Callie Brewster always had Finn O’Donnell’s back the entire time they were in Afghanistan. The two of them new doubted the loyalty or question whether the other was right there taking care of business. After they left military life Callie became the sole care giver to her nephew and Finn decided to become a rancher. They lost contact long enough to think the other one had moved on from their relationship but when Callie needs Finn to protect her nephew there was never a question of why just when.
Callie was not fond of ranch life but she is getting used to being part of a team again which she definitely loves. Finn is showing her nephew the ropes of a cowhand and giving her a little nudge or push in the direction of something happening between them. Everything goes in fast gear with these two as the three become four with the prior owner wanting back in and an assortment of animals the two are rescuing and adding to the blended family life that fits them.
Finn and Callie realize their relationship is so much more than friendship. As they deal with more people and animals finding their way into the house they realize that the love they have for each other is strong enough to survive anything even feuding neighbors or war time nightmares.
Snuggle up and enjoy an uplifting story of how two people become a family

I seriously adore Carolyn Brown!! She writes the most creative and fun stories.. about Cowboys no less.
Cowboy Boots for Christmas had me giggling and sighing all the way through!! It's book one for her new series.. Burnt Boot (that's not just the name of the series, it's the name of the town it's set in)
All Finn O'Donnell was to be left alone. A little space from his insane overly large family. Since he got out of the service he has been feeling a bit confined, so when a ripe little ranch literally drops into his arms, Finn can't refuse. It's close enough that he can make it home in a few hours but far enough that he's got the space he needs. All is good! Of course it is.. that is until Callie Brewster shows up at his door, asking for help.
Callie Brewster, fresh out of the service and a sudden mother. When her beloved sister died, Callie was left with a nephew that needed some serious love and stability. Of course life is never that easy, when said nephew is a witness to a serious crime, they are suggesting witness protection. Callie has a better idea. Finn was her partner (he was a sniper and she was his spotter) she knows he can help. So off to Texas they go..
They just need to adjust until after Christmas then everyone can go back to normal. Except life is never ever that simple. Remember that quiet little ranch Finn was looking forward to? There's a reason it sold so cheap.. There's a feud going on and Finn's Ranch is neutral territory (sort of) and everyone wants him to pick a side. Except for Finn, Callie and three sweet little old ladies *snort*. There's nothing sweet about those women..
So now he has unexpected visitors, a feud in Burnt Boot (and the way they are trying to get his attention? Well throw the sexiest women on both sides at him). And let's not forget the assortment of pets that keep showing up.. Like small daschund like dog that comes with his own parrot..
Insanity prevails and believe it or not there's a LOT more going on! Just give it some time and something is going to happen...
Of course as time goes on, the connection Finn and Callie have turns out to be a bit more than just friends and partners. They have to learn to navigate this new relationship alongside a ready made family *grins* that just keeps getting bigger and bigger *grins* and a town whose residents are nuttier than the fruitcakes.
A pure joy! I can not wait to see what's going to happen next in Burnt Boot!

