What I love about this simple, yet powerful book is that it shows the reader that WE have the power to stop bullying. We don't have to be victims. I also love that the bully is eventually accepted and learns to "count" too. What a wonderfully told story that all ages can relate to. Highly recommended.

This is a great book for any child - start reading to them at toddler and take them through elementary school. Its very cleaver way to address the "bullying" mentality to a child who may not really understand

I could absolutely go on and on forever about this magnificent little book. With simple yet beautiful illustrations, and story line so thoughtful yet not overpowering the universal message that 1 person can make a difference is loud and clear. It's brilliance is found in its simplicity. And yet the simplicity of blue's dilemma is infinitely universal. A must read book for all. All ages. All religions. All races.

A beautiful story about how one individual can make a difference. Excellent for teaching children to be "upstanders" and not just bystanders when they see bullying. Also great for teaching inclusion. I really love using this book in my classroom guidance lessons.

Every few months, my son gains a new understanding and appreciation of this book. When he was 2, he loved the colors and numbers. Now that we are almost 4, there is emotional meaning. And herein lies the beauty of this story. I cannot wait for the day when he completely understands this book. This book is an absolute pleasure to read, time after time.

This book was read by Soroptimist volunteers to K-6 grade individual classes in a rural school, and the kids and teachers loved it. It created great discussions at every grade level. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to address bullying.

Kathyrn Otoshi is a very accomplished writer of simple stories. Simple enough for a 2 year old to enjoy and simple enough for a parent to read and re-read every night and not be nauseated.
The illustrations are so simple and so real. you can actually see the blobs of paint animated and doing "human" quality things. I will leave it at that so as to not expose the entire story. We've got a serious bunch of laughs out of this one, and lessons on compassion and love on several nights. I also noticed that it makes little kids think about what they do (actions) and how they do it, and believe it when I say that this book has resulted in some humane qualities coming out strongly in our son.

I also reviewed "Zero" her other book that came after "One", here: http://www.the store.com/review/R2231631XURCBL
and all I can say is that she has done justice to her prior art.

This book comes with a dust jacket that is very delicate and prone to scratches. Since a 2 year old doesn't care for the details there, I strongly recommend parents take off the dust jacket as soon as the box arrives and store in away neatly. That way the book will continue to look good for a long time.

Simple picture book with a great message for children about not allowing others to make one feel inferior. Also, shares the idea of how there is power in numbers. Basic concepts of colors and numbers are a plus for preschoolers, but this easy to read book's message will resound with elementary students of all ages.

So effective in describing bullying and can be used with a variety of ages of students from elementary school through high school. The wording and imagery seems simple but speaks volumes. Would highly recommend this book to any educator!

This is a fantastic book for any age -- I recently read it to a 4th grade class. The book provided a context from which we could launch a fabulous discussion about getting along (and bullying!). After reading and discussing, the students all appreciated one another much more -- and those who were acting red chose to count instead! Those who were "blue" counted too! And the oranges and greens -- they saw that what they did (or didn't do) mattered too! This book is a keeper! Strongly recommended for students of all ages. Every teacher should have this book within arms reach!

Well written in a rhyming style with nice illustrations. The anti-bullying sentiment is targeted to smaller kids and is handled well. We read this to my daughter before starting kindergarten and still pull it out from time to time.

Our grandson opened this gift last night. We all read it together; great message of standing up for oneself related in a kind and gentle way. The author magnificently uses color and numbers, which appealed to our 2 1/2 year old grandson, to talk about and share a message of inclusion for all.

One is a clever and meaningful story about self esteem and friendship. Incorporating colors and numbers, it constantly reinforces primary learning while taking the heart on a journey. Children and adults of all ages will appreciate the message and how the story is told.
