!

"I want to break all the rules with you."

I just ADORED Lael from the very start. Strong-willed, sassy, and strong, she took these pages by storm! And don't even get me started on the sexy Brad Snyder. He is not your typical rockstar god, and he may have known little Lael from when she was very young, but he is not looking at her now with the same eyes. There is a light within her that he wants to grab onto and never let go. Their journey is a hilarious one...a hella' sexy one...and an emotional one. I was intrigued from the start which is not hard to believe seeing who one of the authors is. I LOVED it! I want MORE of it! I hope this writing duo team up again, because what they put out into the world was FANTASTIC, and we need MORE OF IT!

Rocked Up was my second novel by Karina Halle and my first by Scott Mackenzie. I enjoyed the concept of the story and I really liked the characters. It had been a while since I had read a rock star romance, and I liked returning to the world of music. There were definitely aspects of the book that I liked more than others, and I didn't care for Lael's father at all, but luckily none of it was too bad or annoying and I really enjoyed the book.

Brad and Lael were very likable, relatable and entertaining characters, and I enjoyed reading the story from both of their points of view. I liked the close bond and relationship they had with each other, and I liked how it progressed throughout. Their chemistry together, both on and off the stage, was amazing and certainly undeniable. The book was missing a certain spark that prevented me from giving it five stars, but I really enjoyed reading Brad and Lael's love story and I was very happy with the conclusion.

Rocked Up was not my favorite book that I've read by Karina Halle so far, but it will certainly not be the last. I loved her writing style and I am extremely looking forward to reading more of her books very soon!

This book became my obsession for an entire day!

It was so refreshing to read a book about a rock singer that was nice, respectful and basically just acted like a normal dude instead of being over the top alpha male who is obsessed with possessing a girl or something like that.

This book is written in dual perspective so we get both sides of the story which was super interesting because what they were going through throughout the book was very similar, I mean they had the same experiences but from Lael’s PoV we got to read about being new in a successful rock band, what it was like for her to play her first big show and trying to navigate the attention from the media, and on the other side we have Brad who has been doing this for some time now and is a bit jaded by it all.

I honestly loved this book, they writing from both of them was brilliant, you could tell that Karina was writing Lael and Scott was writing Brad and that to me was super cool because you truly get both perspectives you know?

Anyway, if you enjoy a good rocker book with lots of sexy times and also some laughs I highly recommend that you read this book, and if you haven’t read anything by Karina Halle, you seriously should, her contemporary books are some of my favorites EVER!

This was the first collaboration between Karina Halle and her husband Scott Mackenzie and I absolutely loved it! I thought the writing flowed effortlessly. Rocked Up was a fun, intense, standalone, about a rock-star with a past he would rather forget and a girl wanting to be able to do what she wants. Told in both alternating points of view, this is also a collaboration between Karina Halle and her husband Scott Mackenzie. Usually I'm a sucker for Rock-Star romances, even though I enjoyed this one I did have some issues. One being while I was reading was that it was a bit rushed, but overall it was a cute love story. Lael and Brad's friendship was bittersweet to read as It became so much more.

I'm not completely turned off by this book. However things happened that I need more about. I really more of a rockstar pregnancy than this book offered. She doesn't find out she's pregnant until more than halfway through the book, so if that's your draw, you might be disappointed. What happened between Lael and her dad? Was everything just cool between them? If so she's better than me.

Another great Halle romance! I loved Lael and Brad. Loved that she's amazingly talented in a male-dominated field. Loved seeing them come together. Loved the beginning, middle and end!! I devoured this book. I seen where a friend of mine Kathy gave this book 5 Stars and I just knew I had to read it. She's my book buddy lol.
Lael is the daughter of a music industry tyrant!! He controls everything. It is his way or threats are made. You would think a father would want his only daughter to find herself and be happy. She gets to audition for her favorite band "And Then" which BTW is a really weird name for rock group. She can rock the bass!! She gets the job of a lifetime.
Brad a talented lead singer of the group and oh so sexy. He is discovered at 14 and No turning back. Until he meets a teal haired gorgeous girl. Oh he knows her just not the grown version of his labels daughter.
Ultimatums are thrown, all could be lost for these two if they get together. What happens to two people when they are controlled by one person?? Guess what read the book. I read this in one sitting and devoured it. So give it a try I think you'll love it!
