Since the Bane Chronicles are fairly short, it didn't have the thrill of an actual story. But it opened up the scene to Magnus and Ragnor who have a hilarious relationship. I've been assured by my friend who has read the book, that they get much much better. So I'm holding out for the second book. But it's still important to read this first one, because despite it being a bit dull, it's like the beginning of a book (dull and confusing) but it always gets a lot better.

I just finished "What happened in Peru" and enjoyed the 30 minutes it took me to get through. Magnus is himself, Ragnor and Catrina are interesting. There were tidbits of Magnus' past which were tantalizingly understated. Really a whole book could have been written for this story and it would have been fun but, these are a few funny and sometimes poignant vignettes out of Magnus' history :)

I would not read this if you aren't a Cassandra Clare fan. But, I have found that her writing gets better and better. :)

The concept plot is good, the descriptions are good, the character development is okay. I kept looking for funny things which people assured me were in the book - I never found them. Differences in humor.

Cassandra Clare should stick to writing her novels by herself. This is so poorly done and so very disappointing. Not t mention the fact that the font keeps changing from page to page, and that is very distracting. I haven't finished it yet, and I'm not sure that I will.

I've read the Mortal Instruments books and fell in love with Magnus. I was really interested in reading his chronicles but i was expecting more. I like that the story was short but i felt a little cheated. I was expecting the story of why he was banned from Peru but didn't get the answer i was looking for, exactly.
He is still interesting and i probably will read the next one but it'll be only because i love the character and my expectations will be lower.

I love this character in The Mortal Instrument series. But this was not good writing. Took me 2 days to read 50 pages & I had to force myself to keep at it. Then it doesn't if answer the question. Hope the series gets better I read the next one in the series but unless it gets better I will be stopping there :/

It is not with some difficulty that Cassandra Clare has given us further insight into the world of Magnus and those he's surrounded by. Perhaps even better than the effort was the result....I loved it. She briefly teases us with hints at a greater past and darker secrets while firmly keeping the mood light and oh so Magnus. Looking forward to future installments of the Bane Chronicles.

I love this story. It gives fans of Cassandra Clare novels the chance to have a little more insight into one of my favorite characters. I really wanted to know why Magnus was banned from Peru. I do have to say the ending was absolutely perfect, if not conclusive. I suppose we may never really know, but then again, Magnus wasn't entirely sure either. I can't wait for the next story to come out. Also impatiently waiting for City Of Heavenly Fire.

For a book that was meant to explain how Magnus' exploits got him banned from Peru, this ending was a massive failure. I enjoyed the doses of exposure to his personality. That much was great, as usual. Perhaps CC should have thought of an ending before publishing this.

What Really Happened in Peru

No Magic is what happened in Peru, that's for sure. The book, while very short, failed to give readers a conclusive ending. BIG let down, no reason given for the banning. Very Disappointing Read. I would not recommend spending any more money on the Bane Chronicles if there is no more "Magic" in the rest of the series than there was in What Really Happened in Peru.

The only reason why I put two stars was
1) because who doesn't love Magnus Bane? And
2) love Cassandra Clare stuff...

The writing was not like the mortal instruments, but the stories were good. I did not like the ending, at all...

Really short, finished the book in a matter of about in hour...!

Had high expectations, was let down...

The plot and characters were underdeveloped and read more like a 4th grade reader than a tween. Had high hopes and tried to like the character or care about his "exploits". Left me lacking and not interested in reading anything more in this series.

This short story must have been inspired by the "actor" who portrays Magnus Bane in the movie. Bland, senseless, ridiculous. If this is the material we will get for our money when Cassandra Clare collaborates with others, then I hope she will work alone from now on. I purchased this story for $.99 and I feel cheated. Yes, it was that bad.

I had hoped this book would present the Magnus Bane we came to know & love in the Mortal Instruments series, but it was more a shallow shadow of him. There were a few entertaining moments but overall disappointing.

What Really Happened in Peru was a disappointment, sharing only the character names with the Mortal Instruments and the Infernal Devices series. The story line had no imagination or progression, and the prose was dull. In the future, I'll check the by-line more carefully to make sure I don't waste time or money on poorly ghost-written missives.

I love the Mortal Intruments and the Infernal Devices. This story made me laugh and laugh and laugh. It was about my favorite character in both series: Magnus Bane. I loved it and I can't wait for the next book.
