I started reading this series after picking it up in my library. I thought it sounded cool, and being an adult, I thought it sounded fun. Well, I started reading, and was surprised to find this was a teen-aged series. At first, when I discovered the lead character was a teenager, I scoffed, but then I started reading, and this series is quite original, fun and interesting, even for an adult.

I started reading Shadowland, and I truly enjoyed it. Having read the last book, first, I found a few discrepancies, but not so many that it ruined the story. Don't mind the fact that it's about a High School girl, it's very good, although due to language, it probably best suited for someone over age 13. I found it a quick read (I could finish it within a day), and I want to read all the books, now.

I read the Princess Diaries book 1 a few years ago and liked it alot. I hadn't read any of Cabot's books for a while until I found the Mediator series. I'm surprised as the range of Cabot's writing, so far. She's got a great style and it's fun. I'd highly recommend this to teenaged girls all over the country.

Susannah Simon has had some odd experiences in her life but this one tops them all. Her mom remarries and they move to California. Normal so far. Until she gets to her room and there is a ghost in there. Not just any ghost but a "hot" dead "cowboy" with a six pack. Don't ask how she knows. Well anyways, he won't leave so they hav to aheeeem "live together." But she isn't normal. She is a mediator which means she can talk to, hear and touch ghosts. Don't take that the wrong way. She doesn't TOUCH them, she can hit them and beat them down and stuff. Well there is also a pyscho ghost at her school who KILLED herself! (What a freaking loser!) So here she is and the guy ghost who's name is Jesse, is super protective and obviously likes her. And that's her life. A ghost has a crush on her, her brothers are odd, her mom thinks she isn't popular enough and a ghost is trying to kill her. Don't get me wrong though, this book was truly one of the best I have ever read. It was original, fun to read, suspensful and not ditzy. Shadowlands was an amazing book that I think alot of people would enjoy. However, I think that this was a girl's book. Boy's really don't want to read about how hot Bryce Martinson and Jesse (who is like 150 yrs. old,) are. Anyways this book was fun and if you liked Philip Pullman books then you will LOVE this.

I cannot believe how amazing this series is. I was not let down at all, this series is everything i hoped for and more. I cannot wait to read more not just in this series, but just by Meg Cabot in general. Her writing style is amazing and completely draws you in. I finished Shadowland in one sitting, i just couldn't put it down. The story is amazing, the characters are so well thought through and you can't put it down if you wanted to. I highly recommend this series to any Meg Cabot lovers, any ghost or paranormal lovers, and especially those who love the show The Ghost Whisperer

A great start to an even better series. This book really opened the door up on this series to me. I'm only working on the third book but I know the rest of the books in the Mediator series are going to be just as great.

Suze has to move with her mom to LA with her moms new husband and 3 boys. Her dad died when she was younger and he still hasn't moved on. she meets that best looking ghost shes ever seen. And even if she won't admit it, shes totally in love with him. And he even saves her life when the ghost heather goes crazy because shes mad she killed herself and now shes taking revenge on the reason she killed herself in the first place.
I highly recommend!

Susannah Simon has traveled who knows how many miles from New York to California just to live with her mom's new husband and his 3 dumb sons. As if things couldnt get worse, there is a ghost living in her room. Sure, Jesse's got the look that would have gotten him elected prom king in no tome flat. (you know, if he were still he alive) But cute isnt exactly the word for how Suze thinks Jesse looks, more like....

Dangerous

But it doesnt end there. Her new principal, Father Dominic, has the same "gift" as her, there is an angry girl ghost haunting her locker, AND trying to kill the guy who asked Suze out.

Suze tries to talk to Heather, but she almost gets killed. (If Jesse hadn't came to the rescue)

Now angry, Heather puts Father Dom in the hospital. This pushes Suze over the edge, now she wants to do something so extreme, that even Jesse can't help her if things take a turn for the worst.

Be sure to read this book, and see if Suze can stop Heather before it's too late....

Shadowland by Mag Cabot is one of the best adventure books I have read in a long time. Suze Simon can see and talk to the dead, but only long enough to help resolve their unfinished business. Her mother has just remarried and has forced Suze to move from New York to California. All Suze wants is a chance to start over, away from her freak reputation caused by her ghostly dealings. That is hard to do, however, when she comes across two ghosts within a week; Jesse, the hot, hundred-fifty-year-old haunting her bedroom, and Heather, the teen ghost who is out for revenge, and Suze just happens to be in her way.