BOOK SYNOPSIS
Callie Brewster didn’t figure she’d ever see Finn O’Donnell again when they parted company in Afghanistan. But when her little brother witnesses a killing, everything changes. The government says they’ll put him in witness protection, but Callie doesn’t trust anyone to protect her brother—except for Finn O’Donnell.
All Finn wants for Christmas is some peace and quiet on his newly purchased ranch. But he owes Callie Brewster his life, and he always repays a debt. Now there’s a woman in the house who joined the army to get away from ranching, a boy who is scared of his shadow, and a feud going on amongst the other ranchers. Yet in the midst of all the chaos, Finn is happier and more at peace than he’s ever been before…
My Thoughts
Wow, how many tissues did this story make me use? A lot that is all I can say for sure as my sinuses are still clogged from all the tears that have shed since starting the book!
I did not have the pleasure of meeting Finn O'Donnell prior to his story but now that have done so am eager to read more about him and his family.
For those of us whose heart is open to the magic of Christmas and the miracles wrought by love this is a perfect story, it does not hurt that it is a Contemporary Cowboy Romance that has a genuinely adorable couple whose friendship started when Finn was an Army Sniper in the Afghanistan War and Callie was his spotter.
Having served together on dangerous missions the pairs ability to read each others emotions became second nature, it transfers over to real life when Callie enlists Finns help to keep her nephew safe rather than allowing the government to place them in Witness Protection. Since both suffer from nightmares it does not take long for Callie and Finn to find that they comfort each other easily without words as their shared experiences in the war have left them with a natural understanding of what the other’s night time terrors can encompass.
The small town in Texas setting is one that never loses its appeal for me and Burnt Boot Texas is about as far from the beaten path as one can get without losing touch with civilization completely as they do have a large general store and a bar in town for the neighboring ranchers to buy general supplies and grab a drink or two when the urge hits to cut loose with friends.
I chortled with glee with each new addition to Finn and Callie’s household, could imagine the wonderfully rich smell of Verdie’s cookies baking and shivered when the snowball fights ensued when the weather changed and the temps dropped.
By the time Christmas Day rolled around the entire group of inhabitants of the Salt Draw ranch had made themselves at home in my heart and I was totally pleased with how things came together for all of them, especially since what started off as a favor became a meaningful turning point in all of their futures for a better life together!
For this hopeless romantic this was a perfect "Christmas miracle" tale and from Joe the talking parrot to Pistol his Chihuahua sidekick and all the other animal characters that were so skillfully woven in as family members the contribution they made lent a deeper layer of charm to the story.

Cowboy Boots for Christmas is the wonderfully heartwarming first novel in Carolyn Brown’s newest series, Burnt Boot, TX. It is another highly entertaining story with plenty of sass, a sighworthy romance and just to keep things interesting, a long running feud that pretty much surpasses the one between the infamous Hatfields and McCoys. Throw in a mess of adorable pets, lovable kids and feisty seniors, and you have an unforgettable tale that will leave you grinning from ear to ear at all of their crazy antics.
Although Finn O’Donnell and Callie Brewster were extremely close during their deployment to Afghanistan, they lost touch after they returned stateside. Two years later, they are reunited at Finn’s isolated ranch outside the small town of Burnt Boot, TX when Callie needs a safe place for her and her nephew Martin to hide for a few weeks. Callie and Finn settle right back into their easy friendship and now they are no longer working together, they are free to explore their smoldering attraction to one another.
Their previous acquaintance is the perfect set up for love to flourish between Callie and Finn. Although they were attracted to each other in Afghanistan, their relationship remained platonic and Finn was momentarily distracted by another woman. Callie is surprised to discover that Finn is still single while Finn is pretty shocked that Callie is now the legal guardian of eight year old Martin. Callie is a little dismayed to discover she is still attracted to Finn but with her aversion to all things cowboy, she is not planning to act on her desire. Meanwhile, Finn is left wondering why he never acted on his long ago attraction to Callie and since he remembers she wants nothing to do with ranch life long term, he does not see any reason to act on his passion either.
The relationship between Callie and Finn is slow growing, and their friendship makes their inevitable transition from friends to lovers believable. Their romance is very sweet with plenty of sexual tension. Their lovemaking is deliciously steamy but the scenes are not very explicit. While their romance is mainly conflict free, Callie has some uncertainties to come to terms with before she can fully commit to a future with Finn.
Cowboy Boots for Christmas is another absolutely charming romance by Carolyn Brown. An eclectic but (mostly) lovable cast of characters brings the story vibrantly to life. This engaging novel has a refreshingly unique plot that is sweet, sexy and just plain fun. With the local feud heating up and the unexpected arrival of Finn’s cousin Sawyer, readers are going to be chomping at the bit for the next installment in the Burnt Boot, TX series.

