Every Sunday I looked forward to going to church with my mother. I'd wear nifty clothes and matched them up with my favorite accessories: shoes and handbags. I'd look and feel good, ready to devote an hour and a half to God. Then -- bam! -- something happened, something very small and meaningless, almost imperceptive, that put me in a foul mood. I became cranky to the point that I was inexplicably angry, all kinds of dark thoughts entering my head. Which begged the question: why. Why was I going through this? Why the negative thoughts, not just on Sundays but on my everyday living, to the point that it brought me to the brink of... something? Lately, I was going through a very rough patch, and was heading to a direction that would have damaged me for not putting my trust fully in God. Then my pastor suggested I read The Bondage Breaker by Neil T. Anderson...

This is the best self-help book I have ever read! Since it deals with your spiritual difficulties and not your psychological ones, you get to the root of your real problem, and you find solutions and freedom that years of therapy hadn't fixed. Anderson will take you through steps and give you examples of people who had experienced similar problems. I found myself nodding in agreement with all of his statements and case studies. Christians have a constant struggle against Satan, and it is within your power to make it stop. And you DO have that power. All self-conflict in me has (almost) healed. I still experience confusion and conflicting emotions from time to time, but to a lesser degree, and I no longer believe the lies I told myself, and I rely on my faith to make the negative thoughts and "voices" in my head disappear. These things are very real, and almost everyone will admit to having experienced "inner demons" of a sort, whether with an addiction or lack of self-esteem or lies you are forced to believe in. The Bondage Breaker is for Christians, as in people who have accepted Christ as their personal savior (like me), since it deals with the struggles and inner-conflicts you experience after you take such an important step. I highly recommend this book to those who have taken that step and even to those who haven't. You will relate to Anderson's wonderful book in more ways than one.

I have given away more "Bondage Breaker" books than any other book I have read. Giving the book away says "I like it a lot" because it has helped me and others so many others. I don't know a person it wouldn't help.

Neil Anderson does an excellent job of not only showing the things that can bind us, but also shows a clear path on how to be delivered from bondage. You will never want to go back to being a slave to sin after breathing freedom's air.

Extremely fast shippingI just got the study guide yesterday. I am really looking forward to working through the study guide. The book was great! I am sure this study guide is going to be great, too! I have decided to work the study guide on separate paper. When I finish the study guide, I plan to spread the word about this book and workbook.

This book is excellent! I felt God setting me just a little more "free" by only saying the prayers "out loud" which are located towards the end of the book where the author takes you through a 7 step series to get free. It's a book that you can refer back to on a regular basis. I haven't started the study guide but I'm sure that is going to be work that is priceless because it changes your life if your serious about God. The best part of the book is towards the end when it deals with prayers and scriptures on how to walk in victory / freedom in Christ. I'm so glad that God is using the books to help set me free with even minimal cooperation with the prayers. It's a great spiritual tool. Makes you want to really do the work when you get just a taste of freedom from bondages that sin causes.

Incredible!! Very practical and clear. Neil writes an amazing work that doesn't deny the spiritual conflict that so many westerners do. It is very biblical and all about truth. Grateful for this read.

If you want to be free from the"burden of sin" and power of sin over you; then read this book and all the surrounding Scriptures (along with Elmer Towns book on Fasting: breaking the yokes of sin) and read all the Scriptures around them and do about 10 -3 days fasts and you will find surprising Freedom in Christ

This book by Neil Anderson can help everyone live more successful lives even though it is written specifically for those who are Christian. For the Christian, it shatters myths and teaches Biblical principles for victorious living.

I was so excited that I could purchase this book through kindle rather than getting a paper copy!! I am taking this course that requires 7 text books. Having it on Kindle allows me to access it through my kindle fire, kindle pc app or kindle android app on my phone. Having this option allows me flexibility when reading. I was able to purchase 4 out of the 7 texts needed for my Graduate level course!! I saved tons of money in shipping and the cost of the book was cheaper. Definitely will use this kindle option in the future when purchasing text books for my courses. Thanks the store!!

I have gleaned wisdom and tools from this book I know will benefit me for years, I highly recommend it.
While maintaining a healthy balance between spiritual and literal realms, this book uses Scripture and individual stories to show us our true identity in Christ, what it means for us, and how to properly understand and claim it.
The book also reminds us that we cannot simply ignore the spiritual side of things, yet we can't blame the devil for everything.
Very enlightening, empowering and most importantly riddled with relevant and powerful Scripture.

The Bondage Breaker book and associated study guide brings out into the light those spiritual bondages that keep Christians from growing to maturity in Christ. For anyone who thirsts to draw closer to Jesus Christ, this study leads to a freedom from the past that allows the study of the Bible and our walk with the Lord to take on a whole new path of purpose and joy in Him.

