There was a cold lady who swallowed some snow by Lucille Colander
Love this kids book especially for those who do not get a lot of snow. It starts out with a woman who swallows some snow and then other items.
I only listened to the story, I had no pictures in front of me. Sounds like a great story and questions you can ask the child before things happen on next pages asking what the child knows by looking at the picture.
Love the elements, snow, pipe, coal, hat and a stick and a scarf. Love all the rhyming words as well, makes this a silly story for any child. You do find out at the end why she did what she did....
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

Have been reading cumulative tales to children learning English. I really like these because of the repeated lines. This book is very funny and made kids who have never seen snow in their life laugh and laugh months before snow arrived. Terrific ending! Have given this book as a gift!

Used this book for sequencing and my kids loved it!. Great pictures and all of the pictures were something they could relate too. Not to mention since there are so many other books with the same story line it helps them activate their prior knowledge on other books they have read. You can also think of a lot of cool props to use as well as there already being allot of things out there ready for you. Overall, we loved this book.

We received this book as a gift from my son's teacher. They must have read it at school prior to receiving it as a gift since he knew the whole story the first time we read it together. He laughs so hard every time we read it he can barely breath. The book is a nice twist on "there was an old lady who swallowed a fly" here she doesn't die at the end of the rhyme.
Another reviewer was miffed that the lady "barfs" up everything she ate and makes a snowman... But, I would rather she barfed than died. It is a little hard to explain death to a 4 year old.
There was also the complaint that the end did not rhyme, well, it does. It is broken up between several pages. The last rhyming set reads
"Now, this cold lady had quite enough! So, she thought and thought and came up with a plan. She hiccuped twice and out popped... A snowman."
It might seem a bit more awkward than the other stanzas in the book since it is broken up over several pages, but, plan and snowman do rhyme..
Overall: Good for kids just learning to read as the book has repetitive lines, with a predictable formula from one sentence to the next. The humor could be seen as a little "crass". Most younger children are not "put off" by body functions like adults.