Callie Brewster will only consider one man to protect her when the Feds threaten her with Witness Protection. The man that had her back and kept her alive in Afghanistan retired Army sniper Finn O’Donnell.
If only Callie can keep her crush silent.
Finn O’Donnell can’t believe that the war raging between the ranchers could be as serious as the Hatfields and McCoys, but he soon learns that he’s quite mistaken. Luckily for Finn Callie has just arrived and she’ll protect him from the prowling women. If she doesn’t wind up the object of their war when the feuding clans actually see where Finn’s eyes are glued!
Hott Review:
What I liked: Cowboy Boots For Christmas was really fun! I REALLY enjoyed Joe the most. All of the characters were fun and well developed. We’ve also got a great set of characters prepped for the series.
I think my favorite part of this book is how close Callie and Finn are. They barely need to even glance at each other to know what the other is thinking and yet they’re both afraid of committing to the other. It was sweet.
What I didn’t like: There is quite a bit of foul language in this book.

I waited for another O'Donnell cowboy story and here HE is. Retired army sniper Finn O'Donnell buys himself a ranch in Burnt Boot, Texas (I love the name of this town) and thinks he going to have a QUIET holiday.
Callie Brewster knows only one person she can turn to and trust to help protect her nephew Martin, ex army friend Finn.
Carolyn's heroine still has her signature sass and strong will, Callie was Finn's spotter in the army, so she is full confidence and is always ready to one up anyone. It's good to have some competition. Nothing like a two family feud where the ladies want Finn as the prize. Callie shows them Finn belongs to her.
I found this book to be a bit different than Carolyn's other cowboy tales. The tenderness Finn shows Callie and Martin is most heartwarming, but he also loves to help stray animals. That's my kind of cowboy!
Finn and Callie in true Christmas form demonstrate to Martin and three homeless children how to love, trust and help each other. Seems they all have a knack for ranchin and want-need cowboy boots.
Through the weeks they collect a menagerie of pets- you'll get a kick out of the talking bird!
Carolyn's heroine has her signature sass but in this book her hero Finn is patient, speaks and acts with tenderness.
Will they get their Cowboy boots?

'Tis the season for...
Feasting
Frolicking
And...Feuding?
All he wants for Christmas is peace and quiet...
After two tours in Afghanistan, retired Army sniper Finn O'Donnell believes his new ranch outside the sleepy little town of Burnt Boot, Texas, is the perfect place for an undisturbed holiday season. But before he can settle in, an old friend shows up looking for protection and a place where nobody knows her name.
But that's going to take a miracle...
Callie Brewster must relocate to protect her young nephew, Martin, and the only person she trusts is her old Army friend, Finn. Burnt Boot seems like the perfect place to be anonymous, but it turns out a small town with big drama is no place to hide...
I have never been disappointed with a book by Carolyn Brown and this one is no exception to the rule. I felt as if Ms. Brown wrote this story just to provide me with an extra special and sexy Christmas gift, I mean seriously who doesn't want a hero like Finn? And I mean I can't decide if I want to be Callie Brewster or be her best friend. She's an amazing woman and the fact that Finn recognizes that makes him all the more worthy in my eyes. I loved that there were feuding families in this story because magical holiday stories need obstacles to overcome. This truly is the ultimate contemporary Christmas read, in fact I believe it deserves to be read all year round. I know that this is one of the books I will reread over and over again because I can't imagine not enjoying it as much the second and third times as I did the first. Thank you Ms. Brown for sharing your amazing talents and leaving me with such a fabulous feeling of warmth and well-being.

