I truly enjoyed all the Magnus Bane tales and was looking forward to the shadowhunter series. After reading the first story I'm done. Way too short, poor quality of writing and plot. I won't be ordering any more of the series after the first three I already prepaid for. Bummer.

I'm just an avid reader of anything that Cassandra Clare writes. The story just continues to evolve. Just when you think it can't get more interest than vampires and shadow hunters she pulls something so wow and exciting out

In this story I enjoyed getting to know more about the insecurities that Simon deals with in small moments trying to fit in with the kids in the academy while also learning who he is, as a person without remembering his past.

Hoping the next tales are a bit juicier, though I did enjoy Simon' introduction to the academy. It's nice to know that even though he is a different version of himself, he still is all Simon. Loved meeting George Lovelace too. :)

I usually don't write reviews, and I understand that this is only the first of many in this series, however I was slightly disappointed. Simon was not my favourite character in The Mortal Instruments series, though he did offer comic relief throughout the pages; as such, I expected the same in this short story.

The synopsis of the series is a great concept, and not just as a whole but individually as well. But the writing, man the writing... it was not up to par with Cassandra's other great works. It's difficult to fully enjoy a story when the reader is forced to re-read a sentence because the structure of it doesn't flow cohesively. The story wasn't bad, but the writing definitely could have been better; but is that the price to pay for having co-authors?
