I thought this was the least enjoyable book of the trilogy...it's almost like it was written by someone else. Plot was clunky and writing was unnecessarily complicated. Still, an enjoyable trilogy overall -- my 10 year old girl really liked the fire lizards!

Hurry with the 'review'!!
I love the Harper Hall Trilogy and have been waiting for it to be put on kindle.
Dragondrums gets more into the workings of the Harper Hall, the intrigue of Pern, and develops the loved characters of Menolly, Piemur and Sebell.

In TELL A DIFFERENT STORY's audio book edition of Anne McCaffreys' DRAGONDRUMS , purchased through the store.com , Anne McCaffrey drew me into the adventures of a young apprentice in the Harper Hall of Pern . I was allowed to follow along as Piemur progressed from a young , impulsive , over active scamp , to a self-reliant young man . Accompanying him as he moved through character testing challenges , I watched his loyalties and values become more and more clearly defined . He also learn that if his definition of discretion was too needle sharp , it could sometimes sew him into unnecessary difficulties , and did .

I have actually read the entire series many times - the many stories of Pern are among my favorite books. This time around I was reading a Kindle version. I was a little disappointed by all of the typographical errors in the books (all three of them in this series).

One of my favorite series of all time, along with the origin series. This story expresses beautifully the loneliness of the person (especially teen) who is different, and how transformative it is to finally be accepted for what you are.

Third in the Harper Hall trilogy, this book primarily follows the adventures of Piemur as he grows up. LOVE Anne McCaffrey's Pern books, She is able to bring her characters to life and give the reader a good feeling for the action without being over descriptive.

Great story, great characters, and it will leave you wanting more. Anne McCaffrey is a great author and creates such memorable characters you root for them throughout their stories. My favorite author.

The world building in Anne McCaffrey's books is absolutely amazing! She took what was meant to be only a single trilogy and built on that until you have a history going all the way back to the colonization of Pern and takes you to the foreseeable ending of thread. The Harper Hall Trilogy is a great little side trip that gives you more background into some of the key players and events that shape other books in the Pern series.

I love all the Dragonriders books. The Harper Hall Trilogy (of which this is a part) is shorter and is written in simpler language than the other books. I think this was written for teens. But if you are enthralled with Pern, then you'll have to read this story for further insight. It takes place parallel to the events in the main series.

I happily find myself transported to the another world. A fantasy world views through the eyes of innocents, as each character is described with 'old world' charm. They occupy a world that contains a benevolent class structure and a enemy that unites them all.
Easy to read and a welcome escape from the cynical. I love all the Pern Books equally, Anne McCaffrey was a gifted writer and has provided me with so much enjoyment. I first found these books as a teenager and now several decades on, I have recently re-read them. The stories have withstood the test of time. Beautiful writing.

I have only one regret concerning Dragonsong is that I hadn't read it sooner. I gave my son his first Dragon books when he was 14M, he is now 57. I am going to read all 21 books . I have enjoyed each and everyone so far.I find each is unique unto itself. I love dragons.

Ann McCaffrey has always been one of my favorites, especially the pen books. I recently had to downsize my physical library, so this book was one of the first I replaced with digital version. It's well worth bing again!

This book, read by an awkward teenage singer, misunderstood by her family, turned into a lifelong love of an author and a genre. I will never be able to express my joy and gratitude enough for this book, the first I ever read of the Pern series.

I love the Harper Hall books. Dragonsong is very much to introduce Menolly. It is a bit more juvenile than Dragonsinger which is my favorite of the trio but all are worth reading. I love early McCaffrey. I love her characters.

This was the first Dragonrider book I purchased years ago; I bought this copy for my daughter. It's not the first in the series, but a good entry point for a teen reader, as the main character is also a teen. I love the series! Another good reason for a start here is that there are no sexual references. Don't get me wrong, this is not a "sexy" series, but as in life, sex has a role. When the dragons mate, their mentally bonded riders do, too. None of that here, though, since dragons have only a passing role in this book. This is a great read; now if I can only get my daughter to pick it up!

This series parallels the first three books about dragons and Pern. Menolly Brian is insights on people not in the same arena as dragons and their riders. She shows us life in the basic folks like the sea holders and in coming books, the Harpers.

This was my first Anne McCaffrey experience after intending to read one for about thirty something years and it was great. Loved the characters and the innocence of old school science fantasy. Won't be the last of her books that I read.

Not a very complex story line, but very comfortable and easy reading, even with the extended vocabulary Anne McCaffrey has. Great lighthearted descriptions about people and their struggles in life, particularly those of a Harper apprentice who's young voice is awesome and when puberty hits causes him to seriously wonder about his future...