Finn O'Donnell left the Army with no plans of ever going back. He moved across state with his dog, Shotgun, and bought a ranch with the prospects of raising cattle. Little did he know his land was coveted by two feuding families that put the Hatfields and McCoys to shame.
Callie Brewster served alongside Finn in Afghanistan but when she arrived home, she'd learned her sister was killed in a car accident & her nephew was subjected to the foster care system. Custody was won. Shortly after, Martin witnesses a murder and becomes the key witness and a major target. With so few options for her nephew's safety, Callie turns to Finn for help.
---
Hot Factor: 3
---
Within two weeks, Finn went from wanting the solitude of the ranch, to it being too quiet and lonely, to opening his home and heart to Callie and Martin. Then they began finding and taking in a plethora of stray animals as the bitter winter temperatures began to set in. Add three more into the mix, rival families fighting to win him over to buy or marry into his land, and the bad guys that want to kill Martin before the trial & you have a plot full of fun, mishaps and trouble.
The book is well-written with deeply defined characters. Not all the characters are likable, but they are not meant to be. The dialogue and interaction is mostly believable. The chemistry between Finn and Callie is solid, mostly due to their history together and the suppressed feelings they had for each other while serving in Afghanistan. Other than the series of pranks and one-upmanship between the feuding families, there really isn't a lot of action - in or out of the bedroom. The plot plodded along at a leisurely pace, with only a little predictability. It lacked a dynamic conflict and resolve, but the small hurdles they faced along the way were met with maturity and determined resolve.
Why I chose this book:
I recognized the author's name although I've never read any of her previous books. The cover caught my eye & I learned that it was the first book to a new series. That was enough.
Overall Rating: 3.6
Watch for THE TROUBLE WITH TEXAS COWBOYS (Burnt Boot, TX, #2) due to release January 6, 2015.

Cowboy boots for Christmas is the story of Callie, an veteran who just gained custody of her nephew and Finn, her sniper partner. Finn has bought a ranch just outside of Boot Lick, Texas and become a working rancher. Callie's nephew Martin witnessed a murder outside of their apartment and they need a place to lie low. They move to Finn's ranch and Callie becomes a combination housekeeper and ranchhand. Within a few weeks, their household includes 2 dogs, 1 parrot, 4 children, and the former owner of the ranch. Finn and Callie start off as best friends but become lovers as they work towards their happily ever after.
I enjoy reading Carolyn Brown's cowboy romance novels. Her settings are authentic, characters funny and well written, and main characters realistic. I haven't been dissappointed yet and will continue to read her novels. I especially love her grannie figure, this book features Verdie, the sassy former owner of the ranch. I would reccomend this book to anyone who enjoys cowboy romances!

Cowboy Boots For Christmas (Cowboy Not Included) was an extremely fun and enjoyable western contemporary romance.
First book in the Burnt Boot, Texas series by Carolyn Brown, just from this book I can see that this is going to be an amazing series if this one was anything to go by.
This was my first book ever of Carolyn's, I've heard such good things about her writing. and having written and released over 40+ books I can see why she is still so popular, contemporary romance's when they're series set in small towns have become my new book obsession, I just can't seem to get enough of them!
Retired army sniper Finn has recently taken over a ranch in Burnt Boot, Texas when his partner and spotter from his army days Callie comes to him asking for help for her and her nephew Martin, once they move in it's only a matter of time before Salt Draw ranch is not only home to those three but an assortment of stray pets, kids and it's former owner Verdie who decides her retirement home is not for her, they also find themselves stuck in the middle of the town's two feuding families the Brennans and the Gallaghers, life here is never dull.
Filled with warmth, love and the joys of Christmas this is one book to get you into the holiday spirit, I will definitely be hunting down more of Carolyn's books, she's found herself a new fan.
Highly recommended, especially for those about to start picking up and reading their Christmas reads.

"Is he asleep?" Finn whispered.
"Out like a light. He thinks he's too big to crawl into bed with me so when he as the nightmares, we sleep on the sofa the rest of the night.
"
"So you are the nightmare whisperer," he chuckled.
"What?"
"Like the horse whisperer. Only you banish nightmares with your presence. Damn, Callie! I wish I'd have known that two years ago. I would have looked you up and slept on the sofa with you," he said.
COWBOY BOOTS FOR CHRISTMAS (Cowboy Not Included) by Carolyn Brown was an enjoyable holiday contemporary romance set in small town Burnt Boot, Texas. The town came complete with its own crazed Brennans - Gallaghers feud. :-). It was the first book I've ever read by Carolyn and it won't be the last.
My full review has been posted to Reading Between The Wines Book Club.