This is an excellent audio book. It has been produced well. The author teaches in a way that makes you feel as though he is having a conversation with you personally. The material is a great resource for Christians struggling with issues that keep them from experiencing all that God has for them.

Had been reading Dr Anderson's more recent version of this book in preparation for a course our church was planning to run "Freedom in Christ". Read somewhere that in this earlier version the author recounts how he was bitten by a demon while preparing to give a talk. Decided to purchase this book to check out how it differed from the latest version and sure enough, the account appears in this one but not in the latest version. I have several issues with his doctrine, but more especially the fact that for relatively new Christians reading this is more likely to bring fear than freedom. I know this whole topic can be quite controversial, so I am only stating my own opinion, however it seems that following a set of prescribed steps to freedom makes it appear that we have to jump through various hoops in order to gain the freedom that Christ has already given us. Additionally, issues of generational curses seem to bring more despair than hope.

This is a great book if you are ready to make some changes in your life. It gives you a good look into why you may be accepting some of the misinformed myths as truth. It gives great scriptural references as to how to change your life and how to go forward. It is a wonderful book to do in a group setting.

I could not stand this book. While a couple chapters were interesting and left me feeling inspired and uplifted, the majority of the time this book leaves you with a sense of dread. It seems this author sees demons everywhere and believes this world to be dangerous and people to be inherently untrustworthy. It left our bible study group feeling terrible and gave us an, over all, negative feeling when we got together to discuss it.

I do not recommend reading this work without a careful discretion of Biblical truths. Just because the author is using scriptures and demonstrating knowledge of contexts do not mean that he is not susceptible to false foundations of what is Biblically true. Reading self-help book(s) without questioning the contents can be detrimental because your knowledge of what is considered to be "true" will be hard to change. This will be much harder to change than a false knowledge since it has a mixture of Biblical truths and misconceptions.

Main concerns as a Christian counseling student are:
-Claims to be a Christian counseling yet lacks the practice of an actual counseling. It actually goes against many rules of APA code of ethics, such as imposing your religious values on your clients. It would be considered problematic even if your client is Christian because he or she might have different aspects on spiritual freedom, bondage, etc.
-Emphasizes spiritual aspects are overlooked in diagnosing and counseling (Good!). Therefore it focuses on spiritual aspects. However, it is to the point that psychological, biological, and environmental aspects are overlooked and downplayed (Bad!).
-Puts responsibilities of personal sins on demonic spirits rather than the client himself. A lack of understanding of personal sins prevents maturity in Christ.
-Fails to recognize integration of possible truths in field of psychology/counseling and theology.
-Believes about demonic possession in Christians, which I do not believe is the case when our house is filled with the Holy Spirit (Matthew 12:43-44)

Good aspects
-Lots of helpful Bible verses
-Some aspects of spiritual warfare
-Recognition of fallen nature of human, sanctification, and justification.

I was hoping this would be the actual Bondage Breaker book on audio. I am taking a class through church and was hoping this was the book on audio so I could listen when I was in the car or listen and read along, that way I could keep up with the class chapter by chapter. But it is Neil Anderson's lectures on The Bondage Breaker. It was good reinforcement to the book, but it was not what I was hoping for.

I think maybe my time would have been better spent reading the Hold Bible. not sure if there was any need for Neil's book. If reading Neil's books takes away time reading the Bible I would think it is better not to pay the money for Neil's book.

Couldn't get comfortable with the weird vibe this book gives. Binding Satan, demon possessed furniture, formulaic prayers and creeds to find Jesus. It's a blend of Charismatic religious beliefs and borderline occult thinking. Blends the Bible and his own personal thoughts, which often differ.

I've never read abook which is eye opening like this. Firstly , I am able to shift my tought from tormenting accusations of satan. Secondly, I am now sure of who I am in Christ and Him in me and His love for us. I came out at the right time and I am now free from the bondage of selfpity, self accusations, you can name them

Although the steps can be useful, the entirety of the book is teaching those entering the Christian helping profession to motivate change from a fear based foundation: satan's influence. There is no doubt Satan can grab hold of vulnerable minds, but sustainable change is proven over and over to occur when motivated by strengths; those easily discovered in an intimate sacred relationship with Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Without a firm understanding of the scriptures and the ability to integrate the few real issues the author presents, which we all face in a fallen world, this book breeds ignorance and encourages those who are young in their faith journey to lock into the rigid beliefs and potentially... And even likely harm those who suffer from mental illness. I'm ashamed of the University that has it included as a required reading in their counseling program, unless used as a tool to teach future Christian counselors how NOT to integrate Christianity into their counseling practice.

