This is a good series. The life of Uhtred continues to be compelling reading. He has much to put up with but manages to come through stronger than ever. He's a strong character and you can't help but like him even if you don't agree with his actions.

After having been turned on to the Saxon Tales by a friend, I have read up to this point in a matter of months. Being a History buff, it is great to see the gritty underbelly that Bernard Cornwell writes about, which is a nice departure from the lighter fantasy I also consume.

Lords of the North is a great continuation of the overall Storyline, with a more seasoned and weary Uhtred facing more canny foes.

Definitely recommend if you are a fan of the series!

Bernard Cornwell is the best author of historical fiction I have ever encountered. He keeps the story exciting and edge of your chair.
All of his books read like a thriller and it's very hard not to just keep on turning the page. If you have never tried his novels you are in for a real treat.
Letters for Emily :: The Orphan Keeper :: The Sorcerer's Concubine (The Telepath and the Sorcerer) (Volume 1) :: Kushiel's Chosen: A Novel (Kushiel's Legacy) :: Orphan Hero: A Novel of the Civil War

Great series by Bernard Cornwell. This is # 3 in the series. Excellent narrative and dialogue. Interesting portrayal of time when the new Christian religion started to pull away from the old Norse Gods.

This is the third book in the Saxon Tales series, after The Last Kingdom and The Pale Horseman, which follows the anti-hero and pagan warrior Uthred. Unexpected plot twists, sword-slinging battles, blood feuds, brilliant curses, Christians vs. pagans and Danes vs. Saxons all enhance the engaging narration of the brutal Uthreds voice. Testosterone drive action doesn't get any better than this. I loved this book!

I absolutely loved the Saxon series. Could not believe my luck in finding an 8 book series that I had yet to read. Caution, when I was done with this series I bought another one of his books, and it was very boring.

The third book in the Saxon Series puts Uhtred through the most difficult personal challenge he will ever face. He develops friendships th that he will have throughout the life of the 10 book series. Please read the Last Kingdom and the Pale Horseman before you ge to the Lords of the North.

I discovered Bernard Cornwell about 5 months ago. My discovery started with his "Saxon Chronicles" (my name for this collection). Since then I have read every one of his books relating to Alfred the Great and his protagonist (Uhtred). There is no doubt in my mind that I will move on to his other series.

This is the 3rd installment of the Saxon Tales and Uhtred of Bebbanburg. Cornwell continues to spin a great story based on mostly historical events. I really wonder why this has never been brought to the screen. Highly recommended if yolike historical novels.

This is an amazing series! Cromwell has created believable characters mixed with historical figures. I am really enjoying learning about this period of Alfred the Great which is all new to me as I had previously been stuck in the Middle Ages.

Very interesting take on the Camelot legends. Thank you for listing the names of characters, places and a map at the front of the book as I had trouble with the strange spellings. I copied those pages to facilitate my reading until I learned the names.

I got hooked by Bernard Cornwell with his Agincourt and just kept reading more of his books. His Saxon Chronicles are even better. it is problably the best historic novel reading i ever found. after you are over with the book, at the end, you can still delight yourself with his Historical Notes. it is a fantastic and fun way way to learn a bit about history. i simply love it and plan to read everything he wrote.

I was disappointed when I completed the series. I was hoping for more of the story. I could have gone on and on with this epic in the lives of our forbearers. It was really hard to put down and enveloped me for several weeks.

For some reason I have started this book several times; but just have not been able to get interested in the story. I've found so many books that are better; just haven' made my self settle down and read it. When and if I ever get into it will review.

Uhtred is one of the most interesting heroes of a series I have ever encountered, and he is gradually maturing from a sophomore football hero to something more complex. The slantwise view of Alfred the Great and the events of his career are fascinating. Cornwell makes battle scenes so realistic-seeming that they result in physiological reactions. I'm looking forward to more.

Bernard Cornwell remains a master at describing ancient battle scenes and bringing them to life in a historically accurate fictional context. The plot has exciting political twists with realistic shades and nuances that makes them seem like historical fact. Read these books and don't forget to remind yourself that they are very realistic and fun fiction. Can fictional stories be better than the best real ones? These books certainly bolster the argument.

I enjoy historical novels. The characters he develops pull you in to the story and you don't want to leave. The only thing that I did not like about the story is the author's strong mocking bias against Christianity.

I loved Books 1 and 2, the narrator was excellent. But this guy makes the story should like a kid's book. I hope the next book has the change back to the original narrator. I can't concentrate on the story because of the narrator...such a shame.

Cornwell is probably the best historical fiction writer today. This a very good series well written ans as always historically correct. This is by far my favorite series that corwell writes and I can't wait to the new book comes out. If you like historical fiction this is a great book.

Cornwall has a way of bringing his stories to life and having you feel a part of history. The book holds its strength throughout, and leaves you wanting yet another tale. Which is exactly where I am going.

If you are interested in Viking lore or the history of England, you should really check this series out. This book continues the story of Uhtred and Alfred and is very hard to put down once you start.

Another really good read from Bernard Cornwell. He graphically portrays the story throughout with clear imagery of what happens from chapter to chapter. Previous books and reference to events that occurred in his other novels are explained to those who have yet to read books linked to the series. Well done