Twelve days of Christmas, a family feud what else can a person ask for during Christmas…Finn just purchased a ranch and was thinking he was going to spend it alone with just his dog for company, when his old partner Callie Brewster showed up with her nephew… Now the holiday season doesn’t seem so bad. Until the family feud, stray animals and children started to appear on his doorstep.
I really enjoyed Cowboy Boots for Christmas by Carolyn Brown. It was humorous and maintained my attention throughout the story. There’s one character that will make you laugh once he makes his appearance. I can’t wait for the second book of this series. After reading this book you definitely will want to add the second book to your wish list.

Callie and Finn were in the military together for six years, she was his spotter. They each had feelings for the other but knew they couldn't act on them. It's been two years since they've seen each other, but when her nephew witnesses a murder they need a safe place to stay and they end up on Finn's ranch. The sparks fly almost immediately between them. Finn is so sweet and charming, they have a cute romance.
It's a really sweet story about reconnecting and finding love and a place to call home. The characters are amazing and very loveable and the plot of the story is well written. I enjoyed the story and would recommend to any romance lover.
I was given a copy by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Finn is still trying to reassemble is life after his tour of duty in the military. He has just settled into his new ranch when a surprise pulls up to his door. His former sniper partner, Callie, arrives with her nephew Martin in need of a place to stay for awhile. Callie and Martin are in the witness protection program, and what better place to hide out than a ranch in Texas in a small town? Callie and Finn were solid partners, but neither admitted their attraction to one another. Will love and holiday cheer find its way to Burnt Boot?
What I Liked:
*Without a doubt, Carolyn Brown has become one of my go to authors when I need a fun, feisty romance. Her books have terrific characters, and they never fail to make me smile. I loved that this was a true holiday themed book that incorporates everything you love about the holidays. If you want a lovely holiday book this is one to add to your list.
*The romance is a nice, steady slow burn. Callie and Finn were partners in the military, and they both were attracted to each other, but never acted on their feelings. Now two years after they parted, they are back together, and those sparks of attraction are stronger than ever. I liked that even though there was chemistry, the romance took its sweet time building. It bloomed slowly and sweetly. I liked the way the two fit together and that they healed one another as both Callie and Finn were carrying around baggage from their tours of duty. This romance was just right.
*A Carolyn Brown story isn't complete without animals, adorable children and a feisty old gal to whip everyone in shape. It seems that Finn's ranch becomes the perfect place for strays and before long Finn is taking in abandoned animals: a foul mouthed parrot, a Chihuahua, and an injured kitten. I loved the animals. Then the family grows with the return of Verdie, who becomes the ranch's surrogate grandma. There is still one more addition to this hodge podge group, but I won't spoil it for you, read the book. It is truly heartwarming.
* This is a feel good read perfect for when you need a pick me up or for the holidays. This isn't one of those books that is billed as a holiday book but doesn't fit the bill. Carolyn Brown incorporates snow, holiday parties, Christmas trees, home cooking and generous hearts who show the true spirit of Christmas. Everything you want in a good holiday themed book. Without a doubt the best holiday book I have read this season.
And The Not So Much:
*There was some type of relationship in Finn's past while he was on active duty that prevented he and Callie from getting together. I kept expecting a full reveal of what went down but there are only brief mentions. Something about a girl that Finn dated who turned out to be a spy. I wanted more information on this part of the story.
*The whole witness protection program thing never felt genuine. It isn't a big issue but it felt a bit contrived.
*Burnt Boot is a small town with generations of family. Two of the settling families, the Gallaghers and Brennans, are in a long standing Hatfield and McCoy type feud. While some of the antics were funny, many of them were downright mean, and it took away a bit from the feel good theme of the book. I wasn't a fan of the women slapping and hitting and bad mouthing one another any time any place. I just didn't like the nastiness in my warm and fuzzy holiday read.
Cowboy Boots for Christmas is a charming, sweet holiday read that will melt your heart. It has a slow, satisfying romance built on a long term friendship. Not to mention a well rounded an entertaining cast of characters from cute animals to adorable kids. If you want a warm, fuzzy book perfect for the upcoming holiday season, do yourself a favor and grab a copy of Cowboy Boots for Christmas.