Shadowland is a fantastic book full of witty dialogue, action, adventure, suspense, and a hint of romance. The story has enough twists and turns to keep readers guessing until the end. The suspense will keep them reading into the night anticipating what might happen next. Overall, this was a terrific book that will lead readers straight into the second.

Meg Cabot has written some pretty awesome books. Look at 'The Princess Diaries' for instance. But this series has got to be the best series she's ever written. Susannah is one of her best female heroines yet - strong, headstrong, brave - and at the same time a little loony and stupid. I love Jesse. I think we all want an encounter with a ghost like him, no?

Father Dom is just an angel and Susannah's friends and step brothers add to the the humor and mystery that makes this series as great as it is. I'd reccomend the entire series to all Meg Cabot fans. It's awesome.

This series is amazing. I was reluctant to read it due to the appearance. I had always heard don't judge a book by its cover but I never thought that I would. The book seems to be a superficial chick-flickesk novel, but it has wonderful plot twists and compelling characters combined with action, fantasy, and of course, romance. This was the first series I ever reread. I first read it when I was 13 years old. Now, at 20, I still love these books, Cabot's relatable characters, and her funny wit! If you have not read this series yet I recommend you go read one today. You will not be able to put it down.

The first book in the Mediator Series, Shadowland, was great from the start. I mean, the whole plot is good. Even though it may seem kind of like the kid in "Sixth Sense", and that show on CBS with Jennifer Love Hewitt, "Ghost Whisperer", it's completly different. Instead of coming from a child or adult's point of view, it comes from the perspctive of a tough Brooklyn 16 year old, who moves across the country with her remarried mother to Carmel, California. She thinks her's life's gonna be a lot better, a whole new slate, but it just comes up being more complicated than she could've imagined.

Shadowland, first book in the Mediator series, is a young adult supernatural book that takes place in the present day. It is about sixteen-year-old Susannah who happens to be able to see ghosts since she was a little girl. According to her dead father (who she can see) she is, "The contact person for just about anybody who croaks leaving things...well, untidy. Then, if she can clean up the mess." Think that is a fun and easy job? If you said no you are right. These ghosts can be extremely dangerous and also stubborn. That is why Susannah or Suze (nickname for Susannah) wants to have a fresh start, and hopefully get away from all of the annoying ghosts that pop up wherever she goes. She moves from her grandma's New York apartment to beautiful Carmel, California where her mom, stepfather, and three stepbrothers; Sleepy (Jake) the oldest that always looks sleepy, Dopey (Brad) the dumb brother who is the same age as Suze, and Doc (David) the youngest and smartest one that Suze is the closest with. When she arrives to Carmel Suze's fresh start is ruined when Jesse, a handsome ghost, happens to be living in her bedroom. Lucky for her Jesse does not need any help from her, but when she starts school she meets a vengeful ghost named Heather. Heather is a ruthless teenage girl who will stop at nothing till she gets her revenge, but what happens when Suze gets in her way? Will Suze be able to get rid of her or will Heather be the one to get rid of Suze?

Meg Cabot truly did a spectacular job writing this book. The pacing of the book was fast, but she also had a well-developed storyline and characters. She really captured the spirit and emotions of teenagers. One thing I really liked about the way Meg Cabot wrote the book was that she used modern day language and some slang, which made it easier for teenagers to read and relate to. In addition, Meg Cabot added a hint of humor throughout the book with Suze's friend, Adam. Adam had many funny one-liners like, "Father Dom gets a sponge bath, but me, a guy who can actually appreciate that, and what do I get."

Even though Shadowland is a very original story there are also other books that you may like, which contain some similarities with this book. One good book would be Carrie. Carrie is also a story about a teenage girl who has supernatural powers too. Both books have supernatural elements, but Carrie is a lot darker than Shadowland. Shadowland contains a lot more humor and optimism. Another book/series that share some of the same elements, as Shadowland is the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants books. Both books take place in the present day and have young adult themes. Also, I would recommend the rest of the Mediator series and any other books written by Meg Cabot. Her style of writing is impeccable and teenage girls can relate to her characters.