Anderson’s teachings are a deceptive blending of truth and error, which makes it hard for the trusting believer to discern his errors.
Controversial components in Anderson’s message include not only his teaching that Christians can have demons but also his belief that Christians should speak to the devil, that they must specifically identify and renounce past sins in order to be free of them, that they do not possess a sin nature, that correct self-perception is the key to sanctified living, and that satanic ritual abuse and multiple personality disorder are common problems caused by a vast satanic conspiracy. Also subject to criticism are his methods for finding scriptural, historical, and contemporary support for his claims. . . . Many Christian leaders have endorsed his message without fully understanding its controversial dimensions. . . . Although Anderson persuasively projects the image of a responsible, balanced teacher, he often does not deliver on the substance of the same.
Anderson confuses justification with sanctification, the power of sin with demonic control, punishment for sin with the sin itself and ends up with an unhealthy view of the believer’s means to sanctification that radically diminishes the Cross of Christ.
As David Powlison writes “Even with the commendable trimming away of wild extremes, the underlying paradigm that defines the demon deliverance movement (of which Neil Anderson’s ‘Truth Encounter’ is a part) remains unsupportable on biblical, theological, and practical grounds.”
Spiritual warfare is not formulaic prayers of renunciation and annunciation but the Christian’s daily battle to die to self and live for Christ.

It starts off as a softened up version of his original book but after a few chapters, which are very good, he dives into the heresy he is famous for, an invention that has brought him fame and fortune. Personally I would rather remain unknown than known for misleading Christian brothers and sisters.

Well, my father recently passed away, my job has been really stressful and I have had health problems and I was looking for a book that could help with anxiety due to these events.

I found this book to be a little nutty. I didn't even finish it. I mean in the first 20 pages the author mentions every other book he wrote, it seemed like a cheap marketing ploy to me.

He also says he cured a women of severe mental problems, doesn't give much detail on her after care and again this seemed strange to me. Its like he wants you to believe he has some special powers or something. He also wants you to believe that if you are having "mental problems" that it could be the Devil... what? It was almost like he thinks of himself as Jesus just strolling around curing people.

This book was more depressing than anything else. The author wants you to be on constant lookout for demons or Satan trying to deceive you. If you are not really into Christianity do not read this book. I have no problem with people that like it but what he writes is a hard pill to swallow. I mean I don't want some guy telling me what HE thinks the Bible is telling us. I am just going to read the Bible and leave out the middle man. I get the feeling the author is primarily concerned with making money than helping people. I think he is taking advantage of people that want to believe what he writes.

Highly recommend that every Christian read this book! I come from a line of women who were mystics, but turned to Christianity later on. I was also heavily involved in mysticism, thinking it was harmless, but the effects of that followed me...literally. I was tormented for years after I renounced the new age practices I was involved in, seeing and being attacks by demons frequently. Why was this allowed to happen? This book gives incredible detail that, sadly, many Christians (pastors included) have little understanding about.

I was given this book by my aunt, who did as the book instructed to break the generational curse for her kids. Seeing her life and the life of my cousins, that was enough proof for me that it was worth a try.

I had this book for two weeks before I could finally start reading it, but not for lack of trying. I was absolutely mentally tormented. I had some very creepy and scary things happen during the process, but I finally got through it and I can’t fully put into words how dramatically my life and the life of my family has changed. Our family went from broken, to thriving. This book has also showed me just how incredibly powerful the name of Jesus really is, and how powerful prayer is.

I would also like to mention to anyone who had been involved in the occult and the very spiritually sensitive, PLEASE do the verbal renouncing portion with another person at least in the home with you. Still to this day, I can hardly fathom the fact that new age practices are being presented as harmless and helpful, when the reality is that they’re more dangerous and destructive than most of us could have ever comprehended. However, God is so much bigger

