If you've been wondering about your purpose or calling in life, get this book! Stephen Cope walks us through the ancient Hindu spiritual text, the Bhagavad Gita, and puts it into easy-to-understand terms. I love that he uses examples of famous people's searches for their own purpose to illustrate each point. These range from Jane Goodall to Robert Frost to Susan B Anthony. It's a terrific summary of a text that's otherwise (for me) hard to read.
The principles that he talks about are all spot on too. This book completely changed the way that I've thought about my purpose in life - and it wouldn't be too far a stretch to say that it's changed my life. I first heard about him during the Hay House World Summit and I'm looking forward to reading more of his work.
Highly, highly recommend.

Stephen Cope does it again with this book. I also enjoyed Yoga and the Quest for the True Self. A really good application of the ideas and concepts in the Bhagavad Gita to real life and how we can reach toward our goals. I really like this book.

This is a brilliant read for anyone who is trying to find piece together various elements of his/her life. I had taken a weekend session by Stephen Cope at Kripalu about the similar topic and this book was a continuation of what I had learnt and much more detailed. The book is a synopsis or a message of Bhagavad Gita. Stephen Cope traverses through the life of some famous and some common people and connects various dots of their life. He eventually makes a point that we are all different but very similar in what we are doing. We all have a purpose and we should believe in our calling and follow our heart by letting go of the outcome. When we find something that we like, we should take the action in doing it, and let go of the results, which is the hardest of all things. Stephen Cope makes the journey of the various characters in the book mine and yours. If you are struggling finding a way or you are not this is a book that you will enjoy. It is a light read.

What a treasure! If you have been struggling and trying to dissect your life's purpose or calling (dharma), this book will shed new light and perspective on your search. I'm so glad I decided to buy this one instead of waiting for it at the library. I will definitely be reading it again. Superb!

This book really spoke to me and inspired me. It was a synchrony for me as I too find myself middle aged in a dark forest. This book holds up a light; find and then fight for your dharma and all will be well.

This book explains the lessons of the Bhagavad Gita in a page-turning way by weaving in short biographies of famous and ordinary people whose lives illustrate the lessons of the Gita. I could not put it down and have bought copies for several friends. It has changed my life for the better.

Great high level over view of the Bagavad Gita and insight into how to seek out and live the gifts you have been given. Very positive and productive. Many lovely examples of people's lives to examine.

Stephen Cope writes in such an accessible way, making the complex understandable and the texts of eastern cultures fathomable to the uninitiated westerner. He brings the ideas home and makes the reader understand the universality of the spiritual quest and at the same time, its immediate relevance.

Beautiful. Inspiring. I read the Bhagavad Gita when I was in college. But now in my 50s, going through a mid-life crisis, this book was wonderful. I'm reading the BG again with new eyes and a new heart.

The author made the Gita come alive and understandable for me in a way I have never experienced before. This book is so unique - I was totally engaged and inspired in my own life, as a result. I am still assimilating all the wisdom the book holds.

This book was just what the doctor ordered. I am retired and 75. I have felt stuck for a while. Reading this book got me unstuck. I came up with five actions I could take that would help me feel more energized and productive. While the Bhagavad Gita serves as the skeleton for the book, don't let that scare you if you are unfamiliar with it. The meat of the book is lives of extraordinary people--most of whom seemed to be single and not have family responsibilities --as well as a few ordinary people like myself. This book helped me name my gifts and then seek ways to share them more fully. In our annual Christmas letter I always site the most important book I've read that year. This is the book for 2014. Thank you Stephen.