When I first read this book I could not put the book down and did not even notice I was close to the end. Once I finished the book I could not wait to read the next book in the series. I really enjoyed reading this book and fancied the fact that it was not your ordinary teenage story dealing with popularity or love. I would definitely recommend any teenage girl who loved any other books written by Meg Cabot or is just looking for a good book to read then. Trust me, read Shadowland, and I promise you will not be disappointed.

I absolutly love this book. Suze is just great. She's a mediator, in other words she "sees dead people". She moves to California from New York to live with her new step-dad and step-brothers who she calls Dopey, Doc, and Sleepy which is so funny. She's a girl not afraid of kicking a little ghost butt or a little human butt to. My favorite part is when she says to a girl who called another girl a freak: "I wasn't calling you a freak," the girl said, quickly. "I'm aware of that," i said. "That's why I'm only going to break one of your fingers after school, instead of all of them." Read this book. Read it!

Desperate to read a good novel this month? Well, Shadowland by Jenny Carroll(aka Meg Cabot) would be the perfect book to read when book worms or anyone have absolutely noting to do! Bring it to school or to the mall, this book is to be brought along with everywhere!
Shadowland has such a great description that it makes readers feel like they are part of the book. Fighting ghosts, bringing them to the other side is what Susannah Simmon, the main character have to deal with ever since she turned two. Many who had read this book find it so hard to put down and also read the sequels for this novel. The sequels are (in order) Shadowland, Ninth Key, Reunion, Darkest Hour, and Haunted. Hope you would read this novel... it's like...the best(including the other sequels!!!) Have fun reading!

Jenny Carroll (Meg Cabot) is an awesome author. Every book that I have read of hers, I like.
"Shadowland" is about a girl, Susannah, who has this amazing ability. Susannah is a Mediator and can see, hear, and touch ghosts. It is her "job" to help these ghosts to find their way to the other side...whatever that may be. As if having an unwanted job wasn't enough, she is also the "typical" 16 year-old girl. She just moved from NY to CA because her mother married another man. In CA, she hopes her life will be different...and it is. As she says, "it's worse". The ghost of a really cute guy lives in her bedroom, a girl who committed suicide wants revenge on an ex-boyfriend and Suze, and Suze finally meets another Mediator-a Priest.
This story is fast paced, and a fun read. I think all teen girls can relate in some way to Susannah. She is quick-witted, quick-tempered, a bit cocky, and tough (sometimes she resorts to "kicking some ghost butt" to send them on their way to the other side). The story leaves room for more books and the reader wanting more. All in all, a good read. Way to go, Jenny Carroll!

This is absolutely my favorite book. I have never been a big reader, but I picked up this book one day. It usually takes me at least a month to finish a book this long, but I finished The Mediator in two days! I couldn't put it down! Meg Cabot, in my opinion, is one of the best teen writers out there. The reader feels as if they are involved in the story, and as if they know the charachters.I strogly reccoment this book to anyone between the ages of 12-20.

Ever since I read "all-american girl" I loved meg cabot. I read all the princess diary books. I found the mediator and decided to give it a try. It was very good. It's about a girl named Sussanah. Her mom get's re-married and she moves to california. she is a mediator which means that she can talk too and see the dead. A ghost named Jesse is in her room. This is one part I don't like. Before she can even get too know Jesse, she yells at him to get out. Anyways, the first day of school, she sees this ghost who shot herself because her boyfriend broke up with her. Long story short, she has to battle the ghost.

Theres one more thing that I didn't like. She is mean to the dead dad. If your dad was dead, you'd want to talk to him right? Instead she doesn't really like talking to him.

In Australia, the first book in the series of "The mediator" is called Love you to Death, The second, High stakes, The third, Mean spirits, The fourth, Young blood, The fifth, Grave Doubts and The sixth, Heaven Sent. I dont know if there is any difference in the actual stories of those books but I recommend it for every teen! I LOVE IT! so much! Omg, it makes my heart race whenever a guy comes along into it! ESPECIALLY JESSE!!! Omg I picture him in my mind and get so worked up of how hot he really would be in real life. I love every book by Meg cuz she uses a lot of detail and makes the book sooo romantic!!! The Mediator series is sooo cool so far (being up to the fifth book now, Grave doubts) but a little disturbing when I want to hear more about a convo between Jesse and Suze, then Paul and Suze, so If I want to hear more about Jesse and Suze, I flip all the pages to see where the dialogue of Jesse and Suze is, then put my bookmark there and thats how many pages I have to read before I go to sleep that night. Even Im up to page 16 and have to read to page 56!I LOVE the Mediator Series (and am gonna miss it when I finish reading the books) and I hope you do/did too!!!

