This book kept my attention throughout. The story of Lily's desire to take care of "her girls" & finding someone who shared her dreams was wonderfully written. It was nice to read about good efforts & unconditional love demonstrated. I look forward to reading more of Rachel Branton's books.

A well written novel about forgotten children. Lilly is so committed to caring for her girls. This is a positive look at DCS and programs to help if only someone really cares. I had a hard time putting this one down wondering what would happen next.

Delightful story, very real characters and a plot/ theme that reminds all of us that we are both victims of our pasts, creators of our futures and in many ways either rescuers or people who need rescuing. Life is hard. We need each other to learn, to love, and to enrich each others lives. I also loved that Brandon made her main character Lily the one who gambles everything on what she sees as right, while her paramour is the one who wants to follow the rules. Somehow they find a way to meet in the middle and find an adorable but hard solution. Wonderful love story on top of a suspenseful page-turner.

A very easy, enjoyable read on a tough subject about child abuse and foster care obstacles . The characters are well developed and pull you right into their emotions and problems in trying to make the system work.
