He stood as an example of what most law enforcement officers are, being engaged in their profession, the community, and family. Here, Charleston Hartfield tells the reader what the job is like, true stories. Rest in peace Officer Hartfield and may your family always remember the good you have done here while on earth.

RIP Charleston Hartfield. A tragic loss of a wonderful life in the Las Vegas Shooting. Charleston is a Person, people should strive to emulate in life. I look forward to reading this book and thank you for your public service. RIP.

Beginning to end. I laughed, I cried and I thought about things more in depth. I understood the situations you were in. 200 pages were definitely not enough for me. I really hope you make a second one. Really good book brother. Super proud of you. A very entertaining as well as very informative and relieving to know there are others out there that get the same feeling and thoughts as myself. Thank you for writing this and showing all of us who are not behind your badge your side of it. Truly inspiring.

Would have given a higher rating but this would have benefited from some additional editing. Typos, misused words and run on or incomplete sentences were a distraction. Sometimes I had to re-read to try to understand the idea he was trying to get across.
Overall, an interesting read.

What a wonderful work of art! You brought your life into mine and made me realize how very difficult the career you chose really is. Thank you for sharing your life experiences and thank you for all you do for everyone. Great read, couldn't put it down until I finished it!!!

I retired with twenty eight years of law enforcement service, (federal, state, and local). This is the book I have wanted to write. Hartfield captures the good, the bad, and the ugly, and entertains as he espouses on all. Anyone interested in a law enforcement career, (or anyone just wanting to understand what officers deal with on a daily basis), needs to read this book. A first class read.

For anyone who's knocking the self-published format, I'm ever thankful for it after reading his book. He had a giving spirit, even to his last breath, and all Vegas/Clark County residents should read this book, especially for those impacted by the events of Oct 1, 2017. It's harrowing and at other times, hopeful - thank you Las Vegas Metro for all that you do, and thank you Charleston.

You will laugh, bawl your eyes out, be filled with disgust all within a pages in Charleston Hartfield's "Memoirs of a Public Servant." I am not one who likes to read the same book more than once, but I would read this a million times. This should absolutely be the number 1 Bestseller in America today.

This is not my normal preferred reading material, but it's a powerful story written by a law enforcement officer who was sadly one of the victims in Las Vegas sat the Mandalay Bay hotel.
Books like this remind us that every police officer is just trying to get home at the end of each day, and that they often don't, so let's give them a break and stop demonizing them.

Charleston Hartfield is one of the 58 people recently killed in the mass shooting by Steven Paddock at a country music festival in Las Vegas. This is the reason his effort at publishing a book has climbed in the store's sales. However, the former soldier, police officer and volunteer is neither a writer nor a reader. I read through much of the relatively short book and can save you the trouble.
The book is basically a poorly organized 'this happened, that happened' account of Hartfield's pretty ordinary life. The way Hartfield is not ordinary is that he was an African-American man who held extreme Right views. That is why the 'also read' books listed with his are from the likes of alt-Right provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos. I do mean extreme. Hartfield passes on conspiracy theories, including that public schools teach children to be terrorists. He was an ill-formed person vulnerable to accepting reactionary propaganda.
Hartfield was also subpar in regard to use of language. His grammar is wanting and he regularly misuses words. Punctuation? Don't ask.
Instead of buying this book, I would urge you to donate to one of the viable efforts to help survivors of the Las Vegas massacre. It is tragic this man was killed by a mass shooter, but that doesn't mean he has written a book worth reading.
