I loved this book, Bethany Shaw has created a well written book with great strong characters. The inner action and background of the characters is great. It definitely gives you a good background going forward in the series.
I love the conflict between the brothers and Devon and Emmett. Devon and Lark seem to have a on again off again interest. Will Devon learn to trust again? Will Lark and Devon finally accept there love? Can Devon stop Emmett's plans for his sister Emily? This story has made me need to read the rest of the series. This is a must read at 5 stars.

Loved this book! Great first book from a brand new author.

Devon is a hard headed alpha who has been prevented from taking the head roll in the pack by his step father. He risks everything to save his sister from a life that no woman would want.

Lark is the sweet girl next door, bakery shop owner with the weight of the world on her shoulders. When she meets Devon she is instantly pulled towards his rugged appearance. She may be sweet, but she definitely didn't take his crap which is one of the things I loved about her.

Face paced read, with all the excitement of werewolves, wars, romance and some steamy bedroom scenes.

Looking forward to the next book in the series.

The inter-pack politics are very interesting. As befitting of something called "Werewolf Wars," the political intrigue is very well-done and caused me to raise my eyebrows a few times. Urban fantasy fans should give this one a look, definitely.

I loved the relationship between Devon and Lark. It was build beautifully by the author by a slow build up of humor and sexual attraction. I love a good shifter book and this one was nice. Besides Lark and Devon it had a array of characters that keep me interested and a well crafted plot. I'm definitely going to look into the next book into this series.

The storyline was one of interest. The characters weren't too bad. The chemistry, attraction, and dialogue between the main characters weren't as appealing as I thought it could of been. The main characters interactions were bland to me. There was really no feelings/emotions there. I like being able to feel the anger, sadness, etc. emotions of each characters and feel as if I'm living in the story, not just reading it. I am happy to say that there were key points that made me smile, such as what happened to Emmet. Like I said not awesome but not bad. It's worth a try.

I don't usually read shifter romances but this was worth it. The length of the book was good, interaction and dialogue good between characters. Many adventures with action that kept me engrossed throughout. If you want a book that's hard to put down this is a good one.

When I read fiction my expectation is to be entertained. Out of the Shadows (A Werewolf Wars Novel) by Bethany Shaw meets my expectation. My interest was piqued immediately and I was never let down. The pace was good and the characters intriguing. This looks to be the first in a series and I am looking forward to the next installment - Into the Unknown.

I enjoyed reading this book. Werewolves and regular folks band together to fight a growing menace threatening the women of the group. I did not like the abrupt ending designed to force me onto the next book. If this is not an issue for you it's a nice easy read.

I have always been a hardcore vampire fangirl but I do believe Bethany Shaw has given me cause to change over to Team Werewolf! The love interest of this book is between Devon (a werewolf) and Lark (a human). They are both hard headed, stubborn, and above all, loyal and protective over their family. Devon was treated like the black sheep growing up except for when he spent summers with his uncle. Lark has been raised in a loving household until her parents died leaving her to raise her younger sister. Despite Devon's upbringing, he was still loyal and protective over his siblings. Devon and Lark meet under bad circumstances but still cannot deny the attraction they feel for one another as the story progresses.

The story going on along with the love affair of Devon and Lark is amazing. You get thrown deep into a raging war between werewolf packs that revolve around Devon's stepfather and half-siblings. Devon's stepfather is power hungry and making deals with neighboring packs that will cause you to want to attack as well! It's an adventure packed story that keeps you on edge to see what happens next!

This was a very spontaneous read. I received Out of the Shadows via the Kindle Loan option from a fellow blogger. I am not really sure how this works (from the sending side) but I will figure it out as I think this is awesome.

Out of the shadows is an enjoyable read. There are some great unique elements to the story but also a lot of predictability. Werewolf books can sometimes be a hit and miss for me but this was not the case with Out of the Shadows. For anyone for who loves a good werewolf novel and a broody alpha male mixed with romance - this book is for you!

Characters & Story line: 3.5/5
Bethany creates good strong characters. The story line is interesting and takes you on a few emotional twists and turns.

Lark and Devon's romance was a bit predictable. Devon being the strong, brooding, wounded alpha with some issues - who keeps people at bay and Lark who is strong, compassionate and challenges him. They have a steamy and unexplainable attraction with a few steamy scenes. They definitely grow on you as the story progresses - by the last half of the book I was definitely rooting for them.

Emily and Marcus are such a sweet couple and you are rooting for them from the beginning. Vincent is one of my favourite characters - he is your lone wolf, flirty, younger (brother) wolf. He is observant, caring, cheeky and entertaining. Gene is a great character in the book. He is kind and strong. He plays a stronger part in the latter part of the book and I am really looking forward to his role in 'Into the Unknown'.

