This book dealt with several life-altering issues in a very compelling manner; leading the reader to lay aside preconcieved prejudices as well as allowing us the priviledge of being absorbed in the coming of age of a remarkable boy that morphs into a competent young man right before your eyes.

This is a great book. It is about perseverance, bravery, friendship, and excepting people's differences. I recommend this book to people of all ages. If you haven't read it yet, you definitely should.

I loved the book, in currently in seventh grade and I looked up to the courage of Phillip and Timothy. I recommend this book to other middle schoolers. I feel that this book would be too much for the elementary Kids.

Excellent text that touches on themes of facing adversity, understanding diversity, and coping with barriers, both physical and mental. Collaboration and empathy also stand out as relevant life lessons revealed through the text.

This book was required for 5th grade reading and is written with the male reader in mind but my daughter still really enjoyed it. It is an old book but still delivers a good lesson on hardship, friendship and survival. I would recommend it for children 10-13 year olds.
