This story has cops, robbers, murderers, politicians, lovers, haters, guilty, innocent. But best of all snow, lakes frozen solid for ice fishing, small towns and strong people. God I miss Minnesnowta!

I love this whole series. Krueger is a master of prose, and his stories are a wonderful blend of mystery, Native American mystic, and the vagaries of life. Start at the beginning...because you won't want to miss a minute of Cork O'Connor's journey through life.

I recently discovered William Krueger, and I'm working my way through his book, sometimes reading parts aloud to my husband. The plots are excellent, characterization is superb, and I especially love his descriptions of scenery. And the Native American spirituality. I am hooked!

This was recommended by a friend of mine who likes Vince Flynn books. I expected something similar from this book but found it to be a fresh/different plot and character development. It started a bit slow for me but built and developed nicely into a page turner. It's pretty quick read but lots of interesting characters throughout. I like it.

Great plot, and very good characters male for an ensile redada le book. This novel has it all. Krueger tajes you into a land that offers much, but is not forgiving. Beauty and dangers abound, and a likeable Cork is the perfect familia man, ex-cop, smart and caring Man (with capital letters) needed to resolve the situations.
Don't miss it.

I started reading the Cork O'Connor mysteries and I really like them. But I find it very annoying that the publisher turns off the text to speech feature that I use to "read" most of the books on my Kindle. I may not get anymore of these books unless they turn on the text to speech feature.

The Cork O'Connor series has won many mystery awards, but the main draw is that it depicts life in northern Minnesota in an intimate and realistic sense.
I put this right up there with Michael McGarrity and Craig Johnson (Longmire). Well worth the investment in time and money.

Couldn't put the book down. Gallops. Yet -- the characters are well developed. Cork -- despite his crustiness -- is a wounded healer. Many graced moments in this book without being schmaltzy. I'm on the the next book in this series.

This Author and his Cork O'Connor series was recommended to me. I have now read three and am going to the fourth series. they are very good stories, that demand your attention, or you may have to return to find out "...who's chasing who!"
I'd recommend this series to all who like modern western mystery stories.

First time reader of William Kent Krueger. I really liked it. The hero (Cork O'Connor) was genuine and the situations he got himself into were exciting (cold) and believeable - was glad he made it thru them. I enjoyed the descriptions of Minnesota and wouldn't mind visiting there one day. Will definitely continue with this series and would recommend it to a friend.

A friend recommended Wm Kent Krueger's novels to me. Someone called him a writer's writer, which probably refers to the beauty of his language. I'm now hooked on Krueger's language and his characters and am reading the complete Cork O'Connor series. Go to it!

A fresh setting and interesting cultural clashes between Native Americans and whites in North Country. The lead character is complex enough that there are twists and turns that are unpredictable even though the overall plot may be somewhat. My husband and I both thoroughly enjoyed this book and are going to purchase the rest of the series.