Plot, Pace, Writing style: 3.5/5
Bethany has a great pace and a nice writing style. The plot was intriguing and kept you reading to see what happens next - even though the predictability did slow things down a bit for me. The ending left quite a bit to work with in the next book.

Cover talk: 3/5
The cover was OK. Once I had read the book I appreciated the cover a little bit better.

Final Thoughts:
Although I am not immediately one-clicking to buy the next sequel I am really intrigued to see Gene & Talia's story, as well as what the Gulf packs have planned for Lark and Sarah.

Devon & Lark. This is the introduction novel to the Werewolf Wars by Bethany Shaw. It was convoluted and suspenseful. And this book had way too much story and characters up the wazoo. I kept feeling that I should write them all down to keep everyone straight for the subsequent books. But somehow, it all flowed. All except the hot romantic stuff. I was so aware of the state of affairs and who belonged to whom, when, and why, that the hot romance escaped me. And I was disappointed. But not for long. The interaction between the hero & heroine is great...despite being human and nonhuman. I was confused as to why the human sisters became so important to strangers?? I still am ruminating on it. And fearing for the sub characters who stories are yet to be told. These yellow -eyed werewolves are not as attractive as their green-eyed alter-egos.

Out of the Shadows is an interesting read. I really enjoyed the way the characters were developed. The show courage, strength, love and comittment to each other and their families. Lark is raising her younger sister after her parents pass away and she owns her own bakery. Devon is a werewolf who has a rough upbringing and would do anything to protect his younger sister, even go against his family and pack. Devon and his sister and two younger brothers flee their home and go to Texas to find sanctuary with Devon's uncle Rick. They face numerous dangers. Devon finds that he is attracted to young Lark and is fighting his feeling because of the war that is coming from his stepfather and his pack. Devon has some definate issues he needs to work through from his past and he doesn't really want to envolve a human girl in his past or what is coming in his near future. However, the attraction he has to Lark is something he just can't avoid. There is plenty of adventure and some really hot scenes. This book is an excellent read and I can't wait to see what happens in the next book in the series. I definately recommend this read and really enjoyed it.

This turned out so much better than I first thought! From the first sentence I was enchanted with it, enough I stayed up all night to see what happens! It kept up a steady pace, and lots of action!

Lark ~ She comes off as timid and shy, but she surprises you when you truly get to know her! She has more fight in her then most people combined! She deals with everything she is dealt over the couple of months the best way she knows how. Even though she loses Rick, whom she looks at as a father figure she deals with it calmly and maturely! I personally thought the fighting between her and Devon was funny, the way they would go from insulting each other to complimenting each other.

Devon ~ The silent alpha in training, and that is exactly how he is! He's so quiet and brooding that at first its hard to get a good read on him, but once you get to know him he's actually a great guy! He had a s***ty upbringing but he uses it to channel all his aggression. He tries to fight the pull he feels toward Lark to no avail. I loved his sense of family, loyalty, courage, love!

Till next time ~ Sweets Books

Out of the Shadows the first in the Werewolf Wars series. Devon and his siblings, Vincent and Emily, and friend, Marcus, escape from his stepfather Emmett's pack where things had grown intolerable. Having nowhere else to go, they head for his Uncle Rick's ranch, where Rick is Alpha of his pack. Rick agrees to give them sanctuary, despite the danger that will now be brought down on his pack. He agrees that Emmett is going way too far and must be dealt with. Feisty Lark is a human who has known about the wolves for a long time and, in fact, her sister is dating one of Rick's sons. While Devon deals with his past and fights his attraction to Lark, Emmett needs Emily back and will stop at nothing to get her. Out of the Shadows is an easy to read story which is hard to put down once you get into it. The characters, and secondary characters, are engaging and the plot is well done. A great set-up to a new series

This story was packed with action, romance, and drama. It was an awesome read.I really enjoyed the plot line and the story. The character were great. I love the love they had for one another to save each other. They really developed with the story and you got to know them. It had its up and down where you were feeling what the characters felt as they were experiencing them. This is definitely a story that can get stuck in your head and that you will keep wanting to experience. I also enjoyed learning about the sisters and how they both are in love with the two men. Devon seemed the perfect mate for Lark and the same could be said about Lark to Devon. I also enjoyed Emily and Marcus in the story. I love how comical and charming Vincent was in the story as well. All the characters made this story great. It also had some surprises that were in store that even made it better. I can't wait till I read the next book in the story. I can't wait to see who is the traitor that is in their midst. I look forward to learning more about Gene and in the next story. If you love paranormal, romance, and drama then I suggest you check this book out.