Written from the perspective of a teenager (and a mouthy one), it's a good book that's not too deep. The exorcism ritual seemed like quite a cop out, like the author didn't know how to describe it instead of Susie not wanting to share.

Shadowland is the first book in the Mediator series by Meg Cabot. Suze (Susannah-as in "Oh Susannah, don't you cry for me") Simon is a mediator who moves to Carmel, California from NY and finds a little surprise in her new room. It was all frilly (she totally hates frilly), and pink with a canopy bed. Oh, and the ghost of a nineteenth-century hottie sitting by her window.

Even though Suze is used to ghosts, her new experiences at Junipero Serra Mission Academy test her to the limits. A girl named Heather has been haunting the Academy and Suze has to take care of her-as in get her to go away. With her new life in Carmel, new friends (the sexy ones and the school ones), and Heather, Suze has a lot to take in.

This is an amazing book that just kept me readng until I was done. Great way to start a series.

This was a great first book in the Mediator series. It kept you enthralled to the very end. The way Meg Cabot devolpes her characters is phanomenom. This was the first Meg Cabot book I read, actually the first real novel i ever read, and I was hooked! I love the mediator series and I think Meg couldn't have written it better.
I believe that even 5 stars are too less for this book. Suze Simons is one of the most inspiring heroins ever and Jesse is sooooo awesome! God, I wish my boyfriend could be like that!:p
Anyway if you are confused about whether or not to buy this book then don't be, buy it, you won't regret it, I swear!

The Mediator series is great for nearly any teenage girl, no matter what age or reading level. The books are below my reading level, but that didn't change the fact that I loved them. For some reason, these books are published under two different authors' names: Meg Cabot and Jenny Carroll.

I am a sixth grade English teacher and I stumbled across Jenny Carroll when I read the Princess Diaries which is also a great book. This series is very different and I highly recommend it. I am not a big believer in ghost stories but this series is very captivating. Suzannah Simon is a terrific role model--strong-willed, bright, down-to-earth, and caring. There is some objectionable language but it serves to make the characters and story more believable. I think it is a great series for young adult girls to read!!!

I really like these books. They are so fun because no one takes anything too seriously in them - like the businesslike way the heroine deals with ghosts and bullies. Suze just goes along, doing her own thing, having fun. Nothing phazes her. And the boys in these books? So hot!

The reason they do not get five stars is that sometimes these books seem a little shallow. They are quite thin, so the author has to cover a lot in not many pages, but i still feel like there is something missing...They are not really the sort of books that get you crying or sitting on the edge of your seat, desperate to know what happens next. But they do make you laugh, so they deserve four stars.

This fast-paced novel doesn't disappoint. It's chocked-full of sarcasm and ghost busting action. The only thing that didn't really set well with me was all the cashmere the characters wore...

Shadowland is a must read. Susannah Simon is the new student in town at a Catholic Private School. She is a strong, determined, young women that doesn't shy away from much, except boys.
Although she is aware of her "gift" she still hasn't used it to her fullest potential.
I can't wait until she spends more time with Jesse.

Well Done Jenny! The best beginning of a wonderful series. The action, the romance! How can we take it all?! Jessi, come here you ...beast! He is an amazing character, bringing the past into the future in an ingenious storyline. Suze is a real person, not as fictitious as the rest of the world, and not as ignorant eather! This book is so a must read!!(Excuse the corny phrase)There is something out there, something that lives amongst us that we are too ignorant to recognise. It's about time we find out who we walk amongst. (",)

If you have a reader that likes these books, try introducing her/him to Lois Duncan or Caroline Cooney.

This is one of the most addicting series out. The series is about a girl, Susanah Simon, who can speak to the dead and tries to help them solve their problems. Yet the book includes witty comments like how the girl cannot get a date, making the book light and fun. If you pick this up, you will not be dissappointed