The Bondage Breaker®: Overcoming *Negative Thoughts *Irrational Feelings *Habitual Sins. Seminary preparation could not and did not prepare author Neil Anderson to be able to assist the hurting with various afflictions from demonic and occultic realms he was faced with for the past 30 years. Now, classified as an expert, as President of Freedom in Christ Ministries, he is a highly sought after speaker.
Two words can describe why a lot of the bondages exist in peoples lives and a theme that runs throughout this book- satan's deceptions. Mr. Anderson believes taking every thought captive is important and states the following: " The father of lies can block your effectiveness as a Christian if he can deceive you into believing that you are nothing but a product of your past- subject to sin, prone to failure, and controlled by your habits.". Strategies of not allowing the enemy to sway or lie to you will be given. If adhered to, you will find new freedom in life. Mr. Anderson states candidly," I would estimate that only about 15 percent of the evangelical Christian community is living a free and productive life in Christ. Being alive and free in Christ is the birthright of every child of God."
This book is comprised of 3 parts: part one explains your position in Christ, part two warns of your vulnerabilities, and part three presents the steps to freedom in Christ. Throughout the book are real life accounts Mr. Anderson shares that verify the demonic world is real but the delivering grace of Christ supersedes any stronghold or bondage anyone may be facing. It is not just an informative book but a book that will give you hope if you have dealt with areas in your life that have made you feel like a hopeless victim with no resolve. He believes repentance and faith in God are cornerstones to resolving personal and spiritual conflicts, and after which, physical symptoms disappear.
If you have friends or acquaintances that are involved in new age practices this book will be helpful in presenting the dangers of such and why it is against Scripture to be involved with this. A common malady within Christian circles is never appropriating the unconditional love and acceptance to be ourselves. Author Neil Anderson hammers this truth by stating the following: " Those who feel driven to earn God's love and acceptance will struggle with perfectionism and will find it difficult to admit failure. They[people around us]need to see how we handle failure as well as how we handle success. When we model this kind of honesty in the Christian community we greatly reduce the possibility of the deceived gaining a foothold."
Other areas discussed are:
- Common misconceptions about bondage
- Differences between the devil's accusations and the Holy Spirit's conviction
- Seven issues that every Christian needs to resolve
- Four qualifications for living in the authority and power of Christ
- True and false prophets and how to test for authenticity.
You will be taken through "Steps to Freedom in Christ" which will include prayers and declarations. Instructions will also be given in helping others find freedom and a personal inventory questionnaire used in counseling will be provided.

The Bondage Breaker by Neil T. Anderson is a tough book for Christians. Many don't want to acknowledge the active spirit world or Satan or demons as real forces within it, because it seems illogical. Christianity has enough of a fight in today's culture without adding possession and spirit caused illnesses. I've been lukewarm about the issue in the past, but when I got the book, I decided to give it a shot. Anderson's stories of people he's worked with whose lives have been changed by defeating demons are amazing. He lays Scriptural foundation as to why we can believe that spirits are active today and why it's dangerous to ignore them. The book is rock solid in its premise, and the anecdotes are powerful and moving. The last seventy pages or so of the book are steps to take on your own to banish the demons that may be affecting your health, physical and mental. I split the reading up over several nights, and what I saw and felt was unbelievable. After the first night's reading, my husband and I suddenly found ourselves arguing. After a week of feeling very blessed with my life in all circumstances, all I could see was the negative. It took a couple more days of reading before I made the connection: I was under spiritual attack. There are difficult steps to take: make a list of everyone you need to forgive and then forgive them one by one out loud for their crimes against you; listing every place where you have allowed Satan access to your life; asking forgiveness for a multitude of sins. It's a tough book to read, but when I finished, I felt fifty pounds lighter. No more sob sessions or inexplicable fights with my husband. When I start having thoughts attacking my peace of mind, I recognize them for what they are. This book is an invaluable tool for Christians.

As a slave of negativity and inferiority I never quite understood why or how I managed to dwell endlessly on how horrible I was, to the point where suicide or permanent reclusion seemed to be the alternative.

Raised in a strict Christian community I began to break down compulsively in my adulthood, reflecting on my complexions, enduring sleepless nights of worry, fantastical delusionment and preoccupation, not knowing exactly how or why, but then knowing something was really wrong.

It was at the point of my 5th year in college [my academics began to tumble as I lost my ability to concentrate properly] that I realized I had to take decisive action on my unfathomable bondage as the results in my life no longer matched the qualitative results that Christ had promised in the Word.

I dropped out of college later, dying in shame, self-pity and horrendous self-esteem issues, wondering how I could be considered a Christian with my heart going into a tail spin.

After opening up to my pastor, he recommended the book by Neil Anderson, and after reading it through I began to see clearly the core issue of my problems.

It took 3 more years of battling discouragement, disillusionment, negativity and depression until I was finally aware of Satan's schemes and was mature enough in faith to confront and overcome the tactics. My blindness was open, the light had intruded into my soul and a peace finally reigned after a horrendous decade of torment.

If this doesn't set you free from inexplainable repercussions, abnormal disruptions of your psychology or just anything you can't put your finger on, nothing else will open your eyes.

Thank you Lord, now I am free.

In my entire life, I have never experienced the kinds of trouble that I have been experiencing for several years. So, I mentioned to a friend that I was in the process of seeking out a book that might better explain demonic or satanic interference in my life and he offered to loan me "The Bondage Breaker" which he already owned.

Inside the book, the author explains that "The Bondage Breaker" is actually Jesus Christ, our God.

So, not knowing anything about either the title nor the author, I accepted it and read it through. I'm in the process of reading it through a second time, and I've already seen that I need to read it through a 3rd time to gather cross referencing material. The book has literally helped me understand so much of what I WISHED I had known years and years ago.