The first book in the Werewolf Wars is a mesmerizing romance that captures the heart. In an attempt to save his sister, Devon Harris defies his alpha and flees his home with his sister laying the foundation for a war between the packs. Sole guardian of her sister and owner of a bakery, Lark Davies has little time for a social life, but she instantly feels an attraction to Devon even though they are constantly at odds. However she is drawn deeper into the werewolf world as danger lurks around every corner, putting her and Devon in close contact.

This steady to fast paced plot keeps readers hovering in anticipation throughout the story with lots of suspense, action, drama and romance. The author uses well written scenes and events to inspire vivid images and capture the imagination. The events and action scenes are well orchestrated and believable making it easy for the reader to get caught up in the escalating danger and the characters are strong, compelling, easily understood and grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning.

The attraction between Devon and Lark slowly simmers as the story progresses and the relationship has fireworks going off in every direction as the two engage in heated arguments, snarky dialogue and general disagreeing behavior. The reader can’t help but get emotionally caught up in their story and truly empathizes with Devon and his past, of course that doesn’t mean that they can overlook the fact that he is one stubborn wolf, it’s a good thing that Lark is a perfect match and the reader can certainly admire her strength and courage.

The author has created a fascinating world of werewolves with dangerous undertones and twists and captivating characters that have the reader wanting to know more. I was completely engrossed in the story and couldn’t put it down until I read the very last word and I can’t wait to find out what happens in the war between the packs in the next book.

The Author Bethany Shaw gifted this book to me for an honest review.

This is a very well written story that kept me reading till I finished, wondering and hoping that Lark would finally crack Devon, boy was he hard to crack though....

He is on a mission to save his family, but has to endure much heartache to do so, more than he has already endured throughout his life. That is why he is so hard, but one person manages to break through.. He has a great battle ahead of him, in love and war.

There was action and lots of love, hate and intrigue in this story. although I can't wait to read the next in this series, I must say that Ms Shaw managed to make this a very enjoyable way to start a series, it was not fast and short like others I have read, but very in depth and revealing about the characters and what lays ahead. I'm going to start the next book in this series now and I know I am going to enjoy it more than this one.

There are so many hurtles that lay ahead for this new Alpha.

And the Wars begin.

This is book one in the Werewolf Wars.

Out of the Shadows by Bethany Shaw

In her debut novel, Shaw has written a paranormal romance that includes werewolves, feuding packs, and the humans who know about them.

Devon is the stepson of an alpha male wolf, Emmett. His mother, Claire, has done what she could to protect him from his tyrannical father, but his siblings, Vincent and Emily, are in danger, especially his sister. Female pack members are a rare commodity and are used as breeders to form alliances. When Emmett promises Emily to one of the largest most vile packs, the Gulf Pack, Devon must do the unthinkable, defy the pack. He takes Vincent, Emily and her boyfriend Marcus and runs. How far will he go to protect his siblings?

Along the way, Devon meets Lark, a strong willed stubborn bakery owner and her little sister Sarah who are human but aware of what they are. Not afraid of Devon, Lark feels a connection to him, but also stands her ground against him. Tension is building between the packs and Devon and Lark. Can Devon protect his family when the time comes?

Devon Harris is emotionally scarred from childhood abuse at the hands of his step-father Emmett McKinley. He is full of angst and trusts no one. He doesn't do the "relationship" thing, so when he finds himself attracted to Lark, he constantly pushes her away.

Lark Davies has had to take on the responsibility of caring for her teenage sister Sarah. She has a strong will, is compassionate and doesn't let Devon's attitude deter the growing attraction she feels for him. Their love story develops slowly. In the meantime, a war is developing among clans and is headed to their doorstep.

If you want to read a Werewolf story that is full of intrigue and drama, then this one is sure to please. The romance that unfolds between Devon and Lark is sweet and endearing.

I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest review.

Bethany Shaw has given us another thrilling book here. Out of the shadows is the first in the Werewolf wars series, and it is paving the road to one of the most exhilarating shifter books ever. Meet Devon, loveable, intense and hot. Take one gorgeous human, responsible and takes no s***, put them together, add more characters that are as worthy as the above two. A story full of excitement, thrills, love and heart stopping moments and you get Out of the shadows. I want so much to know what comes next that I can hardly wait for book two. I am positive that Bethany Shaw will deliver again. I was gifted this book for an honest review.

Riveting from the first chapter. I did not expect myself to be so entranced with the storyline of the book, but I was. This shifter story was great from the first moment to the last. Devon and Lark's romance was great from the beginning. I liked not having a traditional attraction with both characters and longed to see them get together. Bethany did not disappoint. The amount of turmoil from the storyline kept me turning the page wishing there were more pages to turn when the book ended. No book spoilers from me only truth. Read the story for you will not be disappointed with the level of action, romance and intrigue created by a fantastic mind of Bethany Shaw. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!!

