Book was a totally different science book Instead of space or aliens., the book goes underground and covers exploration, monsters, murder, and mysticism. Fantastic in the real sense of the word. Buy it. Worth every penny.

As usual, James Rollins wrote a great story with lots of characters and sub plots. I love pseudo-scientific adventure stories. This was an intricate story with lots of twists and turns. I enjoyed reading it.

It is quite apparent that James Rollins is an excellent storyteller. His descriptions are excellent. I read the book in two sittings. My frustration is that the time lapses felt unrealistic. As well, the group of experts would have been carefully researched before such a mission. The real Khalid's family would have surely known something bad had happened--or was this a family coverup? Major faux pas. The Major's brother just happens to be the only survivor of the previous mission-- too convenient. Rollins maneuvered the story a bit too much for me. Still a fun read.

Rollins has a fantastic imagination, and puts it all into works, keeping you reading on and on to find out what is next. Not the usual predictable story. I enjoyed it a lot, and find his writing easy on my mind and eyes. Thanks James.

A great book. could not stop reading it. I wanted to know what was going to happen next. Totally worth the price. It should really be made into a movie. I would definitely go to watch it at the theater.

Creative and unexpected insights into the theory of evolution. Would be a possibility in an isolated environment unsullied by other species. The author is exceptional in creating characters and the plot is thoroughly engaging.

Don't get me wrong, I love James Rollins' books. And this book started out even better than others. However, it got a little bit strange as I got deeper in the book. Oh well, still love the author and can't wait to read the next one!

No space or deep space stuff, but very creative in the use of creatures and setting. Moves along pretty well, easy to follow, written well. I could actually see this happening; it could be a real story, not just a novel.

First couple of chapters started off slow, but introduced you to the characters, and then it gets interesting. The government has a group of scientists travel deep into caverns miles below the surface to the center of the earth. Sounds familiar, well this is where it changes from the classic to something much more thrilling and dangerous. Well worth reading. I will definitely read this author other books

Kept me totally entertained for several days. I love Rollins' unlimited imagination. It's not great literature, it's just an excitiing page turning adventure story, which is exactly what I wanted at the time.

I enjoyed the story and the author kept the action flow going to hold your interest. There were unexpected turns and twists, and you didn't know what would happen next. I am a Fantasy- Sci-Fi fan and this story did not disappoint. I will read more of James Rollins books because I like his writing style and his imagination!

The book was truly fascinating. What a wonderful new world. The characters are just great. The heart and soul of their lives. Great loyalty between the two species of people. I loved the telepathy that Ben had with villagers. Just a great read. Takes you away from
reality for a while.

After reading a sample, I was pleasantly surprised at how interesting this novel appeared to be. Immediately purchasing the full text, I jumped right in and became, without a doubt, hooked into the story. There were some aspects of the plot that may have seemed somewhat predictable. But Rollins' presentation gave these anticipated events their own flavor, and really did not distract much from the great story that was unfolding. This was a great action adventure that I could not help but read in only a few nights.

As breath-takingly suffocating at times and as intriguingly bold as a David Poyer novel. Worthy enough to be a fascinating adventurous separated-by-the-power-of-nature movie.
Meet intelligent monsters and intriguingly balanced little people.

I purchased this book as a loyal Rollins fan, although I had found books outside the Sigma series to be a tad less exiting (e.g., Altar of Eden). This book was a pleasant surprise. The description of a world in crisis from the perspective of a deaf scientist was outstanding. The Russian Admiral's character also had surprising depth. In sum, a page turner that was impossible to put down.

The story was interesting. It's concept was intriguing. However, the story became a bit odd as more of the less logical parts came into play. Having humanoid monotreme, subterranean creatures and vast underground ecological systems got to be a bit far fetched. Great for escapist reading...

This book had everything I love about action/adventure. Great characters, fun monsters and a dark cavern to run around in! Even though it was similar to Jurassic Park, you were constantly surprised by this new and wonderous world under the ice. I couldn't put it down!

I just finished the Kindle version (ILMK!). The book certainly held my attention. The characters were fairly well developed, there was lots of suspense, and the pacing was good. The storyline was interesting, but there were a few technical mistakes and minor plot holes that prevent me from giving it more than 4-stars.
It's a shame the author/editor chose not to correct these minor mistakes for the Kindle version. What's wrong with releasing an edited version?