Contrary to what some critics might claim, the reader can easily see that everything stated in the book is supported by Scripture. The author lists the related Scriptures multiple times on every single page. The value is that he helps point the reader to where that scripture applies in one's life. He offers sample prayers for those who do not know how to pray. He provides case studies where people who he has helped wrote to thank him and explains their story and how evil was tormenting them. He explains how many Christians profess Christ as God, yet somehow can't grasp that evil is just as real. He explains that evil (deceiving spirits, demons) are all around us just the same as germs, and just as we deal with germs in daily life, we simply must live a life that minimizes our exposure to demonic activity and especially that we must avoid any activity that invites the evil into our lives. He provides a checklist to help the reader go back into one's life and recall all those activities that invite demonic activity in our life today. i.e. idol worship, satanism, occult practices, and even activities that a person might not realize as being evil. He provides so much Biblical insight that I can't list it all here. He even lists the characteristics of demons i.e. able to think, move, use strategy, speak, hear, various levels of ability and vileness.... ALL TAKEN DIRECTLY FROM THE HOLY BIBLE.

Has this book helped me? ABSOLUTELY.
Would I recommend this book to others who disbelieve in evil or think evil isn't a daily menace to our lives? ABSOLUTELY.

I will be giving my copy back to the friend who loaned it to me, but I am online to buy a copy for my own reference. Its literally a book that can be read over and over to understand why one's life is dangerously open to evil and how to correct the problem. As he explains, accepting Christ as God gives you eternal life but God didn't instruct us to "put on the armor of God" each day without a reason. Without an effort by the believing Christian, evil can "wound" you as you walk through your daily living. We must be proactive in our own walk through life and this book explains how to do it through not only prayer, but through literal steps in living.

Finally, I would like to point out that the author was not always a pastor. He began his working life as an aerospace engineer who later attended seminary and engaged in both pastoring and Christian counseling. His book draws upon his experience of people suffering torment from evil and how he helped them help themselves. He also has an active web site and has written many other books to help the Christian in their walk through this world.

This book is not too doctrinally sound and could cause someone to stumble in their walk. I've read a few books like this before and the main concern is that it takes the focus of sin off the person and places it on a demon. The personal accountability is easy to let go right out the window. There are several points I want to make about this book. Anderson is not all bad though.

He talks about not flagellating one's self in sin but see yourself as a new creation in God. He does understand salvation and has a good write up on the Fall of Genesis 3. However, Anderson falters a lot. He trades exegesis for eisegesis clearly many, many times. For one example, his bad interpretation of Romans 7 makes Paul a demon possessed man. He also does not treat his eisegesis to explain why we should seek freedom from demons if Romans 7 says that God allows Paul to maintain his thorn of flesh (this is the same issue a lot of charismatics have with wanting health/wealth/prosperity preaching but not the fact that the apostles or Jesus had none of what they're selling).

The biggest problem I see with Anderson is his minority view that a believer can be possessed. His teachings pretty much treat believers as non-believers. He is inconsistent when he says that demon possessed believers pull back even from his touch as the Holy Spirit resides in him. But what about the Holy Spirit that resides in that believer? No writing is done on this. While he doesn't come out and say yes or no it is hard to see Anderson believing in the perseverance of the saints.

The focus for Anderson seems to be more on Satan than on God. Anderson has an almost Gnostic view that the physical being is under Satan's influence but it's the mind/soul/spirit that is under God's. His eisegesis on this is terrible. He says not to talk to demons but to ignore them, but he doesn't do this himself. He devalues the focus on being a new creation in Christ and instead focuses more on Satan. Less on the Word to sanctify but more on Satan to gain freedom.

And that's the biggest rub in this book. The word or teaching of sanctification is not mentioned once throughout it. The focus is more on not having demons attack/influence the believer as much. The Bible and prayer are more incantations to recite than anything. He has no treatment on personal sin but all responsibility seems to be greatly geared towards Satan.

Again, a book that is not doctrinally sound and would cause someone to stumble in their faith. Final Grade - F

In the last few weeks, I've read "Victory Over Darkness" and "The Bondage Breaker" by Neil T. Anderson. Both books are excellent, especially "The Bondage Breaker." At the back of the book are seven steps to experiencing freedom in Christ.

I thought I was living a free life. But I also knew some blockage remained from negative experiences because I had stifled all corresponding emotions. Oh my goodness, what a wonderful release to walk through every bit of the past, renounce any hold the enemy may have kept in those areas, and give them to God to totally experience His freedom. I would highly recommend purchasing "The Bondage Breaker."