Absolutely adored this book! Literally started reading it and could not put it down until I finished.
Devon must get his family away from their pack before the unspeakable happens to them. His step father is planning on trading his sister to another pack so she can become a breeder. Females are scarce and are a top commodity.
Devon knows he must get her, her fiance Marcus, and his brother Vincent to safety so they take off to his Uncle's pack in the middle of the night.
After things get situated, he soon finds out his life is going to be turned upside down. He gets reacquainted with Lark and realizes no matter how hard he fights chemistry, love wins out.
When danger comes after the girls, Devon must start to assume his Alpha role and rescue not only his family but the girl he loves.

Cannot wait to read the next installment!

I loved the story! Devon escapes his father and flees to his uncle. He is very protective of those he loves so he takes his siblings and a friend with him. Devon has no interest in finding his mate.

Lark is also devoted to her sister who she raised when their parents died. Between work and caring for her sister, she has no time for a romantic involvement.

When Devon and Lark meet, it is a love/hate relationship. Which will win...love or hate?

This book has it all: drama, action, suspense, romance, bickering and, most of all, love. Read and enjoy!

This book was a real treat. First time author Bethany Shaw knocked it out of the park with a riveting storyline that had me completely absorbed. It also made me very hungry for a sequel, which luckily for me just came out! The main protagonist is a girl-next-store-type that is as kind as she is strong, which is always appealing in a character. The male lead is an alpha in every sense of the word and while flawed, is EXTREMELY appealing on his own. The only detraction from making this a five out of five fangs for me, was the incorrect editing that had me re-reading a few lines to make sure I got the gist of the author's point, but I am ordering the next book today so obviously it does not detract too much! A delicious read that I highly recommend.

I absolutely loved this book! There are a few alphas in this book and they are all at a standoff. Territorial and possesive as alpha males always are. It was written perfectly and clearly. I couldn't put it down. I just had to know what happened next because there was not a dull moment at all. The characters all have their own past issues to deal with, but they are explained well and not drawn out so much that you are reading pages and pages of history. There are insecurities in the chartacters as well as hott passion that makes you sweat just reading it. Bethany Shaw has given you just a hint of whats to come. I need to read the next one because I just have to know what happens next. The cliff hanger has me hanging.

This series has the potential to be an outstanding addition to your library. There is suspense, darkness, some lighthearted bantering between bickering lover wannabes and so much tension from trying to figure out where the next plot twist is going to take you. I could not put this down once I started to read it. There is a large cast of characters who will continue on throughout the books and they become more developed and complex the more you read. Devon Harris is a born alpha who has been beaten down by his half crazed stepfather. When the step father makes a decision about his daughter Emily, Devon cannot stand by and allow it to happen. He runs with her, his brother Vincent and Emily's mate Marcus. He goes to his uncle in Texas asking for help...and it is given. There he meets Lark Davies, a feisty, independent human who seems to know all about the shapeshifting wolves. She does not judge them or treat them differently because of who and what they are. The attraction between them is instant. Devon does what he always does...he tries to push her away. He has been betrayed too many times to let anyone close. But that all changes when a series of kidnappings takes place and a rescue for the women is a must. This is a scintillating read that will definitely hold your attention and keep you on your toes trying to figure who the good guys are and who is a bad guy.

Lately I've read many not so good shifter stories. So when I started reading this I was pleasantly surprised. Bethany Shaw is not an author I read before. However, she is an author that will go on my wstch list now! I laughed and cried while reading this book. Devon and Lark really madd great chemistry, wonderful character development. The pace of this book flowed so nicely with the twists and turns that I couldn't put it down. Amazing Alpha hero in Devon, and perfect human Alpha mate in Lark! All together a wonderful read.

This is a great book. The action started right from the first page and didn't stop. I really liked the characters, they were very well developed. Devon is afraid to trust, and rightfully so. Lark is very compassionate and caring. I liked that they didn't get along right from their first meeting, it made the story more believable. When they do come together it is super hot! There were some minor editing issues, but they didn't really detract from the flow of the story. I would definitely recommend this book! Can't wait to read the rest of the series!

I loved their "I love you'... "I hate you" moments and when they finally gave in for one another.... MMmmm Nice!

Toss in a LOT of action, suspense, and some sexy werewolf's and you got yourself a great story! I didn't think I would like this book so much, but I was wrong... It kept me intrigued throughout the whole book, and I fell hard for Devon and the way he protected Lark.
