We only know that it happened a hundred years ago. So many lived and so many did not. A Night to Remember gives us the realization that those on board were not "numbers" but people who did exist. They had feelings, concerns and courage.
Now stop and try to put yourself in their shoes.

Amazing facts and interviews from survivors that keeps the reader captivated. Sad to view the passenger list at end of chapter that identifies those who died and those who survived. Even sadder to learn another ship was just ten miles away but disregarded signals. Awesome book.

Sure, it has all the facts everyone already knows, but then so does every other book written since 1912....This is the TRUE book for people really interested in the Titanic and not fans of a fictional couple and missing jewels....I read this book in 1971, and my interest in all things Titanic has never waned....I recommend this book for all True Titanic historians....!!! Wish there were 10 stars....

If you are interested in the Titanic this book is a compelling read. I enjoyed it even though it wad published in 1955. I think it is a little outdated with the information that is out now but still a good read.

I've seen several movies and television shows that cover the Titanic, so I thought I had little to learn from this book. I was surprised that there was information in this book that I had not heard before. I also enjoyed matching the things I read in this book to the movies I've seen. I really enjoyed reading this on my Kindle.

The sinking of the Titanic is such an incredible event, and Walter Lord definitely does a great job at capturing the mood of shock and disbelief that seems to surround this amazing piece of history. After the first few chapters I was desperate to see the movie Titanic again. Really enjoyed this book, I would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of history.

If you're looking for an account of what happened in the hours before the Titanic hit the iceberg until the survivors arrived at the Carpathia (Rescue Ship), this is a perfect book for you. This satisfied most of the questions I had about the event.

A Night to Remember by Walter Lord
Very detailed fact based account of what really happened to the Titanic on it's maiden voyage & subsequent disastrous sinking after hitting an iceberg. Provides a very good view of what life & society was like at that time and also the behavior of the passengers and crew. I would highly recommend this book.

In " A Night to Remember", Author Walter Lord pieces together the events of the final hours of the Titanic ship. Lord details the tragic from the moment the Titanic struck a gargantuan ice glacier to the final hour when sunk. Testimonies given by survivors and historical archives come together in composing this book. The information takes account of what happened on the Titanic focusing on the last 2 hours before its demise. Throughout the book, Lord shares stories on the divisions between the rich and the poor, becoming more vociferous as the Titanic edged toward her final hour. Along with the rift between the rich and poor are stories of survivors searching for disparate ways to stay alive on the ship many deemed the "unsinkable."

It is pretty clear that this nonfiction book was the inspiration for the blockbuster movie. Much of the historically accurate action and dialogue in the movie is directly from this work. Engaging and interesting.

I remember reading this book when I was a teenager. My mother had it (can't find it anymore) - and I recall being struck by the personal nature of this monumental news item, occurring many years before I was even born. Out of 2200+ people, so many were lost - and recorded in this book by name. I set out a while ago to try to find the book. I was pleased to have found it through the store. It arrived in a timely manner and in very good shape. Now I discuss the long-ago event with a grandson and discussed some of the things in the book.

I had mild interest in the Titanic story after hearing the story growing up and then seeing the movie. But after hearing about this book I decided to read it and it was an interesting take and very informative for a novice. Enjoyed it, and it was quick.

You can watch a lot of documentaries about this event, but this book is really a gold standard, and I felt very much more closely connected to the people on board and what was going on. A very rich tapestry. Feels like the canonical reference for this event.

Great writing, captures you in the moment, and just one of those books you just can't put down.