I actually came across this book in the early 1990's but never forgot it because was so severely depressed at the time. It really helped me break through irrational thought patterns. Powerful book with amazing insight that backed by God's word. Really helps us to open our eyes in knowing that there really is unseen negative forces seeking to rob us from life's joy & walks us through to find victory over those forces. Im 42 now & still highly recommend it to those hurting or struggling.

I absolutely loved this book. I've known and read about spiritual warfare for over 20 years, and thought I had a pretty good understanding of it. I also carried a huge amount of guilt in my day to day walk. Nothing big, but just a constant nagging that I wasn't good enough. This book has been the single most stand-out book I've read in my Christian walk. It has helped me have a true sense of the spiritual battle going on around us, and within my mind. This book has really freed up my thinking, and allowed me to rest solid in who I am as a Christian, as well as giving me a new perspective of why I want to be obedient to Christ. I am probably more on the conservative side. This book has used solid scripture throughout, and while I may never be what some consider charismatic (God works in each of us in different ways!), I really found this book non-intimidating and grounded in Truth.

This book is like going to a revival. I've been delivered from smoking

after 10 years of this horrible addition. It's just gone no desire. Oh, yes,

I've been tested, the desire to smoke is not apart of my life anymore.

This book helps you to understand clearly the steps you need to take to

restore your life-in Jesus Christ, not the way the world loves. In the

way the heavenly Father loves you, through His Son. The true deliverer

from demonic strongholds that no one else can help you with.

This is not a book you can skim through, but if you only have a limited time, or you need to break some major bondage fast, read chapter 13.

If you want to help others break free of the bondage of sin, I recommend putting together a small group and using the study guide that goes with this book.

The Bondage Breaker is a book I'll read many times and get something new out of it every time. I give it my highest recommendation.

Your denomination may or may not teach, and/or you may or may not believe, that demons have any power over us today. As I understand the Bible, demons could reside within people during the first century, but it's not clear to me whether that's still the case today.
Regardless, Anderson gives some good practical advice to help you overcome sinful habits. All of that advice boils down to learning and embracing the truth. Whether it's Satan whispering lies into your ears or you lying to yourself, when you recognize those lies, you can (with effort) choose to stop listening to them. When you stop listening to lies and instead listen to truth, your actions will change for the better.

Very good book for people who want to be free from evil thoughts and know who to live with Jesus in a free and biblical way. Very usufel book as it lets you know who really you are in Jesus Christ and you are hollified and justified in Him, you just need to believe in this fact that whatever you are, you are a king and one of the knig's sons. It reveals facts which the enemy alaways to keep them away from our mind that Jesus Christ came for me and every one has a big folder in His mind. I recommend that book for everyone who wants to take very serious decisions in his life as that book taught me that first I should be purified by the Holy Spirit from my sins, then I will be able to take my decisions without any bondage.

I am generally sceptical when I see a book deals with spiritual warfare. So much has been written on the topic that is unbiblical. Anderson's book, however is balanced; it is not a demon under every rock. The intention of the book is not to focus on Satan to satisfy occultic curiousity. Rather it is a practical way of opening your eyes to the causes and cures of real problems you face in your daily life. Your position and identity in Christ is crucial to your success, rather than some ritual or formula. Excellent!

This is one of the most practical and real book I have ever read. The examples he quoted are real as I have experienced some personally - which is why I know he did not cooked up the stories.
His guide and suggestions are practical and workable which I have used and seen it changed my life - my entire outlook of life.
As a 10-year Christian, I used to think this is not needed. But after reading a few pages, I realised I have learnt so much more from him that I start to pay attention to him whenever he writes a book now.

It is so important the we really do know who we are and what God has promised for us. If you struggle in your christian walk or in excepting that God has set you free this is a very good book.
Before I read this, I was a christian who went from crisis to crisis. Then a friend lent me a copy of this book. Since then I have broken the bondages which kept me opressed, "renewed my mind" as Paul encourages us to do. I have bought a number of copies of his books and given them to friends whowere also struggling. There has been a truely amazing difference in my life and those I know who have "studied it". I am now living a christian life rather than going through the motions and just hanging on.
I read some of the other reviews: there are those that have been changed because of it and I rejoice with those people; Some dis-believe because they they don't believe in God or have an unbiblical view of God and/or themselves, I pray for them that they will know, personally, the joy in having a personal relationship with their creator; As always, you will get the "religious person" crying Heresy. I have two reponses for those people: For those that genuinely fear that there is heresy, did you prayerfully read and examine yourself? Your emotive reaction could be your resistance to the truth. Let the Holy Spirit guide you into all truth.
For those wolves in sheep clothing come to spread untruth I say to you get behind me Satan.
If you have excepted Jesus as your saviour - God has set you free, it is now your responsibility to renew your mind so that you can live as God has called you to live.

