An excellent read. I enjoy the short story format and Stephen King's writing style. I also enjoy the variety of characters and settings in the various stories of this book...and all of them keep me hooked. I think this book is better than King's later short stories collection called "Nightmares and Dreamscapes".

I've read other Stephen King short stories and novels and liked them. These are some of his earlier stories, and honestly I couldn't finish it. The good thing about Stephen King is he can write well and he knows it. The bad thing is that on occasion he doesn't know when to stop writing. I finally quit about halfway through the book because none of these (with a few exceptions) are really short stories. They are anything but short - maybe novellas. And they didn't need to be. Most of them could have been (in my opinion, of course) edited down by at least half with much improvement. But, there's a lot of positive reviews so I only offer this as my perception.

Lots of interesting stories. Some better than others but typical King in all of them. It was interesting to see how the style progressed over the years as the compilation spanned short stories that were written over a period of years. I'd recommend this book to any King readers.
The Selection series 1-3 (The Selection; The Elite; The One) plus The Guard and The Prince (The Selection) :: Little Men (Puffin Classics) :: Urban Fantasy (Merry Gentry 5) (A Merry Gentry Novel) :: Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm (Puffin Classics) :: The Tommy Knockers Hardcover

This book is worth the price of admission if only for The Mist! Add in Gramma, Survivor Type, etc., and you have a fantastic collection of short stories of the macabre. Even when he ventures out of the supernatural/horror genre, he tells some very good stories as well!

Entertaining. If you like short stories, then this might be for you. I say might because King has a certain style that sometimes requires the reader to really work their imagination. Some may prefer that. I really bought it for the "Mist". Very good. Quite diferent ending than the movie though.

This was not my favorite collection of Stephen King stories, but there were some standouts. Gramma scared me to death, probably because I remember being afraid of older folks when I was a child too. Word Processor of the Gods was a beautiful story, and I really loved it. It also contains my personal favorite, The Reach. The Reach is an incredible story of an old woman's journey; I absolutely love this story. There's a lot to love here, but The Reach is probably the best.

There are 22 stories in this book starting with the Mist. In the past few years I've grown to like short stories. You can read one and let it digest for a while, then move on to the next. Stephen King's stories always an interesting pattern in how the stories fit together. As though he's taking the characters all from the same village and giving them each their own creepy adventure.

Excellent book filled with several short stories by the master horror writer Stephen King. The book was required reading for an online college class called: "Horror Writing Intensive: Analyzing the Work of Genre Master Stephen King." BTW it was an excellent class taught by Philip Athans another fine author and teacher. For the class we were required to read and analyze several books by Stephen King. I find he has a gift of really bringing the reader into the story, which a great writer is supposed to do. The various short stories in this book are all very well written. You will not be sorry if you by this book it is well worth the read. I’ve already recommended this book to my family and friends. I just hope my Sci-Fi book, "Deep Light”, which will be published before December 2017, will be as well received.
