I almost never write reviews because I usually forget what title goes with what story. However, this book was SO incredibly bad I won't forget it quickly enough. Kept hoping it would get better and now I wish I had those hours of my life back. When I fell asleep mid-read I should have just deleted it off my tablet instead of continuing. I have no idea what time period this was supposed to be - at one point they talk about a gown that only goes to her knees and the stockings would hide the rest??? This could have been written by a 13 year old girl. I don't mind when these historical romances take some creative liberty but this book just took liberty. The dialogue was inane, the story never developed and yet it went on and on. I can't believe it got as many stars as it did. I think it had to be one of the worst books I've ever read. Truly. Thank goodness it was a prime read and I didn't spend any money on it.

This book was honestly a huge disappointment to me. I'm certain there are people out there who would disagree with me and enjoy reading such a book as there wasn't one drastically terrible thing about it but rather many little outputting aspects that made reading and finishing this book a chore for me. To begin with I did not care for the writers style of writing, she jumped from perspective to perspective in the middle of scenes and the writing seemed repetitive and uninspiring. The main characters portrayal bothered me at times, I feel as though even she as the primary character was underdeveloped as a believable person. The storyline was also dragged out greatly in the beginning before you ever meet the "hero" of the story and yet then the second they are near one another it's instantly love and plans for marriage. The development of their feelings and relationship was rushed, unbelievable and unsatisfying. Overall I would not recommend this book, and will never read it again personally.

Iris suffered a terrible loss with her mother when she passed. It was so traumatic that she avoided all society functions and kept to her room in isolation. As her father agreed to let Iris shy away from everyone; one day her father called her into his office and devulged to her that he is very sick and wouldn't live much longer. He made arrangements for her to marry Duke Loftus Pembroke. Terrified of marrying him; she trades places with Daisy her maid; but more importantly her best friend. How does this turn out? Read the book as I did. Very well written and the story flowed smoothly.

Her mother is dead, her father is dying, and Iris is being forced out of her comfy shell into a marriage she does not want. Her trusted companion, a kitchen maid named Daisy, tries to make it better. But when her father dies before she can even meet the man he has arranged for her to marry, Iris gets desperate, and Daisy helps her fool everyone. But how do they do it and can they keep it up forever? Especially if Iris ever finds someone to truly love and who loves her back? (Note: I reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.)

I really wanted to like this book because although the premise has been done many times before, I still enjoy reading reading these kinds of romance novels especially if they are historical novels. Having said that, This book was a huge disappointment and had to force myself to finish it. The main issue I had with this book is the dialogue and characters' demeanor were inaccurate for the time period it was set in. They were talking like it was now and not back in the day. This was a clinched nightmare. Add to that the implausibility of two characters switching place and names for this entire adulthood, a titled Lord walking away from his estates, and both characters ignoring any grief they might cause their families and you have this worthless book. The low born servant switching places with a lady and marrying a duke was ridiculous. Numerous grammatical errors to annoy anyone with half a brain. I thought it would be a Shakespearean switch and all would be resolved, but no! Are this to the trash heap of bad fiction!

Too many slow reading sections of main character's self analysis. Often repetitive and boring. Also uses too many modern American expressions to accurately portrait a feel for the intended period. I only finished reading because am slightly obsessed with completing books.

Some of the language was off throughout the book. Uses of words like "wow" and phrases like "freak out" are definitely out of place in this time period. A quick fix of those sort of mistakes and I would give this book 5*. :)

I loved this book. The characters come to life and pull you into a world of their own. The story was so easy to follow and I liked their development. I thought Iris was such a strong person after how she spent her teen years. It was also a wonderful story with lots of heart.

I did not engage with the main character in the book. I wanted to like her but found her very anoying. I like to read to be entertained and sadly a timid main person does not do it for me.

Received an advance copy from NetGalley.
Overall a good story, but some of the dialogue was not written to the time period and was kind of strange. The characters were OK, if a little whiny, and the story seemed to drag in some area.

I really enjoyed this book. It was very well written. The story was tangled and messy. Not pristine and perfect like so many romances out there. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book in exchange for a free copy.

I did not mind the unrealistic plot and the characters were like-able, but it should have been much shorter. The emotional descriptions and overblown inner monologs grew tedious and I skipped pages just to keep interested.