I am the Queen of negative self-talk. I have multiple college degrees, but I'm always calling myself "stupid" and other names.
I'm my own worst critic. It becomes quite defeating and it feels miserable! I am in the middle of this study and I'm using every chapter to learn and soak up more and more. I'm "capturing every thought in obedience to God." Fantastic filler for the head!

The edition which was sent to me is much earlier than the others is the study group. The chapters and pages do not match up, so it is a problem to keep pace with the group. The book itself (more so the later edition) is awesome in teaching you how to break bondages.

This book is a MUST read. I'm 30 years old, and I have been broken from Satan's chains from reading this book. I noticed ways he was putting holds in my life and I feel grateful to have read this. Anyone who wants to know the truth (of course bible is the best resource) read this book. :)

I appreciate the author[s professional examples and direct ties to scripture. Solid. Helps individuals who are pursuing greater knowledge of Christ to link their biblical understanding to application for the ultimate purpose: Freedom in Christ, on this earth. I believe as individuals apply biblical knowledge they will make a great and positive impact on this earth in this time.

I am using this book with a small group of older people. The book is near perfect for them. It is written in a very understandable fashon. The Bible references are a huge plus and I feel they make the people feel very hopeful that they will be able to turn their attitudes around.

This book has changed my life forever! When you learn of satan's tricks and schemes, you can't fall for them anymore. I wasted 10 years of my life because of his lies, and the freedom I live in now is priceless. This will be the best money you will ever spend on a book, hands down. When I was shopping at the book store, I was in the photography section, and somehow this book literally fell into my hands. It was definitely Divine intervention!

Concisely: do not be too hard on yourself if you cannot keep the worship section on the Steps to Freedom

Explanation:
One of the parts of the Steps to Freedom is on worshipping God. I recall Neil advises that God should be the number one object of our attention and affection and nothing should replace him on that number one spot including your spouse, hobbies, work, etc.

I tried to live that way making God the number one object in my life and I was simply faking myself out. In reality I forced myself to spend time with God in prayer and abstained from things I wanted to do like enjoy myself through entertainment.

So call me a bad Christian, but I am not truly like Asaph who desires nothing but God on earth (73:25) on a daily basis.

Anyways I think Neil is well intentioned and ideally every Christian would love God so much that He truly is the number one object of our affection. However I know for me personally it is not true. My advice to others who cannot achieve the standard of making God number one is to extend grace to yourself and be a bit gentle on yourself.

An incredibly powerful tool! Here's an instrument God will use powerfully. With convincing ease, Neil Anderson presents the biblical basis for winning over Satan and finding freedom in Christ. Both the life-changing message and Neil's personal compassion grip the heart. Now anyone can access the Steps to Freedom in Christ with the best-selling author himself leading the way. Five stars!

Read the Holy Bible for yourself. That will truly bless you.

I have not finished reading any of these books so i can't vouch for the content thereof.

But I can tell you that if you want a shortcut, read the gospel of John continually and repeatedly(for new believers or anyone new to reading the Holy Bible - King James Version). Setup time daily to meditate on God's words. Read it slowly. Take it verse by verse and pray to God to give you understanding instead of looking at self help books.

Then read Psalms (offers praise to God and also has protection prayers) and Proverbs (for guidance and wisdom).

Read Genesis to see how Satan first deceived Eve in the Garden of Eden by introducing doubt into her mind.

Don't suffer unnecessarily by reading man's words. They are easier to understand. However, no man is righteous, no not one. Not even your pastor or elder or deacon can be trusted all the time. Their words and guidance can lead you to unnecessary suffering.

Read the Holy Bible - King James version at [...]for the inspired word of God and repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. God is offering you a free gift of eternal life. You don't have to sin to earn it.

ASIN:0736918140 The Bondage Breaker®: Overcoming *Negative Thoughts *Irrational Feelings *Habitual Sins]]

The Bondage Breaker by Neil Anderson is an excellent book on how to overcome habitual sins. He sees problems as caused by demonic powers which can be difficult for some people. He has seven steps of repentence to get freedom. I found it very helpful, but some people may have difficulty with his emphasis on evil spirits. I would recommend this book if you are struggling with habitual sins especially.

I heartily recommend Dr. Neil's book to new and old christian believers. For the new christian because it immediatedly exposes Satan's workings. And, for the veteran christian who's never quite been freed of a certain stronghold. The Bondage Breaker helped free me of Satan's lies and it has equipped me to help others. Dr. Anderson enlightened me to see we need to come against Satan and his workers with truth, the Word of God. Plus, healthy doses of scripture is used throughout the whole book. A very scripturally based book.

This book opens the reader's eyes to the very important (and all-too-often ignored) subject of the possibilities of demonic activity in our daily lives. When discussing the spiritual world, people tend to focus on the positive half: on God and Jesus and such. This book does a marvelous job of addressing the negative side of the spirit world without making it a fearful thing. Power and freedom and strength in Christ is stressed over and over, and it's AWESOME!!!

I recommended strongly for new believers. This is a good book to lay a solid foundation with. It is a great tool in getting new believers 'minds renewed'. They have to start thinking different and get free from the strongholds in their minds before they can start to grow. This is a good crawl, walk, run foundation to start with.

Overall, this book was a good read and I found much of the information to be valuable. However, my number one complaint is the fact that several times in his book he called other Christian faiths "demonic." I was actually quite surprised by this. In this world full of temptation, all Christian faiths should be banding together to fight the adversary, not bashing each other's beliefs. Since when is that the mark of a Christian, to make disparaging remarks about other Christians. Those comments made me realize that Neil T. Anderson is not the Christian he claims to be and I lost much respect for him after reading this. This was sad for me because I agree with many of the concepts in this book.

.................... I find it disturbing that Neil claims tohave been bitten by a demon! Saved Christians cannot be attacked by satan! Neil aim's this work at people who have mental problems, recovering alcoholics and anyone else who have trouble accepting Christ's grace. I am one of those who when a new Christian and a recovering alcoholic, had trouble believing that God would have anything to do with me. The steps to freedom led to bondage. Please seek out more experienced people than me to get a work of warning from. .....................

For any of you "good Baptist girls" that were not taught about the Power of the Holy Spirit, you MUST read this book. Every word is backed up with Scripture references, so you can test it for yourself.

For anyone suffering, and those that don't even know they are suffering, ALL will benefit from reading, The Bondage Breaker. Get ready to FIGHT!

i HAVE READ ALMOST ALL ANDERSONS BOOKS, THE FIRST BEFORE THIS IS VICTORY OVER THE DARKNESS. THAT BOOK CHANGED MY THINKING ON EVERYTHING FROM MY SELF WORTH, WHO i AM IN CHRIST, HOW VALUABLE I AM IN CHRIST, TO WHY I AM AFRAID TO BE BOLD FOR GOD. THIS BOOK THE BONDAGE BREAKER GETS DOWN TO THE REASONS HOLDING YOU BACK, THE LIES YOU HAVE ACCEPTED ABOUT YOURSELF, CLARIFIES HOW STRONG YOU REALLY ARE IN CHRIST AND GETS YOU GOING ONTO LIVING A FRUIT FILLED LIFE IN CHRIST. IT GETS "THE MONKEY OFF YOUR BACK, FOREVER" A MUST READ FOR EVERY CHRISTIAN.

Dr. Anderson presents a less than compelling argument that much mental illness and psychological burdens is demonic in nature. This is not to suggest that it can NEVER be a spiritual problem, but rather that it is not the problem as frequently as he suggests. He gives anecdotal evidence based upon his counseling sessions which appears to be more hypnotic suggestion than examples of spiritual warfare.

The two killers for me with this book were the Scripture wrested from its original context, and the chapter-by-chapter advertisements for his other books to those readers who wanted to go deeper.

It is also perhaps very telling that no one who is anyone endorsed this book or offered to write the preface for him.

This book is deceiving. It makes you think that demons are everywhere and they are always coming after you. It is part of the reason why I left christianity behind 9 years ago.

It has taken years and years of good secular therapy to get this garbage that Neil T. Anderson teaches cleared out of my head. Stay away from his teachings at all costs! If you have a copy of the Bondage Breaker or Victory Over the Darkness burn it! I would advise anyone to also stay away from churches that endorse his teachings. This guy is a shyster and a nutjob!

Quote of another reviewer from 10 years ago:

This book puts its readers at grave risk -- especially new Christians. First of all, it exposes Christians who are already deeply embattled to some very outrageous and horrible situations. Second, he diminishes the meaning of the "helmet of salvation" and the "sword of the Spirit" to some opinionated heresies. And third, he seems to focus on demonic activity a lot more than he should.
C.S.Lewis wrote in The Screwtape Letters, "There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. They themselves are equally pleased by both errors, and hail a materialist or magician with the same delight."

If I hadn't been so impressed with the high rating of this book, I would have noticed the heresy in the title itself. Satan's bonds are already broken. Christ did that for us at the cross. The strongholds are simply an illusion that we need to recognize. Neil isn't breaking any bonds for us. But I think we should all keep him in prayer.

Books like this are laughable among serious biblical scholars. "Demons" are no more credible than "gremlins" as an explanation for things that go wrong. No invisible powers are manipulating you for good or for evil (though some of your pastors and fellow churchfolk might well be); your life is what you, and your fellow humans, choose to make of it. Stop blaming your problems on imaginary beings and start living in the real world of cause-and-effect.
